Problem is when i download the sappimg.nbh file and try to downgrade from 1.6 (donut) to 1.5(cupcake) i get an error message "main version older update failed!". i did a little research and found out that the newer mytouch 3g's that have 1.6 (donut) out the box have been patched so you cant downgrade. I also read that the only way to root the mytouch now is to use a method called the gold card method. Can anyone explain this method because it seems really complicated. Or does anyone know of an easier way to downgrade to 1.5 or to root mytouch 3g.

Hi all
I recently tried to root my UK Vodafone Magic that was running 1.6 using relentlesses software tool. I ballsed it up and had to do a factory reset to get my phone working again.
Since the reset I am back to 1.5 and my build has changed to CRB17. Im just trying to get it back to 1.6 (Ive tried to root again but had problems with usb drivers) and I know ther is an OTA update to 1.6 that tries to install, but it doesnt work and Ive read it might be something to do with the build number.
Can anyone help? Can I try to root again and go from there, or is an upgrade available anywhere?

Just to update - I managed to sort this by getting the USB drivers (by doing a search here ) and then rerunning relentless..

I might just be an idiot LOL. It looks like if I downgraded to 2.1 and ran unrevoked forever, I should have S-OFF which means my NAND is unlocked already?
This means I should be able to just download a kernel compatible with 2.2 and flash that correct?

You are 100% correct, the UnRevoked team has not created a exploit for a stock 2.2 froyo EVO, so the link shows you how to downgrade your EVO to 2.1, root and nand-unlock it, then upgrade to 2.2. BE ADVISED, his step-by-step procedure is not quite step-by-step. You can do it, just follow his steps EXACTLY, then if you hit an issue, think through it, get through it, right.

How to tell if you have NAND-S OFF or NAND is unlocked, known as FULL ROOT access.
** after you perform the root/procedures in the previous post/thread.
Power Off Your phone/Press and hold <Sound Down Button> then hit the power button. You should see at the top, something like this:

I have a rooted MyTouch 3g. I had to use the gold card method, as my MyTouch 3g came pre-installed with Android 1.6 (it was a warranty replacement). I am currently running a Cyanogen mod froyo version of Android. While it works reasonably well, this version is a bit unstable and sluggish.
I want to downgrade to 1.6 and then receive the official update, and then wait for root to come to this version of Android.
I have seen several posts about returning Android to cupcake, which was the version that originally came with the MyTouch, but I am concerned that if I use this method, it will not work, as I believe there is an identifier in the hardware that will make the 1.5 version unload-able onto my particular device.
Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Im new to this all this, i purchased a HTC Legend about 6 months ago and happy with it but at times it can lag so wanted to root it and put a different ROM on it, for about 2 weeks almost every night i have tried to root my phone but cannot do it!!!

I have downloaded the ADB files and various other files and loaded up cmd and and followed all instructions from various websites that said they work for my phone, im sure i have created a successful goldcard, i have used x2 2gb sandisk microsd cards and x1 6gb sandisk and also my 8gb sandisk and for some reason im still stuck on downgrading, i have followed a few sites on goldcards but all dont work for me, i can temp root and get permission rights on cmd but then run RUU and i get a 131 error which what ive read is something to do with the goldcard, is this my issue or is my phone one of the ones that cant be rooted if someone could reply to my post asap please i would be really happy .

also is there a file out there that i can put on the sd card and boot it in recovery mode, seen one on another site for the nexus one, all i want to do is load CM7, whats the easiest way to do this??

i have followed all instructions again and still wont downgrade, im on the RUU and getting a 131 error, according to some forums that error code means i havent created a correct goldcard, i have used goldcard tool and also followed theunlocker website and used hexeditor and re done the RUU and still no joy, anyone got any ideas to help me please?????
