Extract files programs from rom. - General Questions and Answers

I'm trying to pull out some programs out of the stock bell rom for my Vogue. I've pulled the NBH, and extracted out nb files from it but I can't seem to find any info on what's next, or if what I was doing is even right. I've been googling all day and not finding any real answers.

Customise "chef friendly" ROM?

I apologise up front if this has been answered elsewhere, but I have searched high and low without any luck...
A number of ROMs are so-called "chef friendly" ROMs, i.e. they can supposedly be extracted with the .dsm and .rgu files intact, packages neatly in folders, etc.
I would like to customise one of these for myself, but I'm not having any luck.
I am using Alex's kitchen to extract the ROM, and I've tried these methods:
1. ruu_signed.nbh in the BaseROM folder, option 'a' on the Extraction menu.
2. Cooked ruu_signed.nbh in the BaseROM folder, and dumped part01.raw and part02.raw from the cooked ROM, using option 'b' on the Extraction menu.
3. Shipped ruu_signed.nbh in the BaseROM folder, and dumped part01.raw and part02.raw from the cooked ROM, using option 'b' on the Extraction menu.
I manage to get OEM, ROM and SYS folders which look fine. Initially I am just trying to recook these using the kitchen, with no changes. I am including the splash from the cooked ROM as well, but my NBH is about 3MB smaller than the cooked NBH I extracted from. There are no errors in the build process, flash works 100%, but the phone refuses to boot fully, it just gets stuck at the splash screen with the RGD numbers.
I have read the dumping and reconstructing threads, but obviously I am missing something important, I just cannot see what it is.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Please identify the ROM you are trying to extract so we can help.
I am trying this using gullum's TF2D II.
I can't find it now, but I definitely saw gullum state in a previous thread that all his ROMs are chef friendly, so I just chose that ROM because of that. Ultimately though, I'm not particularly fussed which ROM I use for this, it's just for my own use.
I know for sure that mine works because I do that a lot since the initflashfiles.dat changes after cooking the ROM, and I could try out gullum's for you. If you want I can put the folders in a RAR file and upload them for you . Oh and whenever I was cooking and my phone didn't boot the culprit was a registry error with opera, just in case you want to know.

Click to collapse
That would be awesome. Or you could just let me know what additional steps I am missing. I don't mind getting my hands dirty, I'm just a bit stumped, being relatively new to all this.
no what you are doing sounds right. I'm not sure what the problem is. I will just re-cook the ROM to make sure it works and then put up the folders. I'm about to go on vacation though so expect it mabye by Mon. or I may do it on vacation since I have an unlimited data plan for my phone and I am bringing my laptop
Not to worry, for some reason it's working now. I have already ripped out a few bits that I don't want and added a few that I do want, and so far my phone has been stable for about 4 hours.
Thanks for the offer anyway.
you do NOT need to rebuild the Part01 and Part02 raw files. All you need to do is set the .nbh as your base

nuePower/nueBattery

ok im kind of a newb still when it comes to HTC/wm and i've search around and cant find the answer.... anyways i've been tryin to find out how to install these for my HTC TD2
the link to it is - http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/page/nuePowernueBattery.aspx
any help would be appreciated tyvm XD
It seems to me that file inside archive should be renamed to battdrvr.dll and placed into Windows folder replacing original one. But I don’t want to experiment with my device.
that cant be the only thing i have to do right?
It’s pretty weird to make something then have no installation instructions because I have no idea how to install it correctly >.<
It says on the site that there are 2 one for CDMA and one for GSM phones so I downloaded the GSM one since my provider is rogers = GSM/3G which came with a dll but is that all I need for the 1% increment and the FastCharge mode? Do I need to install the nuePowerCPL? And I tried installing the cab but nothing appeared so I downloaded the OEM package and dragged it into program files but that didn’t do anything either so I’m very confused.
anyone?
You have to put .dll in windows directory (and to be sure in app's directory) and install CPL (cab version, OEM is for ROM cooks).
theres also a batt dll in that folder i forgot the name but its not the same as the nuebattery one do i replace that one with the nuebattery dll or just copy it in?

extract NBH from EXE

Hello,
I want to (re)flash WM6.1 from microSD, but can´t find a nbh. Flashing in softmode will hang up and freezing my screen on the tricolour.
Extracting from RUU_Kaiser_HTC_GER_3.28.407.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.zip
will create an exe-File.
Any chance to get out a kaiserimg.nbh from the exe or any link to a german WM6.1 Rom /NBH?
Regards
Check the Kaiser Wiki instead of starting a new thread. There're repositories for many versions of OEM ROM.
Of cause I´ve done this before. But the german ROMs I´m looking for will be extracted as exe-files, I couldn´t find the necessary hints.
Try open the exe using Winzip. You might see the NBH there.
Edit: I tried running the Kaiser_HTC_ASIA_HK_WWE_3.34.721.2.exe I have, it installs there should be folder containing RUU_Signed.nbh (your temp file folder?). Use this file, rename as KAISIMG.nbh and flash using SD method.
Get Uniextract, then right-click on this installshield wizard and select "Uniextract to subdir" .
Uniextract can do thousands of formats. It's nice program lol.

[REQ] Telstra Froyo RUU Decompile

Hey guys, I'm trying to tinker with the recently-released Telstra-Branded Froyo ROM so I can check on some of the data inside and modify T-Mod to suit, but I've come across two very strange problems:
1: Extracting the update form the RUU gives me naught but a .img file which I have no clue how to open (I know it's a filesystem image, but I haven't been able to find tools to open it)
2: The OTA version of the update, while easily viewable, seems to use a .p file based patching system that I have never seen before.
If anyone can help me with these two problems by providing me with either the tools to decompile the RUU into something I can actually look at, such as tools for android's .img filesystem format, or a decrypted version of this ROM, it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found a copy of unYAFFS, figured it all out. just had to figure out what the filesystem on the RUU was.
Edit: I see you found it..
I know you're sorted now Muskie, but using dsixda's kitchen is also a useful tool.

Run the ruu until the menu comes up, go to your temp folder and copy the rom.zip and whack it in the kitchen.
