extract NBH from EXE - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hello,
I want to (re)flash WM6.1 from microSD, but can´t find a nbh. Flashing in softmode will hang up and freezing my screen on the tricolour.
Extracting from RUU_Kaiser_HTC_GER_3.28.407.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.zip
will create an exe-File.
Any chance to get out a kaiserimg.nbh from the exe or any link to a german WM6.1 Rom /NBH?
Regards

Check the Kaiser Wiki instead of starting a new thread. There're repositories for many versions of OEM ROM.

Of cause I´ve done this before. But the german ROMs I´m looking for will be extracted as exe-files, I couldn´t find the necessary hints.

Try open the exe using Winzip. You might see the NBH there.
Edit: I tried running the Kaiser_HTC_ASIA_HK_WWE_3.34.721.2.exe I have, it installs there should be folder containing RUU_Signed.nbh (your temp file folder?). Use this file, rename as KAISIMG.nbh and flash using SD method.

Get Uniextract, then right-click on this installshield wizard and select "Uniextract to subdir" .
Uniextract can do thousands of formats. It's nice program lol.

ROM Tool that works with Prophet ROM

I have downloaded the smart wm6 ROM for HTC Prophet. I intend to extract files from the rom. I have used prepare_imgfs to split the rom, and this was successful. I then tried to dump the imgfs_raw_data.bin file. I received one or two errors (¨unknown header type, FS_DATA_TABLE?¨). On entering the dump directory, it contains a load of *.dsm files and one *.dll (acmdwrap.dll). I am going about this correctly? How can I dump this rom to extract more files?

have tried it, it only extracts .nbf files not .nba. It comes up with an error when I try.

How to extract cab file from exe ?

hi !
Most of our software are .exe files to be run from a PC and to be installed then on the PPC.
When one wants to perform a HR away from PC, it is then hard to quickly re-install all apps.
Having cab files stored in the SD card is the solution but what to do when no cab files are available only exe ?
My question is then the following : is there a possibility to extract CAB files from .exe files ?
Thx in advance
Hi,
Often the .exe is just a self extracting archive which you can open with winrar
doesn't always work, just right-click on the .exe en choose open with winrar...
also, when you try to install an exe file, the .cab is extracted and moved to you phone, that means you should be able to find the cab somewhere and copy it...
most of the time in \program files\microsoft active sync\(appname)
also, when you install an app, some of them ask you where to install it on your pc, in that directory you can find the cabs you need
now I'm just looking for a program that can make an cab installer that can be run on my phone and installs every cab to SD...
I found one, but it doesn't work... teksoft airwizard 1.1...
Bartus
at times one can also just rename it from .exe to .zip
yes copy from activesync folder is possible but i have the same problem only with this difference. On my working computer i have administrator rights and folder Program files is blocked for me. I need a program to extract cab form exe. WinRar does not work. Sorry for my bad english
well try this: after cab transferred to your device, don't install it (and don't cancel!!) , go to Windows\AppMgr , and see if a folder with the name of that program exists with a cab file in it ...
now I'm just looking for a program that can make an cab installer that can be run on my phone and installs every cab to SD...

try SettingsSaviour ... it has a silent install feature with which you can install many cabs at once, downside is silent isntall can't be used to install programs on SD, you'll have to manually choose Storage Card for each program...
Very comprehensive explanations ... thanks to all of you ! I gonna try and report if any further problems.
--------------------------------------------
After trying to change the extension of the .exe, I have to report that it works with one of the files I wanted to CABized.
To MODO : do I need to stamp this thread as SOLVED ?

What I did to keep installed cab files was I created a new folder in my storage card and named it "CABS", then I did a registry tweak to where the cab file was not deleted after installation. Now whenever I download a cab file, I "save as", CABS folder(from the dropdown box) on my storage card.

Just wants to mention a "universal" unpacker called UniExtract - http://legroom.net/software/uniextract - it can extract many .EXEs made by install tools. Also - check out MSCEInf - which can analyze an CAB-file - http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/msceinf.shtml
Are you able to open a exe file on your device? 90% of the programs I like have exe files and I always get not a valid pocket pc application. I've even tried to rename exe to cab or zip, but doesn't work. The file extension being downloaded is shaded out in the file type box in the download dialog box and cannot be changed. I've tried programs to convert exe files to other extensions, but all they do is convert after the downloaded exe files have already been installed.

thats because they are exe files that are supposed to be run on a normal PC. You download the exe to a PC, then when you have your Phone connected via Activesync, run the exe and it will install on your phone.
Alternativly, use WinRar on your PC to extract the exe, and copy the .cab files to your phone, then open them. (this does not always work, not all exe files are extractable)

My solution is:
1) keep PDA disconnected (no active sync session)
2) install exe as usual and, when standard installation dialog will appear, go on (later cab installation will begin when you'll connect phone to pc)
3) open regedit.exe
4) go to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\AppMgr\Apps
5) there you'll find a list of installable cabs via active sync
6) under each application, the value ListCabFiles is the name of cab file and the value InstallDir is its position of file system.
Remember to uninstall exe after you copy/move the cab file (or delete application key) otherwise installation of cab files will start on next activesync session!!
Simple, do you agree?
yeh... sure i cant use activesync, so i just extract the exes seems easy enough

I have just used uniextract to unpak my Pocket informant, I think this utility will be a life saver for all those files that i can't get as CABS. I have a lot of problems with active sync but can easily transfer to SD card with card reader or WM5Storage.
Thanks you so much
exe programs which use activesync
always get cabs from the install programs
if just renaming the exe to zip don't let you extract the cab file manualy
an installation on a pc without a pda connected to active sync would leave the cab files somewhere so next time the pda is connected the cabs can be transfered
search for *.cab and find the one you're looking for on the computer
Ran the .exe, found the cab, copied it.
Thanks.
Oh and UniExtract looks like a great program so I'll probably be using that next time.
NOT ALL
Not all the apps can run on the SD... thats for sure
but always you can... use setingsaivour BTW you can edit some cabs that arent sign trusted or only read with cab manager and edit the cab to apply the default installation or tell it that you dont want to choose set default main or SD... save it and tadaaaa!
I always do that... change .exe to .rar or .zip see inside extract the cab and copy it to my Cab folder on sd... always edit the sd config... and run the User customization !
this is not only easy, but it works flawlessly,
thanks
why don't you try 7zip for pocket pc? is the best way and quick cuz you ccan estract your cab files right on your ppc
just go to menu and extract, works for executables for windows

1st try at the kitchen, and I can only fry some eggs....

Hi guys....
I've been a member of this comunity for 2 years now, but posted very litle, because I would be mostly spamming, re-interating what others have said, with" wow, this is fast...nice job"...and such..so i only post when I realy have to.
I downloaded the hypercore kitchen, and after some reading of the contained links and txt files, decided to have a go at it...
I would like to target Tomal's v8 but although very fast, it seems to have a significant number of com bugs...So maybe I'll go with v7.7...
I copied the nk.nbf file to the correct directory, and ran the decoder, but it errors on the next step saying that there is no OS.nb file...
Should this file be extrated from the nk.nbf?
Is this a problem with the nk.nbf file I'm using?
I would apreciate some help on this, as I'm looking for a full flavored cake, but to my taste...see I'm "diabetic" so I have to be extremly caution with what I cook...
When you decoding nk.nbf, decode it to OS.nb (change second line) instead nk.nba.
Something else to be aware of with Tomal's ROMs is that he ships all his RGUs in a single RGU.cab file.
You'll need to extract the contents of this file into the dump directory AFTER the imgfstodump and BEFORE the pkgtool step.

Thanks for the quick answers, guys...
Something pop-up as a doubt...can I cook from an usb stick?(installing the kitchen, and workind directly trought the usb stick)???
I'm getting starved.....I can't even turn on the oven...
I have nstaledthekitchen over and ove again.
Changed the settings so it reads "Universal", copied the nk.nbf of my choice to the Extract/source folder, and whent to the Panel/extract and runned "DumpRom"...So far so good....
The DOS windows warns me that the file must be in the correct folder, so I double check....I press return...HTC Extender Rom Tool starts and prmpts me what I want to do and were is the extended rom...I thought it was embeeded in the nk file, but since Tomal provided with and empty extenden Rom, I downloade it and poited to it...Hit decode...
A big window opens with some file paths, so I check them to know were the files are going to...and using the above tip, change the name of the fat file to OS.nb, Hit decode...I'm happy, the window says "Decode sucessfull", so I hit "OK"...
I am agin at the Htc Extended Rom tool, so I hit exit(? done it right ?)...
The Dos window now tells me that it cannot find the ON.nb(? Didnt I just created it?)....
So I'm stuck....
The constructions workers haven't yet finished furnishing my kitchen, so I have no ingredients to work with....
Any chef willing to help me make a simple meal?????

With HTC Extender Rom Tool you must extract nk.nbf not ext_rom, and when extracting name it OS.nb (i thing it is 2nd line in tool)
Perhaps the would-be chef should read a cookery book?
There's a very, very good guide in this forum, which is what I started off with and had no problems whatsoever, but I can't for the life of me remember if it was beasty or thingonaspring who wrote it (apologies to the real author if I missed them out!). It also includes some fixes for the batch files.
Remember - the wiki and search are your best friends...

Can't rebuild Ranju 7.7
Hi all.
I gave it a go and tried to rebuild Ranju 7.7.
I could decode it, dump it (yes, I extracted the contents of RGU.CAB to the dump directory), convert the dump to packages etc. So far, so good.
But when I tried to rebuild it, the ImgfsToNb tool gave this error message:
"Partition with file system 0x01 found after IMGFS partition. It's safer to abort here, sorry."
What should I do now?

imgfstonb doesn't seem to support the FLASH disk that's in Tomal's ROMs. I don't know what he uses, but when I've based things on his work, I use a different 'donor' OS.nb for the imgfstonb stage. Obviously, I lose the FLASH disk, but as I don't use it anyway, that's not an issue for me.
^^ yup, exactly, it is due flash disk.
Ok, I understand.
But what is the "donor" os.nb used for?
I've extracted the OEM, SYS en XIP parts. Isn't that enough to compose a new ROM?
What parts are re-used from the original os.nb? And must an alternative donor os.nb be of the same version/build?

As I understand it (and I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong), the donor OS.nb is used as a 'template' for storing the IMGFS into an NB structure. As far as I've been able to tell, pretty much *any* OS.nb from *any* ROM can be used as the template.
Basically, imgfstonb takes 3 arguments - the imgfs file itself, a 'donor' OS.nb, and the 'target' OS.nb final output. This is all hidden by the scripting, but is what I've found by playing with the underlying utilities.
The only restriction I've found is that ROMs that contain Flash disk can't be used as the donor OS.nb.
PJC
Could one of the senior members of this forum please comment on pjc007's statements above?
Is it correct that the donor os.nb is only used to determine the right structure for the ROM?
(I'm asking because I got the impression from other posts on this excellent site that the donor os.nb is used as source for the XIP part, but I don't know for sure)
Well, I have the same matter now, I really want to cook sth to use the way I want a rom to be and share with others as I feel really bad just to download, I hope to upload my own rom and share but I read the instructions again and again , look for sth on the internet, download all the things to my PC that will be used to cook, still not certain what I'm going to do.
My question is if I cook a bad rom, then I up it to my EXEC, Is there any chances for it to die ? Or simply just install another well-known rom to rescue it if my rom jail to boot?

searched quite a bit - rar that will not install

Been searching a couple days how to install rar files on to my Verizon XV6900 vogue with WM6.1. I am attaching one of the files I am tring to install, for general help. I can seem to install in activesync, from withing sorage card, etc.
Thanks, in advance
Dave,
Unless you have pocket Rar installed on you device you cant install as its zipped. Download a free RAR extractor on your PC, unpack it and you will find your CAB or files inside...... simply copy them/it to your PPC and voila
pocket rar is installed
I did zip the file to upload it, the forum would not accpt it in rar form. When I put the rar on my device ((XV6900 vogue verizon) WM6.1 ROM 3.14.605.1), I was able to unpack it but there was no cab. I upoaded it tthinking somebody would check the contents and help me out.

Sorry about that Dave, i mis-understood what you were trying to do It would help me if u gave me the link where you got the rar file as it would probably contain instructions as to where on ur device you need to copy the unzipped files to (like /windows etc). Let me know where you got the rar file from.

How to downgrade with official desktop updater!?

Hey,
I tried to pot my Treo back to WM6 from Vodafone with the original updater, but it keeps telling me that my device is not supported because of language issues (Right now there is WM6.1 working on it in english and I need to flash the German WM6). when I open the installer with WINRAR I can see a couple of *.nbh files (cheeimg.nbh and cheeimg_fw.nbh). Is it eventually possible to just take one of them and flash it? or do they anyway require to have a preinstalled stock ROM to update with them? And why are there so many other files in, when i usually actually just need one nbh file as a rom?
Thanks for helping me understand my phone
bump
i d like to know that aswell. did you fixed the issue by now?
If you want to use the official updater you need to modify the payloads.xml file.
You can find it by opening the official updater, but don't start the upgrade. Opening the updater will extract a bunch of files to your TEMP folder. The payloads.xml file will be in one of the subfolders. The folder is called something random so you'll have to seach for it, but you'll see a bunch of Palm icons in it so you'll know you're there.
You can edit the payloads.xml file with any text editor. Notepad works fine.
If you are changing carriers as part of the update, you will probably need to change the carrier code to the one matching the currently installed ROM. This is AT&T, for example.
Code:
<carrier_codes>CNG,ATT</carrier_codes>
I think Vodofone is VF, but you'll have to do some searching to confirm that.
Then you need to change the revision range to allow the downgrade.
Code:
<revision_range>
<low>1.13</low>
<high>3.00</high>
</revision_range>
Save it when you are done, and then start the updater. It should work. If not, there are plenty of posts here about downgrading ROM's, so search around until you find something that works for you.
And yes, you can extract the ROM's from a desktop updater and flash using the SD card method, assuming of course you have successfully HardSPL'd your phone. You need the CHEEIMG_FW.nbh file, but must rename it to CHEEIMG.nbh before putting it on the SD card.
You don't need to Hard-SPL in order to flash official Palm WM ROMs from a MiniSD.
