Question about unlocked phones and changing networks - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Can someone explain why it I've heard that if you take an unlocked AT&T phone like the Fuze to T-Mobile or another provider, that you won't get full 3G data speeds like you do on AT&T? Isn't an unlocked phone "fully" unlocked? What would prevent data from operating at it's fullest?
Thank you! Trying to look online to find a site that will explain this and I'm not getting anywhere.

in usa it depend on what 3g band the provider use vs. what 3g band the phone have
elsewhere it would work 100% as only usa use alternative 3g bands

Fuze use in Germany

Hello everyone. I recently moved to Germany from the US and had my Fuze SIM unlocked. Well today I went to a T-mobile kiosk and the rep told me that I can use the phone for regular phone service with no problems but he didn't think that the US spec Fuze would work on the Internet with their data plan? Does anyone know if this is true? Why would it not work? Does T-mobile in Germany use a different band for Internet that the US Fuze doesn't support? Any information that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Murnutz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_frequency_bands#GSM_frequency_usage_in_Europe
for normal gsm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
for umts (3g)
and of cause if you got a non gsm device like a simcardless cmda phone == nowhere
itll work fine for phone and data up to 2g. if you want 3g check if it can do international bands or just us ones.

Unlocked Us Cellular phone to WU but wont work on At&t network

I unlocked my us cellular phone and now when i try to use it with ar&t i cant use the internet while im on the phone or find an at&t rom so i can use programs at&t offer can anyone help and i dont see a G next to to atenna just an E
Us cellular
So is it possible then to use the touch pro 2 from us cellular on a gsm network?
Thanks
yea it is but you wont be able to use a lot of features i believe ive been looking around for answers and asking ppl but no one seems to have anything to say
interesting. so what are the features i wont be able to use??
1) The US Cellular TP2 likely only supports the Euro 3G frequencies. As a result you will only get EDGE (indicated by the E) when on GSM in the US, not 3G.
2) If you want to use the Internet on ATT, you need to configure the ATT data settings (and of course pay for data) the same as you would with any unlocked/unbranded GSM phone. The settings can be found on the ATT site.
3) The US Cellular phone can run any WinMo programs that you install on it. You don't need a specific ROM.
To claim you "won't be able to use a lot of features" is incorrect.
???
I am living in Jamaica so can the us cellular touch pro 2 be used here on a Gsm network with/ without being unlocked? thanks
yes it will make call and answer but internet you need to set it up
in costa rica it works but internet does not work
wow. i have been dealing with a very similar issue.
i am using a US Cellular TP2 on AT&T, Sim unlocked and security unlocked with the radio provided by Olinex. radio version2.32.00WU. see signature.
i am using an Energy CDMA rom, and i have internet, but i have been searching for some sort of settings to get 3G. as of now i am stuck with the E, or edge data connection. i have changed all of my settings to match those of MEdia Net, but still no 3G.
Anyone have any info or suggestions?

Verizon S GS3 on Straight Talk

Hi all,
With Verizon releasing officially, the update making its SGS3 Global ready atleast for voice as of now, a lot of discussion is happening right now about the Global capabilities.
FYI. I'm a good reader and explorer on hofo, androidforums and xda. So any guidance is highly appreciated
So here is my question.
I have a Verizon S GS3. It is brand new.
1. Can I use it with Straight Talk T-Mobile SIM ( T-Mobile has good coverage near my house ) after doing the rooting, unlocking, etc. etc all the technical stuff
2. If I unlock the phone, will it be truly global capable, I mean, can I use my S GS3 on any GSM Network in the World, even in the USA, with 3G Speeds? Did anyone use it in any Country with 4G LTE Speeds?
3. I know this is really a very very strange question. But after unlocking the S GS3, will it be working on the AT&T LTE Netowrk in the USA? My thinking is, if it working in the LTE Network in the USA, then it will work in other countries as well, where LTE Network is going to be available in the future. Sorry, I know this is a bit weird.
If You can please refer and threads or links, it is fine with me. I'm also looking and not depending only on the answers that I get from this thread. But looking for replies/guidance/links though.
Thank You.
hope this is the answers you are looking for

for Q1:yes you well be able to use any network... install any mod now most of them are already rooted and unlocked
for Q2:yes you can... all you need to ddo is to download a program called hiapn.. wipe the existing apn settings.. then auto detect and you are good to go 3g and hspa
Q3: yes it works thanks to the magic of hiapn software... but not many countrys use LTE .. usa canada japan and maybe few others
Verizon SGS3 on any GSM Carrier
Hi experts,
I have a small doubt here.
If the Verizon SGS3 can be used with any GSM Carrier around the world, then that means, the Verizon SGS3 can be used with AT&T or T-Mobile as well along with Verizon Network.
But the T-Mobile or AT&T Versions cannot be used on the Verizon's Network. Is that true?
I'm have got a traveling assignment coming up to Europe this Summer and I need to know what is the best possible solution out there before I leave.
Thank You.
Verizon's GS3 uses CDMA technology for the phone calling and data, as far as I know the SIM in the verizon version is only used for LTE.
From what I have read in forum posts, (this one in particular http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013647) if you pop in a SIM card, calling and texting should work. If you want data to work then you need to change some APNs around. Stock touchwiz does not allow this so you would need an app to do that. AOSP ROMs should have a way for you to edit APNs.
On the topic of getting 4G on any other network besides Verizon, that is fairly unlikely as they all use different technologies/ bands. Verizon has LTE, T-Mobile has HSPA+, not entirely sure what AT&T has but I think its also LTE.
This phone will take any SIM card cut to micro-size.
3G+ speeds depends on the frequency the carrier uses. The VZW GS3 uses the following radio frequencies after the JB update: GPRS/EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900); HSPA/UMTS (2100) [I had to search high and low to find this for my trip to China]
Each LTE carrier uses different radio frequencies, and global countries also use LTE frequencies different than the US ones. 4G is a very varied standard at the moment.
If you want fast internet on a non VZW carrier, it better have HSPA+, otherwise you are on 3G at best.
Right now, the only truely global phone is the iPhone5 on VZW, which supports 5 different LTE frequencies. Sad but true.
The US based SG3's dont even have the FM radio that the international versions have

Yeah, my girlfriend has a verizon s3 and with straight talk she is only on edge it never changes. It makes the phone nearly useless. Ive tried to talk her into letting me flash and unlock it but she isnt real interested in it. I dont even know forsure if unlocking the bootloader downgrading to 4.1.1 and using the att sim unlock method would work but I would assume that flashing it would allow you to at least get 3-4g. not?

global GSM vs US GSM version on tmobile

1) i'm confused as to which one to get. i'm on the tmobile $30 prepaid plan with unlimited data. If i get global GSm version, would i still be able to use my 3g data? If i get the U.S gsm version instead, if i travel outside the U.S, does this mean that prepaid 3g plans on other countries won't work on this phone? i'm confused and need help on which on to get since i want the phone to work with tmobile 3g data while in the U.S but also work when with other data plans in other countries i travel.
2) i got another question, lets say i don't care about using Data and accessing the internet. In which case, does it really matter if i get the global GSM or US gsm if i live in the U.S? i would still the the same signal strength just for talking and texting right?

There was another thread that talked about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48104955&postcount=22
The conclusion was if you are on T-Mobile to go with the US version. You can see the map where the 1700 band is used in the US too.

[Q] Can an unlocked Pantech Discover (AT&T brand) use 4G lte data on another service?

[Q] Can an unlocked Pantech Discover (AT&T brand) use 4G lte data on another service?
Can an unlocked Pantech Discover (AT&T brand) use 4G lte data on another service? I know it has the correct network ability (LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100) to work at 4G lte speeds on AT&T network, but I want to know if it will work while unlocked on T Mobile (that has the same requirements). The network abilities are confirmed compatible, and is not the question, will it reach the same speed even though it is not made for the carrier (T mobile in this case). I would love to find out before I spend the money to buy it brand new and unlocked, only to see if it will work or not. And if not, I have wasted the money. I have heard that this will not work, or might now that things have changed (No real help, and makes my more cautious).
Reading everything on the internet I can find. So far I've found the conflicting answers that:
1) As long as it has the network ability, then yes.
2) No unlocked phone will reach above EDGE speeds on another carrier. (May by very outdated, but can't confirm)
3) That might not be correct, unlocked phones will not, normally, work correctly on other networks.
4) It works 100%
5) It can only reach 3G
After several calls I've found out:
1) T mobile says:
a) Should work.
b) No idea.
c) Since it has the network ability to use 4G lte with our network, it should, but I don't know.
2) Pantech
a) Just try it.
b) I think so, but I don't know.
3) AT&T (the phone is made for and sold by them)
a) Unlocking will not limit the phone.
Is "No unlocked phone will reach above EDGE speeds on another carrier" just a myth now since "Things has changed" (what ever that means)?

T-Mobile has different LTE speeds depending on the area you live. In southern California T-Mobile's LTE is a little faster than ATT. Since both are GSM you will definitely have 3G, if on that phone HSPA+, but not sure on LTE. I was thinking that ATT and TMobile had LTE on different frequencies as they do not use the same towers etc.
