Good Evening everyone,
Would very much appreciate if some expert could provide me an effective procedure for this "problem":
Besides an HTC, which i very much love, i also make use of the following equipment: a symbian Nokia E65. Now, this device, after whatever use, insists and demands for an answer to the question: «Do you want to block the keyboard?». And 1 objective answer is never enough: you touch the damn thing, you close the slide element and there it appears, again and again: «Blocking the Keyboard?».
And, most frequently, you have to click the "No" tab on the phone...
How can i get rid of this tiresome ritual?
Is there a feasible way??!
Enlight me please.
Regards,
H
Anybody home???

My sister has been asking me for a while to find her first electronic organizer, but knowing her I can't give something too techy and complicated. She will barely connect it to her PC very often.
Main requirements are : calendar, notes and I suppose contacts.
Camera is a plus.
Do you know of an "easy" girly phone, that is not too geek like most of the ones we have ?
like the equivalent of the Palm Zire for instance, these ones were just doing the basics if you didn't look behind the shell.
thanks.
Does she want WM5, Palm, Symbian? Does it need to have a phone and if so does it need to be 3G?
Maybe something like HP iPaq 1950?
It is a WM5 device but it's one of the basic ones, no phone / GPS / BT (has WIFI though).
It's pretty stable so no need for "tech" stuff if you only want to use it as an organizer and it is very compact.
Plus if she wants to add some games or something later that will work too.
Don't underestimate women. My beautiful wife (yes she dose read this forum ) has had XDAI, XDAII and atom. She is not very good with understanding how computers work but still manages to work all the features of ppc's. The main question would probably be the price. Here the HP version of the atom (I can't remember name) is probably the cheapest pda phone and its got all the features.
Well, I'm not sure about your sis, but as far as I know, girls look for looks on things they use. So, probably the Zire22 are small and girlish enough for her to use. I personally used both Palm and Windows PDA. In organiser wise, I find Palm's builtin PIM is better and clearer. However, unless you get the advance version of Palm PDA (eg TX), your sis maybe having problem with the handwriting 'mechanism'.
Anyway, for Windows based PDA, I think it is very basic anyway. You just key in the required field without the need to know other things. If you are to use the PIM without much of your personal requirement, you won't need to do things like reg hack And, I find that girls can seems to tolerate things that they don't know (eg, they hardly customize a PC, though they seems to like to customize a bf). The most they want to do is to make them look pink.
Ask your sis, which PDA she likes (eg the looks and size, and colour) and it may help you in choosing. Let her have a look on the PalmZ22, as I remember, there are `converted` wives with Z22. It doesn't have a camera though.

I agree with Hanmin
the look is more important,
I will check with her first of all.
I used a Palm for years before PPC and yes.. I forgot about the letter recognition :-(
thanks for your help guys !
if u want phone capibility and camera and ability to choose the colour of the device (it comes in white, red, orange, and silver) go with the upcoming treo 680.....its palmOS based though..
i think for a very basic user windows mobile is not good. for example activesync and hotsync......
Hum, in my mind the choice will be hard
Bring her in a shop and show her the main differences about capabilites, look and ... prices...
Sometime we want a very simple things but when we discover advanced features, we want ALL ! A geek is sleeping in all of us
Have a look at the o2 Stealth.
Just wondering, any updates on this? What is the one she chosen ?
Basically I wasn't overly impressed when I saw the iphone in terms of what it did, because it doesn't do anything my WM5 doesn't. the only thing I was impressed at was the interface, the total touch screen etc(altho it is missing a qwerty key board which I couldn't live with out). One part of the touch screen interface that I was the most impressed with was the finger dragging, scrolling! But this can be done on WM5 devices because I've already downloaded Sygic's .mobile which allows you to do it through your contacts.
So Basically I'm sure that one of the many clever programmers on here could write a little program that allows you to use finger scrolling where ever a scroll bar is needed? I.e. file emplorer, music menu(windows media player), text message list, photos, etc.
Or if someone knows where I could get such a program from?
Thanks
this would be sweet because we windows fans wouldn't have to convert to the darkside.
just like the early dayds of apple.....microsoft swoops in and reinvents the game. but only thing it aint microsoft doing this.
why buy a new phone when u can take the guts of it and dump it into your own
good job on the programers you guys rock.
Check this video out, the guy has done just that!
http://techdigest.tv/2007/02/watch_the_iphon.html
I've seen that video already, but thanks. it was that and the program .mobile that made me hope that someone on here would be able to do it for the rest of the windows mobile platform! if I was talented enough I'd do it myself but this is way beyond me. i just think it would be a great to be able to navigate menus and list and make life a lot easier.
Can we download it from somewhere?
Download What?
that GUI seen on that video.
the best program to make it look like that is wisbar desktop but it costs! has for the menu scrolling i haven't got a clue thats why i was hoping someone may be able to write a program on here for it

Agree, i used the wisbar advance, but the scrolling gui was amazing!
I am wondering how he did it?
it was, but i don't know how he did it! i know you can down load a program called .mobile and that allows you to scroll through your contact like that, so it clearly can be done! so someone must be able to do it for the rest of the phone?!??!
What is it that can or can't be done guys?
Picsel Browser uses momentum based full screen drag scrolling, amongst other apps. It's not a difficult thing to do. The implementation in the video is particularly nice (if not particularly useful IMHO), but it's not some kind of mystical voodoo. It's just programming.
V
vijay,
I don't think you would be capable of doing this, no way....
(ps: please, please rise to the challenge!)
On a serious note the Universal lacks a scroll wheel which I have always had on my previous PDAs. To be able to have a generic touchscreen based scrolling mechanism would be very useful (ie not just for tracks and contacts, but for everything).
Can anyone post a link to the download of this?
slider lock feature.....
Guys,
According to his website, before it was suspended...
He says he was using
PPL1.20. PPL which can be downloaded for free from http://arianesoft.ca
I downoaded this but have no idea on how to use it to get the same results?
Anyone interested in getting the slider lock portion of that video working?

As explained by Vijay this is just programming. If you dont have programming skills, just forget it. If you do then the technical part is not that difficult. The whole point is more about doinga nice design
Anyway let's hope he will make is work public (The scrolling bar is one thing, but the whole setup is actually nice...)
If anyone has this (doubt the guy gave it out before he got shut down) but in case he did... i would like to get my hands on this...
the point of me starting this thread was to see if anyone on here knew where I could get a program that would allow me to scroll all the menus and lists in my WM5 by dragging my finger across the screen, if there wasn't already a program out there then I wondered if someone could write a program for it? as my skills in this area are nowhere near good enough! I think a program like this with look great but more importantly be really useful, as I use my finger to navigate through most of my phone.
if this is just programing, please can someone with the skills do it????
Thanks
the m600-iphone clon demovideo is no longer available at youtube....
the apple tentacles are very lengths...
INTERESTINGLY.. this guy is a Malaysian (Chinese). . and I would have thought such geeky move ought to be from the States.
well i have a spare wizard to try this on if some one can direct me on what software to use. i have some spare time lol
I'm trying to make HTC realize they have a bug in their Touch Keyboard/XT9 but they're driving me around the bend.
1st report I made never got further than auto-generated receipt mails and then it just died - radio silence.
2nd report I made has now gone to the "beating around the bush" state; where they either try to stall it or send me info of how to almost "work around" that I have mailed them myself in the original report. They have not yet acknowledged that there's an error.
I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with the HTC Support?
Is this the normal behaviour? Has anyone gotten something out of reporting an error to them?
Just trying to figure out if I may expect something to come out of it.
That is standard behaviour for ANY IT support, of any kind
Please, IT support people, don't take offense - of course there are always exceptions and after all, my own company is in this business too The point I'm making is that this kind of evasive non-support is fast becoming the rule rather than the exception. Too bad for us, the losers, I mean the users.
hmm
As an indendent software developer (for 17 years) I can only imagine how fast I'd be out of business if I responded in this way to my customers!!
... but then, of course, I don't have places like xda-developers to "do my support for me". HTC should send kisses and "device of your pick" to these people who are so enthusiastic and helpful, cause if we imagine that HTC was the only place to go, I think people would get tired with their service pretty fast.
Besides, there are a lot of IT related companies that offer much better respons - even Microsoft is better! TomTom is better, the developers of various freeware ppc-apps are better, Oracle is better.... I could go on.
Think of it this way: In Denmark a Cruise is 4400 DKR (~ 880 USD or 587 EUR) without TomTom or anything - just out-of-the-box. I think that's quite a bit, so you don't expect to be left on "your own" if you find errors in it.
To type one Danish letter (one out three Danish letters doesn't work right because of the Touch Keyboard XT9) you need 8 tappings if you want to use word completion and the on-screen keyboard:
1. select the Touch Keyboard,
2. disable XT9,
3. return to the on-screen keyboard,
4. type the letter,
5. select the Touch Keyboard,
6+7. enable XT9 (needs 2 tappings),
8. return to the on-screen keyboard,
...continue typing until you need to type the next not-working-letter.
Google for this letter and you get 94.100.000 hits. Not entirely irrelevant and I call it an error.
Another experience with HTC Support
I was asking HTC which files to use on the HTC Application CD delivered with the phone. There are two files seemingly related to backup: P3650_BackupTool_5.1.0.b1450_HTC_WWE_20071102.exe and SpriteBackupEnglishPersonalSetup.exe file.
It doesn't say in the manual which one, but just: "Insert the Application Disc on your computer's CD or DVD drive and install Sprite Backup to your device".
The answer from HTC is, quote: "Many tanks for contact us. To respond about your query, I am so sorry but we do not support this informations, you have to ask at the official web site of sprite backup"
I wonder how much Sprite knows about the HTC Cd....
I have never during 25 years in software business encountered such bad support from any company! I'm beginning to doubt if the people who receive support mails understand much English.
Hi all,
I'm pretty new to this forum and it's my first post. I'am also not an english speaker so I'll try to make myself as clear as possible (also hope I'm in the good section).
I recently acquired an Airis T483 smartphone, running WM6.1 (very unknown smartphone, I don't even find a link to show you its charasteristics...).
Anyway, I (and users using this phone) are having a big issue, and the Airis Company doesn't want to help us.
Basically, the phone volume is really really slow. Even with all volume indicators at their max, we almost can't use the phone because we merely can hear the person calling... This is so annoying, because our first use is off course to be able to use it as a phone. And for now we HAVE to use earphones to hear correctly.
We contacted the company Airis and their support and they are saying that the volume is correct and it corresponds to the standards... They keep up saying they are not modifying firmaware and can just replace our phone with identical ones...
So this is my question : Is it possible to find a software (or even write one) that can add "gain" to the volume level (I mean that can increase the volume, even when actually it's on 100%). So we can hear when we are using the phone.
Note : use of the speakerphone is excluded for privacy reasons...
I (and not only me) will be eternally grateful to anyone who could help us, even by pointing us to something we could maybe develop (we have basic knowledge and skills in programming).
Thank you all

Thank you for the links, but it's not working for me. I explain :
These threads are about the SRS WOW app that could effectively be a solution for me. I had a hard time with this software so I'm going to tell you what happenned :
- First you have to find the good version of SRS WOW HD for PPC with WM6.1 to have it "install" correctly. For me it was the version 1.21 found on one of the links you gave me. It's the only that installed correctly and I was able without a load error like 'ERROR : driver missing'....
- Then, my phone was silent (which was predictable according to the posts of guys who tried it with WM 6.1).
- I did the registry tweaks but it did not work. I placed correctly the old values in the right keys etc... but the phone keeps silent. Hopefully by uninstalling the program everything goes back to normal. I went through all night reading about this and it appears that the soft has compatibility issues with WM6.1 and some smartphone or PPCs (by the way, I know it's a dumb question, but have I a smartphone or a PPC ??? I'm kind of lost :s )
So, at the end, I still don't have found a solution. Pleease I'm beging... Help me find a way, don't do the work at my place, just point me somewhere to look for if you could.
I'm ready to develop something, I'm ready to give specs about my phone (BTW I discovered in the device database that it has Mono sound, not stereo... is that relevant ?), I'm ready to give a dump of the registry and look into it with help of someone... anything that could help.
If you have even just a thought, a lead, please share it. Thank you very much.
P.S : During this long night i found an application called "Audio Gain Tweaker", sounds like a dream... but only compatible with... HTC phones !!! So if someone of you guys needs a gain, he knows where to start searching
Ok, it's definitely a PPC, I got the difference now.
Regarding my problem, anyone has a clue ? What should I do, I mean can I post this thread to the Development and hacking section ???
Up ???????
I did a quick search and couldn't really find any specifics about your phone... try this program... again its made for hTC but is worth a try...

Thanks for your help, but it's same as last answer. This tweak is about a file called AudioPara3.csv which in HTC phones is situated in the windows folder. The goal is to replace it by the tweaked one, but I don't have such file in my phone and placing it into windows folder doesn't change anything ! (I tried off course...)
What do you think I should do ? Contact dev and hacking section ? Is there anyone who can help me finding relevant keys with a dump of my registry ???
Hi guys,
I am probably going to ditch my iPhone 3gs later this year and return to a contract HTC phone (UK).
I am now so out of being 'up to date' and informed it's not true!
To cap it all I've suggested my boss gets one too. That may land me in the murky mire....
Can you guys suggest one of them - that you've personal experience of - not one 'that you've heard about'??
OK so My key priorities are for an HTC with large screen, large letters when needed, good video and excellent audio.
I'm using Windows 7. I need for the phone to Log in remotely to this and a few PC's by Logmein or VNC.
I would also add MS Office too, because its useful on the go, but I dont know whether the Android variants can create/edit/save exactly the same.
Do I need to start again with 2010 apps? ....... If I have to let go of my old 2002 apps, iTunes, etc., so be it, but maybe there's a way to keep ??? ..is there? ...
My boss's needs are simpler. Easy to use phone, Email on the hoof, Log in to a few PC's by Logmein or VNC. His phone can be smaller than mine.
What are you guys happy with - that might float my boat?
Thanks in advance
Anne
