G1 Root Questions - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I see alot of unanswered questions out there with regards to rooting the G1... as a last resort a new thread.
I have rooted my G1 (or so I thought) and some root apps work and others do not (do not have access) etc. I have followed all the instructions successfully from forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Is there a definitive way of checking that root is applied? Do you have to follow the telnet instructions each time the phone is restarted?
I want to upgrade my g1 back to the latest version 1.6 . All I can find is RC8 modded (UK) which seems to be 1.4 or 1.5? Will I loose root access by upgrading and does someone have a link to a modded RC<latest version> update.zip ? Seems impossible to find anything newer that May last year but I had an update in Nov/Dec 09.
Some forums are saying that you can then store your apps on your SD card but do not have the instructions.. can someone point me in the right direction?
Help on any of the questions would great...
Thanks

Are you asking if someone can take the update, add root and upload it or root it as it is running on the phone? Either way it's super easy.
If you already have root on your phone and you want a flashable version with root built in, go here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
and follow the instructions to install the kitchen, extract the rom, root, and anything else you wanna add and build and flash it.
If you are looking at rooting it on the phone, go here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581869
and follow the instructions.
Either way you should have used that handy "Search This Forum" button in the main threads page.

OK thanks for that.. I'm pretty savvy to the search feature. Been around the block a few times brotha.
I'm pretty sure since you have the answers you would know that I've tried that rooting method with won't work with the Cellcom Hero, the rooting method there you get the wrong bootloader error, the BL on the 1.6 hero is newer than the one you use in that rooting guide... I was unsuccessful in doing it.
And no, this phone/rom/carrier doesn't have root yet.
If it was something sooo easy I certainly would just do it.
What version of hboot does this phone ship with?
Have you tried that guide they linked to lately? That guide has been updated with a new method that should work on phones that shipped with 2.1
oh.. my bad dude. Didn't mean to be so hasty on my comments. We have had a few people posting pointless threads lately here.. This is rather odd though. Give us all the info on what's running on the phone and we can check out what we can do to resolve it.

[Q] Newbie basics... please help.

Hi everyone. I went thru quite some posts but am still unsure because of the many different devices & models (I'm not sure if mine will work or not and I'm scared that I will brick it).
I hope someone can give more general advises like:
1. How do I know if I can root my device or not (be it 2.1 or 2.2 and etc...)?
(eg. a tool/app that we can download and run to get detail version/system info?)
2. How do I know if my device can be upgraded to 2.2 or not?
My device ... http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.47008
All I know is its 2.1. I would like to root it (so I can safely back it up b4 playing around with it) and to install apps in the SD card. Help?
I saw quite some threads on the how-to for the above but am not sure if my device is compatible with the methods. Thanks.

[Q] More and More Confused-Htc HD2 root

Hey guys sorry for this but I have been trying to get android 3.1 installed on my Htc Hd2.
I know there are loads of threads out there on this and I must have read most of them from top to bottom but i am only getting more and more confused.
I have froyo 2.2 installed on my hd2 with a few months which I did via this article
dkszone.net/install-nand-android-rom-htc-hd2
Does it make a difference for me having installed via nand? Im not a computer expert I just love tinkling with my phone and am really afraid that if i keep winging it I will end up bricking it
I have been trying to install by using this guide but i cannot get my phone to root.
androidpolice.com/2010/04/16/complete-guide-how-to-fully-back-up-and-restore-your-android-phone-using-nandroid-backup-and-clockworkmod-rom-manager/#one-time-setup
I have titanum backup downloaded and then it wants me to get busybox but I cannot get SU to work and give it permission.
Please if anyone could just help me get 3.1 installed I'd be very grateful.
I think if i can get it to just root I could get the rest done
P.S my apologies if this is in the wrong section

question about 3.2 root

Hi,
I am new to the android OS and, after seeing netflix still doesn't work after the 3.2 update, I am ready to root my TF.
I think I had read enough before the 3.2 update to root the 3.1, but now with the 3.2 installed, I have a question.
I have been looking at the thread called
"Batch script Pure Root Method for 8.4.4.11 & 8.6.5.6US - v5 beta update"
and am thinking if this is the one I use to root my stock unrooted 3.2 TF to a rooted TF. Is that correct? Oh and do I have to use the v5 or can I use the v4. I just want to make sure before I do something that's not reversible.
Actually I am quite a bit confused, but I think I am slowly getting there..
thanks for any help,
John
8.5.5.6 is the 3.2 update, so if a method says it will work with 8.5.5.6 (and the comments on that thread concur), then that one should work for you. I don't know if you can use the v4 version of the script, but since v5 is available, I would use that.
If you follow the steps carefully, you can be rooted in under 10 minutes with no skills other than being able to read and operate a mouse required. Then once you are rooted, you can learn as much or as little about the android OS as you want.

Hi,
Thanks, Yes someone answered my question in that thread after I had read through it. I think what was throwing me off was the date the thread was created (which was before the 3.2 update) I guess the thread was updated.
I read through some older threads where commands were entered through the DOS prompt and I took a look at the bat file. I guess I just like to know what is going on incase there is a problem. Still seeing the problems, others have had, which I guess most are from missing drivers, etc...
Thanks for the help, I will let you know what happens when I get the nerve to try this
Oh, I didnt see anything about it in the thread, instructions or FAQ in the batch file. do you know if I need a sd card in it for that method?
thanks again
John
Hi,
I am wanting to root my TF but I am still not exactly sure, I am looking at the thread/method
Batch script Pure Root Method for 8.4.4.11 & 8.6.5.6 US and TW - v5 beta2 update
here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
the thing is, the faq (instructions) in the bat file for v5 havent been updated (or I totally do not understand what I am doing) some of the menu options have changed there number, etc...
One question I have is, do I want to back up my current boot and recovery image before I flash root? in the bat, flash root is steps 1 and 2 where back up current boot.img and recovery.img is step 3. then 4 and 5 are to flash the stock images but there are 2 versions in this method (8.4.4.11 & 8.6.5.6) so I am not sure which gets restored (I will leave that part alone.
If anyone knows, or has used this to root a stock unrooted 3.2 tf please help if you can.
thanks,
John
I used this guide to root my stock non-root tf 3.2, it was really very easy:

Little help with rooting Kyocera Torque E6710, please.

Yes indeed, I'm an Android n00b, but not a total n00b. Sincere apologies if this has already been addressed/solved. I've been lurking around these forums for a couple of weeks now (and read all the recommended threads and joined obviously) and haven't been able to find a solution. Kingoroot seemed to work (both pc and android), but only upgraded to 4.1 jellybean. The minimum required is 4.4 so essential apps can be installed. At this point, just knowing whether or not it's possible would be great.
My search actually started two months ago when I picked up this phone. Extensive searches have yielded results, but most have been non-functional like this site...
https://koselas.com/how-to-install-custom-rom-on-kyocera-torque-e6710/
and the ones found on the forums here just didn't work or the question was never answered. (here for example...https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/kyocera-torque-e6710-unlock-t3241129).
Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you who even bother to read this and have a great day.

Howdy, I found the method which worked for me toward the end of this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204320&page=60

I don't recall if FR 1.60 or 1.90 will work, but ONLY one of those two will work. You need to reboot immediately after trying and then install SuperSU from the Play store, as Framaroot will NOT install SuperSU as it says it will.
After you install & opened SuperSU to update binary, follow my instructions I posted in the link to get hotspot working. Make sure you choose grant all w/o notification in SuperSU because it will NOT pop up giving you the option to grant root access request.
It works for sure. If you are having trouble, try a hard reset prior to rooting.
It should also be noted there is no stock ROM to flash if you screw up, so make sure you backup the files you remove from /system should you choose to uninstall bloatware.
Beyond that, it must be user error. I have rooted 7 Torques on various firmwares, including 3.000sp with no difficulty other than trying to figure out which version of FR works.

I used Framaroot version 1.9.0 on my Kyocera Torque E6710 running Android 4.1.2 (stock), Software version 3.000SP.
Framaroot version 1.9.3 didn't work for me.
LMK if this method works for you
@VinGrif...
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer this question. At the moment, I've got a large backlog of work and other projects so, it may be another week or two before there's time to do this. Once completed, I will update on the success (and which worked). Just wanted you to know that your answer was appreciated, but I'm swamped for the holidays. Thanks again!
