Portable Media Center PMC interface for PPC? - General Topics

does anyone know if a interface like the PMC interface exists for the pocket pc device? i reckon someone could hack or mock the interface on a new media player but its damn impressive if there was one.
heres a video of it in action:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3428996358728158914
it anoys me why microsoft doesnt release this for the ppc. some of us like to listen to our music n videos on our devices too..
the new ZUne device will have this same interface. albeit probably upgraded. imagine if we could have that n transfer our songs via bluetooth/wifi before the zune even comes out haha.

The O2 atom has something fairly similar to that, it's called O2 media plus. Details here. http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaAtom/template/XdaAtomApplications.vm/n/exclusive
I use it daily and while it is basic enough, it does the job.

cool. can you send that over this way? ftp or megaupload? thnx
whats taht diagnostic thing? if u could upload too that'd be great.

Erm, I'm a newbie around here. How does one do that exactly?

Exactly as it says It runs a whole load of diagnostics on the various bits and bobs on the Atom. I doubt it very much that this would work on non-Atom hardware.

It may not be that easy to port these software to non-Atom unit. As it has been done for O2 Plus and SMS Plus, some sort of hacking are required such that these software can be installed into non-Atom units. Further, as I've noticed on the media-center-interface thing, it has the radio option there, of which a lot of the phones here do not have, of which the interface program may go wanky.
Anyway, it is still feasible, just don't put your hope too high

I'd realy lova a Media Center kind of app...
anything similair on the web somewhere?
couldn't google it.

Looking For Free IM App For WM6/SmartPhone, and free SSH app

Hi. I'm running a T-Mobile Dash with Windows Mobile 6, and I'm looking for a free IM client that can connect to AIM, at least. I know Windows Live gives me Pocket MSNIM, but only a tiny minority of my friends use that. The on-board Oz Instant Messenger refuses to work with AT&T, and I just get error messages, so I'm kind of at a stand-still right now.
The other thing I'm looking for is a lower priority, I'm trying to find an SSH client for my SmartPhone too. PocketPuTTY, I've heard of, but I can't seem to find it. Again, I'm cheap, so I'm hoping for something free.
There's one catch to all this: I'm running a Mac, so EXE installers are no-go. CABs and SFX (Self-Extracting ZIPs) are usable, but anything more complex isn't going to work.
Thanks for all the help!

Welcome to XDA-Dev
Rule of thumb: follow my articles - I've published full Bibles and roundups on almost all aspects of handheld computing. Your question is answered in the Smartphone General forum, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323654
Let me know if you need help in extracing the CAB file of any EXE installers - I'll upload it for you.
Oohh, useful!
Well, thank you. Your article was thorough, and (in the end) informative. I was aware of Mundu, IM+ and Imov messengers, and I was hoping someone had an alternative to them that was free. Your article eventually lead me to the Basic version of Imov, but the problem is that it's one of those set-up EXEs that I can't seem to crack. I've managed to find a download of Imov Basic 1.22, and I'd be willing to provide it for you.
Thank you for the offer, and all the help.
is there any cracked verson available for mundu

Have you tried Palringo yet?
Fring is a free IM app too(Just released a new version today that supports AIM). Palringo is pretty good too.

Since I don't see it mentioned, you may be able to use PocketPuTTY,
http://www.pocketputty.net/ ,
for a SSH application. It works for me. The file that you download while named PocketPuTTY.exe is a Windows Mobile binary. Just copy it to your phone and run it. Hope it works for you.
So regarding IM clients Do they all use webgateways provided by the Makers. Are there any that directly connect to the AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN Servers?
Not that I walk around wearing a tinfoil hat. but I just like to know where my data is being sent.
Octro Chat uses one. But I can't find any info as to if mundu uses one. If they all use it I will get over it but I was just curious is anyone knew.
pocket putty doesnt run on smartphones just ppc. i am also looking for a free shh client for smartphone (wm standard)
if your looking for just aim..this is about as good as your gonna get lol

For shure will be like WM6 was for all WM5 PDAPhones (TyTn,3600...etc)
to bad thats a smartphone OS shown there and not a ppc OS
WM7...
...will have nearly same features that iPhone showed last year...
To me looks to be the next zune device, as you can see one of the screenshots where the mp3 is playing. A copy cat of IPHONE definately but nicer feel of the OS we currently use on the kaiser.

Windows Mobile 7 will dramatically change the way we use mobile devices. It will emphasize the use of touch on the device, as well as motion gestures created by using the device. It is, absolutely, Microsoft’s effort to beat back the iPhone, and the iPhone is referenced several times in the document.
Windows Mobile 7 will use touch gestures, similar to how the iPhone does. You will be able to flick through lists, pan, swipe sideway, draw on the screen. A lot of emphasis has been put on making navigation easier and doing away with scrollbars, including a new scroll handle that allows for multiple ways of finding items extremely fast.

Also, row 1 column 2 shows a SIP keyboard. I think this is the PPC version.
Well it certainly looks like more then just a skin face lift, looks pretty darn cool. I hope we can use it on our recently new devices, but when they say that gestures will be controlled by a camera looking up through the screen, i dont know if that applies to device hardware we have now?
Id on' really know how the biotouch stuff works right now
edit: ohh they must mean the actual camera on the back/front f your device that would do that sort of recognition I guess. I just remember seeing this youtube video of a microsoft screen witht hat "shock" technology where the guy said the screen had a a camera under it so it was able to follow all your gestures etc.. perhaps nto the same tech we are talkigna bout here I suppose.
It sure looks interesting. One thing though:
It will feature graphical transitions, subtle effects, and other things to make it more interesting to look at.

My fears are that - as with Vista - it's a lot of window dressing with limited (added) functionality. And for all that window dressing, we need more power. More power means more battery power. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'd rather have a dull looking tool than a great looking gadget.
At this moment, the Psion 5MX that I used to own, beats a WM6 device on functionality. Hands down.

I just have to say, if you read the tech docs, Vista added a LOT under the hood - it's not just an XP "skin." Truth is, I even see a lot of added functionality in plain view as well.

This really doesn't mean anything... just because it looks like a Zune doesn't mean it IS a Zune. As I posted in this thread a month ago (to VERY little fanfare ), MS has an entire department dedicated to giving WM the functionality of a Zune. It's called the "Pink and Purple Project."
The only thing that scares me is that they'll make it SO much like the Zune that I'll lose my Media Player functionality - I remember reading that Zunes have proprietary software and don't use WMP - they're not even "PlaysForSure!" Not sure if that's accurate.
However, can't Media Center convert saved shows to a low quality and sync up with a Zune automatically over WiFi? How sweet would that be for my Tilt!

I thought the pictures show touch screen and Smartphone doesn't have touch screen does it? anyway, someone will make that keyboard available sooner than WM7 for sure
How can you work the gestures without a touchscreen? So it's for PPC.
Thanx for sharing the info

If you've read anything about Windows Mobile 7 you would know that Microsoft will not have different SKUs for SmartPhone or PocketPCs this time around.
It will be one size fits all. (Probably still in a few different flavors so OEMs can chose one with Office and one without etc, but the general functionality, look and core will be the same)

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I think think this Smartphone vs. PPC argument is moot.
You see, the gestures and touch features (such as dual touch) described in that document can't be done with Smartphones OR PPCs yet. They require the new touch system that the iPhone has (using electricity from your body vs. pressure on the screen), and thus these features (and maybe WM7 entirely) will depend on an entirely new generation of devices.
As such, if WM7 is truly such a huge leap, I doubt we'll see the entire thing released for the Tilt - I'm sure some chefs will extract and add features to WM6, but looks like the Tilt and ANY WM6 devices at this point won't be able to handle that stuff.
(That's not even my $0.02 worth, because there's a distinct possibility that I have no idea what I'm talking about...)
I found this, SEXY
http://microsoft.blognewschannel.com/archives/2008/01/06/exclusive-windows-mobile-7-to-focus-on-touch-and-motion-gestures/
Citrap
Seeing as the kaiser has no accelerometer, that feature is useless...
And for all you noobs who are going to say GPS!!!, that is no where in hell as accurate as i needs to be to detect in/out in 2 or 3 inches (pulg.)

Would love to see a PPC app made on this.. any one have any idea if this is praticaly possible or not. it works much like Ventrilo's VOIP.
vent(ventrilo) has a PPC clone called centrilo. sadly with the new update of vent senrilo nolonger works
p.s. well when i say it dosn't work i mean the 3.0.xx update to the server. the old 2.xx sumint still works. but i dont want to dirty hack it to work. WM needs a good FREE!ap to do much the same thing. not asking much: a hub, maybe a few rooms/channels, i can live with 16bit audio if my device flys and dosn't lag.

[REQ]Looking for developers, Spotify for mobile!

Hello. I'm sure the majority of this site know what Spotify is. And I've discovered some great stuff, that maybe could be ported to a WinMo device.
I'm really, really bad at coding, so I don't know if this is possible, but hey, why not, it's worth a try, right?
So, to the subject. Some Swedish hackers have hacked spotify and made a program to connect to their servers and stream music. It's all opensource, altough no GUI is available.
So my request is, port this program to a WinMo device, and make a nice graphical interface!
Here is the link to the program.

Come on people, someone? Make the code mobilefriendly and a nice GUI, somebody/a group must be able to do it?
Nobody? would love spotify in the mobile!
Still nobody that can look in to it?

despotify can't be ported to windows mobile. even though its possible, winmo doesnt have a native python runtime, the app would be huge, and to slow to actually be usable.
a new app would have to be programmed in C/C++ or C#
i would love this app two im a big spotify fan and use it alot
+1, seriously now spotify exists for Android and Iphone!
I have been working on a Windows Mobile Spotify client called mySpot.

i read on the blog that they are coding a java version. cant we just throw the java **** on your phones and run it in java?
I've ported despotify/jotify to C# (compact framework), and will release a working Windows Mobile client whenever I manage to build a nice GUI.
Maybe, some day, I will combine it with my old Grooveshark player, and create a all-in-one music app.
Stay tuned

i have tried all of the apps in the market and believe that i can make something better. i main problem i have is that i use my xbox as a media center extender in my lounge, and none of the current apps support that.
also none of the current apps have any feedback from media center. i want to be able to browse my media on my phone, and then start it playing in media center.

yes a truly useable app hope to see final version soon
I've been looking for something decent to control my media center for a while now. gmote and myremote are decent, but I'm always looking for something a bit more comprehensive.
You have my blessing!
I would definitely use this!
great to hear there is some interest.
just to let you all know this app is currently in development, and whilst i cant give you all an eta. i hope it wont take too long to get this app out into the wild.
Hi all, sorry for no updates,
been very busy in the studio and working on Music Mod.
The app is getting there, however i need to start work on the server and thats the bit that is confusing me. im an android dev, so windows development is very confusing to me haha.
Anyone wana help? tweet at me.
+1 I would love to see this sort of app....I use my 360 like that too!
Plz Make one.
UI is soo awesome.
Plz make sure it works on most phones.
like Samsung Spica i5700
to keep u all updated, i have been working on a couple of other projects so havnt had time to spend much time on this, however the problem im having is working on the windows side of things, as to be honest i only really know android.
Eliot
I'd love an app like this. Hopefully you'll find someone to help with the windows dev.
is this project dead now? it's actually a good idea, wmc always gets updates, could get complicated... but, anyway, nice project!
Have a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wssxuN-OYvk
That's by far the most awesome remote control app ever created...
