Hi there, i just want to have feedback on my TaskOS app.
This application show to the users all the apps he opened and never closed. ( leave applications with HOME key and it will appear. Leave with back key and won't appear.)
The user can scroll between all these apps and launch one by clicking on it or kill it by dragging to the top ( like Palm PRE)
That's a beta, but all the mains features are there.
What do you think of it.
PS: i am looking for ROM developpers that would be able to launch it by long click on the "home" button or trackball/other.
Features
* customizable icon size
* wave effect ( i think i'll remove it)
* confirm killing app or not
* notification to launch easily ( looking for people who know ho to integrate this with long press on home button - trackball)
* more to come...
Will come
* theming the bar
* ignore apps by moving icon to the bottom
Screenshots:
Looks nice but why doesn't it show as many apps as say taskiller?
I'm using a Nexus One btw
For what version of Android is this? Can I run this on my 1.5 device with Sense?

I said it here: this application only kills ACTIVE app's. I don't want to kill other apps.

This version is Android 2.1 on my hero. But yes of course, you can use it on a 1,5 device with sense!
nice thought, i like it!
I'm running 1.6 stock and unfortunately it doesn't show up when
i leave any app with home-key, but i find the idea of holding
home-key pressed in order to show up really nice!
...and yeah, i stopped using *press-here-to-kill-all-tasks*
I kinda like it
some suggestions:
- gestures (like from down to up to open it)
- Lock the slide up feature while scrolling
- Maybe previews of apps (would require lots of mem somehow)?
- click anywhere other than the switcher to close the switcher
- don't display apps twice
BTW: what about making an app launcher like the wave launcher from webOS? shouldnt be too hard and very useful
I like the idea of a Pre app launcher, but I want to say something related to memory may bog things down a little bit.

alright. Nevermind the thumbnails by gestures i mean like a system one so you drag up from the bottom of the screen to open taskOS but i guess that isn't possible unfortunately... maybe use a longpress menu to open it? would be great if a different solution was possible to open the switcher up
see news here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5404622#post5404622 to launch with Home key, but i guess i won't have answers.
I think Google should allow users to make custom shortcuts by clicking on buttons!
Ignore function does not work on some screen sizes!!!!
I'll have a look thursday! Be patient
Could you possible add a memory counter at like the corner somewhere to show how much free ram we have? Also, any way to make this look/work a bit more like the WebOS cards if possible?
As for resolution I notice you have a Hero, so I take it you made the res for Hero(my Eris has the same res as the Hero)?

This isn't entirely true.
Some apps need to be force killed.
Android takes care of this only when the situation is really dire.
Why waste the valuable RAM?
Let's say you use App "X" once a day, but it's a resource (memory + cpu) hungry app, like Maps and derivatives.
Now, this is an app which will figure in the active list, but some of them like remaining in the background. Have 5 of those, and your system will work at a crawl.
Now try killing that app. You can really feel the difference, especially if you're using 7201A based handsets (that's 528Mhz).
Take a look at com.eolwral.osmonitor.
IMO, the best task manager around. And it's free (as well as ad-free).
why not mail the author and share some ideas?
You do have a innovative approach to task management (ui-wise).
i don't know if anyone has the same problems, but since last update i keep getting force closes when trying to kill an app!
edit: dis- and reenabling kill popup fixed the problem. weird.

Thank for the feedback!
You are the only one people that I heard having this problem... Really strange but i am glad that Taskos work again!
Next time, send me the logcat so i will be able to correct the bug!
Yeah, it would be nice if we could use TaskOS by holding home... The normal Android switcher is so useless.
very nice app ... will be essential if you find a way to use as task switcher (longpress home)
could you maybe add the option to hide statusbar icon?
also kinetic scrolling would be very welcome
Inertia in scrolling: seem to be so hard to implement.... You will have to wait.
Long press home: Developpers don't have access to this! I will investigate with Custom ROM developers. Imagine all apps can acces home button and you press it!
Ability to remove statusbar icon: will be done in next update.
I think that I left a bug in previous update. Nobody told me and i just corrected this evening. Sorry for the inconveniance!

there is. the only reason i asume so is because Handcent SMS lets you reassign search key.
Is there a way to re-calibrate them too then? I really don't like that the coordinates are set above the actual icons...

Yeah that's for sure - there are several apps doing that for themselves.. I thought there is an app letting you do that for other apps.
Anyway, would be nice if someone coded one

I'm interested in this too, but seems that nobody followed up on this thread. Is there any of you that figured out how to do that?
thanks
There's an app... called let me think... Button Shortcut... free on the market that allows you to remap (some/all?) of the long press functions.
I did exactly as above until I installed HelixLauncher2... mapped long press on search to NubDial.

Thanx for that..trying it now..
Edit: ok..one can set the "search button long press" for any app.
Hi all,
I would absolutely love to be able to toggle my Android wi-fi connection with a long press of the search soft key. This would be ideal when launching some app that would benefit from a faster connection and would save me returning to the home screen, activating the wi-fi and then returning back to the app.
I've searched everywhere to find an app, or combination of apps (Button Shortcut + something else) that could achieve this but have hit a dead end.
Anyone know of an app that could achieve this?
Alternativily I do have the Android IDE set-up at home, does anyone know how I can hook the long button press (from within all app's) and toggle the wi-fi connection?
Thanks in advance,
Nexus One user (I'm not rooted)
Ok, so I've come to the conclusion there's no apps out there at the moment that will do this so I have started writing my own.
I have successfully hooked the search button and can get a basic activity launched with a long press of the search key from the home screen and within other apps.
All I need now to is to find the code that allows me to enabled/disable wi-fi. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good example?
Thanks, will share my app once its finished!
I now have this working on my Nexus One, needs a couple of tweaks but it's nearly ready to release to the Android Market.
Would anyone care to do a bit of beta testing for me? If so I can PM the apk once it's ready.
Also, if appropriate can a mod please move this into the "Android Apps and Games" forum.
I have now released this to the Market as "In-App Wifi Toggle".
awesome app, thanks for sharing!

Can you tell me what phone and version you're using and what button you're using to activate the app?
I like it. I'm using an N1. I put it on the search soft key.
Works great on my HTC Legend with 2.1 Sense!
Thx!

Very nice... Has anyone tested this on a G1?
I have been using the Toggle WiFi app set to the keyboard shortcut (search-w) but this seems a little more "fluid"...
love it great idea fast easy way to turn wifi on and off

I have a friend with a G1 who's been doing some testing for me. The version on the market at present will only work on a short press of the green/call button. The search button on the pull out keyboard doesn't work. Now obviously a short press of the green/call button is normally assigned to shortcut to the phone app and most people won't want to re-assign this and so I have made some adjustments so it will now work on a long press of the green/call button. I will be releasing this update to the market in the next couple of days when I get a moment.
FYI I've just uploaded the new version with the added long press of Call/Green button.
Vary nice app, works as described on HTC Droid Incredible. Like how the systems gives me the choice of Wifi toggle or google search on the long press now. Very nice. Would have paid for it....
Any chance of releasing the source code for us wannabe devs to learn from? I'd love to modify the app to call a specific person on a long search press, as I find the dialer to be the most annoying part of Android.
Hi just downloaded it and works fantastic on my Legend!!
Thank you very much!

I will eventually release the source code yes once I've put my website together but not right this minute I'm afraid.
On a seperate note I've been beavering away coding "In-App Bluetooth Toggle". Frankly, its been an absolute slut because I would like the app to work with all versions of Android from 1.5 upwards but the bluetooth API only became available from 2.0. I've been using a complex combination of hacking and reflection to get the pre 2.0 versions working and now have a single app that works on both a v1.6 G1 and v2.1 Nexus One.
Are there any v1.5 (Hero/Moment/Magic/Pulse/CLIQ) users out there willing to do some debug testing for me? I can email you a APK file.
Any help appreciated!
You know what I'd love, it if there was a way to emulate all of the hardware keys, like Menu, Home, Back, etc on the screen rather than by using the hardware keys. Any possibility for something like that using your idea here for Wifi toggle?

Would you expect such an emulator to be visible always, in every application? That would seem rather intrusive in my opinion.
Great App. It works good on the HTC Wildfire. The only problem is I(we) don't have a call hardkey, therefore I can either use the wifi or the bluetooth toggle or use the popup menu(which is not very "clean")
Hi!
Can you share how you manage to capture long press on search button by code? It will be greatly appreciate
Thanks in advance!
in zens slide port, the normal shortcut add button leads to faves. is it possible to do something like that? i like how the app drawer is in the middle, just makes more "sense"(get it?)
tia!
ADDON:
(my ideal setup)
honestly, id like to JUST have an app drawer. we have a hardware phone button that works in taking you to the dialer in any app your in, long press has made the add button obsolete, but ovbiously the app drawer is still needed by default.
i know i know, go to launcher, but i like sense :-D
i know how to use metamorph, so i COULD make buttons transparent, but to switch around the actions...i think will take more dev'ing than im capable of. unless someone has a hardcore article i could read on remapping.

You guys kill me. Just saw this thread, as I happen to read miscellaneous posts while eating lunch .
I've never really looked at the feasibility of re-mapping buttons for such a purpose. Given that I personally don't have a similar want/need, not sure how much "effort" I'll put into, but I'll take a peek and see what, if anything, can be done.
Personally i love the sense widgets, but hate the bottom buttons, so i use stock home. If theres also a way to change the 7 screens to 5 or 3, that would be awesome. My ideal interface is somewhere between aosp and sense.
I've actually thought about this too and think it would be really neat. App drawer in the middle, phone on the side and replace the "Add to Home" button with something more useful. I never posted anything because I didn't know if it was possible but if it is then I'd love this!

Maybe replace the Add to Home button to Settings or Internet, personally i wouldn't mind figuring out how to change them and switch the phone button to app drawer and add to home to setting and change app drawers current button to internet, then my home screen would be clear.
We've had this convoy before, though slightly different....my preferred setup would be simply replacing the "+" button's add function with a second tray containing shortcuts to your contacts.....pretty much like the people widget, but in a drawer instead of taking up one of my pages. I like having the phone button in the middle, but if some can figure out how to remap the buttons, I wouldn't mind looking in to customizing the layout and functions. Right now, I'm not even sure where to start, lol!
anything different for the "add" button would be great! never understood the need since you can just as easily long press to add
Remapping existing functions is rather easy. Trying to add a new function to a button that does something completely different, though not impossible, would take a lot more work.
Here's a quick "proof of concept" video:
http://screencast.com/t/NDdkNDBmY
I've basically just remapped the application draw and phone launcher buttons to switch. I don't show the left icon press, but it pulls up the phone. Didn't show it in the video, as I don't want to reveal any phone numbers.
There are some bugs to iron out, but if you were to eliminate the left and right buttons all together, it would be good to go now. Currently, and I just started looking at this, if you press the right button, a variable is not getting reset, and then if you press the middle button, it will take you to the shortcuts rather than the app drawer again. But, as soon as you click the 'phone' button, now mapped to the left button, the app drawer in the middle begins working again...

Is there any app that allows you to open the Home Long Press via a single tap on the home button? (i.e. not a long press)
Why would you want that?? then you'd have to long press home to goto your homescreen and that would be annoying this kind of app would also require root to
(i think)

And who said a long press was the only method of getting back home?
And yes, I'm rooted and running CM6.
I guess nothing like this exists?
I use a program called MoreRecent, which shows the last 15 opened apps, it's accessed with a long press on search, or you can place a shortcut to it on the home screen.
Not exactly what you want, but maybe helpful for you.
I can't post links, so search here on XDA for MoreRecent

If you have programming experience (or know someone who has) you could write a very simple home replacement app that would for a single tap launch whatever program you want, then on a double tap, launch your home screen, a bit like the app Quickdesk. That way you'll be able to intercept a single tap on the home button and still use the launcher of your choice with double tap.
Bump
multitasking and multitasking pro can do this
