[TORRENT] Eugene373's AOSP 2.4 - Eclair ROM on Bittorrent - G1 Android Development

To moderators: Where should I put / start a thread announcing torrent/ magnet link availability of a ROM?
I'm seeing posts in the forums from people having trouble with the various filesharing sites. I've had some time-wasting grief there myself in recent days with some the ROMs.
For anyone tired of the speed-choking fileshare sites (like...they slow down....and then stop completely 43MB into a 45MB file), I'm seeding this ROM on bittorrent.
Caveat: My uplink is only 110KBytes/second, but if several people download then seed these files, the cumulative transfer rate should be nice and quick....
The primary torrent is here: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5286019
If you don't like The Pirate Bay for some reason, then Google "AOSP24.zip" and "torrent". Most other torrent sites pick up a new torrent from any other torrent site within 24 hours.
If Pirate bay is down or blocked, then here is the DHT Magnet Link, Cut / paste it into your bittorrent client. You don't need the torrent file.
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:xumhprzuxjc3ge4xjlondzwt47ztmt p3&dn=AOSP24.zip&tr=http%3A%2F%2Ftracker.openbittorrent.com%2Fannounce
(There are two extraneous spaces in this magnet link (between "mt p3" and "bitto re", XDA's editor did it...I've tried to remove them).

Good idea. Torrents can be good LOL.
I think you should probably still upload to places like mediafire. Just cause torrents need seeders and when you run out it sux.

I know what you mean! I *hate* that!
I leave a torrent up until a torrent hasn't been touched for 3/4 weeks. Then I take it down on the basis no one wants it.
These files have limited shelf-life. In a month few people will want THIS file. They'll be on to the next one.

I would find a less dodgy link to be honest mate.
If it had not been thorugh thepiratebay's trackers I would have helped you seed for a while.

Eugene373 AOSP 2.4 - Eclair ROM

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589344 Soooo.. Why would we need a torrent when the rom itself is 2 posts up? Also.. Me thinks eugene, who barley bothers with these whiny forums, isnt gonna be to happy about a torrent link for his rom.

very fast, just downloaded at 700k/s.

meh, no reason to complain about it being torrented... although I would just give the magnet link, as linking to piratebay.org is probably not kosher, as they obviously have pirated material too... I'm not even using that rom, but gonna seed 30:1

As far as I know, openbittorrent.com isn't a "pirate bay" tracker. It's just a tracker. Not sure it matters.
Pirate Bay is just a convenient site to load the torrent onto. *This* content isn't pirated and I don't care about anyone else's.
If you google "aosp24.zip" and "torrent", within 24 hours most of other torrent sites will have picked up the torrent.

AndroidSPIN FAST Direct Download
I've placed a mirror of this ROM on AndroidSPIN as I see people are having issues downloading from 4shared.
Head here to download Eugene Eclair 2.4.
Enjoy.

Get your Seed on, lol.....

androidspin ftw!!
the forums are kinda inactive tho...

I'll be seeding, I prefer a speedy torrent over those filesharing sites any day of the week.

why would you put it in a torrent? why not put it on a filehosting site?

i prefer bittorent. it has every file in one link. plus allot of hosting sites pull links. mainly put this up since the htc recovery is down. I figured there were seeders like me that just prefer distributed hosting like bittorent. I rarely see torrent links so i figured id stop asking for one and create one. this way you wont be subject to the adds and tricks of file hosts i guess. but most of us probably use adblock any way.
well im trying to download the torrent and it is reeeaallly slow. Thats why people don't use torrent man. They require many seeders...

yeah at first. im the only 100% seed, but as the swarm goes it can get much faster. i max my downstream with torrents on private trackers that have fat swarms
Mediafire.com is the best.
Sorry off topic but 2girls1cup is EEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!
i thought BFS in unstable compare to CFS?
how about once someone gets it downloaded they return the favor by uplaoding to a file sharing site. This way people could decide whats best for them.
i don't even know how to dowload a torrent lol. i really need the htc 1.6 recovery image. ugh!

You have to remember this Ahronzombi is the one who does these things to everyone else
But enough with that someone should start seeding, it's going WAY too slow.
Boo for torrent distribution, these files are SMALL, just host them somewhere. If they were >200mb then it might make sense, but its just a waste of time and resources for a ~60mb file
Also, there are TONS of builds that just bunch together Cyanogen and some extra stuff, this is totally unnecessary, imo
6 seeds so far. ive uploaded about 5 times over so far. the swarm speed should be better now.

I disagree. While I was waiting for 4.2.8 to download from a mirror onto my phone at a blazing ~100 KB/sec, I was thinking, if the cmupdate used a lightweight bittorrent client, it might just be faster.

yeah bittorent can be fast especially with the number of people who use this mod. would be nice if cm updater seeded
if cyan's server on
http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/
seeded, and he distributed his updates via torrents as well, we could get a massive swarm every time he releases.
initial downloads could be handled by his server and after enough people have the file, the swarm can take care of the rest
that would be great! getting +500kb/s on these updates ;D
I upped to RS
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/320524137/CM4.2.8.rar
Thanks to all the seeders. If someone could upload this to real hosting not any shotty wait and click service like rapid share, then I could take the direct link and add it to the torrent as a web seed.

ROM makers: Want a different host for your files?

For the last 6 months I've been hosting files for developers in the Eris section. I made the site to people wouldn't have to use all that MultiUpload crap, got sick of the waiting 60 seconds to download a file, entering a verification code, etc etc.
Anyways, the site's worked well. You can direct link to your files, upload everything via a simple web interface.
I just thought I'd offer the site to developers in other forums now.
http://android.grdlock.net
Anyways, if you're interested in using it to host your files, just make a username on the site real quick, shoot me a PM, and I'll give it upload permissions.
And no, this isn't an advertisement or anything. People in the Eris section have just liked using the website over MultiUpload, so I thought I'd offer to let other people use my bandwidth as well.

Sent from my phone... I think useing Tapatalk?

Just thought I'd offer my hosting to Hero users

As I typed this thread title I saw there's been two other posts in the last month or so about this, but oh well.
I've been hosting many various ROM's and kitchens for other phones for 7 or 8 months now. I know there's quite a big Hero following as well, so I just thought I'd throw it out there if anyone would like to host their files on my site instead of MultiUpload junk.
Anyways, site's in the sig, my email addy to get upload access is on the site. The whole site is setup just for hosting rom's. Uploading is really simple, etc. Plenty of speed (I max out my 30mbps connection at home whenever I download something from it myself), plenty of space, etc.
Mods: This isn't an advertisement for a site that would compete with XDA, it's solely a file host. I've already had approval in other phone sections. Just an FYI.

I'm betting if the email address is to his host then its because the DNS changes havent went into effect fully..
Yeah that's probably correct. I just moved to a better host over the weekend, so it's possible some smaller ISP's or mail servers still don't have the updated DNS records I suppose. If you want upload permissions feel free to send me a PM instead for the time being.
Whoops, nope, I broke my mail server when I changed a few settings yesterday apparently, and didn't realize it! lol... fixed now.

how about... torrent?

How many times you opened a mediafire/megaupload/any other uploading site and had to wait many many hours to download something as a free user, and then, maybe when you just are above 90%, it just interrupts?
well, **** happens, we all know that, and the main problem is that storage sites don't allow the use of a download manager. And that becomes a problem when the site you're referring to caps the download speed at like 20-25 KB/s and you're downloading a very large file.
So i was thinking, couldn't it become a forum rule, or at least something strongly adviced, to post a torrent link for large files, let's say larger than 150MB?
I mean, we all are REALLY grateful to people who make all the tinkering possible, who provide us with blazing fast and stable ROMs or with nice apps, but sometimes it gets frustrating to download from those sites! Maybe posting a torrent link wouldn't cost them much, it's just a couple of minutes task and it could get very useful!
Thank you very much!
Hmm.... guess I don't see a problem with that...
you want something for free and you want the person offering up the item that is free to pay for fast downloading ???............ clueless and inconsiderate....

I remember writing an email to XDa about that way back in 2006,they said theyd look into it. Of course, back then there were lawsuits against the owners of the torrent sites. that shouldnt have been a problem for people distributing Roms since they didn't have copyright. We have plenty of seeders so the downloads will be fast and reliable.
.
Torrents are normally associated with warez
Thread closed
If anything to discuss please PM me
If torrents are used to post ROMS which don't contain warez of ANY SORT, it would be acceptable. If Any chef is interested in doing that they can take permission and get verified by a moerator/admin and post the link - but on a trusted torrent host.
Thread remains closed as we do not encourage discussion or use or torrens ( which we all know are majorly associated with WAREZ/pirated things ).

[Q] Would you use torrent downloads for roms?

I am thinking of setting up torrents for some of our amazing ROM's to give people another way to download which in theory could be ALOT faster than any of the direct download services Devs use at the moment.
If your a dev and think this is a great idea and want me to start a torrent for your ROM PM me or post here!
If your not sure what a torrent or torrenting is check out the good old wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)
After all, most if not all good Linux distros offer a torrent why shouldnt android ROMS
I would love to! But i think it would only be worth it for more popular ROMs.

I use torrents a lot!
The beauty of torrent is the ability to verify files being downloaded. It just might end the problem of file corruption during download ....
Probably one of the best ideas for exchanging ROMs. I hope that the rest of the devs will do the same.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
I would, but only for popular ROMs which would have more seeders. Torrents can't be used for ROMs which aren't so popular as it would result in slow downloads. Besides, torrents are much faster and no need to "Wait 60 seconds or go premium" or writing Capatchas.
This can be a solution. The only problem I see is keeping the latest version of a rom. Since lots of people may not be able to read posts it can be a lot of work for the devs to keep their opening posts updated with the latest sources.
This may not be such a big problem here in the DS forum since we are not so many (sadly the DS is not one of HTCs bestsellers) - but imagine the bashing if some don't read the latest torrent written two posts before.
Nevertheless, torrents can help, but I agree only for popular roms.
Agree completely, but yes, we need seeders....
Also the attitude of the people out here, if you download, seed it back!!!!
My main concern is speed, has to be at least 100kb/s, thus seeders are going to be a concern.
Thanks for all the replys, ok then so what ROM's do you think we should do to start with?
Definitely primo and ice cold sandwich
Swyped from my HTC Desire S....
I agree this is a good idea but unless someone has a seedbox which can seed round the clock 24/7 I can't see it working because most people won't seed back thus another dead torrent.

Well I have created the page in the dev section with the links here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559247
And my laptop for all new torrents will be running at least solidly for a good few days, I do only have about 150kb/s upload so it will not be amazing fast to start with but will add new torrents once people have download the others etc.
SEED men SEED!!!
@zacthespack
What would also be awesome if it can also be uploaded to Usenet.
Also it must be a split file with par2 files.
I have dedicated seedbox and 100 Mbit FTH line. Will look at this later if there is a need.

Once my seedbox sorts itself out mine will be used for this to, over the day I have had quite a few hits so it looks like people really are interested.
More seedboxs the better, check out the dev thread on it for the torrents running at the mo, once my seedbox is working I shall do many many more
Torrents might be a good idea for the latest ROMs but the older (maybe more stable once) will have lower seeds IMHO.
Anyway, my laptop (office equipment) dsnt allow me to use torrents on any network.
Personally I wouldn't. I DL ROMs directly from my phone, and I don't know how to use torrents on my PC anyway
I don't mind if the dev includes a torrent, as long as they include a regular DL aswell.

Well yes I think the devs should still give a normal link, but so many complain of slow downloads etc a torrent option would give them something else to use
(plus it is very easy to use torrents and there are torrent clients for android even)

It's a good idea with torrents.
I've already used torrents provided CM mirror network for sharing.
