optional settings to fix odd SMS issues
You need to re-enter the SMSC Carrier number. For WIND Mobile Canada, SMSC is 16135009000
Android requires you to enter this info in Hex.
Hex = 07916131059000F0
In the dialpad enter *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information
Scroll down to SMSC field, enter 07916131059000F0 and done. Then reboot
originally from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10641756&postcount=30

so i need 2 apn setting 1 with 3g 1 with mms?

after i enter all in the phone i restart.. i cant send any sms even local ....
re check on the smsc setting its change to 5p4145052...
i re type the number then i click refresh its change 07916131059000F to 0791613105900060.. its that normal ?

It seems like the xt720 doesn't take the Hex format. I used +6135009000 in SMSC and it works.

you can also undo the SMSC code by entering all zeroes 000000000

Thank you, Master

Phone but no data/sms
Hi Folks,
Hopefully some kind soul can help me out here. I reflashed my Wind XT720 and have entered the "*#*#4636#*#*" mode and entered all the variations of the ...6135009000 code. However I have no internet or sms access on my phone.
I see someone at the top of this thread talking about 3G and SMS but I have no idea where to enter that information?
I'd very much appreciate any assistance.
Thanks
G.

No 3G networking...
I found the appropriate place to enter the 3G/SMS information. Everything seems to be working properly.
Thanks
G.

where is the appropriate place. i have flashed with original sbf file and i have no 3g settings text or interent. i do have voice. have tried the *#*#4636#*#* way but brings up error once i enter hex or +1613....
any help is great

Go to Wireless and Network setting - mobile networks - Access point names, hit the menu key and "New APN" then enter the info in this thread.
Open dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#* , select phone information, scroll down to bottom where text entry is available, enter +16135009000, click update and refresh, reboot phone.
That's the process I do whenever I flash back to 2.1. and have to redo all that stuff and everything works fine.

thank you. i did not know the process of doing the "New APN", then the *#*#...
but it works so very much appreciated

I inputed that info but for some reason when I go out of the wind zone my phone goes in to emergency mode and does not allow for Any calls or text or any received text messages.
Also for some reason the web browser crashes when I open some Hotmail emails or look at some Facebook messages.
I am not sure if this is caused by my self really installing 2.1

Is your phone set to "Select automatically" the preferred network or did you use "Search networks" and selected WIND Home (won't allow roaming if this option is selected with WIND Home)?

I just installed CM7 on my phone. I am getting WIND AWAY all the time. How do I change that?
Thanks

CM7 is a work in progress, the radios I believe are not compatible with WIND. Flash CM6 for now and if you want the gingerbread feel, apply Sileshn's theme

[Q] Edit the registry to properly configure MMS on my WP7 phone?

I'm using an unlocked LG Optimus 7 phone (Mango, build 7720) on the T-Mobile USA network. Aside from a lack of 3G support on the T-Mo USA network, this phone is really working great*!
...*except for MMS support.
For whatever reason, the built-in profiles for this phone do NOT include T-Mobile USA, which is really a bummer. I was able to test with an AT&T sim card, change the profile accordingly, and test MMS -- and that worked fine -- but no such luck with T-Mo USA... even with adding a new APN.
Has anyone figured this out? Since we have access to the registry via the MFG app, can we get in there and change the necessary values? MMS isn't the most critical function, but it is awfully nice to have.
Anyone??
Try this basically you need to set a flag to re-get the apn settings from your network.

Wow. That did it! I've tried EVERYTHING *except* for those little registry keys that you mentioned, and honestly... I only needed to change the "ConfigurationStatus" entry. Crazy!
For the record, I....
- Launched the MFG app
- Went to the Engineer Menu > Other Setting
- Opened the Edit Registry item
- Chose HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE from the 1. drop down
- Entered System\AutoDataConfig for the Input SUB_PATH
- Entered in each of the provided four entries for the Input KEY (and chose DWORD instead of String)
- Hit Query to find the current value
- Typed in the proper value (if needed) for the Input Data field and hit Set
- Hit Query one last time to verify
When all was completed, I backed out, turned off the phone, booted back up and tested. Voila! Working like a charm.

MMS does indeed require a data connection. Or more accurately a mms plan and the ability to use your carriers data connection.

It's been working great, but for some reason I keep "losing" my ability to send/receive MMS messages. I'll go through the four registry values....
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\AutoDataConfig]
"RunADC"=dword:1
"ConfigurationStatus"=dword:0
"Attempt"=dword:0
"MaxAttemptsAllowed"=dword:3
....and I'm finding that "RunADC", "Attempt", and "MaxAttemptsAllowed" all seem to have NULL values when I query them. "ConfigurationStatus" has consistently remained with a "0" (zero) value.
Anyone else see this behavior? Any fix?

My values are resetting too, but it happens as soon as I restart my device, so I dont even get temporary MMS ability... ConfigurationStatus and Attempt reset to 1. The others remain as the values I set them too.
I also tried some recommendations from another thread. No luck at all.

MMS not working correctly

I have the following problem on my almost new Desire S.
I browsed the forum, but did not find an answer
i have the correct configuration for both MMS and 3G data.
Test case A)
If I configure only 3g APN, internet is OK, but no MMS (of course)
Test case B)
If I configure only MMS APN, internet does not work (of course) but MMS are perfect.
Test case C)
This is the very strange case...
if I configure both APN for 3g and MMS... internet is OK, but MMS do not work at all...
Sending MMS gives me "generic network error" message
When I receive an MMS, it contains only the text and it display a message saying "can not download"
Any suggestions?

Sorry, I can't offer any sensible advice, as all I can think to suggest would be to do a full reset and then re-setup from sratch, which is probably over the top.
I've never had to manually play with APN's myself. Can you get the VODAFONE website to send you the APN's you need?
I already reset the phone to factory... almost 3 times.
Since 3g APN and MMS APN work fine separately, they are correct.
Yes I get autoconfiguration sms from vodafone, but no chance to have mms and 3g working together

Simple Mobile APN Configuration on the G2x
This goes out to all my broke peoples out there! Keep yo heads up, Fam, and we gonna get through these tough times together!
NOTE: This guide is for ICS-based ROMS, such as Hellfire Sandwich. This is the most highly recommended ROM for G2x right now ... according to ME!
After much trial and error--having just been forced to involuntarily abandon T-Mo US for Simple Mobile last week due to lack of having paper--the following procedure worked for me. Don't listen to NOBODY ELSE, other instructions DO NOT WORK, I know I tried them all! Especially don't go by the guide on Simple's website, they ain't got a ****in clue what they talking about either! Anyway, I hope it might help other people with the same problem.
If you currently don't see any APNs under System Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names, good! Do the following procedure.
If you've already been pranking around with the APNs trying to get them to work, delete all your APNs under System Settings > Wireless & Networks > More... > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names, reboot your phone and then do the following procedure.
You must not be connected to Wi-Fi when you go through these steps.
From the APNs screen, press the Menu Button. Tap Reset to Default. Wait as much as 5-10 minutes and let the thing do its work. You should now see 2 APNs: Simple and T-Mobile US.
Now you have two APNs there, but neither of them will actually work ... yet. They're generic and now we'll need to do some tweaking.
Counter-intuitively, we're gonna ignore the APN called Simple and work with the one titled T-Mobile US. You'll understand why in a minute, trust me.
Press the Menu Button.
Tap System Settings.
Under Wireless & Networks, tap More...
Tap Mobile Networks.
Check that "Data Roaming" and "Use Only 2G Networks" are both unchecked.
Tap Access Point Names.
If you did the Reset to Default routine above, tap T-Mobile US.
Here are the settings (be careful they are case sensitive and don't put stray spaces in there or you'll be pulling out your hair wondering why it won't work, trust me on that!):
Name: Don't change, leave it as "T-Mobile US". I don't know why but the G2x seems to like it better that way.
APN: simple
proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Username: Don't change, leave T-Mo US setting (whatever that is) intact.
Password: Don't change, leave T-Mo US setting (whatever that is) intact.
Server: Don't change, leave T-Mo US setting (whatever that is) intact.
MMSC: http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMSProxy:[empty]
MMS Port: [empty]
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Once you finish filling all this in, press the Menu Button.
Tap Save.
This will take you back to the APNs screen.
Now tap the other APN, Simple.
When it opens up, tap the Menu Button.
Tap Delete APN.
You are done. Watch the Signal Strength indicator in the Notifications Bar. It may take a minute, but it should now turn Blue, you should get 5 bars, and your should see a tiny H appear next to it.
You're now good to go, but you can optionally reboot if you feel like it and then check if your APN is still there. If it ain't, program it again and use APNsBU or APN Manager Pro from the Market/Google Play Store to backup your APN settings for easy restoral just in case they keep vanishing.
Good luck!
Hit the "Thanks!" Button below if this helped you.

If you're on Simple Mobile it lets you use the web and mms (Multimedia Messaging Service, or "picture messaging"). If you're on T-Mo or another network, it will stop you from using the web and mms.
You say you're a n00b, don't worry my man, we all were once upon a time.... Stick around here and you won't be for long!

but as for the APN, when put a new rom on i get simple and tmobile and it defaults to tmobile and i can browse the web and send mms messages
MMS Still don't work
I'm on EB ICS 4.0.4 Build3. I was having problems with apns just disappearing. I did everything as had been described earlier and my internet started working. Though apn still sometimes disappears I just hard reboot the phone and it comes back. One problem though MMS is still not working, it just keeps saying sending and never goes through. Will see, maybe there is an answer somewhere out there.

The Name Of His Video Is How to setup APN/mobile internet and MMS on SIMPLE Mobile for HTC. It Works For Any ICS ROM. Check It Out And Follow Step By Step And Where The APN Says Not Set Make Sure It Says Not Set Instead Of None. If All Goes Well You Should Have Simple Mobile Running On Your ICS ROM. [HOW TO] Fix SMS Sending Issue

I was having an issue on sending SMS messages, but I have fixed it. Here is how:
SMSC Number Update for CyanogenMod
SMS (Short Message Service) is specified by the ETSI (standards GSM 03.401 and 03.382 ). It can contain up to 160 characters, where each character is written according to the 7-bits GSM default alphabet.
SMS also contains some meta-data, e.g.
Info about the senders ( Service center number, sender number)
Protocol information (Protocol identifier, Data coding scheme)
Timestamp
There are 2 ways to receive and send SMS messages, PDU (protocol discription unit) and Text mode. In this page we focus on PDU mode, which is what Android 2.3 and higher recognize. The SMS messages travel through the SMSC gateway to send and receive. A common symptom of a badly configured SMSC is your device is able to receive SMS' but not send (usually reporting as sent, but without reception on the receiving end).
First, you will need your carrier's SMSC gateway number. Below are the numbers for major US carriers, (Google for your carrier's number if not covered here):
Sprint: +17044100000
Verizon: +316540951000
AT&T: +13123149810
T-Mobile: +12063130004
Rogers Wireless (Canada): +17057969300
Notice the numbers include the +, this matters for the next steps
Converting to PDU format
Take your number, including the + and go to http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
Towards the bottom of the page, there is a spot to enter SMSC, Receiver and Message
Enter your full SMSC number (including the +)
Leave Receiver and message box blank
Select Alphabet 7
Hit Convert
You will get an output in the box on the right side
Take the first 16 digits from the second line (examples for above carriers listed)
Sprint: +17044100000 = 07917140140000F0
Verizon: +316540951000 = 0791135604590100
AT&T: +13123149810 = 07913121139418f0
T-Mobile: +12063130004 = 07912160130300f4
Rogers Wireless (Canada): +17057969300 = 07917150979603f0
Your SMSC number is now in PDU format, now to update your phone:
Open Dialer
Type the following sequence '*#*#4636#*#*'
Open Phone Information
Scroll down to SMSC
Optional: Hit Refresh to see current SMSC number used
Enter in your PDU formatted SMSC number
Press Update
Once entered, it can take up to 10 minutes for the phone to 'handshake' with the new gateway. A reboot is also suggested to power cycle the radio, {this step is unnecessary if you follow steps 9 through 12).
Turn off radio
Turn on radio
Hit Refresh to see current SMSC number used
Send a test SMS
Assuming everything worked, you should now be able to send and receive SMS' properly.
Note: MMS is controlled by the APN in Android. If MMS is failing, double check your APN information

Canadian SMSC codes
For those needing Canadian SMSC codes...found out what the Fido, Bell and Telus call forwarding numbers were, and converted them (not tested).
Fido: +15149931123 = 07915141991321F3
Bell: +16473832355 = 07916174832353F5
Telus/Nextel: +15148210053 = 07915141280150F3
Wind: +16135009000 = 07916131059000F0 (taken from here)
Vidéotron: +15144240053 = 07915141240450F3
Also, since I'm with Mobilicity, their SMSC code (according to tech support) for Android 4.x is 0791617480001f6 (tested and works).

Factory reset wireless reset the whole shabang... nothing worked. Is there another method ? Using galaxy note 8 n950u updated to latest firmware no root sadly, tmobile variant, unlocked.
Unfortunately it doesnt seem to work with Sprint...

Sprint LG V20 Free Hotspot

You can PROBABLY do this without root IF you can coax Sprint into giving you your MSL code, go to the dialer and type ##3283#, going to APN Settings and hitting edit.
THIS method, however, only works if youve ran DirtySanta and rooted your device. I saw a few threads of ppl asking how to get it working so....here's how i did it.
Go to Settings-->Networks-->More-->Mobile Data-->Access Point Names-->Add APN
Name: Sprint LTE 2
APN: n.ispsn
MMSC: http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS Proxy: 68.38.21.7
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 120
APN Type: default,mms,supl,dun,hipri
APN Protocol: IPV4/IPV6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPV4/IPV6
Leave everything else untouched
Hit Menu-->Save
Select the new APN you just created
Turn on hotspot
For some reason, after you turn on hotspot you may have to manually set the DNS on whichever device you're using to 8.8.8.8 otherwise the internet doesnt work. Not sure why that is, but after i did that, my hotspot works.
If youre using an android tablet with your hotspot and have to change the dns(you'll know because it'll say you're connect to the hotspot but you can't browse any websites), then on your tablet go to your wifi settings, long click on your hotspot youre connected to, click "show advanced options" and change Dynamic to Static (may say manual). After that, scroll down and change the setting for DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8. Should work after that.
I used to use hotspot a lot about a year ago with my note 5(7-10 gb/month average) and never got dinged for it. I would think that if you're cool about it youll be ok. I cant say that FOR SURE but I've never had issues.
Just for the record. I tried everything before rooting. I paid off my phone so they couldn't deny me my MSL. The options are simply missing after entering your MSL code. You can see everything with ##DEBUG# (can't remember the numbers ) but they made sure to remove the option when I used ##3282#. This was the Main reason why I rooted. After rooting it didn't work so I had to figure it out.

Just Clarify you attempted without root and it did not work. You then attempted with root and it still did not work. So while rooted you used them method the OP posted and it worked. ?

I attempted without root and the options were not available for the most part and what little they had, most can't be edited even when I imputed my MSL. Sprint made sure that it wasn't possible without root. There is no add apn option.
After root, I immediately tried to use hotspot and it connected but my devices couldn't get internet services. I asked for help but me2151's hotspot worked well so I figured that I was on my own. I remember adding dun on my lg g4 so I tried the codes but I couldn't get any of the codes to even register on my newly rooted phone.
I finally found the found those setting by searching and saw that "DUN" wasn't there. I then made a new APN with the existing settings but added DUN and it worked so I posted it.
By the lack of responses, I figured that almost no one had the problem.
BTW, how did you figure out adding the apn would work? I remembered a post on the LG G4 forum over a year ago and tried it for this phone.

Sprint Hotspot Fix (not passing data to connected devices)
The following is the fix when you can connect to the Hotspot but get DNS errors or no data being passed to connected devices.
Sprint prevents you from editing your APNs
You can change permissions on your telephony db with this command:
adb shell
su
chmod 666 /data/user_de/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
Grab the ID of your current APN using the following command:
adb shell
content query --uri content://telephony/carriers/preferapn
If the type doesn't contain "dun", copy the existing type string and add ",dun" to the end:
In the following command you would substitute
your current type string for "your_type_here",
and the _id for your_id_here:
adb shell
su
content update --uri content://telephony/carriers --where "_id=your_id_here" --bind type:s:your_type_here,dun
Example
adb shell
content query --uri content://telephony/carriers/preferapn
Output
Row: 0 _id=656, name=Sprint LTE internet, numeric=310120, mcc=310, mnc=120, apn=n.ispsn, user=, server=, password=, proxy=, port=, mmsproxy=68.28.31.7, mmsport=80, mmsc=http://mms.sprintpcs.com, authtype=-1, type=default,mms,supl,hipri, current=1, protocol=IPV4V6, roaming_protocol=IPV4V6, carrier_enabled=1, bearer=14, bearer_bitmask=0, dns1=, dns2=, ppp_dialing_number=ppp_dialing_number, defaultsetting=1, usercreatesetting=0, sim_subscription=0, inactivetimer=0, mvno_type=, mvno_match_data=, sub_id=2147483643, profile_id=0, modem_cognitive=0, max_conns=0, wait_time=0, max_conns_time=0, mtu=0, edited=0, user_visible=1, touch=0

I ran into this issue on my Pixel XL and was helped by @Fenny to come up with a fix
do u need root?
Seems to be that you do, his post above said that without it he was missing the ability to edit parts that needed to be changed. I have yet to see a version of these edits for hotspot provisioning that didn't require rooting to be able to edit the appropriate files.
thank you everyone, you need root to edit the APN settings. I'm waiting a solid method to restore to stock before I root. again thanks everyone for their effort.

I realized you couldn't edit the default apn for Sprint so i created a new one since i was already rooted to see if it would work

hey guys just an FYI, you don't have to go through all the trouble of making a new APN setting and stuff like that which is quite frankly a pain in the ass; get shortcut master (free version is fine) from play store. Open it and from the menu tap search, and let it load a sec. Search for "APN" and look near the top of the results for the "ApnUnlock" intent from hidden menu. Tap it's choose the far left Launch method button. The next screen will let you unlock APN access, you just tap the button, you can't miss it.
After its unlocked, launch the ApnSettings intent two lines down in the search results. You can now edit the sons you already have (just add ,dun). That's all it takes. If that ApnSettings doesn't do it, scroll down a page and choose the vzw one, its never failed me once yet through 4 LG phones.
My hotspot works now like it should, I never had to change any DNS settings or anything like that. Zjyst Unlock, then add ,dun to end of the APN type line.
P.S. this method requires root, Im unaware of any way around that, unfortunately

If anything. That is the EXACT program that I was looking for. A shortcut maker but with root access. I use shortcutmaker but it always says that it needs permission. This one asks for permission. Thanks.
This is a far better way too. I did the whole apn thing a few weeks back because I didn't know of this program.
Does anyone know if this counts on the 5gb data free hotspot or is it simply unlimited ? I have the unlimited plan and it includes 5 gb free hot spot.

data used for the hotspot will go against the regular unlimited data. as far as sprint is concerned, its undistinguishable

Settings > Mobile data > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. I literally figured this out while drunk at a bar from the information that was already in this thread, so if you can't figure it out on your own, you probably don't deserve free wireless tethering in the first place.

I also managed to get it working without root. I went to Settings > Mobile data > Mobile networks > Access Point Names, and on the upper right, I clicked the 3 dots and hit Add APN. I copied the settings in the first post, and selected it as my APN afterwards. I'm not sure why I have the option to add new ones, I'm unrooted on LS997ZVC.
