Hi everyone. Great site keep it up.
I just bought a HTC S710 and I need a couple of pointers.
First of all I've got a problem which I hope you can solve for me. Whenever my phone is off and I try to turn it on, it reaches the startup screen where it says "windows mobile" and then it shuts down. The only way for my phone to reach the home page and not shut down is:
1. If the sim card is not in. (Phone boots up reaches the home page and everything is functional)
2. Or if it is plugged in the charger/USB cable, sim card/no sim card.
Another small issue I have is that sometimes it shuts down automatically, which is inconvenient.
I would appreciate if you could help me with this problem
hi, i dont know if this would be a fix or if you would be willing to do it but if you install a custom rom then it could fix the problem and make your phone way better to use aswell. I'm using fireburned's 6.5 rom and its great, would recommend it. good luck with fixing it!
Yeah I am wanting to install a cooked ROM, but I have a kind of problem. I'm running linux and I can't seem to find a program to install the ROMs through linux. Got any ideas
sorry i dont know, i dont really know much about this i just did it with my phone and hoped it would work, so im lucky i didnt brick it to be honest. was it the SDA unlock which didnt work or the uspl?
no no no. its the programs. They are written to work on Windows systems. I'm running Ubuntu and I can't find these programs for my OS
Use a Windows PC to do USPL, after that you can always flash from SD-Card.
I'll go by a friends house later on to use his computer to install the USPL.
This "glitch" though is really weird, I tried to see if my phone would start up if I had the hands free plugged in, and it did start up. . So as long as something is plugged into the USB the phone will start up with the sim in. If nothing is plugged in, it won't

can someone please help me figure out what the deal is with my phone, it's been working great minus the fact it wont work with activesycn anymore, but today i was at my friends using wifi and surfing the net and using Remote Desktop and it locked up, i rebooted it with the reset button and it sits at the Windows Mobile splash screen, for 45+mins, i havent waiting longer than that, i noticed if i pull the battery, sim, SD out and let it sit, put it all back together, press all the buttons, turn it back on and press buttons while is coming on, itll come on, dont know why i have to press stuff lol but its working, and its done this twice, if my activesync worked i'd re-flash it but this rom hasnt been too bad for me, it's one of the earlier Faria releases of wm6. anyone know what would cause it to freeze up during boot and work Sometimes? or a way to make it boot up for sure w/o doing a hard reset.
i noticed it will boot up if i press some buttons during the first/second splash screen, the HTC one and the one with the version numbers, if the keyboard lights up i know its gunna boot successfully. this is crazy. and annoying.
You might try flashing with Shelltool. I'e never done that but it seems to work.
Have you tried to do a hard reset on it? No flash is required. Also for ActiveSync, go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC and uncheck (or check) the box there and see if ActiveSync starts working for you.
And you can always flash directly to the bootloader (no activesync required) if thats what you want to do. Just turn off the phone, then hold the camera button and turn the phone back on. As long as you see USB above the left softkey you are good to go for flashing a different rom onto your phone. I would strongly suggest if you do this to flash back to an official ROM first (T-Mobile 2.26 is a good one to use) and then flash a custom rom of your choice.
No idea why this would have started, but my guess is something you have recently added has a conflict on your phone. You might want to go to remove programs and remove the last couple of things. Then grab a trial copy of MemMaid and run that to clean up bad registry entries and such. See if the problem goes away.
Good luck!
Ah.. See, I want to flash really bad and try something with the new HTC Touch on it, there are so many roms lol, i don't even know where i saved the file for the one im using now.. but the only problem is, i cannot get the damn thing to sync with activesync, i've tried reinstalling it and unchecking the other box on the phone, no go. i'm sure there is no other way to back everything up is there? :-( i'll try memmaid too just incase that can fix the registry. any specific rom you recommend with HTC Touch ? i text A LOT with my phone so i'm mainly only worried about texting and taking pictures, but i've got the UK rom to install, i heard that is better than my current one.

I don't care for the Touch stuff (I assume you are talking the Cube), so I really can't comment on that. You'll have to try that yourself.
Use PIM Backup to backup your SMS, MMS, Calendar, contacts and more to your SD card. You could install it by downloading it directly to your phone (its just a zip file with the exe that you run).
As I said, you can upgrade without activesync. Just go to the bootloader as I described.
damn I'm pissed. I was messing around with my phone as usual, setting up pRSSreader and updating all the feeds/channels. I had the phone plugged into my PC because it gives me a faster connection. My connection went out however, and pRSSreader gave me an error. No big deal... so I tell it to update all channels again, and it freezes. I soft-reset the phone twice and it doesn't get past the 3rd boot screen (for me, the blue WM6 screen from mfrazzz's XM6r3 ROM which I'm currently using). Damn. hard reset was the only thing I could think to do.
What would you guys suggest I do incase it happens again?
I sure am getting better at having a list of programs to execute on a fresh install
First you need to figure out if its something that you installed to cause this to happen. There are programs that don't play well with WM6 (but those seem few and far between). Make a list of everything you install on top of the custom rom. If it happens again, you may want to give this a try (but I wouldn't use it until you have the issue again, so you know its something you have added and not this program itself ):
http://www.airscanner.com/blog/blog.php
Its an alpha product (and I've never used it) but supposed to give you a SafeMode (like XP) so you can get back into your phone if software / regchanges go bad on you. SPB has similar, but I haven't used that (and not sure it works on WM6).
Unfortunately, if you are stuck in the 3rd splash screen there isn't much else you can do. You can try pulling your SD card and rebooting to see if that might fix the issue. Also don't be plugged into the USB cable when you reboot (I've seen programs like BatteryStatus hang on restart in the past if you are hooked to USB). Speaking of BatteryStatus, if you are overclocking (or using CPUscalar) try turning that off to see if the problem goes away.
Good luck, and let us know what you find...
Hey guys,
I'm having troubles recently with my Wizard. I am running TNT.19199 Rom. First of all, seems tyhe touch sensors on the phone don't seem to respond as quickly anymore.
1- Also, sometimes, the volume on the phone goes dead. Which means I cannot hear the ringers and when I press the buttons. Although I can hear the conversation. At this point, I have to restart the phone to get it to work.
2- I've been having problems with bluetooth lately. Is there some sort of patch to remedey that problem?
3- Sometimes people cannot hear me clearly on the other end of the conversation...
4- I'm still trying to find the programm that turns my SD card into a virtual Hard drive for the phone. I know you guys are telling it doesn't exist but I'm not making up what I saw back in January. Maybe it has to do with a prgram called Ramldr. Anyone know how it works? Much appreciated.
Thanks guys!
Phil
heads up???
Hey guys,
I'd really appreciate a little heads up on the problems I'm having....
Thanks,
Phil
most of your glitches may be solved by a rom change. try flashing a different rom. try some other rom.
the program you may be looking for is "WM5torage". this program will turn your phone's card into a virtual flash drive on the computer. run it, and connect the phone to the pc via usb.
unless you are lookig for ramdisk which turns part of your ram into a hard drive (not very usefull as these phones dont have enough ram as is.
Bluetooth issues: just about all of the 6.1s have these issues. look for a rom that has the least ammount of bluetooth "extras" as possible.
TOUCH: touch scroling is available on just about every rom these days. most people have different sensitivity settings. you can change these settings in the registry. search the wiki.
LAST AND MOST IMPORTANT:
since your issues relate to a specific rom, keep the complaints on that thread. If you can't get help there then flash a different rom. there is a new TNT rom out here, try that one. or the slim 6.1 or any other rom that has good reviews. read the whole tread before flashing so that you can make an inteligent descision about flashing the thing or not. (I hope I don't come off rude, just trying to be helpfull)

About the Drive...
Thanks SVI,
But you're missing my point. I'm not looking for my ram to become hard disk space, nor am I looking to turn my phone into an external HD for my computer. I'm looking to turn my SD card into Internal HD! 4 months now and I'm still certain there is a way. Back in January when I had gotten this phone, I saw a program capable in doing that.
This is no longer a search but has turned into a quest for all those that doubt this even exists...
Anyways, I'll be looking into a rom change at this point. But I've grown really fond of tnt.19199 since it's been the most reliable rom to date!

A little more...
Okay, I'm 1 step closer...
Not totally there, but I found this info for Nokia phones. I suppose it's for symbian OS.
What this dioes is boot from MMC card which in turn gives you the liberty to load as much stuff as you want on the phone. The MMC card acts as the internal memory and not just storage card.
http://maemo.org/community/wiki/howto_easily_boot_from_mmc_card/
By the way, I read up on WM5torage. Is it possible to tweak this prgram to work in favor of the pda instead of the computer?? What if the pda read the sd card as internal memory instead of the computer attached???
Just an idea...

Hi,
My girlfriend recently bought an XDA Orbit 2 which has WM 6.5 install on it.
Everything else on the phone works perfectly and without issue but she is unable to make phone calls correctly;
The phone will be able to dial out and establish a connection but no sound can be heard by either party even though both phones say the connection is there.
This can be resolved by a hard reset, however this only last for about 10-20 minutes before we lose all sound once again.
Can anyone shed some light onto this for me?
One thing that always screws up phone calls is the radio on the phone it should be a 1.59.xx.xx to check it go to start => setting => system => Phone Information => Software Information. Will find it there also while you are there what 6.5 rom is she running on it as if its not a stable one it may be worth updating it...
Should the .xx.xx be anything in particular or just stay as .xx.xx?
anything in particular i use the stock one (with the default rom) which is .42.15 any should do the job though...
Ok the radio on it is 1.58.25.14 which im asuming is wrong. How do I change it?
This a custom flash thingy ma bob wont hard reset the phone when you flash it => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376119
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426203
Is the radio i am using and imo the best for signal/ battery life.
How to do it.
1.Download both
2. Put the nbh file in the same directory as the custom ruu
3. Put the phone into bootloader (Start + OK + Reset whole on bottom, hold the buttons until it show a red green white blue screen)
4. plug it in to computer (let the drivers fully install)
5. Start up the Polaris_Custom_ruu.exe
6. Follow the instructions, shouldnt take too long to go through and flash
7. it will reset and you will have a nice shiny new radio and hopefully no more call problems.
All i will say now is what an idiot for selling the phone in that state... (may actually be the reason it was sold lol)
Im going to sound ike a total idiot now but I have no idea what ruu is or nbh or where to put it or what a bootloader is.
Could you possibly put it in moron speech Chris?
LOL well honestly i thought that i had already done that....
Have a look at the files that you download and then it will be explained.
The RUU is the thing that will do the flashing to the device
The nbh files contains the information of you download the stuff and follow the instructions you will have the result that you want honestly i cant think of a simpler way of doing it
Ive also put 2 screenshots to try to help you (one has a different radio but you get the idea...)
Also give this a read but i feel it may confuse you more..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381600
Its a noobs guide to flashing and has all of the info that you need to have.
It does give one point that it has to have SPL-2.20.Olinex on the screen but i would guess this is there as you already have 6.5 on the phone.
Awesome, thanks chris I will get it done tonight after work and let you know how it goes, if it fails I have no doubt I will be back complaining about my lack of phone savvy.
Hey Chris, just to let you know that it worked perfectly, thank you for your help it was much appricated.
No worries glad that it worked as if it didnt then i would be out of ideas...
I'm going through this problem for almost 4 weeks, just when I was away of a computer by 1 mile..
I was getting problems to connect to internet with my PDA, and nothing worked.
Then some apps stopped working (like Messenger, Internet Explorer, and such included apps) and I decided to format my phone by using the HardSPL method. Installed everything again, and then everything was working fine.
After a few days, the buttons stopped working: Couldn't answer calls, or use D-Pad, couldn't get off standby mode and so on. Every time I needed to use my phone, I got to hardreset the PDA, wait it to power on, and use it. It was VERY annoying. So, formatted again and installed a new ROM. Everything worked fine and after a few days, again.. Couldn't get off standby mode.
I read somewhere that it happens when the SD card becomes faulty. It was. I formatted the SD and copied all the contents again. Formatted again the phone, and installed everything again. After a few minutes (yes, minutes), the phone wasn't responding again. I got to plug the headphones and press the HF key and sometimes it got back from standby.
When phone is kind of.. "null", I can't receive calls. SMS are rejected. But the power, Bluetooth and Wifi light keeps blinking as it was active.
I'm using a temporary phone right now. I can't handle it anymore. But I miss my PDA :S
A bit more info: I'm using Spanish NiAX WM6.5.3 ROM. And first ROM was Spanish NiAX WM6.5.1. Maybe it's a ROM fault. I don't know :S
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance..
PS: Read some other threads about this. Switched 3G/2G, changed SIMCARD and SDCard and still not working
EDIT
The problem is my Polaris has a couple bad blocks on its NAND.
In traditional english: The support of the OS (AKA Windows Mobile, or Android, for example) is damaged, so in certain points the data written becomes inaccessible or has trash data. That's the reason the phone doesn't wake up.
I can happen too if you have a faulty SDCard. The point is: Some data couldn't be read.
Currently I'm researching about how to live with this. There's nothing to do with Windows Mobile as far as I know, but we can make it work by using some custom set-up of Android.
I'll let you all know if I get some news, or see HERE where I'll post everything I find
Regards!
Bump!
Please, I'm travelling this week and my temporary phone now is broken, too...

That could be your problem(corrupted files) Check for viruses too(Not too careful)
Thanks A LOT for your answer.
I think that can't be the problem, since I formatted the SD card and put all the fresh content again (music an cabs from my home PC).
I found out that a new fresh installed rom works fine, until I install any cab.
The cabs I have, are stored on SDcard and installed to Phone Memory.
Maybe CABS are faulty. Or it's not recommendend to install from the SDCard.
I'll try installing the new rom again, and Installing all cabs from Activesync.
I'll publish any news.
Thanks!
Still not working.
I read somewhere that this is caused by SRS WOW with Security off patch.
tomorrow I'll reinstall the rom again, and all the software without that cab.
Worked fine for 3 minutes, SDCard wasn't plugged and failed once installed Simcard.
What comes into my mind, try downgrading everything to official HTC ROM, by everything i mean also radio(unplug sdcard and simcard when flashing)
Then check if it works, if not maybe there's hardware fault.
Try different simcard too.
What software are you using?
I suggest you follow pcarvalhos or alexander-voigt instructions on how to flash (basically you have to flash official wm6.1 before flashing a ROM if you observe stability issues) and then flash pcarvalho, alexander voigt (or mines). It should work if you follow the instructions exactly. Then try again Niax' rom
Post #1 updated about the reason of this.
Regards!
