Feature Suggestion
Wow, I think this app will turn out to be incredibly useful for me.
Just a quick feature suggestion:
Add an option that will only let the callers on the whitelist through if they call twice within a certain amount of time.
Here is an example of how that would be useful to me:
Without the requested feature: My father works early in the morning, he calls me around 5am to see if my wife and I can do dinner on Friday night. Because my father is on my whitelist, his call will get right through and wake me up, despite it not being an emergency.
With the requested feature: My father works early in the morning, he calls me around 5am to see if my wife and I can do dinner on Friday night. Because my father is on my whitelist AND I have enabled the 2 call option, his call simply goes to voicemail like normal.
If it's an emergency, my father will know to call twice within 10minutes (or whatever interval I select), at which point, I will be awakened by his second call.
This would be priceless for me (and many others I think). I've been really hoping someone could make an app like this. Oh and I'd be happy to beta test if you need a tester.

hahaha i want to say thank you for the app even i havent tried it yet
its just that i read this thread in the morning and it made my day
very humorous way to introduce an app
haha thanks, might try it later

App that adjusts ringer to silent for different callers?

Is there any app that can have the phone ring on silent for some callers, and with volume on for some? For example when I'm sleeping, if my friends call I want it to ring on silent so it won't wake me up (but not block the call, because I still want to see the entry on my missed calls), but if my mom calls I want to hear it ring so I will wake up.
perhaps:
h t t p : / /
ringomo.com/android
.php
customize specific ringtones for every contact
otherwise create a "blank" mp3 you use for some contacts
Nice idea with the blank mp3

That would be a lot of work to set up every night, lol. I want something quick and easy that you can switch on and off.

I realize this is an older request, but we just released a new application, CritiCall which does exactly this. It allows you to turn the volume off at night and still receive calls from specific people. Just set them as "critical" contacts and the app will override the volume settings and let the phone ring for those contacts only. It will remain on silent for everyone else.
You can even set up groups so you could have your family set as a group that will ring your phone 24 hours a day Then you could have another group for friends or co-workers which limits the times it overrides the volume to between 8AM to 10 PM or whatever times you want. You can customize the times for each individual or for each entire group.

There are also features to let you adjust the volume that it rings as well as an automatic resume feature. Obviously there are times you can't have the phone ring, but you can turn CritiCall off and set the time for it to turn back on automatically. This works great in case you turn the volume down for some reason and you forget to turn the volume back up - you don't miss important phone calls.
If you have any issues or comments/suggestions, let us know at [email protected]. We want to know what features to add - we're already working on an on/off widget and also having CritiCall work for text messages too.

AutoRing - review here.
Uses a white list approach.
I was looking for the same thing coming from a BlackBerry and I found Bedside:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/bedside-(night-clock)/net.geekherd.bedsidepro2
I love it. It uses a whitelist so you just set up who you want calling/texting (which are seperate) and only those will ring through. It has a widget you tap to activate/deactivate so it is pretty simple too.
I use Toggle Settings pro, and it works well for this sort of thing!

[Scholarship] I wish there was an app that...

It would be magnificent if there was an app that could answer your phone calls. Let me explain by giving you a short example. Would it not be something if you could record a brief message before you head into your shower knowing your friend, mom, dad, whoever it might be, is going to call you? Then your phone would automatically answer your call and play the message for them. It would be very useful if you just needed to tell them something that would take a minute, but they were busy at the moment and it was too complicated to send it through text/email. Let us say that you are driving and somebody calls you. What then? If you answer you run the risk of an accident, but if you had the app, then you could put it in driving mode before you start driving. When this option is implemented, the previously recorded message for driving mode would play and repeat it to anyone driving. This amazing app that would keep us safe and be very useful at times would be called, Ansmart!

There is a picture on the link that explains my reaction.
To be more helpful, did you know you can also just ignore the phone call while driving or taking a shower?
Did you know you can also turn the volume off when you don't want to be disturbed?
In all seriousness, you can set up voice mail or a Google voice number, and then set your phone to forward call to that number with and automated response that you are busy.
You can also go under settings. Call settings.all calls. Reject call with message or auto forwarding.
No app needed....neat huh?
I use Google Voice for most of this functionality. You can set up custom messages pretty easily for certain people, groups, etc. And as qkster said, just don't answer the phone while you're driving, taking a shower, on the throne, etc.. People will understand, and most likely appreciate it.
In addition to being able to set up custom messages for groups, etc. on GV, there are other benefits. Free SMS is one that I use quite a bit. Also, one Google Voice number can be set to ring multiple phones. This is handy for me, since I have a very weak cell signal at home. Since my Google Voice number is set to ring both my home phone and my cell, I have a Tasker profile set to turn my cell antenna off and WiFi on when my home WiFi network is near. Since GV rings my home phone, I don't miss any calls. GrooveIP is also a good program to use with Google Voice, as it lets you make calls over WiFi using your Google Voice number.
EDIT: By the way, the OP looks a lot like

Probably the most useful app I've found on this site! I work constantly and have my phone on silent and I always miss calls and later have to deal with the whole "why didn't you answer" crap but now I can at least know instantly when I miss a call and notify the contact asap instead of hours later. Very helpful app will be purchasing soon.

Agree with others. So usefull and so simple! Gratz to you

[APP][3.0+][V1.0]Fast Callback - Call your contacts back by just one tap

Hi all, I am pleased to announce you that I have published my first App on the Google Play Store.
Let me introduce the App
Briefly, it is an utility which let you refuse an incoming call and immediately call your contact back by showing an overlay button over the screen.
From a developer's point of view, the most challenging issue was to be able to show an overlay Android's View over the smartphone's system screen which is able to react to button's events and can be moved by drag&drop in any position of the screen. At the same time, all the widgets under the floating view are able to react to their events as well.
Feel free to ask for coding details if you are interested in this topic.
Your feedbacks and suggestion on how to improove the App are welcome too!
Best Regards
barban

Official Description on Google Play Store
Fast Callback Free - Call your contacts back by just one tap
How many times in a day you refuse an incoming call from your relatives or your friends just to call them back? This is a very common task when you wish to take advantage of a more convenient mobile phone contract or just let your contacts not to pay when they call you.
When you receive a call this App shows an overlay button that let you refuse the call and immediately call your contact back; everything just by tapping one button! You can choose for which contacts the call-back function is available as well as the button's style, size and position in order to let the overlay button fit perfectly with respect to the screen which is shown by your smartphone when you receive a call.
This is the FREE version of the Callback App: it may display Ad at the end of the call started by the call-back function. If you wish, buy the Callback App for avoiding Ads.

☆ Allowing you -when in danger- to send a prewritten SMS message with your location to your Emergency Contact that you have already chosen, just by pressing the Emergency button.
☆ and by allowing your Emergency Contact -when he is worried about you- to find where you are by sending you an SMS message with a Location Code (which is preset by you), and then the app will automatically reply with your location.
☆ Also the app will send an alert SMS message to your Emergency Contact including your location upon changing your phone’s SIM card that may indicate a safety warning like kidnapping or robbery.
☆NEW☆ If you are in a very critical situation and you're not able to reach your phone, or if you had put your device in silent mode and you didn't notice that someone was calling you.. In either case when your Emergency Contact is worried about you and you didn't answer his calls, he can send you an SMS message with a Callback Code and the app will automatically make a call from your device to his number and set your speaker phone on, and that lets your emergency contact either to start talking trying to check up on you, or he just listens to the surrounding sounds trying to figure out the situation.
Additional features:
- The sent message will include a link can be opened by Google Maps or any internet browser to show your location.
- If the device can't detect your current location your last known location with its time and date will be sent instead (the app will periodically check your location every half hour).
- Only the device that should be located, must have the app installed on it, but your Emergency Contact mobile doesn't have to be an Android device at all, and of course doesn't need the app.
Non-emergency uses:
Although the app is used especially in emergency situations, it can also be used in many other situations, for example:
* If you are invited to a party but you get lost, you can use the “Emergency” button to send a message with your location to your host..
* If your phone was lost or stolen, you can find it by sending the location message code..
* And with the location message code, you can check for example if your child has arrived to his piano lesson, without interrupting his lesson to answer your call..
* If a senior person, a child, or someone with disability is not able to answer your calls, you can use the Callback code to check up on him.
Notice:
* Although your device uses to detect your location many different resources but being in certain locations (like being indoors, or underground..), may make this operation difficult if not impossible and take longer time to detect your location. For best results you should always keep Location enabled on your device, and having an internet connection.
