Activesync - General Topics

Does anyone have experience with an activesync problem where only previously unopened email is sync'd with the device? Simply marking opened mail as unopened doesn't the allow the item to sync.
This is an fresh and unaltered Rhodium syncing with XP Pro SP3, activesync 4.5 over USB.
I have deleted the partnership and retried with no success. The problem points to XP being the culprit as I can setup partnership with my laptop or my Shift and all items are sunc'd okay!
As I am sure all users of Activesync 4.5 are already aware, there are no user settings to configure activesync to function in this way so is it corrupted registry entry perhaps?
What I haven't done yet (now I think about it) is to setup the WM side of my Shift to sync with the same PC and observe the result. This I will do.
Any pointers in the right direction would be gratefully received.

Active Sync Rant - Any ideas

Hi,
Earlier this week I re-installed my PC during its yearly service. It all well trouble free and I was able to sync my T-Mobile MDA Compact 3 quite happily without losing any Outlook entires etc.
As part of this process I also upgraded from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2007. A few days into the new install I also decided (this was a BIG mistake) to upgrade from ActiveSync 4.2 to 4.5.
It seemed to work fine to begin with and around about the same time I also re-installed Jeyo Mobile Extender which I had forgotton to put on initially.
The following day ActiveSync started to play up. My MDA would happily connect to it but it would not Sync. I could explore the MDA and also install programs to it so there was no problem with the USB connection.
I have since then-
- Hard Reset the MDA
- Re-installed ActiveSync both 4.2 and 4.5
- Uninstalled Jeyo Mobile Extender
- Re-installed Outlook 2002
- deleted ActiveSync partnerships
- Connected my cradle to a different USB port
I have during the above managed to get it to Sync once or twice but it eventually has gone back to the state of being connected but not syncing.
The only thing that ActiveSync trouble shooter has highlighted is that it seems to think that I have a version of Outlook which is too old to work with ActiveSync. It did this with both Outlook 2002 and 2007. I am assuming this is where the problem lies but despite searches on the Internet I can find no solution.
I have posted on a thread in the XDA Mini sub forum where someone else is having the same problems but I thought I would create my own thread and put it in the general forum to see if any of the XDA massive have any solutions.
I intend to do another re-install of my PC and a hard reset of the MDA later tonight and try and go back to Outlook 2007 and ActiveSync 4.2 to see if that cures the problems.
Regards
So is it an mda or pc issue?
I have in the past used a tool called "autopatcher" (free) to update xp on my laptop worked great, media player 11, outlook 2007, windows defender...
Hi,
I am not sure to be honest.
However, I think it is more likely to be a PC issue as I have hard reset the MDA and it has not fixed it. Also the main change was moving from AS 4.2 to 4.5 which coupled with what appear to be a number of other people who seem to experience the same problem.
I am about to start the re-install now, so will report back later with an update.
Regards

Activesync only syncs wm6 -> pc, not the other way

I bought a Samsung i640 (wm6) a couple of days ago, but I do not manage to get my contacts from my pc (Win XP, office 2007) to my phone. I am trying to sync by USB cable (comes with the phone) by Activesync 4.5.
I tried a lot of things, all of which did not help. I tried:
- the Activesync 4.5 from the phone package
- the Activesync 4.5 downloaded from Microsoft.com
- Activesync 4.2, not supported by the phone, as the phone says
- deleted the phone profile from Activesync and re-installed it several times
- deleted and re-installed Activesync serverel times
- used the replace phone items with pc items setting, and the combine items setting
- used several Activesync settings, and unchecked the advanced network functionality setting in the phone
- checked my firewall (Kaspersky) settings, disabled Kasperky
- ran the Activesync troubleshoot functionality, no problems found
- checked the .pst file, no problems found
When I added items to my agenda on the phone, they synced nicely to Outlook. Also, a test contact created on the phone appeared in Outlook, but a contact created in Outlook did not appear on the phone.
After trying to sync on a different pc (Win XP, Outlook 2003) the contacts, which I copied to a .pst file from Outlook 2007, nicely appeared in my phone. When I connected to my own pc at home, the contacts appeared as doubles in Outlook, taken from the phone. After deleting some double contacts, they got deleted from my phone as well, although there still was one entry in Outlook.
I decided to clean the profiles from Activesync from my phone, after which all my data on the phone were deleted as well. After syncing again, I noticed that my contacts did not return, as I expected. Also, I noticed some agenda items appeared in my agenda, but only the one which were placed into Outlook from my phone, and the ones created in Outlook did not move to my phone.
So, I think some sort of connection error is on my pc, in Outlook 2007, as all items from my phone get to my pc, but not the other way around. Also, I think my phone settings are corrected, as I managed to put my contacts via Activesync 4.5 on my phone on a different pc.
I hope someone can help me, as I have no clue how to solve did, and I did not find any information on the internet in different forums.
Thanks in advance.

WMDC "could not access the necessary network..."

I have just posted this over on the Microsoft Technet forum:
"Apologies that this question is similar to a lot of others but I haven't
managed to find exactly the same issue on this forum. I've had no end of
trouble with WMDC as seems to be the general concenus among many users.
The old problem used to be the fairly common one where the error report
states:
"Activesync encountered a problem on the desktop: Support Code 85010014".
That was solveable by deleteting the existing partnerhip and setting up a new
one. The problem would hold off for a couple of days and then begin again.
What is happening not though is I get a message saying:
"Synchronization could not start because this desktop computer could not
access necessary network resources. Please restart your computer and try
again. If the problem persists, please contact your Administrator."
I have tried to following:
Deleting existing partnership
Uninstalling and then reinstalling WMDC 6.1
Hard reset of mobile device
Run diagnostics in Outlook
All searches have revealed problems like this using Activesync and/or
Outlook 2000 and the advice is it to repair Outlook and upgrade your version
of Activesync (on the PC).
I have just flashed a new ROM onto my handset and it synced. I attempted to
sync it again 15 minutes later (with no reboot of either the handset or the
PC) and I was back to the network error message. Rebooting the PC (as
suggested by the error message makes no difference).
Thinking about it the problem began (I think) when I installed Windows Live
Mesh. I don't think the two can be related though as Mesh isn't sharing
anything near my .pst files etc. All I am sharing is one folder in my 'My
Documents' folder.
Any suggestions from anyone who has had and fixed this problem?
I'm running Vista Home Premium, Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, Outlook 2007, HTC TyTn running Windows Mobile 6.1."
Anyone with any suggestions? I've had nothing from anywhere else either.
It's getting really quite annoying!
Stupid WMDC......!

Problem syncing outlook 2007 on vista 32-bit

i just got the at&t fuze as an upgrade from the tilt (kaiser) i have all my contacts on my computer but i cannot get it to sync onto the phone. i also have my latest backup file created with sprite backup but when i go to restore it tells me that i need some sort of "sbu" file to go from the old version of sprite to the new one on the fuze.
i would prefer to get all my old text messages back as well as my contacts by using the backup but it would be fine if i could just get it sync'd with outlook. please, can someone help me.
and yes befoe you flame me i have searched the forums but have come up short of a solution.
AFAIK, Sprite won't restore because you have a different device.
SPB backup works for inter-device restorals but only for PIM data.
FYI, PIM restorals will make manila function incorrectly. I suggest using Microsoft My Phone to back up and restore PINM data.
Can you sync through WMDC?
If you can sync but outlook is not syncing, its in your sync settings.
WMDC? Windows media? yes it will let me sync thru that, at least it shows up in the sync center anyway. i dont use my phone for playing music, i have tried installing the old acticesync 4.5 driver, tried turning off the advanced network functionality and i cant remember what else, name off some things and i'll let you know if i've tried them.
one thing i just noticed is that it shows up under portable devices as a windows mobile device
WMDC, Windows Mobile Device Center replaced active sync in Vista.
If you can see your device in WMDC, then you should be able to set up your outlook sync relationship through there.
I have sync'd to outlook this way previously but I only have POP3 going into outlook so I just bypass it.
when i open wmdc all it shows me is the settings window that lets you change settings like allow usb connections, whether to accept connections from bluetooth or com3 etc. i cant get it to show me anything else
SOLVED, i found a link to a tutorial that fixed it all. here http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/11/22/how-to-sync-your-windows-mobile-device-to-a-windows-vista-pc/

Can't synchronize with Activesync!

Hi all,
It driving me insane that I can't work it out why Activesync is not syncing my phone.
Here is the situation. Got the phone from my brother. With him it synced fine, with USB cable, with Outlook 2003 and WM6.5.
I have the same setup but Outlook 2007.
What happens is that when it connects, it finds the device, I only set it to sync contact, tasks and calender of outlook. It then says "Looking for changes" and soon after it says "Synchronizing". But then it hangs.
I searched the forum and the internet. I tried reconfiguring, soft resets, installing CompanionLink (software that works through Activesync).
No joy!
I simply want to be able to keep my contacts, calender and tasks from outlook synced. Nothing more.
Any help!!?!
I had the same problem when i used Active Sync from XP, but i works when im using Win7.
Try deleting all the Active Sync settings and make the configuration from Win7. When i did that it worked when i connect to the PC with XP - strange but true...
Ok. But what do you mean with "make the setting for win7"?
Yay! Got it to work!
Funny that I had the feeling in the beginning that it might be the amount of to-be-synced items was going to be too big. And somewhere on the net I found someone with the same idea.
I disconnected the device (usb cable). I removed the device from the "file" dropdown menu. And reconnected the usb-cable. When prompted with the wizard, in the settings I deselected ALL the to be synced categories.
Then it found the device and it synced... nothing.
But it said it synced.
Then I opened the option menu in Activesync and added only the contacts. And hurray! It started syncing. Then I added the agenda and hurray again!
The only thing that happened is that I ended up with duplicate contacts and agenda items. But after an hour I had that fixed too.
Note: Although I don't think that it contributed to the solution, I did reinstall and soft-resetted the device before I did all this. Just to let you know...

Click to collapse
Try this:
1. At setting | connections | Run the the 'USB to PC'
2. Uncheck "Enable faster data..."
3. Uncheck "Ask me first about USB...."
4. Soft reset phone & PC
5. sync again.
Note: This may enable activesync works but file transfer from PC to Phone/Storage will fall back. may need to swap the setting back.
HOPE it helps.
