Active Sync Rant - Any ideas - General Topics

Hi,
Earlier this week I re-installed my PC during its yearly service. It all well trouble free and I was able to sync my T-Mobile MDA Compact 3 quite happily without losing any Outlook entires etc.
As part of this process I also upgraded from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2007. A few days into the new install I also decided (this was a BIG mistake) to upgrade from ActiveSync 4.2 to 4.5.
It seemed to work fine to begin with and around about the same time I also re-installed Jeyo Mobile Extender which I had forgotton to put on initially.
The following day ActiveSync started to play up. My MDA would happily connect to it but it would not Sync. I could explore the MDA and also install programs to it so there was no problem with the USB connection.
I have since then-
- Hard Reset the MDA
- Re-installed ActiveSync both 4.2 and 4.5
- Uninstalled Jeyo Mobile Extender
- Re-installed Outlook 2002
- deleted ActiveSync partnerships
- Connected my cradle to a different USB port
I have during the above managed to get it to Sync once or twice but it eventually has gone back to the state of being connected but not syncing.
The only thing that ActiveSync trouble shooter has highlighted is that it seems to think that I have a version of Outlook which is too old to work with ActiveSync. It did this with both Outlook 2002 and 2007. I am assuming this is where the problem lies but despite searches on the Internet I can find no solution.
I have posted on a thread in the XDA Mini sub forum where someone else is having the same problems but I thought I would create my own thread and put it in the general forum to see if any of the XDA massive have any solutions.
I intend to do another re-install of my PC and a hard reset of the MDA later tonight and try and go back to Outlook 2007 and ActiveSync 4.2 to see if that cures the problems.

I have in the past used a tool called "autopatcher" (free) to update xp on my laptop worked great, media player 11, outlook 2007, windows defender...

I am not sure to be honest.
However, I think it is more likely to be a PC issue as I have hard reset the MDA and it has not fixed it. Also the main change was moving from AS 4.2 to 4.5 which coupled with what appear to be a number of other people who seem to experience the same problem.
I am about to start the re-install now, so will report back later with an update.

cant get activesync to work.

hi, i have and xda II with wm 5.0
and i just cant get activesync to work.
at the beginning, it worked, i had office 2003 and as 4.1 (from buzzdev) installed.
then i switched to office 12 beta and it still worked.
after some time, i installed norton 2006.
and some days later, i saw, that activesync was giving me the error code 85010014.
im not sure, if it is because of norton.
i searched and found out that it may be something with exchange servers, but i do not have an exchange server.
then i uninstalled norton.
i didnt work.
i did a hardreset and cleaned the registry and formated the xda II.
i didnt work.
i reinstalled activesync
it didnt work
i reinstalled office 12 beta
it didn work
i uninstalled office 12 beta and installed outlook 2003 + sp2.
it didnt work.
i reinstalled activesync (4.1 from ms homepage)
it didnt work.
i reinstalled and rebooted and deleted the paths of as and office a couple of times, but no luck.
does anyone have any ideas how to solve he problem?
my windows firewall is disabled and i have no other firewalls / av scanners installed atm.

What excatly happens?
I.E Does active sync not find your phone?
-Does it pick up the phone?
-Is there an error?
-Did the phone perform active sync prior to you installing wm5?
-Have you been able to perform an active sync with another phone/pda?
Please describe excatly what happens if anything?

i was able to sync with wm5, but suddenly it stopped working.
How many Mistakes can a man do? Beta Software on the work machine? NORTON??? OMG!!!
I think there is still trash from the Norton Trash on your System.
I had this problem yesterday.
I had to uninstall ActiveSync completely. Once reinstalled it worked fine.

i reinstalled windows and reinstalled al the software, (including norton 2006 and office 12 beta) and now everything runs fine.
got the same problem again.
i installed office 12 at first.
then i installed püowerpoint 2003.
and after i installed powerpoint 2003 the error occured again.
i think that is quite weird, because powerpoint should not have anything to do with outlook.
ActivevSync/Calendar Problem
Hi,
I have an XDA IIs - ROM version 1.40.00 WWE - which I had installed
recently. I am having trouble sync-ing my calendar items on my Windows
XP/Office 2003 PC with the XDA. It was all working fine till last week
and now it seems to have stopped working.
Activesync shows the calendar option as disabled. I am able to sync
everthing else including MS Money 2006. Does anyone know what could be
wrong/how to resolve this problem.
[ Between the time I synced my calendar last time and now, I installed
SPB Plus and uninstalled it - I dont know if that could have caused a
problem. It did make my Voice Command 1.5 stop responding and I had to
reinstall ]

Calendar Not Syncing via Exchange!!!

Have a Kaiser not TILT which out of the box had no issue calendar syncing via Exchange directly along w/ emails and contacts.
I am on the AT&T network as well.
Upgraded ROM to Schap's newest and calendar wouldn't sync
Upgraded to Dutty's Touch WWE as well and calendar wouldn't sync
My radio is the standard from Kaiser 1.27.12.11
ANY AND ALL HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED>>>

Just curious....
Are you syncing directly with Exchange via push-type activesync? Or syncing with your local calendar on your PC with activesync?
I am going direct to Exchange. For my company, I had to add Server Source in Activesync (after adding my company's security certificate), and enter in all the relevant info (server name, secure connection or not, username/password, etc).
Not sure if that sheds any light....good luck.

I am doing it directly to Exchange...we don't use certficates and it works on my hermes with no problem and with custom ROMS...yet once I began using custom ROMS on my Kaiser it stopped syncing ONLY my calendar items...I just deleted the partnership directly on the phone just now and re-added it back, but to no avail...problem still exists...during the initial sync Active Sync on the phone even says syncing 200 calendar items, yet the calendar shows nothing...

When you look in activesync on your phone does it give any error code etc? I have heard of issues with corrupt appointments giving off errors when syncing. Any error will stop the sync of that piece of outlook. IE email gets and error email won't sync, but calendar will etc etc...

Unfortunately no error codes at all it as if it works perfectly...yet when looking at your calendar, nothing is there...i am miffed and pissed at the same time therefore miff-pissed
I guess for the sake of narrowing down the issue, you could re-flash the original Kaiser ROM. The link is posted here somewhere.
I don't know what could be going on. I have the Tilt. I have flashed several ROMs (all based on ATT ROM though), and never had any issues.

i know this sounds strange but did you flash another radio when you flashed the new ROM's?
Reason being, on my Hermes certain Radio's made my Exchange syncing go crazy. Flashing a different radio version solve my problem. Might be worth a try if you havent?
This may sound stupid, but have you verified the date on your phone? Maybe you are accidently 1 year early, so it is syncing your appts but you are looking for them a year from now or whatever. I did this once and it drove me crazy.
Thank you both for your comments/suggestions...the date is correct as I have verified it...as for the radio, I did NOT upgrade the radio from the original that came with the device...even on my hermes I never ever had this type of issue...guess I will try looking at a different radio and seeing if I should flash that..problem is that most people who have the HTC radio .11 say that there is no benefit to upgrading the radio at all. I am beyond miffed!!!
Just upgraded the radio to .17; deleted partnership on the PC and the Kaiser, soft reset device; added partnership back and sync'd...STILL NO CALENDAR!!!! UGGH!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

What operating system are you using? Vista WMDC v6.1 or MS Active Sync v4.5? If you're using Vista you may need to update WMDC to v6.1 and if WinXP you may need to update to Active Sync v4.5. If that is done, please delete and recreate your partnership again...sorry, then under File > Connections menu please select option that says "This computer is connected to" and choose [The Internet]. This is basically part of the process for "How to: Connect to Internet via 2 different proxy settings (1 for GPRS and 1 for Wifi/ActiveSync) and somehow it works for me...maybe as a fluke of luck... Establish a cable connection and sync...takes a bit of time...Please PM me for the documentation if you're interested.
I'm having a similar problem but email won't sync on mine where Calendar does.
I'm using a fresh O2 Stellar (no mods) & Vista WMDC 6.1.6965
Calendar syncs over the air without issue.
My previous O2 mini-s worked flawlessly as do others in my company.
No errors are reported by activesync and it thinks everything is wonderful.
Any tips? It's immensley annoying.
I am using Vista along with the most recent version of WMDC 6.1xxx; i have deleted and recreated the partnerships so many times...no matter what ROM i use it only syncs my contacts and emails...never the calendar..gonna try 1 more time now..I just don't understand this...even w/ my Hermes I never had this issue.
Stranger still...
In my case I can sync everything except appointments created on my device. They just never sync.

I am part of the IT group in my company and 1 of our users are experiencing the same issue.
Good News: Its not your phone. I've tested the users email on multiple phones and receives same result.

Try running ScanPST.exe on your pc... Maybe something corrupt in your outlook calendar causing the problem.
Calendar appointments created on my device are the only things that won't sync for me. First noticed it when ActiveSync drained my battery in about an hour and a half from attempting and re-attempting to sync to exchange server. I have not installed any new programs, changed any configuration settings, or updated ROM recently to cause this.

Had this problem awhile ago, and switched ROMS and it went away. Back again. ran the scanpst on all psts and ost, deleted partnesrhips and no go. Really annoying.

Anyway it's a bad work around but I found something and it will get ALL of your stuff to sync. I found it on another site's forums (sorry cvan remember which one) when I could not find anything about it here other than people mentioning they had the same problem but no solution.
1. Change your Time Zone to a NON-DST time zone (I’ve used GMT-4:30 Caracas) and save the setting.
2. Click ‘Yes” to saving changes to the clock setting.
3. Manually hit Sync in ActiveSync on your device and let it go over your cellular line (sorry haven’t tried it hooked a PC)
4. Once completed change back to your original Time Zone, sync again, and all should be well.
I have to do this EVERY time I add a new appointment to the device directly. I hope this help and I’m REALLY hoping one of you guys can figure this one out and come up with a fix.

Problem with syncing (but not exploring?!!)

Hi,
I have an O2 XDA Trion running WM6 (standard O2 release), and Windows XP with Outlook 2003 and ActiveSync 4.5.
Rom Version: 3.54.206.1
ROM date: 06/25/07
CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
I've been synching my data for months now without any issue, but something just stopped working today?
When I plug it in via USB I get an error message saying that 'Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Please reconnect and try again, etc.'.
I can explore the contents of my device, but not synchronize, and a third party app will even synch, but nothing from Outlook, and quite a lot of the options in ActiveSync are greyed out (though I can still explore via ActiveSync).
When I look at the ActiveSync application on my phone, it looks as if it's never been set up to Sync, and tells me that I need to install ActiveSync on my PC.
I have done a repair install of Activesync 4.5, I've rebooted the PC, I've switched the phone off and on again (fully). Nothing changes. I have (as advised) reconnected several times.
I've not knowingly done anything to either of them in the last few days, which was when it last worked.
I couldn't find anything on the forum on this topic, but if you can refer me to previous issues like this then I'll go have a look.

Hi,
I just wanted to say that I deleted the sync partnership on the PC and created a new one, and it worked after that!
There was an initial problem where it refused to sync again, but since a soft reset it's all been going fine.
I'll keep an eye on it still as I'm a little suspicious, and I don't know what caused the problem!

WMDC "could not access the necessary network..."

managed to find exactly the same issue on this forum. I've had no end of
trouble with WMDC as seems to be the general concenus among many users.
The old problem used to be the fairly common one where the error report
states:
"Activesync encountered a problem on the desktop: Support Code 85010014".
That was solveable by deleteting the existing partnerhip and setting up a new
one. The problem would hold off for a couple of days and then begin again.
What is happening not though is I get a message saying:
"Synchronization could not start because this desktop computer could not
access necessary network resources. Please restart your computer and try
again. If the problem persists, please contact your Administrator."
I have tried to following:
Deleting existing partnership
Uninstalling and then reinstalling WMDC 6.1
Hard reset of mobile device
Run diagnostics in Outlook
All searches have revealed problems like this using Activesync and/or
Outlook 2000 and the advice is it to repair Outlook and upgrade your version
of Activesync (on the PC).
I have just flashed a new ROM onto my handset and it synced. I attempted to
sync it again 15 minutes later (with no reboot of either the handset or the
PC) and I was back to the network error message. Rebooting the PC (as
suggested by the error message makes no difference).
Thinking about it the problem began (I think) when I installed Windows Live
Mesh. I don't think the two can be related though as Mesh isn't sharing
anything near my .pst files etc. All I am sharing is one folder in my 'My
Documents' folder.
Any suggestions from anyone who has had and fixed this problem?

Active Sync error code 8018001

well it seems that i have run into a HUGE problem. whenever i try to sync my ppc with my pc active sync says "Synchronization could not be completed. Try again later. Support Code:80180001"
when i try to sync it later, it still gets the same message. i've searched google and xda-devs, along with some other sites, but found no answer. if someone can help me i'd appreciate it very much.
try the following in the follow order, with a sync attempt in between each one
soft reset
uninstall/reinstall activesync
hard reset
thanks fzzyrn, the only thing that worked was the hard reset though, but thanks for the advice all the same.
Facing problem sync with my outlook..

Error 80180001 Syncs Notes but nothing else
My BA (Qtek 9090) can connect via activesync but will only sync "Notes" and "Favorites" but nothing else.
I can also "Explore" the device when connected and transfer files without problems.
I tried changing all the obvious, tried soft reset, hard reset and reinstallation of OS (WM 6.5). Nothing helps.

same error with Toshiba G810, WM6.5, AS4.5 & WXP SP3...
With an older 6.5 ROM, I hadn't problems at all.
Of course, I doesn't have any ETEN GPRS Wizard, only Autoconfig utility to configure GPRS.

Not sure if this will work for others, maybe it will stop some people from hard resetting.
I was getting this error and had already tried
Soft Reset
Reinstall Active Sync
Hard Reset
However the problem was still there. So I started thinking about my machines changes, and the 1 thing that maybe important, is that I upgraded from outlook 2003 to outlook 2007. So the last thing I did to get my phone syncing again, was
Uninstalled Active Sync
Uninstalled Outlook 2007
Rebooted
Installed Outlook 2003
Rebooted
Installed Active Sync
Rebooted
Synced Phone, every thing worked perfectly.
