there's one at marketplace....

Moved as not software release.

I think I may have been unclear.... what I meant to say was is there a program for PocketPC (WM6) that is similar to WhiteNoise for the iPhone?

Maybe describe what WhiteNoise does? Or link to the app?

Yep, never heard of WhiteNoise....do provide some details!

http://www.tmsoft.com/iphone-whitenoise.html
Seems to be a media player which plays relaxing tracks.

White noise is static hiss. You hear it when you turn your AM/FM radio or TV set to a "invalid" channel. It's said you can hear ghost voices as well har har, hence movie with same name. It's great sounds! Actually there's a whole "music" scene around it! Well, the application on MS Marketplace is just generating such noise. I haven't tried it but the description says so. I don't know what the iphone app is doing, but if you want white noise then get this app from marketplace.... or what else are you looking for?

I have been looking for the same thing. Something like http://soundsleeping.com/ but in APP form. Their is WhiteNoise by Arkansoft but it costs money. they do offer a trial version though.

Portable Media Center PMC interface for PPC?

does anyone know if a interface like the PMC interface exists for the pocket pc device? i reckon someone could hack or mock the interface on a new media player but its damn impressive if there was one.
heres a video of it in action:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3428996358728158914
it anoys me why microsoft doesnt release this for the ppc. some of us like to listen to our music n videos on our devices too..
the new ZUne device will have this same interface. albeit probably upgraded. imagine if we could have that n transfer our songs via bluetooth/wifi before the zune even comes out haha.
The O2 atom has something fairly similar to that, it's called O2 media plus. Details here. http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaAtom/template/XdaAtomApplications.vm/n/exclusive
I use it daily and while it is basic enough, it does the job.
cool. can you send that over this way? ftp or megaupload? thnx
whats taht diagnostic thing? if u could upload too that'd be great.

Exactly as it says It runs a whole load of diagnostics on the various bits and bobs on the Atom. I doubt it very much that this would work on non-Atom hardware.
It may not be that easy to port these software to non-Atom unit. As it has been done for O2 Plus and SMS Plus, some sort of hacking are required such that these software can be installed into non-Atom units. Further, as I've noticed on the media-center-interface thing, it has the radio option there, of which a lot of the phones here do not have, of which the interface program may go wanky.
Anyway, it is still feasible, just don't put your hope too high
I'd realy lova a Media Center kind of app...
anything similair on the web somewhere?
couldn't google it.

Business Ringtones

Anyone got any normal, telephone sounding, non-embarrasing ringtones? Need something that sounds a little more professional than my current one
What do others use?
Thanks
any wav, mp3, wma or midi you can find online would work
or you can record another phone rining using your pda or pc
or sing a rind tone yourself
google finds all
I use the Old Phone ringtone. It's included on the device.
Attached is the "Bronze" and "Steel" ringtone from the B&O phone, I use "Bronze" for SMS and it is very discreet and professional sounding, but my ringtone at the moment is this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=s8MDNFaGfT4&mode=related&search=
OMG, that banana rules!!! of course i know that animated cursor it's made of, but still, thats just f...ng LOL. thanks ;]
i use spb phone suite and when i'm dealing with something "professional" i switch to a profile which has the old phone ringtone.

you got anymore B&O ringtones?
As I understand it, those are the only two tones it has. Someone else in another post extracted them from the website, which only features those two.
Edit: Sorry to pollute the thread, but Family Guy afficionados may also appreciate these little offerings (also great for SMS).
Thanks for everyones posts, but I'm still none the wiser! (even after spending over an hour googling for ringtones...)
Surely people out there must have a decent, 'phone' sounding ringtone that they use when Family Guy etc wouldn't go down too well?
Perhaps I have spotted a gap in the market.....www.business-ringtones.com .... www.boring-ringtones.com ..... etc
with a quick search with this
http://www.google.dk/search?q=phone+.wav&btnG=Søg&hl=da

http://gallery.mobile9.com/f/14462/
http://www.payphone-directory.org/sounds.html
if non of these hits or others from the google search helps you
i sugest you specify what you are looking for
because i sure never heard a ring tone that made me go
"damm that sounded like a business and or boring phone rining"
....
Damn, none of those sounded like a business ringtone.... only joking!!
Thanks mate, will take a look....but don't you just hate it when people find things instantly on Google, after you've spent ages looking?!?!
I'm still starting www.boring-ringtones.com BTW...gonna have some reeeeeal boring ringtones on there.
I use the CTU ring from the show 24 as my ringtone.
Sounds like a phone, but not the same old same old.
How proffffesssionallll do you need?
I dont use ringtone, if you are pro. vibra only!!!
You can create your own ringtones, well they are more like statements as if your phone is speaking to you. Go to AT&T text to speech
http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php#top
type in what you want it to say and chose your dialect, try it out and when your happy with it then download it as a wave file - easy - and free.
Different statements for different profiles, I use Phone Alarm and at 10:00 each night the phone switches into "flight mode" and my XDA Exec say
"Flight Mode has been activated"
www.zedge.com have a voice and effects tool which makes tones and sms for free
Heres a cool idea, which I happen to use. Download a text-to-speech program like coolspeech. Program it to say:
"(Your Name), you have an incoming call".
Save it as a wav and drop it in my ringtones folder. Very simple and professional.
Just had a good laugh on the AT&T site writing stupid messages to have it played back to me....ah well, passed at least 2 mins....
Anyway, back to the point.
Just to briefly specify what I'm looking for (still didn't find it from Google even after your help Rudegar)-
- a telephone sounding ringtone, but not like an old phone with the bells on, just a gentle, not shrill, modern sounding telephone.
Surely there's one somewhere???
download the ringtone here.
http://www.ccir.ed.ac.uk/~jad/ringtone.html
simple and sweet
ITS PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!
lol
The Ring-Standard included in WM6 sounds pretty professional and "non-wierd". Might be an easy option if you have WM6.

I quote from their sales pitch
"Housewives – shopping lists, cooking recipes, time of important TV program and “to-do” list for the day- all this you can keep as voice notes with VITO AudioNotes instead of hundreds of stickers on the fridge. "

low-latency, high quality voice chat software

hay guys,
wanted to know if any one had a nose about the open source Mumble VOIP chat prog..?

Would love to see a PPC app made on this.. any one have any idea if this is praticaly possible or not. it works much like Ventrilo's VOIP.
vent(ventrilo) has a PPC clone called centrilo. sadly with the new update of vent senrilo nolonger works
p.s. well when i say it dosn't work i mean the 3.0.xx update to the server. the old 2.xx sumint still works. but i dont want to dirty hack it to work. WM needs a good FREE!ap to do much the same thing. not asking much: a hub, maybe a few rooms/channels, i can live with 16bit audio if my device flys and dosn't lag.

Make from your pda a webcam

Recentely I was wondering if it was possible to use your windows mobile pda as a webcam. During business trips I always have my mobile with a camera with me. Why buying a webcam...
This is in short how it works (and it is free):
Download mymobiler: http://www.mymobiler.com
Download VH screen capture driver: http://www.hmelyoff.com/index.php?section=8
Start mymobiler and activate your mobile camera
Grab the part of the screen you want with VH screen capture
Now you have a webcam stream which you can use in any program like skype, msn etc..
Look at this video as example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wveANUBUIJM
Instead of using the microsoft remote tool use mymobiler. It is much faster.
PS: You need active sync to communicate with mymobiler
Edited to not hurt feelings
Thanks for the new thread!!
first time i have seen this method. ty.

thanks for this thread. this was always something i wanted to do, but was never a big enough of deal for me to remember to search for it. seeing your thread and reading the other linked threads reminded me how cool of an idea this is.
It is easy to say it is old news if one has time to sit around all day long just monitoring what's going on in a website with nothing else to do besides familiarizing oneself with every single item published, every single pda/phone launched on earth.
It is never straightforward to find the right content when one searches. The amount of rubbish one finds is overwhelming. Internet/seach/google, all this is great but it is never that easy to find the right words/sentences to put in a search mechanism, even more so when English is not your first language and the gobbledegook that passes for speech nowadays. It starts for example when you type in dolls in a search because you have girls and want to find gifts and what you get is porn, porn and more porn! Get my meaning. One gets fed up with searching and getting nothing useful.
Besides, other people may have other needs, families to care for, and just a few minutes in hand to spend looking at this great community. Some people may have a life!
Is it that difficult to understand the word solidarity? Or maybe I am in the wrong community? Maybe so! I was hoping not and the big egos could be shelved once in a while. Ou maybe this community is only for, only wants and deserves to be for developers to developers, nothing else.
I too get fed up with people that don't do a bit of leg work first but sometimes, just sometimes somebody can bring something new to the discussion even when cases are old, without reinventing the wheel.
End of rant!
how do you get the camera to show up over mymobiler? I've used mymobiler for a while now but when I turn on the camera (Fuze/Touch Pro) it just shows a blank screen (all black) and same is true with the MS app. It shows me the settings in the camera and the rest of the dialogues but the actually camera image does not show. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

I realy think it has something to do with the interpretation between your pda screen resolution and the windows screen resolution.
The first thing what comes up is te change your windows screen resolution to for example 16 bit color with 800*600 pixels and see what happends.
You can change your setting in windows by hitting the right mouse button on your desktop. Then choose properties -> Setting.
Pressing F5 in mymobiler could help as well.
This may help as well:

They can handle more screen resolutions

Yes I know this application. It seems to work ok.
I just wanted to share something on this site which is free....
But I think if someone is willing to pay for this software it is a good alternative.

You can also try VZOmobile application. It can turn your phone into portable camera and video can be recorded remotelly to PC during video call. Unfortunately only Windows Mobile based phones supported for now.

Not worked on my 838Pro (HTC Hermes, WinMobile5).
You can also try SmartCam http : // sourceforge . net / projects / smartcam
works for WinMo 6.x: bluetooth, Wifi, USB (active sync and ppp_peer as server name).
Enjoy
