Number format for sms in WM 6.1 - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have my numbers in outlook stored in the default format for Outlook 2007 namely +44 0123456789. This makes click to dial in outlook work perfectly and calling on my mobile is fine. The down side is sending a text results in a message saying
"Sorry Destination number format incorrect. Valid number prefixes are +447958879879 or 00447958879879 or from within the UK 07958879879 This message is free"
So... My question is, is there a way around this? Changing the number format means click to dial doesn't work and anyway it is a lot of work to go through my conatcts changing all the numbers to a format that does work.

mm click to dial will work using +441234 5678903 for example, i use it all the time so im unsure why it does not work for you, unless you use your PC's outlook for direct dialing, in which case that is a problem.
There is a peice of software that Deedee had recommended one time not too long ago, but cant remember if it would help you.
I will have a dig around.
Chow.

The number your message has quoted is the UK One2One free SMS text forwarding number. Outbound text messages are routed through another mobile number on your telco's network.
From the Phone Dialing screen.
Menu->Options
Click the Services Tab, then then "Voice Mail and Text Messages" in the dropdown box, and then click Get Settings...... Takes a few seconds to retrieve the info.
Check this number is entered correctly otherwise your messages aren't going anywhere.

timmymarsh, I am using the default outlook dialer. I have discovered that when I have the number in outlook format +44 0123456789 it says the number dialled will be 9 0123456789 (in the new call form i click dialling properties), which is correct. If i change the format so texting works in wm 6.1 to +44 123456789 then in outlook it says the number dialled will be 9 123456789 which of course is wrong. From your last post it doesnt sound as if you think i can get the phone to text if i leave the number format as +44 0123456789, but have to change all the number formats of the numbers i have entered and work on outlook to click to dial correctly?
stephj, My problem is not sending texts but sending them when numbers are stored in the default outlook format of +44 0123456789. If i save it as +44 123456789 i can send a text no problem but click to dial in outlook doesnt work.

I understand that you are using the default outlook dialer and i assume the default contacts app. What i dont understand is when using +44 1234 (do not put an 0 in front of the number) is why it is telling you it will dial 9 12345678. THis is obviously not right and should not happen.
As i have said i use the +44 1234 dialing properties all the time, always works from a mobile (just never a landline obviously).
Had you installed some other contacts app? messed around with dialers at some time? I think there is a conflict happening somewhere, but with knowing what you have installed, or previously installed it is difficult to know.
One last thing, do you have your regional settings set to your proper location, ie UK etc?

Call history full of numbers and no names...

Anyone knows what I can do to update the numbers to match the contact it was assigned under? I deleted an activesync profile on my phone, and then restored it with another laptop, and now my call history is full of numbers without any names. Help? Soft resetting didn't do anything...
Try installing "Advanced Config" (www.touchxperience.com). There's a setting under 'Phone' that reads 'Call ID match'. Set this to the "last x numbers that is used in matching contact with phone number". I.e. in the netherlands we have these formats:
+31xxxxxxxxx
0xxxxxxxxx
(the last 9 are always the same), so for Holland you put this value to 9.

It's 8 for mine. But it's already defaulted to 8, and the call history is still not updated.
yeah same here, pre set to 8 but just numbers and not contacts (except for 1 call has a name)
I Have the same issue, 8 doesn't work, nor does 9....
I have altered the sample sms-numbers to have only numbers, no spaces, but still, no luck...
Does anyone have a solution yet?
Could it be that you have duplicate contacts, ie. the same numbers in 2 contacts?
Not the Cell Phone numbers, but yes on home phone number (I actually share my home phone with my wife, so that number is in two contacts, yes )
For some reason I received an sms of my wife this morning, and now I did get a name, so it appears to be a solution on new messages only... Hopefully it is now solved for all the messages...
Same issue here, although mine was caused by some messing around I was doing with the contacts.
Call history had names and numbers to begin with.
I synced the contacts with my work computer to mess with them.
I synced them back to the phone.
I backed up the contacts with PIMBackup.
I removed the option to sync contacts in ActiveSync (which removes the synced contacts from the phone).
I restored the contacts with PIMBackup.
Existing call history now only has numbers, but new calls have names.
Anyone know of a way to update the existing call history to show the names?

Dont see the names of contacts when answering call

After I upgraded to WM 6.1 I don't see the names of contacts when they're calling me. Is there a fix for this? I thought it had something to do with the countrynumber, though now I think that's not the case.
Huh? It should not be the case.
However, Schap's Advanced config tools have one setting where you can control how many digits phone uses to recognize contact.
I have all contacts in international format (+countrynumbernetworknumberphone number) and have set number of digits to 9 (default is 8).
Of course, networknumber is without leading zero.
Or if you have multiple entries for same contact, phone could be confused and display only number, not name.
But I guess that's not the case...
Synchronizing
I Synchronized the phonenumbers of the phone with my desktop. It now seems allright. I now see the names of the people who are calling.
BTW: I did a backup with Sprite software. I think something went wrong here.

cant See contacts name when an SMS arrives

Hi
I have a question, I have a rahpael running WM6.1. When I get an SMS
instead of showing the name of the person that sent it, it shows the
number even I have the contact stored. What I figured is that the
stored number is XXX-XXXX and the SMS comes from +61 XXXXXXX.
In other phones Ive had (Nokia, Sony Ericsson) when an SMS comes from
that number, it does associate it with the contact name.
Any ideas on how to get this done on the Raphael
Hello
I think its a Windows problem... I had the same problem ..
I´ve changed all my contact numbers to +49....... ( i am from germany )
and now it shows me the contact if i get a sms or a call..
( i changed all in Outlook and sync it... its easer than in the Raphael with this little pencil )

WM 6.5 - SMS inbox issue.

I have tried many cooked roms with my i780, almost all of them WM 6.5.
I realized today that if I have more than one number registered inside an outlook contact (I am used to register alternative mobile phone numbers in the "pager" field), when I receive an sms from a contact with more than one phone number, there is absolutely no way to find out which number was used to text you. Also, when you reply, you don't know the phone number you are texting, you just know that its the same that was used from your contact to text you in the first place.
I realized that today when I was chatting a friend of mine believing that I use my "free of charge" sms messages (which I do when I text his main number) and ended up charging my balance. He told me he was using his alternate number (that I have registered as pager) and when I tried to somehow confirm it, i see there is no way. All you get is the name of your contact. No way to access extra info either for received or sent messages.
Am I missing something? Has anyone else realized that and/or has a problem with it?

How to block an SMS which has no number?

SMS Spam and text messages with trojans and viruses has gotten so bad that I have had to block all SMS except those in my contact list. I use 'Should I Answer' for the SMS blocking.
I get SMS text alerts from several banks with no problem (they normally have a 6 digit number). But one bank has no number and is only identified by what appears to be an email address.
Unfortunately a Contact list does not allow an alphabetical input in the phone number field of the contact list. I question how they can even send an SMS message without a number. I've tried asking the bank for help but they seem clueless about this.
Is there a way to determine what number is being used to send these alerts? I found a number they claim on their website is used for SMS but when entering it in the contact list it is still blocked. I can't get any alerts from that bank due to their use of an email address in place of a number. Any suggestions?
