iContact-like Shortuct Launcher ? - General Topics

Anybody know of an app like iContact/PocketCM but to launch program shortcuts instead of contact dialer ?
I would like to have a thumb scrollable list of all the programs etc that I use.
If not, are there any brave souls willing to take the iContact source code and some how make it run exe shortcuts rather than contact dialling ?

I found l3v5y's Scroll Launcher, its great and very similar to my request.. but its still a little lacking.. any other suggestions ?

go into the registry and edit it:
HKLM\software\microsoft\shell\rai
and go to :mscontacts and edit the string in "1" to equal the path for the program you wanted to launch

Not sure if you read my post, thanks for the random tip though
What I am looking for is an actual program that looks/feels like iContact, but launches shortcuts instead of dialling.

im interested too in such applikation, pm me pls, if you find some

I recommend mortbuttons. It's not exactly like icontact but it's very finger friendly. Besides, the blackaqua theme matches the glossy black bar very well.

why not use th Q n A section of the fourm???? funny thing is that i did a search n found many
PLEASE UES THE QnA UNLESS U HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER
most people come here to see whats new or get updates for programs being developed ...it is very anoying to see new post with nothing to offer

that's what people do in here. is can't be clearer than this, that the first thread in this forum is for questions and answers... since it says : QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS HERE! or something like that...
but people ignore this, ask questions here, and since others reply instead of directing them to the correct thread, they STILL ask questions in new pointless threads. human nature.

I posted there, with no response. I dunno, it seems to me in order to get any eyeballs on a question you have to start a new thread (sorry, I know this is against 'the rules') Besides, this is technically a dev/hacking question, and I'm contributing by generating interest in such an app. Since I've posted, l3v5y has come out of the woodwork to say he's beginning a rewrite of his launcher - plus I've contacted Tene and SupBro to ask about the possibility of forking their projects into a launcher rather than dialler.
@ dan0zone & nir36 : Thanks for the helpful advice.

Way to much of this going on... Hopefully this thread is just moved before it too becomes a mess.
I agree that such a launcher has potential. It would be kind of cool if it had support for groups/folders as well.
Personally, I'd like to see something that uses shortcuts and sub folders inside of a base folder as opposed to a built in browse for the app style of assigning things. It makes setting up extremely easy if you're using your desktop. I uderstand that they both have their ins and outs though.
It would be kind of cool if it could be developed in such a way as to employ the skins from whatever version of iContact you're running or it's own...
Also, how about a contextual menu option to jump to the apps root folder in either file explorer or TC? It would make editing the preference files in those apps which still require manual editing of .ini or .xml files MUCH easier.

Schap's already has something in the works, and PointUI also has this function as well. PointUI is the entire UI, not just the app launcher, and I haven't used it lately, but the scrolling was inverted last I used.

Nice link. I tried that one but it seems to be too battery draining for all day use, also not very customisable. I'm crossing my fingers that someone can just change iContact to make it launch apps instead. I'm learning C++ and gonna buy Visual Studio just for this project if no one else can ..

Well it doesn't scroll the way Schaps new menu will.
Put it does have page flicks from left toe right and RtL and UtD etc.
MortBottuns yes.
If people would have given this some more support and skins a few years ago it would maybe even have had scrolling support.
Best of all is it's highly configurable and aoollws for you to make submenu's.
Who knows what a few donations to Mort would do.
Cheerz,
The MortButtons Evangalist

Well, after a few days of hunting.. I've come to the conclusion that patiently sitting back and waiting for Schaps's incredible-looking TouchXperience launcher is the best option.
I've donated a bit, and encourage everyone else interested to do the same

... that show Microlab's new Iolite-based WM 6.1 Manila TouchFlo 2D ROM in action. There are about 88 slides total, but the max size is 50 per slideshow, thus in 2 parts. I will post Part 2 tomorrow. I'm interested in knowing if this seems helpful to people, and if so, explain please.
LINK TO WATCH PART 1 SLIDESHOW (displays at Photobucket.com)
To see this ROM RELEASE thread, go here:
One thing you might note from this photo above: I choose to place my TODAY tab all the way to the right, and in the more customary "home" position I place PROGRAMS. Since my background is usability design, this is my reason, but everyone is different, and that's what makes these newer, easily customizable interfaces finally user-friendly for mainstream:
When I turn on my phone, I usually have something to do, maybe use google maps, maybe make an audio note. I don't care if I see the large clock telling me what time it is. I can see the time in the top task bar of the PROGRAMS page... but with PROGRAMS as my "home" screen, I immediately am able to finger-tap my primary apps without first having to slide to find the tab.
Second: If I do want to go to TODAY screen, it is half-a-second away, without even looking at my phone. I just slide the bottom tab-bar all the way right. It ends on "Today" so I don't have to slow down to make sure which tab I am on. These are my personal preferences.
In this Slideshow you will see: Phone with "Slide To Unlock 2", then "Today" page of the Touchflo 2D interface. Then a survey of Programs, People, Weather, etc, and use of tools like Total Commander.
I'm going to work out a way to tag each slide with a number or name reference so discussion can be posted about the functionality or controllable elements of any object on any page shown. For now, we will be winging it on the T-Mobile WING.

I like the rom exactly as done in your slideshow but the download link you posted shows a different rom. I am confused on how to make it look like the one above!
I like how the program menu is on the above rom, pretty cool!
That's a really nice looking rom. Thank you for sharing those pictures because they really give a better idea for choosing a custom rom.

Yeah, I know... I am new to TouchFlo, but I started searching on XDA for different themes/skins, and started to apply different themes.
There is an application available here at XDA called "M2dc" -- get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427392 which enables people to very easily change their touchflo themes... by allowing people who know how to customize to export their themes as "m2dt" files (manila touchflo 2d THEME files).
Then: THIS THREAD has hundreds of themes you can choose from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=451702
See post #6 where they begin showing the screenshots.
====
By the time I posted this slideshow, I had been experimenting with a bunch of these themes, but I do not know if I still have an m2dt theme file for this... because then I chnaged the bottom slide bar to be blue on white, for hiugher contrast, and then I chnaged the programs boxes from dark to light, for same reasons.
I will try to find the version in the slideshow. I changed the font size and colors -- which is also something you can do very easily with M2DC customization tool.

Shortcut to a folder on today's screen

Hello,
Sorry if the question as been asked before but I didn't find using the search function
I'd like to have on my today's screen shortcuts to a folder (say "games" for example) rather than to a program, contact or shortcut as proposed natively
I created a shortcut to this folder and put it in Application Data/HTC/Proglauncher but it doesn't work
Thanks for your help !

It's a good idea to put a shortcut to "games" folder !

I agree thats the only thing that is missing...I used to use spb mobile shell, on it you can put virtualy every short cut available
Anyway I agree and I personally would like more settings on the short cut
Still haven't how to do it and no more place on my 20 shortcuts on the home screen =(
I too would like to know if this possible, at the moment have to go through file explorer and so it would save a few taps!
+1
Would be idea here too.
Plus it would save on using seperate links for all the individual games.
Maybe make a shortcut of a Folder and copy it into Programs in Startmenu!?
Just an idea!?
Works...
edit: But it just opens the File Explorer into the Folder!
that would be a good start, thanks funmacher, but then the link can't seem to be opened (Can't open file, not signed with a trusted certificate, etc...) =(

i'm looking for a solution for these problem since i've byued my Leo...
i would like to have a games shortcut on home screen...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=607682 (post# 9)
I posted this on another thread, it does seem to work
What so on the home screen, one of the 3 tabs is a like to the games folder? I found one way using resco explorer. Browse to windows/startmenu/programs and then hold your finger on the games folder till you get the menu pop up, select send to> start menu as shortcut. Then go to add a program on the home links and go to programs (instead of bookmarks or contacts) and the games folder will be there, the image will be the resco explorer image with the word games underneath it

Hi,
Dont mean to sound funny, but this thread is full of people saying "yeah me too"
Also do any of you know what the today screen is? because you cannot display a folder on the MS Today Screen.
You can on Titanium and And Sense but not MS Today!
If you put your effort into looking about you would easily find these things!

sorry mate but when you say MS today screen, are we saying the same thing, because what i am referring to is to have a particular shortcut on the 20 quick link (in sense of course) different from what the device is offering programs and contact...When i was using SPB it was feasible and just asking whether it is feasible in sense...

In which case why have you called the thread Shortcut to a folder on today's screen? as this is completely misleading, hence my post.
The Today Screen is when you go to "Settings/Home/Items" and remove all items. then you have the Today screen!

[Tutorial] Update YOUR Facebook Status (HTC Sense)

NOTICE:: This thread is for HTC Sense 2.1 & 2.5 Users who use Facebook hourly/daily.
Well, I know quite a few of the Custom HTC Sense 2.5 ROM users have downloaded & installed the Facebook Tab for Sense [Found Here], and have noticed that, at this moment, it is not possible to update your OWN status with the Tab.
Edit: May 15, 2010: meltwater looks to be on the road to success with the Tab implementing a way to update your status... He hasn't released much information about it YET, but there is a brief explanation and a small Teaser Pic HERE. Looks like we may have a new replacement for the "via HTC Sense".
1.) Slide to your Contacts Tab
2.) Select "All People"
3.) If you haven't already, setup YOUR Contact Card [Named: "Me"]
4.) Be sure to Link your Facebook Profile, if you haven't yet.
5.) Once you have done so, go back to your Contact Card.
6.) Scroll ALL the way down to your Facebook Link, and tap it:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
7.) Once you Tap it, you'll see the following screen:
8.) This is your "Status Update" screen.
9a.) For WVGA Resolutions, the "Share" button will be visible right there.
9b.) For VGA Resolutions, you'll notice the thin Gray Scroll bar on the FAR Right. Scroll down to see the "Share" button.
10.) Enter your Status Update into the Box, then click Share.
11.) Go to your Facebook Tab in Sense and tap "Update Now".
[BUG FOUND-VGA:: With some ROMs, in the Landscape view of the Status Update page, You may notice a glitch while trying to type.]
**I'm currently looking for a full solution {For Hardware Keyboard Users :: Touch Pro/Fuze, etc..}**
And there you go! Instant Facebook Status Update without the need of any Apps or a mobile browser.
Just for the record, I used the Forum Search function to see if something like this has been posted before, and the results of the search have influenced me to create this thread. Also, I wasn't sure how many people might actually know about this.. so.... yeah..
If this thread helped you, or you simply appreciate the Tutorial, please don't hesitate to say "Thanks!".
- Agent Zach
Thanks for sharing!!
Would be nice with an app that simply directly goes to this in sense:
Ithink its to many "klicks" to get to the "uppdate youre facebook status". I get it to 4 klicks and one scroll down Not to smooth imo.
I think Meltwater is planning on Re-Directing the "Your Profile" area of the Tab to this area, but, honestly, I can't speak for him, as I'm not 100% sure on WHAT he'll be doing.
And I understand it's not the easiest way to do it, but hey, it works without the use of of any Apps or a Mobile Browser. It's a good way for a Bare-bone Sense ROM.
wow. now i got another people who know about updating via htc sense.
coz weeks ago i posted a bug update failure via htc sense on cell pro v 8.2 rom n no body understand wat i am talking about. they told me to open via apps mobile web.
i am pleased somebody realised this n hope meltwater will be doing something really useful for updating status without have to do the several click n scrolling.
waiting for the result ^^
Trust me, when Meltwater updates the Tab to do such a thing, I'll be sure to update this thread with the results.
Thanks for the quality post. HTC has a way of hiding these things until they're 100% ready for the 'limelight' so to speak. I'm sure that Sense 3.x will be a lot more friendly on the social side.
Tested this on my Tilt2 with Sergio's 76 rom and it worked. Funny the function was out there but never thought to try it. Thanks for letting us know, now I can bypass the app and use the facebook tab and the contacts.
Yeah, I'm sure if & when they Update HTC Sense, it will rely upon Social Networking...
And not a problem m8. Bypassing the use of the Web & the App does save a bit of time.
Thank you! Never had noticed that
Thank you very much...really useful tutorial.
You're very welcome. Glad I could help.
Using TMOUS HD2 here, stock ROM...
I've linked my Facebook profiles but I don't see "Me" in the list when I go to add a contact to the People page. I see "Me" under all people and the function to update profile is available just as it should be, I just can't choose it from the list to add a quick link to my contact page.
See, that's the thing. That's one of the few reasons meltwater hasn't been able to simply link the "Your Profile" area of the Tab to the "Me" contact card.
I honestly think, without the use of a Third-Party Contact Mananger, doing a shortcut to your own profile might be out of the question...
I'll search for a solution and I'll be sure to keep you informed on what I find, as this might be the easiest, fastest way to Change your Status.
Cool! Thanks for the info
I definitely didn't realise Sense could do this, and thought it quite strange - thanks for the tip!
I like the fact it says 'via HTC sense' when you use it too!
You're very welcome.
And the "via HTC Sense" thing on Facebook is one of my favorite features. For several of my other friends who are WinMo Fanatics, all with HTC Devices, it feels good to Advertise that I'm running Sense on an, officially, un-supported device.
Thanks for the info..
Not a problem m8. Hope you found my post useful.
I hate to double post, but I just noticed that this thread was highlighted on the XDA Portal HERE.
Thanx to orbit3000, and anyone else involved in the highlight, very much.
I've been with XDA for awhile, but never really invloved myself until a few months ago. So to me, this highlight, is my foot in the door. I think I'll whip open my Visual Studio and take my "basic noob" level to another standard.

OMG, this is exactly the app i was looking for.
I had the idea of such an app for months!
Thanks for it!
the cat ran across the road?!
wow! m already starting to like this app,
xD
pretty cool,i've been looking for somthing like this.
Suggestions
This is a great great app and a really good idea.. but I wanna give you some suggestions. The GUI is messy and doesn't properly use space.
On the very top is the Clipboard entry area (this should be at the bottom as its not usually used) it occupies immediately 1/2 of the screen with a large area that is totally wasted. Then, if there are contents on the clipboard they are not displayed nicely in the window (really ugly).
Then because of large unused area for the clipboard, now the Custom entry are is hidden when the keyboard is pulled-up (which by the way should pop-up immediately and it doesn't). Then if I want to add an icon, that menu selection is at the very bottom, so I have to close the keyboard to get there and, that menu doesn't have icon previews, just bullets (it needs icon previews as like the PICK ICON menu item). Finally the NOTE CUSTOM MESSAGE is at the very bottom (worse place), needs to be at the top.
All this makes a single entry an endless effort of way too many clicks to get anything done. I'm on a 7" Galaxy Tab. Look at the screenshots and get inspired
Finally, for this app to make ANY SENSE, it needs to be AS EASY TO ACCESS AS THE NOTES IT CREATES!!!!!!!!!! So, make it run as a hidden notification so it can be pulled down from the taskbar and activated (like the app Clipper - Clipboard manager for example.. you can check it out on the market if you are not sure what I mean)
Really nice app though. I want to love it.. you just need to make it right now
I've already added some features to the program, including the short cut you suggested, just my keystore is 100+ miles away on my desktop so I cant yet publish the update (its been sitting around for over a month).
I have also updated the gui, it shows only what is relevant at a given moment and keyboard no longer poses an issue on my nexus s, literally the app has everything you want (its just not published), i'm working on it

havok123, thanks for the feedback, this is great news! I didn't mean at all to be harsh or overly criticizing.. think your app is truly fantastic and therefor I just would like it you to get it perfect! I'm happy you decided to learn Java just to program this... totally worth it!
When you have an update for the or if you want me to help you beta test/trouble shoot an updated version, post the info here on the thread or PM me. Id love to help you if I can.
Keep up the great work and when its perfect make a paid version. It will be worth it and I think many people would buy it. You can definitely count me in and your work should be rewarded!
Just uploaded update finally.
Updated to 3.0
Changelog:
What's in this version:
N Clip Shortcut
Edit notifications on click
Updated GUI
Bug fixes
Great update, interface much more workable & cleaner.
One suggestion that immediately comes 2mind is, get rid of the sticky app icon that shows up on taskbar when selecting the enable shortcut option. No ned & cluttery. IfU add a note without chooding custom icon, now there are DOUBLE app icons on the taskbar being displayed one of which is NOT a note.. very confusing and unecessary.
If the enable shortcut opion is chosen, we know its there in the pulldown menu already, thats enough &keeps taskbar cleaner for actual notifications only
going to get on it over christmas break xD

...fast, smoth an convenient to use!!!
But from my point of view it's a little bit confusing to have in the DIALER-Column all contacts listed, even if i have typed nothing...
Ragards!
its nice but when using the t9 dialer, it requires me to type almost full words/stop typing a name before it display my desired one.
hmmm looks very interesting i am gona try it !!!
It's great ))
I really like the interface. I am using MIUI Gingerbread now on my EVO and have decided to make TouchPal my dialer of choice. Also, on a side note, downloaded your keyboard which is amazing as well!
Thanks for all the work!
Awesome, Great work.
Really nice dailer. Much better than the one that comes with Arc.
Seems better than GO Contacts for me too
Nice!
Very nice dialer. It's replaced DialerOne for now. As for feedback; could you make it so that you can swipe left/right to switch tabs on top? And maybe give each contact a "call" and a "message" button in the contact list?
Not a complaint, but more of a question. Why is it that none of the dialers can implement facebook synced contact pictures? Dialer one used to do it but now they dont do it either.
Again not a complaint because Im using this over dialer one right now. just curious

Blame FaceBook... I read somewhere that a couple of months ago that they changed something in the API..... at least that's what I remember reading. For the life of me I can remember where or when I read it.... sorry
@ Cootek... very nice looking dialer!!! Just downloaded it. Will use it a bit and post up my thoughts, concerns and hopes for the future.... ;-p
Just for starters... screen swiping would be nice, landscape and maybe a little more control over how it looks.
But other than that very nice. Looking foward to using it.

Yea I figured it was a facebook thing. But Handcent is able to draw from it thats why I feel like it should be possible to implement them.
Looks very nice and efficient on searches.
Can you add a setting to order contacts by last name?
Just an fyi, doesnt scale correctly for a qHD screen.
Sorry mate but i can't find it on the Market? Or if i search for it on the Market website on my PC? Looks great!
I can only find some chinese app on the market?
EDIT: It was the chinese app. Looks very good and is translated to english when I install it.
Behaps you should make the name change from chinese to english? Very good job though

it downloads as chinese and has chinese writing in the notifications on install buts its in english
Good looking dialer, but right off the bat I have noticed a couple things.
1. You have some typos in the menus, the first one I noticed is in the vibration settings for hanging up the phone.
2. I long press a contact and hit delete through the dialer and the contact still remains.
I think I still prefer Youlu.
