Mplayer is nice
Act 1 video player is pretty good. Pause and play with a tap of the screen and ff or rw by sliding your finger forward or backwards. full screen works great on the nexus.
Personally I just use the built in media player, works in fullscreen and gets the job done just fine.

Ok I give, where is this video media player? what is the app name on the N1?
if your movie isnt playing in full screen, then you didnt encode the movie to the correct resolution. encode your movies whether they be rips or mkv's, make sure you encode at 800x480 mp4, 24fps, AAC 96, good to go. if you have no idea what i'm talking about, then do more reading

It's called "Gallery." Your videos are listed alongside your pictures. Or choose a video with any file browser.

Yeah, I should've mentioned where it was, not exactly intuitive in my opinion. As carnegie0107 says it's the gallery app. I had actually installed Act 1 Trial because I couldn't find the built-in one and when I launched a video file from a file browser it asked if I wanted to open it in Gallery so I gave it a go and it worked like a charm. So no need to spend money on a video player unless it adds support for more codecs
Act1 is great. I had a 640*480 video that needed to be stretched to the full 800 pixels for proper viewing and Act1's full screen mode did the trick. It also shows battery level and time without being obtrusive and has quick access to brightness controls.

No. It doesn't work. I hope it has a video player like apple's. After click a key, the picture will be stretched at top and bottom. The left and right side will be cut a little. Note screen is 1280*800, but the 720p is 1280*720. if have this, it will be full screen.
Try MX Video Player it has extra codecs and such. Runs fullscreen, easier fast forward and rewind.

Tried all five codecs, I think the 'crop' mode should work, but it's same as full screen, there has a problem.

Hello
I got my Topaz for some time now, but i am wondering wheter i can use the video player from the "photos and videos" tab for everything.
I just can use it for selfmade videos and the sample which was on the phone.
I just like the design, thats why i am asking.
i tested coreplayer and vlc but both of them were really laggy.
windows mediaplayer is simply ugly.
Is there any way for using this player?
Jenson
Simply convert your video to mp4 format and your set. I recommend DVD Catalyst 3 it cost only about 10$ and can convert almost any format ready to play on your topaz. There are predefined settings for almost all devices and the list gets updated.
ok thats simple
I will try that out.
thanks for your help.

You shouldn't have to pay for an app. Here's one originally from the Touch HD forum:

double-tap the screen? And if they don't stretch out on the whole screen, then I would not like to see it fitting the whole screen. Since then it would look all pixelated and ****.
Yxflash can play most video files. I think that Meridian might stretch them out, like you want. I am not quite sure tho, since I convert them so that they fit the screen.
I gotta agree there.. Yxflash does play other types compared to others such as avi/divx files! If you are after a basic player, I think there's one called act 1 player..

Media Go - Skyfire
I found that the SONY Media Go application can practically convert anything even old copy protected iTunes if you have DRM on your computer, If you are downloading off the phone browser try using Skyfire as this has built in video codecs for most video formats.

I think someone told me of one that you have to pay for a few weeks ago, but wondering if there is some free apps now. For the pc there is a bunch like VLC, Gom and KM player that play every video format. It would be nice to be able to take advantage of the hdmi output.

I didn't see it on the vlc website. Do you know where to find it? I did a search, but nothing came up. It did mention the ability to play files from your computer remotely, but that is streaming so it wouldn't be HD or great quality I imagine.

Same... there was one talked about for WM also, but never seen. Please share.
VLC hasn't been ported for Android yet.
That said, the guys that are releasing a PSX emulator and working on an Android N64 emulator, are supposedly going to working on porting VLC in their spare time. http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/04/playstation-emulator-coming-to-android-courtesy-of-yongzh-and-z/

I just installed yxplayer and it won't play a 1.4gb mkv file well at all. It is just a picture every few screens. Maybe the phone can't handle the file size, but my friend has an mkv player he got from china and it is bad a$$. It plays all file types and has mini hdmi out and I doubt it has a processor and ram as much as the evo. It's been out a lil while I'm sure. It has it's own screen but will output to an hd tv and looks just like you were playing a blue ray.
Probably thats the case... my mkvs were 640x480 anime shows. Havent tried anything hi-def...
On a side note, yxplayer is available as a trial only (2 min play time limit, tho some vids played for more and some reqlly did cut off after 2min), and if you wanna buy/pirate it - you won't be able to. The app for some dumb reason uses phone's imei for registration, which is gsm-only =O

Ok, so I'll wait for vlc, or another player to come out. Although I really won't need to play many movies on my phone. I will use my laptop if anything.
Dont forget about CorePlayer... they're working on a version for android as well. CorePlayer for winmo played mkv and nearly everything else I threw at it (performance on the other hand was a totally different subject, lol)
Any idea of a release date for Coreplayer? I've been converting my files for the longest time now but sometimes I don't get a chance to in the case of downloading a football match.
Its been in development for year(s) now, waiting for better NDK on android... Froyo seems to be exactly what they were missing so we should be seeing the app in few months, i hope...
Any one know how to view your library from within the stock video players widget? I can't find any button or menu that will allow you to see the contents of your video library. Alternately whats a good video player for a tablet to replace the stock one? I've tried Mixzing but its not made for tablets so it doesn't have a widescreen setting.

I have a couple file explorers but I want to see the library from within the player itself. There are forward and back buttons on either side of teh play button to move between videos but you can't see titles doing it this way. I have about 40 video files in my library and its impossible to tell which one I'm picking to play within the player.
edit: found moboplayer to use, it at least opens up to a decent library at start but doesn't have a widget. Going to switch to MX Player its a lot better but still no widget.
I'm not sure what you are looking for. In the stock video player I can choose any video that I want.
If I misunderstood, please let me know.

I have the stock music players widget on my desktop, when playing a movie I cannot select another one by name as their is no menu to access the library. So I guess the topic should have included the widget part. I update the op to reflect this thanks for your help.

Let try this first, how about save the qcp file to your local storage then use MX player to open it and see if you could see it with full screen and good qualtiy?
Edit: qcp is a compact video format for ringtone and such so don't expect too much about quality..

That's one of the first things I tried. MX Player doesn't even recognize the file. If I open MX Player, and choose the folder where I saved the video file, the file doesn't even show up. If I use ES File Explorer, I can see the video file where I saved it.

I installed ARM v7-Neon. I then manually added qcp to the files list, and now I can see the video file. It plays the audio, but there is no video, just a black screen. Am I the only person who gets iPhone videos, and can't play them?
Could it possible be the video file itself?
I kinda have the same problem, it drives me up the wall! The whole slideshow thing when someone sends a MMS with a text is annoying.
