SURELY there's an app for this - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Ive never had an iphone, ive only had three smart phones and theyve all been androids, but several of my friends have iphones. when they are on a webpage they can choose any text to highlight and copy.
This might be the most universally useful feature on a phone ive seen, its so base, so simple, so necessary. So how do I do it on my nexus 1? Do i need an app? thanks

Better yet, the HTC Desire.
And I wouldn't call Android the "dark side". Android's future looks pretty bright
(and no matter what anyone tries to make you believe, the iPhone is a joke, don't waste your money on that - if you want something more "iphoneish" than the HD2, but much much better than an actual iPhone, get the Desire/Nexus One)
Your keyboard problem could be ROM related. What ROM version are you running? Make sure you have at least the official 1.66 ROM.

Bejewelled on Android

Hi,
The only reason I am considering going back to an iPhone is because it has Bejewelled on it. Does anyone here know if they have plans to release it on android?
I know this sounds so stupid, but it's what is missing on my phone (good games).
Thanks
I believe that Bejeweled exist for Android, google it you'll see that it exists, but looks like it disappeared from Market. You can try Jewels, basically the same thing and free or Jewellust, a little different (it's my favorite actually) but it's not free.

Crapware on the Nexus S?

Apparently ThinkFree Office is pre-installed on the Nexus S.
I just found /system/app/Thinkfree.apk 5.04MB
But I can't access it.
OH MY GOD, CRAPWARE!
I'll never, ever buy another ... nah, just kidding. I don't have a problem with it, but it's a bit surprising.

Huh. Wouldja lookit that. It's alive!
Nope. I don't want it. I'm not saying it is useless, but if I ever wanted to do stuff like that, I'd very much prefer Documents To Go, which I've known and used since it came bundled with my Palm Tungsten T3. ThinkFree? Never heard of it before I found it on my phone.
I'm still leaning towards the crapware label. It's not from Google, it's not part of standard Android, it's non-removable (unless rooted), it has limited functionality but it can be upgraded for a fee. Yes, that does sound familiar.

On the Nexus One?
lulz. n00bs. It's not crapware. All Androids had some sort of office file readers.
HTC Androids (including Nexus One) had QuickOffice. Samsung Androids (Including Nexus S) uses ThinkFree. Both are free versions and there are full paid versions on the Market.
It's inside the /system/app/ like mentioned. So it does NOT use user available install space.

Yep thats all crapware especially touchwiz. Thats why people buy the nexus s. If you like it cool go to a touchwiz forum and have fun.

call me crazy but I don't think touchwiz is crap. Samsung actually did some cool things with it. I like how the notification panel has a power control widget integrated into it. Also the built in codec support is nice as well.
This is based on playing with touchwiz 3.0 for like five minutes lol.
pretty much anything that you didnt download and isnt included in vanilla android is crapware.
what's all the fuss about such a nice app?
if you don't like it, just uninstall it with Titanium Backup

Threaded Group SMS!?

Can someone with the One X comment on whether or not the device supports threaded group SMS w/ iPhone and Blackberry users? My biggest gripe with the Galaxy Nexus was that when I received group SMS messages, it wouldn't show the group and threaded responses. Instead, it showed separate messages for each response from each user. Coming from an iPhone, this is a must have feature for me and I wanted to know if the One X supported it. Thanks.
If it doesn't there is an SMS app you can get that supports threaded group chat. Not sure of the name, but it's out there.

I'm concerned, I'm coming from a blackberry and I use that function all the time. My One X is on order so if it doesn't, I'm SOL already haha
I sent out a massive group text when I got my phone to inform everyone of my new number, but the responses came back in their own threads.
It's not something I would utilize very often, so I'm not too concerned about finding an app to do it. I'm pretty happy with the stock Messaging app aside from this.

Thanks for letting me know about this. Just to confirm, there are no options to turn Group SMS (or MMS) on in the settings of the messaging app? I currently have many group chats with work colleagues as well as personal friends and this might be a deal killer for me (unfortunately).
Received messages go in their own threads, I've been looking in the settings and don't see a way to change that so far.
If your group consists solely of smartphone users, why not use whatsapp?

We used to but since everyone switch to the iPhone and Blackberry there has been no reason to. I'll be the first one in the "groups" to switch to Android and not having this basic functionality sucks. Even dumb phones are able to do this nowadays so I'm pretty disappointed.

Problem with GroupMe is that if someone had once installed the app and then subsequently deleted it, the app doesn't recognize that and fails to send them the message. Unfortunately, most people I know have at some time or another, used GroupMe and then gotten rid of it.

This is by far the most infuriating part of this phone.. My three year old BlackBerry supported group chat, but my top of the line android phone has to use a third party app that stumbles, doesn't send, triple sends, and is so freaking ugly. How hard can it be for someone to fix it so I don't have to have an app and can use the stock messaging program to talk with my friends.

OH Jeeeeez. I finally switched over from my iPhone 4S... because ICS and the One XL seemed to finally have come up to par with Apple's platform. Love the lightning fast LTE, the camera is only marginally worse than the 4S (close though)... and the screen is gorgeous on the XL! HOWEVER... I get a lot of group texts from my foodie friends with pics of food, or whatever... and actually... this situation with the inability to deal with those texts is almost a deal breaker for me! I had no idea ICS hadn't dealt with that yet... and worse... even HTC hasn't been able to recognize and address that shortcoming with all their coding expertise either? Yikes... I'm either going to have to go back to the 4S, or deal with a flagship phone that fails on a very basic requirement in 2012...

Okay everybody... check this out. I was looking for a way to get Visual Voicemail working on my One XL... and ran into a dead end. Finally got in touch with a helpful ATT "Advanced Tech Support" guy (after being forwarded from standard tech support)... and he directed me not to the AT&T Visual Voicemail app that is not compatible with the One X... but he says the AT&T Messages app is the one I need. So I installed it... and not only does it work very well for visual voicemail on the One X... the SMS/MMS feature of the app ACTUALLY THREADS GROUP SMS/MMS !!!! And pretty well too.
I've only had it installed about a half hour... but if it's not too buggy... I think this App not only solves the Visual Voicemail issue... but also potentially the SMS/MMS group threading problem. It won't have tons of features for power users (not very customizable... unfortunately)... but for those of us who NEEDED threaded group texts... we may be all set.
Linky below...
(Update: I was not able to post the link because I'm new to the forum... just search for "AT&T Messages" in the Android store.)

Where are Google accounts stored in 7.0?

Seems like Google has changed how accounts are stored on the phone in 7.0. Backing up "Accounts" in Titanium Backup, which backs up accounts.db, no longer works. Seems that accounts.db no longer exists.
Anyone know where Google accounts are stored on the phone in 7.0?

That will never completely happen. Open source is seen as a security threat to many companies. BB is dieing off and will soon be a software only company. Apple will always have a place due to their security as well as most people prefer something that just works. I cant say I blame them as I have thought about it myself and you would be amazed at how many Android devs use an Iphone as their daily device.

File location
I stumbled across this thread during my search, but while I found the answer somewhere else maybe it could help the next lost soul on it's search for revelation:
On Android 7, the accounts.db are now located on
/data/system_de/0/accounts_de.db And
/data/system_ce/0/accounts_ce.db
You'll need to copy both of the files to your new device, it worked for the most accounts. The only account I had to reconfigure was my email exchange
