Google Maps 4.0 - Omnia II i920 CDMA

Has anyone tried out the new GMAPS 4.0 on their device? Has anyone got it to work when using GPS? I installed it and everytime I click on Use GPS it crashes the application. This use to happen to my old I910 with version 3.32 and not sure why.

Version 4.0 works perfect on mine and I get a quick lock on GPS. Maybe you should try reloading it.

i get a gps satellite lock inside in under thirty seconds with 4.0

I had this same issue as well. I had to revert back to v3.2.1 to use the app.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times and the same result. I also reverted back to an older version.

wow, I just got my i-920 omnia2 about 4 weeks ago and it was about 3 weeks ago I downloaded and installed google maps. it is version 3.3.0. when did they come out with version 4? the one I have works fine. takes a while to acquire satellites. I just tried out that latitude yesterday. very cool thing, but it didn't work. but the phone that I was "tracking" had latidute running then "exit". it asks if you want to still send location info and yes was selected. per google, when in this mode it sends signal based on cell tower info--does this to preserve battery life since if the gps were on constantly and sending signal if would drain it. cell tower info not as accurate. but it didn't work at all. showed essentially no movement. was going to try to leave google maps open and thus sending gps info to see if it worked that way.
oh, to original poster--didn't the i910 have gps locked so you couldn't use it except for verizon stuff?

The GPS on the I910 was unlocked. I used IGO8 as well as GOOGLE MAPS and BING.

GPS
I have the i920 and have installed the google4 with no problems. The gps was locked within one minute, didn't time it but was within 10 meters.

Just installed Google Maps 4.0 yesterday -- works AWESOME on my i920, gps lock within 30 seconds when outside. Unfortunately still no navigation like they have on the newer android devices (grr, google bastadz!) but it most certainly does not crash.
What ROM are you using, and did you uninstall the older version manually before installing the new one? Also try using SKTools' uninstaller -- that will also scan for left behind registry keys \ temp\cache files and remove them.

Well I installed the newest version which is 4.1 with the voice command and it works great.

Working great
I would make sure you have the version available for the windows 6.5. Other than that I can't think of anything that would cause this problem besides the fact you don't have the GPS turned on for both the phone and the program.

How to use GPS with Googlemaps preinstalled.

Hello everyone,
I have a HTC Touch Pro since october 2008 but are still unable to use the gps with google maps.
Google maps is preinstalled on my device but can never use the gps to locate my position.
Now I heart something about unlocking your gps of you htc touch pro before you can use your gps in google maps.
This is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=490400
I don't know if this is suitable for my HTC Touch Pro too.
I hope somone can help me.
Thanks a lot!
Rick
what rom are you running right now? Assuming you're using a GSM phone, I doubt verizon's method would work for you. Try flashing a new rom.
Rom version: 5.05.404.1 NLD
There is no newer rom version.
I bought my HTC Touch Pro without a carrier, so my HTC Touch Pro is unlocked.
But I can't use my GPS with applications as Google Maps as long as my GPS is locked.
But I don't know if I can use the fix which is discribed in the link I placed.
In GoogleMaps: Menu > Use satellite...
and wait for a fix... (could last up to 4-5mn depending on reception conditions)
But before, check in GoogleMaps options that you have let Windows to handle (integrated) GPS.
Yea it sounds ass backwards, but what he said is true. If your turning it on hitting gps and you get nothing,, thats about right. Wait a bit and see what happens. I use my phone for geocaching almost daily, and am running the stock att rom. My gps works perfectly besides the fact that it takes around 30 secs to lock. However trying to run (most) third party apps WITHOUT googlemaps running first. It will just sit there all day and never get gps. (depends what program were talking about but most will never get lock until google maps is running)
what radio are you on?
Also, I had a terrible time getting a GPS lock with Google Maps on my unbranded Touch Pro.
Recently I downloaded the latest version from www.google.co.up/gmm (think that's right enter it into your Opera browser) and it has improved tremendously. No GPS locks a lot faster - less than 30 seconds, whilst previously it would take minutes or not at all.
Try downloading a newer version and see how that helps.
Thanks!
All of you!
I download a new version of Google Maps and installed it.
After that I set all the properties the same as I had under Start>Settings>System>GPS.
And after about 20 seconds I had a fix and it worked.
(and this was in house)
Now just at the street I get a fix in about 5 seconds and I have a log of zero until one.
So thanks all!

GPS Questions

Guys, I have a rather stupid question, and feel free to flame my newbness on the question all you want, I'm just trying to find an answer, for like monthes now...
I have NEVER been able to get my GPS to work, not even once.... It's been a problem for so long, that I eventually just told myself, well I guess I have to pay AT&T for that..... but I don't see why that's the case....
I have tried all of the programs, HTCGPSTool, QuickGPS, Google Maps, etc, all with multiple ROMs.... Right now I'm flashing the Official Update to see if I can get it working with that, but I'm truly dumbfounded.... It has never once, ever gotten a lock, or even found satellites.... It's making me want to bring my fuze to warranty center to try and get a new one
Information about my device:
I have installed HardSPL, usually run EnergyROM latest build, with Radio 1.14.25.05
I've had the phone since last Nov so something different has always been running on it, and not ONCE has my GPS worked for me....
Any ideas?
Thanks
Try first turning on ChartCross GPSTEST (in GPS folder on Energy Rom) wait for lock and then turn on your desired GPS program. BTW Google maps only works with aGPS (needs internet). I recommend TomTom (what I use), iGo or Gramin.

Thank you so much!, worked perfectly!! I'll check out the TomTom software, Google Maps is super slow, it would just annoy me
Thanks!
GPS
I recently gave up on the hit and miss of Pocket CoPilot v6, and now I just load GPSToday to run in the background to get the sat connection and now PCP works like a champ. FINALLY!
Can't wait for v8 this year!
I would like to confirm that TomTom is infact the bomb, works perfectly
I'm using version 7.915.9196 with USA and Canada Maps V-830.2323 reccomend anyone to check it out
garmin is so much nicer than tomtom. the interface is prettier and easier to use. it does cost alot though. i thought it was worth it.

i would recommend u change ur radio to 1.12.25.19 and install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468249 <-- its a program called fusion GPS that gets a lock upon restarting ur device so u wont have to wait for that long dreadful first time lock. also that Radio is the best GPS radio i have found so far, works even faster with aGPS, i have used that radio and i get like 3-15sec lock outside and 30-80 sec lock inside my house, depending on if am close to a window or not

it always keeps timing out after the five minute interval.... maybe because my data connection doesn't auto-start on boot.... any way I can make that happen? but even when i do go start it, it still times out... seems ChartCross has been the best for me, and with aGPS, it will get a lock pretty quickly

I've had this exact same problem when also running latest Energy rom with radio 1.14.25.05, (I also have a lot of problems keeping a constant wifi connection even at full signal but thats another story).
This morning i flashed back to my original stock rom (vodafone uk) and although i had to wait FOUTY FIVE minutes for my first GPS signal i now have no problems with the latest version of TomTom and my uptodate USA & Canada map (i now live in Montreal)
Im going to run the stock rom for a day or two to see how it should run, then switch back to the Energy "Magic" rom as i really like that one out of all the 6.5 Roms.
Very strange.
Still the only way I can get it to work on a cooked ROM, is to use ChartCrossGPSTest.... wait until it says GPS Running, and go launch TomTom, leave ChartCross minimized

Stock Verizon GPS stopped working

So I land in Orlando on vacation, get my rental car, and enter the hotel address into Maps ready to push the navigation button as soon as I'm out of the garage. I do this and gps can't get a fix. I start driving in a random direction assuming it'll get a fix soon. Long story short, it never does!
I've been using gps, maps, navigation all with no issues until now. Had my phone since mid July. Tried restarting, tried battery pull, of course gps on/off a million times. Downloaded a free gps test app - if I was reading it right it seemed to show about 8-12 satellites it was picking up but 0 fixes. It's like the gps hardware is working fine but it won't get a fix on my location.
I'm on stock ROM. Haven't done anything weird or installed any new apps other than a fee games.
Any suggestions? I was counting on having maps/navigation while on vacation.

The only thing I can think of is reprovision/factory reset. *2767*3855#. You'll lose EVERYTHING on your phone though. Make a backup first. If that doesn't work I don't know of any other way to fix GPS.
It sounds like the GPS receiver is working if it shows satelites, it just needs to download the catalog. You might try going outside and running some GPS software for an hour and getting a good download. Or you should be able to download a program like GPSstatus. then go to menu, tools, manage a-gps. From there do a RESET, then a DOWNLOAD. Then go outside for a while and you should start seeing fixes on satellites.
I like worwig's suggestion. I'm not familiar with GPS fixes, so it's great if what he said will work. Reprovisioning tends to fix anything related to radio problems (if IMEI was never lost)

Tried this. Problem still persists. Can't get lock in Maps unless I let it go for over a minute. If I use GPS Test or GPS Status, it IMMEDIATELY reports 27 satellites in view, but shows connected to 0 for a good 20~30 seconds, then slowly starts to connect to one at a time.
Again, fully stock, non-rooted, locked bootloader.
try this in the Market:

This is the ONLY app I have not tried on the market and I finally got a working gps on my S3 with Synergy Rom & Unlocked bootloader (of course) ... So thank you for the mention of the app!
Thanks to everyone who's tried to help. I've tried everything here except for a factory reset which was my last resort. So far nothing has worked. The first time I did the GPS Test thing, it worked, but then 5 minutes later when I went to use maps, it wasn't working again. I tried the other app - GPSfix as well - nothing. Also spent an hour on the phone with a Verizon Tech trouble shooting - not that I thought they'd know more than I could find on my own here, but figured it was worth a try.
I'll be factory resetting in a week or so (don't wanna do it now cause I don't have time to reset up everything on my phone right now). When I do I'll report back. Also I did find over on droidforums that there are several people who've had this exact same issue with their S3 - GPS worked fine then suddenly didn't work at all. So it may be a bigger glitch that's triggered somehow in some phones. All I know is I need my gps working and reliable on my phone...
If anyone else has had this issue and figured it out, let us know. Otherwise, I'll report back after the factory reset...

Hollywood,
Just out of curiosity, were you ever running Synergy?
With my situation, it took three calls to VZW, and an hour-long phone call to Samsung (which resolved nothing) to get a new phone shipped to me. The only good thing that came from the Samsung phone call was that I used it as ammunition when calling VZW the last time ("Look, I was even on the phone with Samsung tech support for an hour today, and they couldn't help me."). The Samsung rep had never even heard of the term "GPS Lock" and didn't understand the concept. She was totally convinced that if the blue arrow came up in Google Maps, that my GPS was working as it should, despite the still-flashing GPS icon and the "Searching for GPS" message in the pull-down screen. Also, she didn't think it was a problem that my positional accuracy never got closer than 3,400 meters.
A complete factory reset didn't help me; I even used Odin to reload stock, non-rooted, locked bootloader OTA ROM with original kernels, recovery, radios, etc.
I also tried the re provisioning dialer code, which didn't help.
I tried the GPS Fix program, GPS Test, GPS Status, and everything else I thought looked promising. Nothing helped.
GPS Fix helped after initial lock, but only while it kept GPS control. Once it released "fix", Maps would go back to having the same problem getting a lock after a while.
Good luck!
Search for the agps patch. Any forum will work. It works on all android. I just flashed it and I'm running beans. It also works for like cm. I used the 3.1 cwm flashable patch. It locks gos on instantly.

GPS Issues
So now that I have my new SGS3 on the way (should be here in two days) my GPS starts working again out of the blue. No changes to my phone, no new apps. Too weird that after three weeks of it not working right, it suddenly works perfectly again.
At least the issue shouldn't repeat once the completely new phone arrives.

My phone is doing something very similar, it's finding various satellites and finding a fix on 3 of them. Although, in Google Maps and Navigation, it will stay stuck on searching for GPS. This phone has been great since day 1 including GPS, strange that it will stop working just like that. I tried clearing data for Maps, running other GPS utilities, and a factory reset to no avail.
Decided to phone Verizion, and they will send me another S3 (refurb).. Hoping the new one works as it should.

Lollipop gps issue with Google maps

I posted this in the forum for the ROM I was using with no response so hopefully I can get one here. I'm currently running candy 5 with stock kernel and gapps.
Ok, let me start by saying I don't think my issue is rom specific as I've seen this behavior on all cm 12 roms. So if I need to send this to Q&A I'd be happy to so.
So I use the app gps status which places a satellite icon on the top left of my status bar when gps (true gps sensor) is in use. Via gps status I get a lock in under 5seconds. Now my issue is this. When I open Google maps, the location indicator comes up but NOT the satellite symbol. In Google maps, it finds my cell tower but NOT my actual location. I let the phone sit for 10 minutes and it never locked. Now when I enter a different address in the search bar and start to navigate, the satellite logo shows up and I have a lock on my starting spot within seconds.
So I decided to try waze just to see if the satellite icon shows up and sure enough it does and gps lock is within seconds. Again you need the app GPS Status and the setting that puts the satellite symbol in the status bar when actual gps sensor is in use.
I tested this with the nexus 10 also on stock rooted lollipop and both the location and satellite symbol appear. I've attached a screen from the GPS status app as well as Google maps so you can see the status bar symbols I'm referring to. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to validate what I'm saying. This time I also installed the app cool too since it shows how man satellites are connected.
Again I want to reiterate gps locks fine when in use, and navigation works just fine as well.... It's just on the main screen of Google maps and only with Google maps that I'm having the issue.
I am so frustrated with this same exact issue! Any other map app find me in seconds. Google maps doesn't find me at all.
Tried faster gps app fix - no change
Uninstall Google maps using TiBU then reinstall - no change
Currently on temasek bacon ROM v 2.0

Exact same problem.
I've tried :
-changing rom (tested 4 lollipop roms) with clean flash
-changing gapps package
-uninstalling maps and reinstalling, cleaning datas
-changing permissions of other apps and allow location only for maps, play services and location services
-changing gps.conf parameters in every possible ways.
For now, with no success.
Gps Status will lock in 3-4sec, but maps won't find my location using gps-only mode. If I switch from GPS status to Maps, it gets the right location for a few seconds.
Anyone has ideas ?
Btw : Gps status won't stay in notification bar when using google maps
---------- Post added at 03:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:48 PM ----------
Reverted back to version 6.14 from this thread
You will have to uninstall the newer google maps before installing this version. Use TiBu, or, if it doesn't work, use system app mover to convert it to a normal app, reboot, uninstall it and install the 6.14 version.
With the old version, everything is working properly ! Still looking for a fix for the new version
@thryy pretty much similar steps as mine and I still have the issue. I will try your method of going to older maps version also later on
Sent From Bacon
Could people using cm12 confirm this bug ?
Do you get location on Google maps using gps only ?
Btw : maps 6.14 working great. I May stick with this one
I've had the same issue on every Lollipop ROM, Kernel, and gapps package like everyone else. If I set location to Device Only mode, Maps is completely useless and never gets a lock. If I put it in high accuracy, it gets close by cell tower but not spot on, and its slow and inaccurate while driving. So far, GPS Status seems to help as it autostarts when GPS is requested by other apps, including Google Maps. Once this happens, it gets a lock within seconds.
Seems to be a bug with Google Maps.
Well glad to know I'm not alone...
Anyone on lollipop try the new maps app called "here" it's in beta and actually pretty good. I might give it a try tomorrow to see if gps works with that app. I went back to 44s where everything works but I miss the hell out of 5.0 lol.
Similar problem with Resurrection Remix v5.2.1 (Android 5.0.1), on a Verizon LG G3 (vs985). However, I do not get any GPS signal at all in any app, including GPS Status. This seems to be a widespread problem, anyone come up with a work-around yet? I love Lollipop's UI, but this bug is crippling.
Nokia Here confirmed working. Nice app, I use this instead of gmaps now
Also, old gmaps (see my previous post on this thread) working fine.
However, I would appreciate to know what is causing this strange bug. Could someone ask a dev ? I don't have enough posts to publish in dev section.
Does anyone know if this has been resolved? Will probably give LP another try during the holiday while I'm home and can restore quickly.
Logic
I flashed temasek cm12 unofficial 3.2 and no longer have this issue with newest maps update its version 9.2.0 now

Just tried it on my One+ and it's working perfectly. Granted, I know this thread is mainly aimed at CM12, however it could be a LP thing so I wanted to share my experience.
I'm running:
fusionjack's SlimSaber LP build from 2014-12-20 (new one out tonight, haven't flashed yet)
Stock kernel in fusionjack's ROM
TKruzze's PA GApps from 2014-12-18. Full package, just using a "gapps-config.txt" to omit what I don't want.
As you can see, I'm using GPS Status and it fired up immediately when I launched Google Maps. In Google Maps, I get a lock on my location almost instantly. GPS Status gets a fix within 2-3 seconds every time, and sometimes it's locked so quickly there's no display of the time to fix.
Will try that combo today! Ty
Confirmed the slimsaber rom is working as it should. I'll give this a try for a while! Ty @clintb

What ROM were you on initially when you had the problem?
I was on temasek cm12 v2.0 when I had the problem as I said earlier in the thread, but now using same ROM but v 3.3 (used v 3.2 also) I don't have the problem. GPS locks in Google maps almost instantly now.
So either cm12 had the problem fixed, or an update in Google maps fixed it. I did notice Google maps had an update when I came back from holidays. Since other apps were OK in the same ROM v 2.0, I'm thinking it was a Google maps problem that got fixed.
Good to hear that ROM also works, maybe I'll install that to play with as another ROM in multirom if it allows it to install as a secondary ROM.
Cheers

Try calibrating your GPS. I had similar issue. Got solved after calibrating. Check you GPS signal using GPS test app.
Not sure if you found a fix but I'm having the same problem.
Used it first today and as I drove down my street I realised my GPS thought I was facing the opposite way and it wasn't moving at all on the screen.
I kept driving because I knew half of where I was going and about 5 minutes later it changed but was showing me still in my street.
It's like it's lagging but when I quit out and hit the find my location button. It found my location?
GPS on and off
I have model SM-G930W8.
Android 6.0.1
Baseband version G930W8VLU2API1
Kernel version 3.18.14-9105000
I had this issue earlier this year. It's any app that uses GPS (Google Maps, Strava etc.). Took it to a Samsung auth repair center. The tech mentioned that this can happen when doing OTA software updates so he basically wiped the phone and re-set up through his computer that he said had the updated software. It worked for a few months but now I'm having the same problem again.
GPS won't lock. I downloaded GPS TEST app and it cannot fix the location of my phone. I've tried resetting the phone, calibrating the gps sensor and none of them fix the problem. Tried pretty much all the workarounds I can find on the internet and nothing works.
I'd hate to have to keep bringing it to a service center for a proper wipe every few months.
Anyone with any thoughts?
