Is there a way to change softkey assignmets?
For example, assign NubDial to longpress Search Softkey
Thanks!

there is. the only reason i asume so is because Handcent SMS lets you reassign search key.
Is there a way to re-calibrate them too then? I really don't like that the coordinates are set above the actual icons...

Yeah that's for sure - there are several apps doing that for themselves.. I thought there is an app letting you do that for other apps.
Anyway, would be nice if someone coded one

I'm interested in this too, but seems that nobody followed up on this thread. Is there any of you that figured out how to do that?
thanks
There's an app... called let me think... Button Shortcut... free on the market that allows you to remap (some/all?) of the long press functions.
I did exactly as above until I installed HelixLauncher2... mapped long press on search to NubDial.

i search forthis long time so let me know if there are some application that allows what i want. I know it can be only for root users.
I have an idea to application that allow user change function hardware keys.My idea is change search button to bring up app switcher.Be couse i really never used that button. I know many situation when we hold "HOME" to bring it up but it take me back to home+show preview screens +bring up app switcher (i know previews can be turned off by launcher but i want previews, they are cool). You dont need hold anything. It will be much faster switching betwean applications.
So you push HOME to back to home or bring up previews
and push SEARCH button to bring application switcher.
it is good idea?
sorry for bad english.
+1
a key-switcher app would be great
It's a pain in the ass, but there is a way to do this yourself.

I was just wondering if there would be a way to replicate the "genius button" and have it work with the capacitive search button on the evo, thanks
There's an app named vlingo that works better than the genious button and can be set up to come up by holding the search button
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yeah vlingo is much better they did a comparison of the two on androidcentral about 1 week ago and vlingo beats the genius button by a mile it even understands people with an accent
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Lol really?
Just long press the search button and Google voice search will pop up.
The "genius" button is a joke.
Genius button is not all that different than google search when hitting the magnifying glass button. They just relabelled it for the most part and stuck their own wrapper around it all.
Want something really good, then try VLingo. I am beta testing a newer version now that has an excellent search feature for places with nice icons for dialing, map, nav and web. Quite nice.

You need an unique key per beta tester that they send with it for it to work. Mine is already in use.

I know holding down the capacitive search button brings up voice search but what I was asking about the slide's "genius" button for was the complete voice command option rather than just having to google search with my voice
So thanks for the help

Google voice search is not just internet. Under settings you can specify what it searches against, including contacts, certain apps installed, etc.. It does a good job of pulling information together from across the phone.
Also, you can try VLingo as stated. It provides many different command types for your voice input including "find", "open", "email", "call", etc..

Is there any app that allows you to open the Home Long Press via a single tap on the home button? (i.e. not a long press)
Why would you want that?? then you'd have to long press home to goto your homescreen and that would be annoying this kind of app would also require root to
(i think)
Edit: Congrats for being 3 posts away from 2000

Because I want it.
And who said a long press was the only method of getting back home?
And yes, I'm rooted and running CM6.
I guess nothing like this exists?
I use a program called MoreRecent, which shows the last 15 opened apps, it's accessed with a long press on search, or you can place a shortcut to it on the home screen.
Not exactly what you want, but maybe helpful for you.
I can't post links, so search here on XDA for MoreRecent

Yep, I've seen that. If you check out the MoreRecent thread, you'll notice I've posted many times in that thread. It was actually my idea
But anyway, looking for a way to specifically do this with tapping the home button a single time.

If you have programming experience (or know someone who has) you could write a very simple home replacement app that would for a single tap launch whatever program you want, then on a double tap, launch your home screen, a bit like the app Quickdesk. That way you'll be able to intercept a single tap on the home button and still use the launcher of your choice with double tap.
Bump
multitasking and multitasking pro can do this
Hi guys, I wanna remap the capacitive search button on my Milestone so that it opens up the Message app instead of opening the search. I txt a lot so would rather map that button to a function that I use more frequently, rather than something that I barely use at all.
I know that if you have ADWSettings installed, you can go to "General Behaviour" and there is a setting to remap "Home button binding".
However, there isn't one for Search button. Does anyone know how to change it?

After having been naughty yesterday I feel like being constructive today.

An app which should be available on XDA as well.
MilestoneXT720 - CM 6.3.0 by MZ
I already know the ButtonRemapper app on the Android Market, however it's not freeware and is still in beta. I dunno whether the Milestone is supported by it or not so I don't want to risk paying for an app that might not even work on my phone. I would pay if it does support it, but seeing it's beta right now i'd rather find some freeware alternatives....
And yes, I DID try pressing down the search button. It doesn't support opening the Message app. I don't even think it does considering different custom roms already have pre-defined functions mapped to those keys.......i'm using TelusLite v5.2 btw.
Oh and the main point you guys are missing is that I don't want to HOLD down the button to activate the 'alternative' function. I just want the search button to open the Message app on a single press.
It should be for free on XDA. I mentioned it cause androidpolice stated it in their article.
Try before you buy:

Hi Guys,
since xposed doesn't support lollipop i wasn't able to change the menu button into a multitasking button any more but following this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2646304&nocache=1
I found a method that is applyable
In short:
you need a root file managersystemusrkeylayoutGeneric.klkey 139change "MENU" to "APP_SWTICH"save the file and reboot
Worked for me, by long pressing the menu button you can also use it in its original function
Hope I could help
Thanx
