Well guys... I got the full details of the main bloke mass-selling the unlocker in the UK... so, anyone out there with advice on the move to make next... or anyone who'd like to help?
I wish you good luck Olipro, it's very anoying that someone is mass selling your work
Unlocker
I unlocked my device using your tool and it was successful without any issues... unfortunately (or fortunately (dunno)); I'm not living in the UK but I would like to help thou if I can
just give your sign man
Burn the bleeder!!!!
Olipro.
I'd like to think i speak for all.....
The amount of time you and others have spent is outstanding... and you do so for the community for free.
Having some guy take this "free for personal use utility" and sell it.. amounts to ... lets say... theft... and well deserved for a good kickin.
I know that ebay will take action to stop anyone selling a product if there is a copyright infringement. .. don't know if that is a path...
But.. Branding the utilities.. and basically making it clearly written that it is not ALLOWED to SELL... and if they purchased it.. please contact the seller for a refund.. will make it a real pain in the backside...
As for existing on sale products.... I'd put adds in totally copying the listing.. and making it free!!! or charge a penny... including the line...
"why pay XYZ £x.xx for this unlocker.. when you can buy it now for a penny.. (or we can make it less than the other seller....) and make the payments all go to the actual developers paypal donations account!!!
???
I'm happy to do it.. (i have an ebay account i really don't mind burning...)
PM me and we can do this...
Wasted effort.
You guys could probably find something far more productive to do with your time than wasting effort on someone who is selling something that was given away for free.
Just like Monster (like redbull) has been running around, giving away cans of their product. Anyone who wants to can sell those cans to anyone who is willing to pay for them. There's nothing wrong with that, either.
That isn't to say, I don't appreciate your efforts Olipro, I do. But frankly, even if you charged for it, I would pay you because it's worth it to me. Without a second thought as to how you came about it, whether you wrote it.
I simply couldn't care less--neither do any of this guy's buyers. Why should they?
actually, i was aiming for a settlement, but if that's not forthcoming then I'll lodge a claim.

what kinda help you looking for? I'm willing to help you, just let me know what you need
If it is only one (or a few) bloke you have a strong case.
I don't know wether I can be of any help as I am living in Holland.
As Olipro has already admitted he cannot copyright or licence this as he has hacked the AMSS.
"Yes folks... the one you've been waiting for... finally managed to get the patched AMSS to boot... a nice big "up your arse" to Qualcomm."
A hacker cannot licence anything they hack as it is someone elses work in the first place. He is also using a patched Radio rom. This Radio rom is HTC property, and as such he cannot licence that.
These threads are getting very boring, it is about time Olipro got a life, and stopped crying about it.
Tinman
^ ouch did he really just do that?
Yeah he did. Only problem with his statement would be if he used Olipro's HardSPL at ANY TIME in the past or present for ANY DEVICE that he wanted to flash a cooked ROM to. Pot calling the bong green? Let's find out...
(insert sarcasm) Hey Tinman, ever flash a cooked ROM onto an HTC device before?
*sigh* Seriously... I support Oli's "right to fair trade". He along with many others developed the tools *we all* use to make our phones as customized as we can make them (big props to you Oli; HardSPL v1 for the Kaiser is on point!), and some pond water scum (he did say it was a bloke, right?) is selling his FREE programs?! Yeah, I'd be looking to "settle" as well. So don't jump down *his* throat saying he needs to get a life. Try the word "hobby", since for most of us that's all it is, and I'm sure cooking, flashing and ROM development is a hobby for him as well.
Oli, you've got support here in the states, especially with us AT&Tingular folks. Keep up the good work, and if you find the fool(s) behind this, shove one of those Cricket paddles in his arse for us! Or at least reach some sort of agreement...
It was Des who first made a hacked spl, Pof then took it a stage further, Olipro's is based on those. So again not his work.
Tinman.

That is the stupidest example I have ever heard. This is more like someone taking redbull and selling redbull as their own brand, not a different one because they did nothing other than copy the EXACT software, ass.

The stupidest example you've ever heard, eh? "Well, no offense, lady, but what you don't know could fill a warehouse." --Bart Simpson.
If you buy a can of redbull, or if redbull gives you the can for free, you DO have the right to sell that exact can. Or as many of them as you wish.
You do not have the right to claim the brand as your own, but you do have the right to sell the item. These ROMs, unlockers, bits o' software, et cetera are no different.
The seller cannot claim that he has a copyright on them, or that he wrote them but he is perfectly within his rights to sell them whether anyone likes it or not. Rest assured, he can and will still sell them w/o claiming that he wrote them.

Hey, wouldn't it be grand if HTC, and AT&T and all the other guys that own these ROMs, et cetera, sent thugs to send all of the cookers here into the Rio Grande swimming face down? You know, because it "amounts to ... lets say... theft... and well deserved for a good kickin."
Oh, wait, you don't want that? Why is that, do you think?
Maybe those corporations could all just file suit against these guys? Would that be better?
Or would it be better that, like they do now, they just tacitly accept this stuff and generally ignore it?
i think the only thing you can do is sell your unlocker at a low price and add in one thing that most of the other sellers wont probably do. Give exact help. What better for a buyer to see is that they are buying the item from the creator.
Unfortuanatly there is no legal way to stop these other sellers and as long as good guys like yourself give us free brilliant programs your gonna get the odd ar*ehole thats gonna make money off it.
And to thoughs who ***** about how oli, why read his thread why use his program. God sake if your smart enough create your own program, and i hope you get someone that goes and sells your program and see how you like it!

What are you 12? This is nearly incoherent.
No one is saying Oli and the rest can't do what they do, or that other people cannot use their tools. They're saying that once you release something to someone else--you lose control over it, be that some software you hacked, some can of redbull, a used car, or anything else. I love what they do, I pay them for it, and I would even if they charged for it. That doesn't mean that they can control what others do with it.
Yeah, um haxx0rz rulz lol omg!

Wow, so we help HTC get to the place they are today (and don't underestimate our contribution) and this is the thanks.
Glad I'm getting a Dell in 2 months.
(Please tell me I misunderstand!)
MOD EDIT: PLEASE MIND THE LANGUAGE YOU USE ON XDA. YOUR TITLE WAS NOT SUITABLE AT ALL. EDITED. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS A WARNING, BREAKING THE RULES AGAIN CAN LEAD TO A VACATION.PLEASE CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS.
for some reason i feel the opposite towards this.
I am glad that they put a hardware chip that can bring the phone back to factory default settings. They probably did this because so many people had bricked their phones with no real way to get them back up and running so they had to send them in.... This way it should eliminate that whole process....
why this is good?
It will be cracked, and will give modders room to store custom roms or clockwork recovery on this... or.....
A MOD CHIP!!!! imagine a small mod chip that could enable or disable the chip. You muck up your phone, hit the switch... go back to factory defaults.
Reminds me of the old Playstations where I had to go get them chipped to be modded.
First off it was a pretty good read. Personally I would take this as yet another reason to keep up the awesome work done by the fine programmers here on XDA! Give them something else to "access & modify".
All in all, I never got the feeling of "eff off". But then again, that was just me.
What a whiner. Every day I'm more and more disgusted by some of the people on here. What have you personally done to help HTC aside from maybe buy a phone of theirs? What have they done for you? Oh, they gave you a miracle of modern technology. The ability to have a phone in your pocket which is amazing by itself, forget the fact that it can look up maps, browse the internet, play music and videos, etc.
What about people who don't even have phones?
You're sitting here complaining because of issues rooting a phone which YOU DONT EVEN OWN or intend to buy judging from your comments.
Let me also ask you this: Is the ability to root a phone a feature that is advertised or standard on any devices? Are phone manufactures supposed to be supporting this?

Would you be happy if you bought a car and told you you went allowed to mod it or accessorise it? What someone does with their own device is none of anyone elses business INCLUDING the manufacturer and provider. If I buy a sponge cake I should be able to add whatever decorations and icing I want, If I buy a PC I should be able to install whatever OS and programs I want. Is that so hard to understand?

hard to understand? not at all.
also, not true. you can't legally install apple OS on non-apple hardware. you can't legally alter an iphone. you can't legally mod your car with NOS or any number of other things.
there are still laws, and company policy to take into consideration. your argument is furthered by the fact that android is open source - but what that REALLY means is that Android can be thrown on any manufacturers phone with no limitations - NOT that any phone that has android HAS no limitations.
I WISH the world allowed us to do whatever we wanted without ourselves and our possessions, but that is simply not the case.

OK -
so first, where did I say I was never interested in this phone? If you care to take a look at my posting history you will see I'm desperate for a phone with a keyboard. (ROM issue aside) I did take a look at this phone but the screen is just a little too small for me and I just don't personaly like Android. If this is your ONLY argument, then you know you really have no argument - move along please, nothing to see here.
Second, you seem to be missing the grand picture. You see all those subforums for each phone right? Pay particular attention to the "ROMs" subforums for EACH phone.... delete them. IF I understand this correctly, none of the new phones (assuming they all employ this) will have cooked ROMs. Why do you think most of us are here? Thats right, because HTC ROMs out of the box are crap... cooked ROMs have certainly saved my use of HTC phones and to be honest, are one of the priamary reasons I would buy a HTC phone (and have!).
Third, if you had any idea what I was talking about you would know that this is not so much about the "phone" itself but the very fact that cooked ROMs will no longer be possible. If it was about the phone, I would have posted it in the G2 section.
So in summary, (and this might be hard for you) please, try to focus on the new "feature" of the phone rather than the phone itself. Also, try to stop assuming facts like I was never going to buy this phone and really, if this is the best discussion point you can bring, please use the "unsubscribe" option - do us all a favour.

I don't "feel" it is illegal. I don't believe it is wrong - but they have the legal right to tell me it is. that doesn't mean i won't do it anyway - I just don't lie to myself and say it is allowed... even if I believe that it should be.
there's a difference between recognizing the law and following it. I'm not saying I don't agree, that it sucks that they will lock out ROMs. BUT - I've got my Evo and it will last me for years, so i really don't care.
it's called reality. I'm not arguing that your opinion is wrong - i'm highlighting that it is just your opinion, and in this world they don't mean much.
tell you what though - you go ahead and organize the rally and once you get more than 1,000 people signed up i'll join.

Am I missing something or is the Chevron unlock a useless item now? If I have a new WP7 fully updated is there any hope of unlocking it at present? I am too used to Android already so it's going to kill me if this thing can't be hacked and I get put back in the corporate cage.
Please advise on any opportunities.
What phone do you have? If it's an LG, you can use the built in secret MFG app to modify the registry, and enable the developer unlock. (Which is all that Chevron does anyway).
If not... you may be able to downgrade. You can certainly downgrad the LG Optimus 7 by downloading the original ROM and installing using some whacky LG-specific 'modem' software.
I'm not sure what other options you have.

Basically, if you have the latest WP7 updates applied, there is no known method to unlock your device.
Someone will surely figure out how to crack it open again, but right now, there is nothing.

Didnt you just claim here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986628that WP7 is a joke? Really, for someone who claims android is so superior how hard can it be to take the WP7 device you dont like back to the store you got it from and get a device you actually like and NOT troll on the WP7 forums?

Someone posting claiming that using WP7 is like being in prison (not to mention creating another thread to bash WP7) doesnt really come across as someone looking for help. Is it really that hard to just move on from an OS you tried and didnt like, is there an unspoken rule that says you have to bash WP7?
Dang, sorry to get you MS fans ruffled. I really didn't mean to honestly. I didn't know that only certain people are entitled to an opinion here.
I got this particular phone because I work in a location where I KNOW for certain gets good reception. I'd have rather had an Android phone but didn't want to chance getting one that didn't have the same reception in that geographical area. Some phones radios are just stronger than others.
It'll do for making calls, texting and checking emails in a pinch. I truly didn't realize that the platform was wrapped up so tightly before I got it. If you've ever had an Android phone you should understand the shock factor after switching.
I still have my Droid and will use it primarily. I'll just keep the WP7 to use like the "may-pop" spare tire on a car until a way to unlock it again comes available.
Edit: And as for my other post that was linked...I am too used to reading in the other forum and not the WP7 section that I kinda forgot where I was. Apologies for that. Some of the issues folks need to know about before purchasing the devices though.
Grow a brain, look into what you are buying next time you purchase anything.
And you didn't get "us MS fanbois ruffled durr", you walked into a forum of people who enjoy a particular device and trash-talked it instead of being mature.

the xda people should make a program that computer morons, like myself, can download and plug our phones in and it just takes over and deletes bloatware then unlocks our phones and puts cool stuff on our phones.
i got shafted by a mobile carrier salesman who told me they would unlock my phone then after buying it, i called and they told me i have to wait til july before they would give me the unlock code. im not a computer pro so basically i got stuck with a phone that doesnt work in china. i specifically asked the salesman at time of purchase in december, " will they give me the code in march?" and he said yes. i also told him i was only buying it so i could use it in usa and china.
i love and trust this site. it is just too difficult for a computer moron like myself. people would pay good money to just be able to click on a button and let a program do its magic.
maybe this is a stupid idea, maybe it is a good idea. i dont know. i do know i would have gladly paid 25% of the phone price to just click a button and have a phone that isnt full of apps i dont want and works according to the salesman's promise.
is this idea any good?
ya we could do that, and then we could build a machine to cure cancer and aids! the sky is the limit!

If you want something like this you should buy an iPhone. This is a phone for rich people that don't now anything and just want it works. And if they broke something, they will just get a new one.
well i did get the phone unlocked and it was good i had to learn to do things myself. i am glad i dont have an iphone and glad that there isnt a program to do everything because it gives us the chance to choose what we want and to learn what we need. this site is great for learning that. thanks for your replies.

But you will have to wait until July in a couple years for that one. And only on the condition that the world ends in 2012.
Unfortunately it's basically impossible to build a phone that's everything to everyone. That's why you can narrow it down with platform choices. If you want it to work well out of the box and don't want to change anything yourself, go with iPhone, if you want to be able to personalize, go with Android.
Also, it should seem obvious, but never take a salesmans word for anything important to you - get it in writing. Too many either don't know what they're talking about, or are prepared to say anything to make the sale.

so true. i should have known better about salesmen in general. however, i didnt think at&t would leave me hanging to such a degree. they could have given me the code but that would make a customer happy and that is not their policy (happy customers.) thank goodness for xda members and their willingness to help.
So, here's my problem:
I bought a Blu Life One X3 late last year since it was on sale for $150 ($100 lower than the current MSRP).
Since it was still a new release, I thought that the modders would come after it eventually, so I just waited it out.
Many months later, there has been little to no word about any sort of root method, it seems like the Life One X3 turned out to be very unpopular.
So far, I have been able to get it into the OEM unlock screen using adb, prompting a press of either of the volume buttons to confirm unlock, only that the volume up button won't do anything, and the volume down just cancels the process.
Any help at all?
Big thanks!
Ferchito
Hi Xiione,
I bought a couple of X3s recently and I was also expecting some development for them already but I only found your thread.
I think there are chances to root the X3 and install customs rooms since it has the same chipset as the BLU Vivo 5 (Chipset Mediatek MT6753, CPU Octa-core 1.3 GHz) and the Vivo 5 has extensive coverage and even kernel sources available. Vivo 5 doesn't have a fingerprint sensor but the BLU Life One X2 Mini has one that I'd be willing to bet is the same as the X3, so drivers may work for it too. This is the route I will follow but I'm only getting started with this stuff so it will probably take a few weeks to get some results.
Hopefully others will join
Cheers
Hey dude!
Glad to see at least one other living human that bought the same phone... good to hear that there might be some hope for this poor device after all.
I'm not so experienced in this area, so there is only so much I can achieve at the moment. I'm looking forward to hearing back from you if any developments arise, I'll do my best to dig around for a solution.

You will not find a one click root for that device. The problem is Blu is still recovery from their security scandal. So most people won't buy their devices.
funny thing is... i don't really consider rooting devices as necessary as it once was (for me). But still... it bugs me to no end i can't get this phone rooted.
I'm having the same problem as the OP.. i'm able to get into fastboot mode, but oem unlock option leads to a dead volume up button which leaves me nowhere. it really is to bad there's so little interest in BLU. they make decent phones at great prices, imo. but i also know they make it very difficult for developers as well.. difficult to get source and such. ...

They are unpopular due to the security issues the company has faced. Not to mention they are just rebranded chinese devices. Which is why sourse is hard to get for them as they dont really make the devices.

I understand the security concerns. However, it's inconceivable that they would not have source, regardless of where the phones come from. If they released the code, more secure versions of the OS could be made available.

It's very common with rebranded Chinese phones. Micromax (and oem in India) had the same issue. The main issue is the oem doesn't release it as it's not required in China. And no it couldn't. The kernel source is only a small part of it.
Best bet is to be more selective with your next device purchase

Either way it's still the truth. Just do better research next time. Good luck.

I'm not the one that bought a joke of a device. Or spent money without doing any research. But ok. I have been doing this for decades. So good luck with that.

I do. I'll be at your preschool later today after nap time so if your a good boy you might get to see it. If you can stay awake passed the puppet show.
Look here is the bottom line. You bought a joke of a device. Because you didn't do research. Now you have malware as well as it reporting to Chinese servers all your private info (you can look it up if you want.)
But to save you asking mommy for internet time

So good luck with that. I hope you learn before another year goes by.

Your humor is unparalleled.
Can't say much for your helpfulness.
I'd throw rotten tomatoes at any show you put on though.

Well to be honest from your pic of devices 2 things are clear.
1. My shows would be above your station in life.
2. You couldn't afford my shows.
Look you were told all the help you are gonna get over the past year. And yet you keep trying. You know that's the text book definition of of insanity right?
Even if you managed to find the source guess what. Your bootloader is locked and there is no unlock. So if with the code You can do nothing. Not like you would be able to understand it even if you got it I fear.
Just accept that you messed up and move on. We all do it. It's called growing up.
Oh and next time you need help. Mugjt try a support site and not a developers site. But that might be above your head.

You really outdo yourself with every post. I am having a laugh.
But truly I say onto you: you don't understand my choice of devices. You ought to learn to let go and move on when that's the case case. Nobody and I really do mean nobody needs your condescension (read $h*t).

That is a BS excuse. With the internet you can have any device you want. Just save up for it. Its that simple. As for the condescension, you are ready far to much into things. You can get great devices for really cheap these days. I mean even almost good devices like Xiaomi are really cheap.
I was here long before you and ill be here modding devices and building the os for my device long after you are gone.
Let me explain. What happens to you and your device I really couldnt care less about nor does anyone here. It is your problem. Watch the Video if you are confused.

???
Your presumption that I need to save to buy a phone is almost cute.
???
Your blindness to your own condescension is simply sad.
Whatever else you do on xda, you clearly have nothing to contribute to this thread.
