Creating a shortcut/quicklink to pocketputty.exe on my homescreen (or start menu?) - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hey guys,
I have putty.exe located in my storage card, and can't seem to add it to my home screen and/or my start menu.
Is there any way to acomplish this?
Cheers.

Creating shortcuts
Hi.
Easiest way entirely on phone is:
1) Locate .exe in file manager
2) Right click (Hold down on the file) to select it and 'copy'
3) Navigate to Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs (it can take a while to load sometimes
4) Right click & select 'paste as shortcut'.
Hope this helps

That worked like a charm! thx!

I needed to do this for my igo8.exe.
I tried doing it on my pc but the paste shortcut option was greyed out I'm running windows 7 64 bit, does anyone know the reason for this.
I managed to do it using the file explorer on the device but would really like to know why it doesn't work via my pc?
thanks

It's (I think) to do with the way that Activesync/WMDC interprets actions on our WM devices as it doesn't see it as a straight-forward flash device for obvious reasons. The best way is through your phone.

Application not showing in Programs list

Hi,
I have an application that i can run (its an exe file) when i click it in File Explorer, but it runs but does not appear in the Programs list in WM6.
The application is called Stoptime from Jonathon Sachs of dl-c.com
Anyone know how i can rectify that?

Gavin
edit: i figured it out. By the way its an exellent stop watch application.

You can just tap and hold on it in File Explorer and tap "Copy" then in File Explorer go to My Device --> Windows --> Start Menu --> Programs and paste it in there.
the exe file has to be installed through activesync.
Not necessarily. Sometimes an app is downloaded as an EXE and you run it on your PC and it installs via ActiveSync. But sometimes you download an EXE and it is supposed to run on the phone.
If you use the file explorer to make a shortcut to the exe rather than copying the exe, you don't have to copy any dependencies across.

I tried this first before posting this topic, and after reading some instructions, learnt that the only way to get it to appear in the Programs list is to install it via Activesync.
note: i recall that some one was able to extract the cab file (from exe files needing to be installed via activesync) from the installation so that future installs can be achieved without activesync.

Manila "Today Screen" Softkey Change

Here is a step-by-step instructions on how to change the Manila Home "Today" screen bottom "Phone" soft key into "Contacts" soft key.
1. Download and copy the following Cab file onto your device SD card.
2. from your device install the downloaded cab file on the DEVICE memory.
3. Go to Start/Programs/System/Manila Config/Softkeys ( from the bottom tabs ), (Manila Config is also called Manilla 2D Customizer (M2DC)) Locate it and click on "Softkeys").
4. In the box under the "Left Softkey Name" type in Contacts
5. Click on the Right-hand box next to the 'Left Softkey Command space.
6. Locate the "Windows" directory and click it and wait till directory tree opens up.
7. Locate "RandomAccess.exe" file and click it; you will see it toward the bottom of the "Windows" directory tree.
8. Click on "Apply" at the bottom of your screen display.
9. it will prompt you to restart, click OK and you will have the lefthand soft key changed to Contacts. A much better setting than "Phone" command which you can access via the Green "Phone" hard button.
Good luck.
Credit goes to the creator of the "Random Access" cab file... For more info visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427392
is it possible to use this to add "device lock" to the today screen? im running garmin dk.4.c if that helps. i dont like the slide2unlock.
sorry if this is mentioned somewhere else also, ive been searching for it for at least a hald hour now on here and i cant find it
there is already a wonderful thread in the dev and hacking forum by mpenguin that explains soft keys changes and more on m2d; but thanks for ur post and explanation anyways
Hmmm...
... I downloaded the file. Copied it to my SD card and ran the .cab but it doesn't ask me where I want to install it (phone or SD) and just says it's installed. So I reset the phone look for the Manilla Softkey Edit in Settings/System... nada. Any ideas?
Just a thought... is it because I'm running TF3D? That's the only thing I can think of.

I am experimenting with TF3D but did not dive into key remapping yet. I suggest you copy the cab file onto your device memory and try to run it that way. Your initial installation could have taken place on your SD card perhaps, and thats why you are not seeing it. Try the Device memory and let us know.

Why don't you expand your suggestion by posting a direct link to what you have mentioned? Your remark makes one hate posting any help thread ...

See if you have M2DC ( Manila Customizer). If you do not have it then go to http://code.google.com/p/manilla2dcustomizer/
and install it.
Alternatively, you can have M2DC link the left softkey to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Contacts.lnk, no need to install any cab (other than M2DC, of course ).
it's easyier to use M2DC
Manilla customizer the latest build can change the softkeys
much easyier
Took the easy way out...
... I wanted to remap the right softkey to the RSS Hub... but I just used the PTT button instead since I don't use the voice recorder. Thanks for you help though... both of your options worked by the way.
How do i add device lock to the soft keys. By searching couldnt find anything..
Is there any way to change soft key to device lock using manila customizer?

Tomtom makes my bluetooth stop working, I have the answer

hi
i just got the tomtom and bluetooth issue and i found a way for it to work!!!
this takes from everyones solution and kinda of mixes it into one.
(Please note i am a newbie to this so if this works for you like it did for me great!!!! if not then please let me know and i will try)
yes you will need the tom tom cab file
All actions are to be done on the phone only!!
1) install the tomtom cab file and select the STORAGE DEVICE only. DO NOT INSTALL ON DEVICE!!!
it should restart to complete the installation.
2) when the phone restarts it should come up with an error message the bt file is not a pocketpc file and gives you the normal error.
3) While the phone is switched on remove your memory card.
4) go to settings, application, remove programs and select the tom tom program and remove it.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE REMOVED YOUR MEMORY CARD BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE SOFTWARE.
5)The phone should then be restarted.
6) You should have now a normal phone that works and bluetooth should be fine.
7) now insert your memory card.
8) go to start, file explorer, storage card, program files, then navigator, here you need to copy the tomtom navigator exe file.
this should be the file with the tom tom logo(the one with the red hands).
copy this file, you do this by pressing on the file and hold it down.
so copy file.
9) now go back to the device memory, you just press the down arrow in the top left hand corner and select my device.
10) now select windows, start menu, programs, and copy the shortcut to this folder.
11) select the tom tom file and rename from "short cut to tomtom" to just tomtom.
12) restart the phone!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT
Now you can access the tom tom from the start menu on your phone and create a shortcut on your phone to it!!!!!
yes yes it was abit of an epic walk thru but this worked 100% for me!!!
you are welcome and thanks to this forum for the apps!!!!
please can you say if this worked or not please
To get Bluetooth working again, you just delete these 2 files then restart your phone.
BtSdkCE30.dll and BtCoreIf.dll
Or use one of the HD2 specific TT cabs that allready have the BT files removed. Works like a charm.
TT for HD2 cab please...
tomasz
Can you provide the link for TT u mentioned please?
How can I remove these two files (BtSdkCE30.dll and BtCoreIf.dll), because on my device these two files are closed by the system ??
Just rename them both, to something like BtSdkCE30old.dll and BtCoreIFold.dll...
It should do the trick

No, I can´t rename the file because they are locked by the system
Are using Total Commander or Resco Explorer? The normal File Explorer will not allow it.

iam new to hd2.need help?

aslam o alikum all.
i updated rom of my hd2.
after that i was scrolling in windows folder and saw soliter, bubble breaker, auto update ,transcriber in that folder but these applications are not displayed on interface anywhere i tried to copy them but it says cant copy from rom directory .
anyone can tell me how can i bring them on home screen.
thankx in advance.will be thankful.
You need to click/hold on them and select 'Copy'.
Then you need to go to the Start Menu/Programs folder of the Windows folder (where all the shortcuts in the Start Menu and sub folders are), and then you need to 'Paste Shortcut' into here.
They will then appear in the Start Menu, or appropriate sub folder depending on where you Pasted the Shortcut to.
Edit:
To follow up on this reply, to have them appear on the home screen, you then can select them to add as required on the quicklinks.
dosent work
i tried this it works but if u turn your handset off it dissappears.but if you browse with file explorer its still their.but u cant see it in start menu.

Just go to the folder Windows/Start Menu and delete all unwanted shortcuts!
Why? Windows?
I'm on my HTC Mega, the only buttons i see are: "Block" and (when i press up on a folder) "move up"
In my phone when i connect it to my pc, there are no folders called Windows or Start menu
Can you explain better? Thank you
Hi Exkill,
Do edit your file system, you'll need to install a different Explorer. The one in-built with ROM will not be able to help you. Try for these given below
"Resco Explorer"
"Total Commander"
Google & install.
Using these explorers, you'll be able to find the "Windows" folder on your device. Then Browse to "Start Menu" & then delete the unwanted folders / shortcuts.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
HD
