Dialer Skin for HD2 - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

I can find some dialer skin in this forum, but only very limited in design aspect, wonder developer here can come out some more designs for the benefit of all, thanks...

Use Phonex, it's a complete dialler replacement but the best I have used. It's a lot better than HTC's offering. Try the demo.

I'm on the lookout for a new dialer too, but don't really want to pay that much for it, or just even a new look (colours) to the standard one, but can't find anything

PhonEx sucks:
PnonEx lacks one of the most basic functions, which is the ability (when using smart dial to search contacts) to find both first and last name matches. PhonEx (unlike every other dialer I used) can only searches Last trough names.
That is if I have John Smiths and Carl Johnson in my contacts.
If I dial numeric for for j-o-h (that is 5-6-4) it will only find Carl, but not John.
I don't think I am a special exception to remember some people by first name and some others by their last name. So I need search both ways.
I don't get when they haven't implemented a normal smart dial, almost all dialers have this. Including stock HTC and stock WM or even Resco dialer would find and list both names if I dial j-o-h. That is they search both first and last name fields in contacts.

Perhaps if you worked out how to use it properly you would realise it does indeed posses a smart dial and therefore doesn't "suck" at all. I have numerous people with 'John' as a christian name and two people with 'Johnson' as a surname. All of them are listed when I type j-o-h on the dialler (which is 5-6-4 on my phone - not sure where you got 5-6-6 from). Not only that, but it also displays any contacts that have 564 anywhere in their number.
Maybe you were using an older version, I suggest you try 2.2 before passing comment.

iContact-like Shortuct Launcher ?

Anybody know of an app like iContact/PocketCM but to launch program shortcuts instead of contact dialer ?
I would like to have a thumb scrollable list of all the programs etc that I use.
If not, are there any brave souls willing to take the iContact source code and some how make it run exe shortcuts rather than contact dialling ?
I found l3v5y's Scroll Launcher, its great and very similar to my request.. but its still a little lacking.. any other suggestions ?
go into the registry and edit it:
HKLM\software\microsoft\shell\rai
and go to :mscontacts and edit the string in "1" to equal the path for the program you wanted to launch

Not sure if you read my post, thanks for the random tip though
What I am looking for is an actual program that looks/feels like iContact, but launches shortcuts instead of dialling.
im interested too in such applikation, pm me pls, if you find some
I recommend mortbuttons. It's not exactly like icontact but it's very finger friendly. Besides, the blackaqua theme matches the glossy black bar very well.
why not use th Q n A section of the fourm???? funny thing is that i did a search n found many
PLEASE UES THE QnA UNLESS U HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER
most people come here to see whats new or get updates for programs being developed ...it is very anoying to see new post with nothing to offer
that's what people do in here. is can't be clearer than this, that the first thread in this forum is for questions and answers... since it says : QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS HERE! or something like that...
but people ignore this, ask questions here, and since others reply instead of directing them to the correct thread, they STILL ask questions in new pointless threads. human nature.
I posted there, with no response. I dunno, it seems to me in order to get any eyeballs on a question you have to start a new thread (sorry, I know this is against 'the rules') Besides, this is technically a dev/hacking question, and I'm contributing by generating interest in such an app. Since I've posted, l3v5y has come out of the woodwork to say he's beginning a rewrite of his launcher - plus I've contacted Tene and SupBro to ask about the possibility of forking their projects into a launcher rather than dialler.
@ dan0zone & nir36 : Thanks for the helpful advice.
Way to much of this going on... Hopefully this thread is just moved before it too becomes a mess.
I agree that such a launcher has potential. It would be kind of cool if it had support for groups/folders as well.
Personally, I'd like to see something that uses shortcuts and sub folders inside of a base folder as opposed to a built in browse for the app style of assigning things. It makes setting up extremely easy if you're using your desktop. I uderstand that they both have their ins and outs though.
It would be kind of cool if it could be developed in such a way as to employ the skins from whatever version of iContact you're running or it's own...
Also, how about a contextual menu option to jump to the apps root folder in either file explorer or TC? It would make editing the preference files in those apps which still require manual editing of .ini or .xml files MUCH easier.
Schap's already has something in the works, and PointUI also has this function as well. PointUI is the entire UI, not just the app launcher, and I haven't used it lately, but the scrolling was inverted last I used.

Nice link. I tried that one but it seems to be too battery draining for all day use, also not very customisable. I'm crossing my fingers that someone can just change iContact to make it launch apps instead. I'm learning C++ and gonna buy Visual Studio just for this project if no one else can ..

Well it doesn't scroll the way Schaps new menu will.
Put it does have page flicks from left toe right and RtL and UtD etc.
MortBottuns yes.
If people would have given this some more support and skins a few years ago it would maybe even have had scrolling support.
Best of all is it's highly configurable and aoollws for you to make submenu's.
Who knows what a few donations to Mort would do.
Cheerz,
The MortButtons Evangalist
Well, after a few days of hunting.. I've come to the conclusion that patiently sitting back and waiting for Schaps's incredible-looking TouchXperience launcher is the best option.
I've donated a bit, and encourage everyone else interested to do the same

New ROM

Which ROM would you guys like to see ported to the sapphire / magic platform?
Please post suggestions here.
I will get to work on these sometime at the end of this week. (after my exams)
is the sapphire any better than the g1?
I think 1st ROM should target the owners of the HTC Magic "by Vodafone" as many of us got it this way...
As said here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515074, btw.
We have some annoying limitations by being purely Google branded and not provided with HTC nice goodies ("Better KB, more Customization capabilities (Localization/Regional settings/KB layout split for ex.), MS Exchange, etc...).
The most annoying thing for me is that in the HTC Magic website you can see a cool dialer, we (vodafone) don't have it!
Let us not forget that the HTC rom has office document support as well...
So I'll agree with the lot, my priotity is to see the original HTC rom make it our way. There were a few people reporting they had it on this forum, would it help you if they provided you with a nandroid backup?
from your shhh build:

does the middle button along the bottom suggest shhh supports contact groups? that would be a cool feature to see come our way.

+1 but, with root access , is it possible to increase the HTC Magic speaker volume ? For me, its sounds so low when somebody is calling you. Anyway, i increase the mp3 volume with a program, but for me , it sounds low.
My opinion, nobrand build, multilanguage and more volume ( if this would be possible )
Thanks,
Regards.
i'll see if i can get my hands on a newer HTC Magic ROM (and there is a very good possibility of that)
If not i have a couple from a month or so ago, but still very usable.
I'll try my best to get you guys the best rom possible

Yes please Haykuro! Lots of people are waiting in little old Denmark...
English only is fine with me IF we can get more flexibility in settings side : Picking Country, Keyboard layout and Regional settings (clock, number format, etc...) on different menus.
As it seems possible with Asian FW / HTC variant (checking some screenshots shown) but quite limited into Vodafone ones (picking Country/Language combo once, => Keyboard layout selected by default).
the vodafone uk magic miss voice commands, handwriting recognition ,office documents and more. so i will like the HTC ROM or any other rom that will give back all this functions. i like the hero skin to.
I would actually to begin with be very happy with the original HTC rom updatable through HTC:s normal OTA-updates. I want my phone to be exactly as an unbranded Magic bought here in sweden^^

Hello,
what kind of scientific calculator do you need?
On my (own developed) calculator I can define variables
and functions and even small programs etc.
How it looks like you can see on my webpage
www.prostab.de. (Look for 1x1 for PPC)
But this is the version for my OrbitI.
Don't download the testversion now because it is not
updated at the time being. I will update it soon
(also the version for the hd2).
If you are interested let me know it.

The stock calculator does not even have any input for scientific notation. So really how good of a scientific calculator could that be? And who the heck reads the manual anyway?

LoL I get the correct result. But if you get the wrong result it is not a bug, it is user fault... In landscape mode it does not calculate step by step. It modifies the answer based on the whole calculation.
You have to enter (88888888/2-44)/100 to get 444444 or else you get 444443,56 which is the correct answer to 88888888/2-44/100...

First of all: Seems to be a great app!
...fast, smoth an convenient to use!!!
But from my point of view it's a little bit confusing to have in the DIALER-Column all contacts listed, even if i have typed nothing...
Ragards!
its nice but when using the t9 dialer, it requires me to type almost full words/stop typing a name before it display my desired one.
hmmm looks very interesting i am gona try it !!!
It's great ))
I really like the interface. I am using MIUI Gingerbread now on my EVO and have decided to make TouchPal my dialer of choice. Also, on a side note, downloaded your keyboard which is amazing as well!
Thanks for all the work!
Awesome, Great work.
Really nice dailer. Much better than the one that comes with Arc.
Seems better than GO Contacts for me too
Nice!
Very nice dialer. It's replaced DialerOne for now. As for feedback; could you make it so that you can swipe left/right to switch tabs on top? And maybe give each contact a "call" and a "message" button in the contact list?
Not a complaint, but more of a question. Why is it that none of the dialers can implement facebook synced contact pictures? Dialer one used to do it but now they dont do it either.
Again not a complaint because Im using this over dialer one right now. just curious

Blame FaceBook... I read somewhere that a couple of months ago that they changed something in the API..... at least that's what I remember reading. For the life of me I can remember where or when I read it.... sorry
@ Cootek... very nice looking dialer!!! Just downloaded it. Will use it a bit and post up my thoughts, concerns and hopes for the future.... ;-p
Just for starters... screen swiping would be nice, landscape and maybe a little more control over how it looks.
But other than that very nice. Looking foward to using it.

Good looking dialer, but right off the bat I have noticed a couple things.
1. You have some typos in the menus, the first one I noticed is in the vibration settings for hanging up the phone.
2. I long press a contact and hit delete through the dialer and the contact still remains.
I think I still prefer Youlu.

[App][2.3+] Who's got the funniest phone number? See if you have a cool vanity number

The app is not actually made for checking if you have a cool vanity number ("1-888-PIZZA"), but that's one way of using it
I created the app as a help for finding meaningful names to a given number, making it easier to memorize numbers.
I'll never forget the security code to my car stereo anymore. It's "cake" - (2253)
If you'd like to check it out, or perhaps see if you or your friends have a fun phone number, you can check it out at play store - NameMyNumber.
Hope you give it a try, and hopefully have some fun :fingers-crossed:
Please also remember that you can select different languages for your results. (Settings button)

Well, thats why you can select a given word, and then again get a new search result. Limiting the new search result based on your previous selection. A sort of "drill down" into the results.
That way you may be able to get 2 or 3 words out of your number.
Numbers containing 0 and 1 in the middle part of the number, tends to provide less good result. Since there are no characters for 0 and 1 on the dial pad.
Did you try to combining one word with others?

I actually thought about searching through the contact list. It's just that I'm affraid people would be very sceptic if the app needed access to contact info...
What are your thoughts on that? Would you be OK with it?

From my point of view, it depends on what the app does.
- If I expect an app to make lookups in the contacts. then I'd have no problem with it.
If I don't see why an app would need it, then I agree with you.
Perhaps I'll add a "share via" function that enables the user to send a contact to NameMyNumber.
Any thoughts?

Sure, why not. Although it would be easier for the user to pick from a list within the app...
By the way, I showed the app to my younger brother. The app became quite the laugh amongst his friends at school. They where competing on having the best number
Thanks for the feedback, that's very kind of you
If anyone has some more feedback on the app, I'd love to here it.
If not, I suppose I'll leave it as it is, this strange little app...
And then move on to the next project.

No worries , I should perhaps had an "Tip" splash screen of some sort, informing the user that the results can be selected. I'm sure that if you didn't get it the first time, there are lots of others in the same situation.
