Hello All,
Upgrade went perfectly. However I can not activate my phone, sprint wants me to go into programming mode by hitting ##13845# and then hit edit in the phone menu. This option is not available, what do I do to get the phone provisioned. I got into the phone by entering ##788# and it took me to an edit menu. Now it asking me for a passcode? What is it or how do I get it?
Thanks

That passcode is your MSL. Take the battery out of your phone and then write down the HEX ESN.
Install GetSPC(attached below) and then input your HEX ESN with Caps lock on.
And then with the push of a button you will have your MSL. Make sure you write it down so you don't lose it.

how to activate verizon?
Cannot access edit menu
I cannot even get to the edit menu. I am not sure I understand how to get there. When on the phone keypad your entering in ##788# and pressing 'send'? This then brings up a menu for you?
If this these are not the steps, please explain what I should be doing/looking for?
Thanks
i cannot access anything. if i put either of those combinations of numbers in it just tries to dial those numbers when i hit send. i upgraded my phone to wm 6.1 n i cannot get it activated plz help thanks!
##778# then send, is the correct number for verizon. Some phones you must leave off the last # for it to go to the edit screen

I would like to know that too
If you really want it on verizon you could ask an authorized verizon retailer to basically do this same thing for you. they love signing people up this way as they get to pocket the normal phone subsidy ($250 on the evo).

Well you can pretty much get Verizon coverage from that other thread using Altell's towers. Too bad ping gets raised, but hell... way better signal and speedtests

Congratulations buddy!
Thanks a hell of a lot for giving us this how to guide. I really appreciate it
Just had 3 questions:
1) Are you getting 3g data in Atlanta or is it just Edge?
2) What plan did you sign up for at MetroPCS?
3) If you decide you don't like MetroPCS, how do you reverse this process back to Sprint service?
Thanks again for figuring this out

that probably depends on the tower coverage for the specific geographical location ...
i see the directions mention HTC Hero a few times. has anybody confirmed this works on the EVO?
Lol, I just spent all night trying to figure this out and you have made it very easy. Thanks. The Diag Drivers link doesn't work but I am sure we could find it somewhere else.
I do have one question. Do you still need to have a Metro PCS dealer add the ESN to their network?

I see... so for $50/mo (contract free) I can get the the same things that Sprint is offering me for $80/mo. When you minus the extra cost to buy the phone full retail $449 vs $199 on contract you actually saving about $570 over a two year period...
Hard choice
3G unstable
I have tried many configurations and no matter what I do, it seems that the "mobile network" connection is not stable. It will go out periodically and say "connection failed" or "turning on". Can you verify that you are not having this issue?
Also, this obviously does not bypass the WAP proxy which is used by Cricket. This means that other protocols, such as those used in navigation software and YouTube, are going to be blocked by the proxy server. Does anyone know a way around this?

google around for the droid eris cricket tutorial. that has the proper method to set it up, and it works on all other cdma htc android phones.
i believe it is posted on howardfourms under the cricket section.

optional settings to fix odd SMS issues
You need to re-enter the SMSC Carrier number. For WIND Mobile Canada, SMSC is 16135009000
Android requires you to enter this info in Hex.
Hex = 07916131059000F0
In the dialpad enter *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information
Scroll down to SMSC field, enter 07916131059000F0 and done. Then reboot

after i enter all in the phone i restart.. i cant send any sms even local ....
re check on the smsc setting its change to 5p4145052...
i re type the number then i click refresh its change 07916131059000F to 0791613105900060.. its that normal ?
It seems like the xt720 doesn't take the Hex format. I used +6135009000 in SMSC and it works.
you can also undo the SMSC code by entering all zeroes 000000000

Hi Folks,
Hopefully some kind soul can help me out here. I reflashed my Wind XT720 and have entered the "*#*#4636#*#*" mode and entered all the variations of the ...6135009000 code. However I have no internet or sms access on my phone.
I see someone at the top of this thread talking about 3G and SMS but I have no idea where to enter that information?
I'd very much appreciate any assistance.
Thanks
G.

any help is great
Go to Wireless and Network setting - mobile networks - Access point names, hit the menu key and "New APN" then enter the info in this thread.
Open dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#* , select phone information, scroll down to bottom where text entry is available, enter +16135009000, click update and refresh, reboot phone.
That's the process I do whenever I flash back to 2.1. and have to redo all that stuff and everything works fine.
thank you. i did not know the process of doing the "New APN", then the *#*#...
but it works so very much appreciated
I inputed that info but for some reason when I go out of the wind zone my phone goes in to emergency mode and does not allow for Any calls or text or any received text messages.
Also for some reason the web browser crashes when I open some Hotmail emails or look at some Facebook messages.
I am not sure if this is caused by my self really installing 2.1

Oh thanks. It works now.
LTE is back online, please follow steps at the bottom of this post to get everything back in order.
*If you are in a 4G area it is advisable to make sure you switch to eHRPD to avoid bad hand offs between 4G and 3G as well as allowing simultaneous voice without hiccups. I noticed my GPS was not working last night so it is possible eHRPD settings will affect your gps or it could have just been due to the network issues.
As most are aware both the LTE network and eHPRD are down (a special version of 3G for the Thunderbolt only). To get 3G data back you just need to change your settings back to the normal 3G network. Here are the steps:
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose enable and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”
Restart your phone and you should see 3G is working
last step (may not be necessary)
dial *#*#4636#*#* go to phone info, then set preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL)
I hope this helps anyone that is left in the dark by this outage.
If you are running a non-stock dialer or a rom that included a dialer it may prevent you from entering settings. Flash this zip to go back to stock dialer
http://www.mediafire.com/?9yf09ri4t2mip4z
For those that want instructions for after LTE is back on
These 2 steps will put you back on LTE and then put you back on the correct 3G for the Thunderbolt, when its back up.
dial *#*#4636#*#* to get LTE, go to phone info, set preferred network type to CDMA + LTE EvDo auto
Dial ##778# and hit send
A pop-up window named EPST will show up giving you 2 choices: View Mode and Edit Mode. Pick: Edit Mode.
Enter the Password: 000000
Go down to Modem Settings and pick “Rev A“
You’ll want to choose eHRPD and click OK, hit the menu button and then press “Commit Modifications.”

Isn't this selected by default? I changed it to "enabled" let it reboot, and 3G is back on.
By default we are setup for the eHPRD 3G network on the Thunderbolt because it allows faster switching between 4G and 3G. Since both network features are down you have to switch your settings to the 3G network used by all other Verizon phones.

yea but in your instructions you said select eHPRD, which is already selected.

one more step guys, if you are on auto cdma/lte settings, you might have to go in to

It would be nice if you could add this to OP wakestrong. I think people in 4g area have cdma/lte auto option enabled so in the phone settings the phone is still trying to pick up the older cdma.
So this has worked for everyone? I tried this earlier with no luck and just did it again with no luck either :/

Yea I could see how that would be a stressful situation. Glad it worked out for you.
I have had several instances where something I have done to my phone created a situation where I had no phone dialing capability. The error message when attempting to dial is "mobile network not available", and I'd get notice of "searching for network".
Restoring the com.android.phone app did not help with this. Neither did the suggestion seen elsewhere about entering ##72786# into the keypad to reprogram. The past solutions was to do a factory reset/wipe and then a restore of apps...pain in the a**.
Today I was able to work out another solution that has resolved this issue for me (at least this time)!.
1. Download Anycut app from http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/download/temp/1281882094_Any_Cut_1.0.apk, and open.
2. Make a new shortcut to activity named IOTHiddenMenu (the first one of three with the same name in the list)
3 Open this shortcut and select the following: TestMode Menu>UTMS>Debug Screen>Phone Control>Network Control>Band Selection>Automatic, then hit back twice to get to your main screen.
4. Download Phone Info ([email protected]) from Google Play, and open
5. Use Phone Info app to change preferred network type "“LTE/CDMA/EvDo" (click on Device Information and scroll down for first box to select and change).
If this works to solve your same issue, let me know in the thread.
And if it helps...give a thanks.
Lair12, now that I am back in the US, for the first time since using my S3 outside the US, I'm getting the no network error as you describe here...
I've tried the steps you describe here, but I still can't dial out (I do have 4g data).
I was wondering if you might have any other ideas before I start flashing? Any insights would be greatly Appreciated!
I had a similar issue recently where I could receive texts and utilize data but nothing else. Attempting to dial out would lead to the "Mobile Network Not Available."
This problem first occurred after putting a T-mobile sim in the phone. I tried numerous things such as playing with the phone settings in phoneinfo and I even restored the Verizon image which re-rooted my phone but nothing would help.
I decided to place my microsim into my thunderbolt (with an adapter of course). The thunderbolt worked just fine (phone calls, SMS and Data).
I then placed the microsim from the thunderbolt back into the S3 and everything went back to working as normal. Not sure if it will work for anyone else but I figured I would share since I went crazy trying to find a solution that did not require a full factory reset.
Well, just to close the loop, I was never able to restore my voice connection... I ended up having to reset the phone back to stock to get it back...
Oh well, it gave me a reason to try out CM10!

I'm necro-ing this thread since it just happened to me and I found a fix on CM10.1 given the root cause. Also, Anycut no longer exists in the store -- try using "QuickShortcutMaker" instead.
This seems to happen when the radio gets switched off the correct frequency. To get it back (in CM10.1), you have to dial *#*#4636#*#* . As soon as you hit the last *, you will be taken to a "Testing" menu.
Click "Phone information" then make sure your phone number and IMEI look roughly correct. Then press the "Menu" softkey and then "Select radio band". For Verizon CDMA/LTE, this should be set on "Cellular (800-MHz)". Tap it, and the signal indicator in the menu bar should go back to normal. Also make sure the "Preferred network type" is set to "LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)". (This is also where you enable "GSM auto (PRL)" if you want to make it a WorldPhone.)
The other option in here is USA band (GSM-850/PCS-1900/WCDMA-850/WCDMA-PCS-1900), which I presume is for GSM compatibility since "Global" isn't an option in the "Mobile Networks" menu in CM10.1 (without a certain cherrypick).

Interesting, thanks for the follow up!
I'm currently running Paranoid Android, but this my work for that as well. The next time I leave the US for work, (if I see this issue) I'll give it a try..
Doesnt Work for me, BUT EFS Pro Does!

Re-Necromancing Again....
Doesnt work for me. I had to push "call" after entering last star same error- no mobile network... Thought I would give it a try since I hit the wrong option on the screen. I was looking at the LTE options and got distracted... I did however get EFS Pro to Open IOTHiddenMenu. It is like the 2nd or 3rd tab, you will know it when you see it. Now to find out where (IOTHiddenMenu) is hiding on the actual phone. I did find
*#22745927
This shows an option to hide or show the "hidden menu".
I tried enable and a reboot, but no luck. Looks like EFS Pro is My Solution currently.
