[REQUEST] Is there an app to backup/restore remembered WIFI networks and keys? - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Just posting to see if anyone can help me find an app that will back up and restore my remembered WIFI networks with keys. My job has free WIFI everywhere, but it requires a password that they will only input directly into my phone for me. It is a pain to go have them do that every time I wipe my phone to flash a new ROM. Any help is appreciated.

The google backup does this by default if you select it when you first log into your phone.
I haven't had to enter my wi-fi keys for the last 5 or so wipes.

it does not work for me too, i selected to backup those settings as well and have had to re type the wifi key in after every wipe. i tried sending the key to my gmail account but also can't seem to copy past from the e-mail on the phone,
i paid large for this phone in canada and am a little disappointed that copy paste does not work in a lot of places on the phone.

Backup Settings

So my understanding of the Backup settings is that your settings, like ringtones and applications will be loaded onto googles server so they can be restored if you do a factory reset.
I just flashed the beta 2 Cyanogen ROM but none of my applications are coming back to me. I had the backup selected before, so i dont know if i just need to be patient or what. its been like half an hour, i expected to see at least something by now.
Can anyone give me more information about this feature? I haven't been able to find much.
I just found this from Google

Back up my settings
Check to back up your phone's settings to Google servers, with your Google Account. If you replace your phone, the settings you've backed up are restored onto the new phone the first time you sign in with your Google Account. If you check this option, a wide variety of settings are backed up, including your Wi-Fi passwords, bookmarks, a list of the applications you've installed, the words you've added to the dictionary used by the onscreen keyboard, and most of the settings that you configure with the Settings application. If you uncheck this option, you stop backing up your settings, and any existing backups are deleted from Google servers.
I've had the backup settings checked and it worked perfectly for me. It reinstalled about 30 apps right after signing into google after flashing.
My only problem with it is that after it reinstalls everything I have no access to root. All my apps that require root hang at the SU request page and I never get the buttons to allow access.
Anyone else experience this? I haven't tried it with the new CM rom but it happened with enom's add on.

I think flashing a custom ROM changes the identifier or signature of your phone, so you won't get that backed up information synching back with your phone.

[Q] Lost google account on a rooted factory reset

i rooted my thunderbolt a few days ago and everything was working great. I downloaded titanium backup and while messing around, I somehow deleted the “file”/”app” that controls my phones data. After that, the only way I could get an internet connection was if I had wifi… I also deleted the play.google market app..
on the problem. I did a factory reset and the internet is back up and working. The problem is, I still have no market app and that’s where all my previous apps are stored. i logged on to play.google.com, and when I go to re-install one of my apps, it doesn’t bring my current phone up on the list.. I somehow installed the barcode reader but when I go to read an app code, it takes me to internet and says I don’t have permission… any help would be greatly appreciated.
same prob.. solution would be appreciated

not quite an HTC Butterfly / APN issues

Hello,
First time posting here. Feel free to move this post if it isn't in the correct place. Anyway, I hope you can help me out!
I bought a triple sim android phone in Singapore. It is based on a HTC Butterfly. I only really started using it back in Europe and everything works perfectly, except that I can't get a data connection via the sim card I want to use (Vodafone Netherlands).
While trying to figure out what the problem was, I used another sim card (Hi, also from the Netherlands), and this worked without any problem.
I contacted Vodafone and they told me it could be because Hi doesn't have a set user name and password on their APN settings and Vodafone does, and maybe my phone was struggling with that for some reason. They said I could remove the user name and password from the APN settings and it should be ok.
I first tested this on another phone and it worked, but the problem is that on the phone I bought the APN menu on the settings is blocked. I can't edit, add or reset settings. Nothing happens when I press the options. I have no idea why this is happening.
I went around it by doing the following:
- Rooted the phone using Framaroot-1.6.1.
- Backed up the APN settings using the app "APN Backup and Restore".
- Manually edited the settings for the APN I want to use, removing the username and password.
- Restored the APN settings. For this I had to make "APN Backup and Restore" a system app. I did so using the app "/system/app mover".
At this point the network icon showed a data connection! I thought I had solved it but although there was a connection there was no data transfer at all. I couldn't load websites, google maps, etc.
I tried other apps that should allow editing of APN settings and I might have done some damage, because now not even the Hi sim card data connection is working...
That's about it. I am not an expert on these things, but if anyone has any suggestions and explains what I need to do I will give it a go! Just let me know what other information you need.
Thanks (and sorry for the long post!),
F.

[Q] Cannot turn on automatic Backup from Settings

Hello everyone, I am stock and non-Rooted.
During the initial setup I skipped the backup&restore setup, and now I wanted to let it backup again in case I want to unlock the bootloader or something.
Now if I go to Settings > Backup & reset and tick "Back up my data", the button below "Backup account" is disable and grayed out and says "No account is currently storing backed up data".
There is no way that I can setup the account.
I even read somewhere that I should have restarted the phone, I did and my account appeared automagically... but later the same day or the day after it disappeared again!
I have no clue and it really looks like a bug in the system.
Sorry - I do not know what would cause that option to be grayed out (assuming you have set up a google account, and selected that as the backup account on that screen)
But just so you know, this backup will not backup all your data (or even your app data).
It (currently) backs up a very limited set of data (like WiFi settings/app list from playstore/)
It will not backup your pictures (assuming you don't have auto-backup enabled in dropbox/G+), game progress (for games that do not have google play integration), personal files, SMS, call logs - all of which will get wiped if you unlock bootloader.
You may want to look at helium backup as an option to backup all data. (If you were rooted, titanium backup would be my recommendation)
Thanks for the tip.
In fact, I think I prefer an on-demand solution rather than a background process which uses battery and network.
I installed Helium and activated using the desktop application.
I now only have a couple of doubts...
Where does the backup get stored when I save on local storage? I would of course like to transfer those files over to Dropbox instead of leaving them on the same phone.
Do the local settings, like WIFI passwords and such also get saved? It's not clear from the UI.
Thanks again
Alright... I googled around a bit and found out there's actually no way to save my stored WIFI passwords without ROOT...
This pretty much sucks as that was one of my most wanted...
The only option I have is really the Google-own backup system, so if anyone had an answer on how to make it work (my first post) that would be great.

How exactly does WiFI password backups work?

As of lately, whenever I flash a new ROM or install a new vanilla version of android on my devices, I do the opt in for the google backup hoping that information about my settings (doze, do not disturb, wifi passwords, etc) get backed up so I dont start from scratch everytime.
Despite of this, everytime I set up a new clean install, I find out all my commonly visited places I have to re-enter my wifi password (parents house, frequeted coffee shops, etc). Arent these supposed to be backed up with the google opt-in thingy?
I even do the NFC thing where you touch your device and it passes the info one to another (eg, from my phone to tablet) and nothing.
I also use Titanium Backup but cant seem to find the specific function for this. Do I just overwrite the settings app? Im sort of new to ROMing and stuff and Im afraid it will mess up my devices...
Please help!
