App that adjusts ringer to silent for different callers? - Android Apps and Games

Is there any app that can have the phone ring on silent for some callers, and with volume on for some? For example when I'm sleeping, if my friends call I want it to ring on silent so it won't wake me up (but not block the call, because I still want to see the entry on my missed calls), but if my mom calls I want to hear it ring so I will wake up.

perhaps:
h t t p : / /
ringomo.com/android
.php
customize specific ringtones for every contact
otherwise create a "blank" mp3 you use for some contacts

Nice idea with the blank mp3

That would be a lot of work to set up every night, lol. I want something quick and easy that you can switch on and off.

I realize this is an older request, but we just released a new application, CritiCall which does exactly this. It allows you to turn the volume off at night and still receive calls from specific people. Just set them as "critical" contacts and the app will override the volume settings and let the phone ring for those contacts only. It will remain on silent for everyone else.
You can even set up groups so you could have your family set as a group that will ring your phone 24 hours a day Then you could have another group for friends or co-workers which limits the times it overrides the volume to between 8AM to 10 PM or whatever times you want. You can customize the times for each individual or for each entire group.

There are also features to let you adjust the volume that it rings as well as an automatic resume feature. Obviously there are times you can't have the phone ring, but you can turn CritiCall off and set the time for it to turn back on automatically. This works great in case you turn the volume down for some reason and you forget to turn the volume back up - you don't miss important phone calls.
If you have any issues or comments/suggestions, let us know at [email protected]. We want to know what features to add - we're already working on an on/off widget and also having CritiCall work for text messages too.

AutoRing - review here.
Uses a white list approach.

I was looking for the same thing coming from a BlackBerry and I found Bedside:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/bedside-(night-clock)/net.geekherd.bedsidepro2
I love it. It uses a whitelist so you just set up who you want calling/texting (which are seperate) and only those will ring through. It has a widget you tap to activate/deactivate so it is pretty simple too.

I use Toggle Settings pro, and it works well for this sort of thing!

in PhoneAlarm you can specify some custom vibration patterns for all alarms, calls, email, sms, etc.
Is that really true? I did a testdrive with phoneAlarm (which kindly ****ed up all my alarm and ringtone settings) but could not find anything that let me edit any vibration patterns. Did I end up in stupidity?
Are there any ways to edit SMS pattern by now? Thanks for answering in advance?

I tried phone alarm n it drained my battery much quicker than is spose to. idk maybe i did something wrong.
But, were you able to change the SMS vibration to a custom pattern? I haven't found such an option in the program I fear...
that is so true, i downloaded it yesterday n it didn't change the vibrating pattern. however, did u use the pro or lite version?
I tried the pro version. Trial version of pro. The changelog says that it is capable of changing vibration patterns for each alarm, but there was no such option anywhere. I looked through it twice at least. Strange then. Is there no other way for changing the vibration for SMS and e-mail?

+1 Xperia has such a sucky vibration pattern (haha, I just called it pattern!), it just vibrates forcefully one time so hard that the device hums very loudly. I'd like to have the normal three short vibrations.
The same with the Touch Pro. People keep asking me why I have my razor with me. Three short vibrations would be a dream of a vibration!
Bump.
I assume no solutions yet. I have been scouring the interwebs. I have found some registry edits that can do it, but appearntly if you change profiles it goes away.

Thanks for all of you!!
Sounds like a great app. Will try it out
Feature Suggestion
Wow, I think this app will turn out to be incredibly useful for me.
Just a quick feature suggestion:
Add an option that will only let the callers on the whitelist through if they call twice within a certain amount of time.
Here is an example of how that would be useful to me:
Without the requested feature: My father works early in the morning, he calls me around 5am to see if my wife and I can do dinner on Friday night. Because my father is on my whitelist, his call will get right through and wake me up, despite it not being an emergency.
With the requested feature: My father works early in the morning, he calls me around 5am to see if my wife and I can do dinner on Friday night. Because my father is on my whitelist AND I have enabled the 2 call option, his call simply goes to voicemail like normal.
If it's an emergency, my father will know to call twice within 10minutes (or whatever interval I select), at which point, I will be awakened by his second call.
This would be priceless for me (and many others I think). I've been really hoping someone could make an app like this. Oh and I'd be happy to beta test if you need a tester.
hahaha i want to say thank you for the app even i havent tried it yet
its just that i read this thread in the morning and it made my day
very humorous way to introduce an app
haha thanks, might try it later

[APP] [2.1+] SMS Sounds - Lightweight Add-on to Stock Messaging App - Set text tones!

This app is in its early stages as is the developer! Please let me know if you encounter any issues.
SMS Sounds
Set custom ringtones for each of your contacts when you receive SMS text messages! This app will not bloat your phone as it should be used in addition to the default messaging software on your phone.
You can setup every contact with their own ring so you know when to leave the phone on the couch and not reply to them for an hour. Or, you will know when to look at your phone immediately as your curiosity gets aroused as you’ve been waiting for their text.
There are three selections in SMS Sounds. First, you’ll have to add a ringtone to each of your contacts. Next, you can edit them at any time (be sure to click save before exiting the screen). And third, view them all in one complete list.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any bugs or issues that will be fixed as though we are getting paid by the hour. Or send us feature requests that may never be added.
FAQ’s:
Q: Why does the ringtone keep playing until I answer it?
A: Some ringtone files are set to loop endlessly. You can check this when you are in the ringtone picker. Select a tone and if it continues to ring over and over, it will also loop when you receive an SMS. The best thing for you to do is create or pirate your own .wav or .mp3 files that do not loop and set them as the tones.
Q: Why do I get two notifications for every SMS text I receive?
A: This common problem occurs when you either have a default notification still set or you are using another messaging application that has its own notification tone. To remove the default notification, go to Settings > Sound > Notification ringtone > Silent. Don’t ask me how to shut them off for other custom applications, I didn’t develop them and I certainly don’t recommend them!
Q: Why am I not able to see all my ringtones (internal or external)?
A: SMS messages are handled via notifications. Your sound files (ex: .ogg, .wav, .mp3, etc) have to be within a folder labeled “notifications” to be recognized by the application. Move or copy your ringtones into the “notifications” folder. This isn’t my rule; I have to live by it just like you. TIP: Notifications should not be an entire song unless you want to hear the whole song each time someone sends a message. We suggest you create a shorter file of approximately 2 to 5 seconds for notifications. For example, don’t setup Freebird as a tone.
Q: Why do the notifications quit working?
A: If you use applications that require high resources/memory, the operating system can shut down the application causing it to stop working. Re-open the application and toggle the “Tones Enabled?” checkbox to off and then back to on to continue hearing the wonderful sounds of your incoming messages.
Q: I setup a contact but the phone doesn’t ring when they send me a text.
A: That isn’t a question. We’d start by checking the list of contacts in the view screen to make sure the phone number matches the number received by your messaging application. If they do not match exactly, the phone will not sound off. You’ll need to edit the contact information in the phone’s address book. Then go back into the ringtone setup in SMS Sounds and select a tone for the new entry.

Made some design changes to make it easier to setup for contacts.
Looking for comments from anyone who has downloaded the app.
I've updated this to work with ICS. Not sure anyone on ICS right now uses the stock messaging app though.

[Scholarship] I wish there was an app that...

It would be magnificent if there was an app that could answer your phone calls. Let me explain by giving you a short example. Would it not be something if you could record a brief message before you head into your shower knowing your friend, mom, dad, whoever it might be, is going to call you? Then your phone would automatically answer your call and play the message for them. It would be very useful if you just needed to tell them something that would take a minute, but they were busy at the moment and it was too complicated to send it through text/email. Let us say that you are driving and somebody calls you. What then? If you answer you run the risk of an accident, but if you had the app, then you could put it in driving mode before you start driving. When this option is implemented, the previously recorded message for driving mode would play and repeat it to anyone driving. This amazing app that would keep us safe and be very useful at times would be called, Ansmart!

There is a picture on the link that explains my reaction.
To be more helpful, did you know you can also just ignore the phone call while driving or taking a shower?
Did you know you can also turn the volume off when you don't want to be disturbed?
In all seriousness, you can set up voice mail or a Google voice number, and then set your phone to forward call to that number with and automated response that you are busy.
You can also go under settings. Call settings.all calls. Reject call with message or auto forwarding.
No app needed....neat huh?
I use Google Voice for most of this functionality. You can set up custom messages pretty easily for certain people, groups, etc. And as qkster said, just don't answer the phone while you're driving, taking a shower, on the throne, etc.. People will understand, and most likely appreciate it.
In addition to being able to set up custom messages for groups, etc. on GV, there are other benefits. Free SMS is one that I use quite a bit. Also, one Google Voice number can be set to ring multiple phones. This is handy for me, since I have a very weak cell signal at home. Since my Google Voice number is set to ring both my home phone and my cell, I have a Tasker profile set to turn my cell antenna off and WiFi on when my home WiFi network is near. Since GV rings my home phone, I don't miss any calls. GrooveIP is also a good program to use with Google Voice, as it lets you make calls over WiFi using your Google Voice number.
EDIT: By the way, the OP looks a lot like

Bought the app. Very nice. Any chance that you can implement an activation trigger by date/time?

Great app!

Also simple and stylish design!
nice app.
Good app, bought it.
Probably the most useful app I've found on this site! I work constantly and have my phone on silent and I always miss calls and later have to deal with the whole "why didn't you answer" crap but now I can at least know instantly when I miss a call and notify the contact asap instead of hours later. Very helpful app will be purchasing soon.
Perfect app! Thaks, developers!=)
Nice, simple and useful. Thumbs up!
Agree with others. So usefull and so simple! Gratz to you
