That's what it is really. Just a few simple modifications to the statusbar background and data, battery, and service icons.
Thanks goes out to Amon_RA, JesusFreke, Stericson, Cyanogen, johnnybueno, and everyone/anyone else that has either directly or indirectly helped me.
I will work on this as time goes on, but I really don't like the way the stock icons look in the status bar, so I went ahead and changed some out, and figured I would share in case any one else would like this.

i would love to. if someone can throw an un-odex-ed services.jar at me, then I will try and do it.
Yeah, a black notification bar would complete this phone for me, this one looks great too though, just prefer black.
I am working right now with baksmali and deodexerant right now to try and get an un-.odex-ed services.jar so that I can try and get white text on a black bar, but of course, not really knowing anything makes it difficult.
I just think its fregin awesome that my phone was delivered today and everyone got together and jumped on modding this thing...Cyanogen, themes are rolling out, etc. I'd just like to say thanks for all the hard work you guys put into this.
even if you de-odex the services.jar (which fails right now with deodexerant), you have to de-odex the whole build, otherwise it won't take back the changed framework (it'll fail the security check) and the phone won't boot.

thank you for telling me though. i was wondering why deodexerant was failing for me.
Just for those curious...the theme does work
I was wondering when someone would come out with this. I can't believe it's here so soon! I hate the normal status bar, but love everything about the pohne. This is really the icing on the cake. Cheers bro!
Am I the only one disappointed that they didn't switch up the style for the note bar on this phone?
I agree with JoshHart. Ne way to make that ugly grey status bar black? I cant believe you already poped out a working theme!! Geez the N1 barely made its first breathe and its already rooted, has roms and gots a theme!! Geez. I waited so long for the MT3G to come out with tons of stuff. N1 N1 N1!!!! lol!!

When the 2.1 AOSP source is dropped and a rom is made from it that isn't odexed then I should be able to make a black bar.
Does the signal bar have to flipped? And the battery meter is simply a black box? Yes, I know it was a just a "small theme"..but some design choices are rather odd looking to a point.
I'm usin this theme, works fine, I'm not really feelin the inverted signal bars either, i'm cool with the battery though. I'm just happy to be rid of that stock notification bar, god it's ugly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561675
For more of an explanation of why things are like they are. they are inverted because I like the way it looks. It takes about 1 minute to fix if someone else wants to. The battery is like that because I like the way it looks. A lot of things in the current theme I am working on for the nexus one will be similar to that thread above. Personal taste.
If you want to flip the images then take the following from /system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/
stat_sys_signal_x.png replace x with 0 to 5.
Then using really most any image manipulation program, flip it. Then replace those images in the same place in that .apk and either resign the file, or you can try to adb push it back to /system/framework/framework-res.apk. I have tried an adb push of the .apk's for the nexus yet, but did it all the time on my G1.

If they were to make the status bar black, the icons on top of the status bar would become difficult to see, since they are also black. It'd have to be a light color, over a dark one to even things out. I edited the apk file, to see how it would look myself..isn't the best idea. Although, you could add a small white glow to the icons, if that isn't too much. Hmm, I might try this myself.. or wait, I could just invert the black ~.~
EDIT: To david, yes, I flipped it myself lol. Just wanted to complain a tad XP

The problem with making is black is then you wouldn't see the time or the date in the notification bar. When an AOSP ROM is released then it should be easy to get a black bar.
Oh yea..I wasn't even thinking about the time..

Version 2 updated on first post
Is anyone using this theme getting a blue keyboard when texting?
Blue text on keyboard is from a mod I made with other theme. I thought I took that out but if u long press in text field an option will pop up select input method. Then choose second android keyboard. That has the red keys in pic on first post. BTW I hardly get any lag from this keyboard.

The developer has already created a blue rom. Search the Hero CDMA Themes and Apps section. I know I've seen it in there.
That is correct but all u have to do is click the link in my signature at bottom of the post and it will take u right to it

Hey boss, phenomenal work ... in my opinion, this theme is even better than Blue Echo. I did notice a couple of things, thought it might help ...
1) The "application selection" bubble is blue (the bubble that appears when you press on an application, forgive the noobocity but I don't know the official name). I had a feeling it could be a remnant of a different theme in the same light as the "blue keyboard".
2) The lock pattern color is the stock green. Its a small thing, but considering the astounding thoroughness of the color changes (remarkable, really, how detail-oriented you are) it stood out.
3) Finally ... and just an idea ... is it possible to make the addressbook names white instead of black? I realize it may seem a bit athematic, but it would improve the legibility substantially.
I don't mean to sound critical because, in my humble opinion, this is the best theme I've ever seen. The detail is astounding, really well done. I just thought maybe I could help with ideas for V3.
Keep it up boss!

Hey thanks for the input.
I'm working on changing the text to white but its proving to be a pain in the ass. Also the blue bubble thing and keyboard will be fixed in next version
I will look and see what I can do about lock pattern. Trying to upgrade both this theme and blue echo at same time but expect something soon.
BTW if u long press in text field and choose input method and select second android keyboard ull love it.
Also if any one knows a way to change text to white in HTC contacts please help. I can change it globally throughout phone but really just want it changed in the one place.
white lines in clock
I was wondering if you have fixed the lines through the clock. This theme kicks all kinds of a$$, but that is kinda bothering me.
I love the Theme! I have been using it now for about a week.
I have a little feed back to help make the theme better. I know we can switch to the red keyboard by long pressing in the text field (thanks to your quick reply to a previous post), but when I switched to the red keyboard, I was dissapointed to see that there was no speech to text mic button anywhere on that keyboard. Is there a reason that it is not on the red keyboard, but is on the blue keyboard?
This is the same Blackbar I had been keeping updated for Enom and Cyan ROMs for a while. I have updated it for Modaco MCR-R17 Froyo.
Includes:
Desire status bar and icons
Transparent power control widget with green highlights
Shiny black popup boxes
Green highlighting on the geniewidget
Maybe some other stuff I don't remember.
To-Do: I just noticed the debug icon on the shade looks stupid. So I will fix the icon tomorrow and put out an update. -DONE
Also going to make the pull down shade more transparent. Not really liking the gray look.
You need the newer version of metamorph to be able to apply this. (xml version)
I have no intention of changing ANYTHING in this morph for any reason. THIS is how *I* want my morph to look. If you don't like something about it, feel free to look elsewhere or change it yourself. I won't be offended.
This version will ONLY work with the newest Modaco ROM posted on 24 June, 2010.

I still haven't figured out how to get a screenshot on Froyo. My ddms don't work for whatever reason. (Ubuntu 9.10)
The Screens look very similar to the ones found here in the original post.

The only exception is the coloring and alignment on the geniewidget are better and the power control widget is transparent with green highlights.

wow this is nice. i'm still using froyo with the black notification bar with the gray circle around the clock. guess i have to flash a new froyo ROM, huh? i'm still using the original with cyanogen's rooter. just so lazy to start over!
and once official froyo is released, wont we all have to start over again with flashing the new update?

Yes, once the new updates finally make it to AOSP, there will be all sorts of new ROMs coming out and you will need to pick one that you like. Most likely, I will update this to work with Enom and Cyan once they get their respective ROMs out.
Thats the name of the game though, flash, flash, and flash some more until you get one you really like. It's not like it is hard or time consuming really. It only takes a minute to flash a new ROM and be up and running.

How do out guys save all your info when flashing though? A nand backup doesn't work from a different ROM, right? Always wondered about best way to save info like call log, texts, browser cache, etc.
does trackball notifications with screen-on still work after this mod? Currently i have "the other" black bar out there and the notifications only work with screen-off now..

I have the exact same problem. Latest MCR 17 and now I have white text but the bar color has not changed.
I had the same problem when I tried to do a different theme with an older MCR release.
Does anyone know why might be the cause?

Same problem.
Even did fresh mcr17 install.. same
When I get home from work tonight I will download the various versions of MCR 17 and check them out. I used a 'custom bake' to make it. But I would think the base framework and services would be the same.
As for the question about saving texts and so forth when flashing, I *think* titanium backup and my backup pro both have that option. I don't know since I never save anything when I flash. I try to keep the new ROM as cleaned up as possible for top performance.
Also looking for which versions people are using most. Paul has 4 different versions of R17 posted.
Code:
- r17 with default MoDaCo additions
- r17 with default MoDaCo additions and A2SD -
- r17 with default MoDaCo additions and Chinese input
- r17 without default MoDaCo additions
I'm using r17 without additions and I'm encountering the same reboot issue on step 4.
I am using a custom kitchen version of MCR r17
can't seem to figure out how to get "status_bar_background.png" transparent, .png that show transparent anywhere else won't be transparent when in framework-res...i'm pretty sure i had pulled the transparent from eclair smooth blackbar, but it doesn't remain transparent on froyo...
Stock R17 (no additions,) getting the reboot and white text/white bar.
I had the same problem with white text and white notifications. I just applied step four again and did a reboot now everything is working perfectly. Great work I love how this looks especially the transparent pop up boxes.
This is not a big update but is different, and with 2.2 I felt the other thread was getting messy with all the 2.1 stuff.
This is basically the same with the addition of one image file.

I went and got permission from mb02 to be able to port his shaded status bar into a metamorph. I take no credit for this,, all I did was port this to be a meta morph theme and that is it. original thread
the great suggest came from Teh_Higgins to port it to use with this.
use with metamorph. may need to apply a few times. that is normal. Also check in your framework-res folder to see if you have drawable-hdpi or drawable hdpi-v4, this comes included with hdpi, but sometimes people have the -v4 and if that's so just edit the file to have the -v4.
shaded bar download
I like the idea, but having the whole thing a solid transparent kind of feels weird when matched with the notification bar being solid. Maybe keep the default design the same, but make it transparent, so the buttons still have some darkness to them.
Also does this cause us to lose the home screen indicator?

Aw shucks. lol
I am unaware of the details of theming. Does this just affect the appearance of the rosie launcher, or is it a "version" of rosie (so to speak)? Reason being that i want to try out the new build of skyraider but he uses the espresso version of rosie. Any idea what result this theme would get or should i just try it out and report back?
EDIT: I like to use the round battery, would i still be able to install it over your metamorph theme or continue to use the framework.apk swap method?

This isnt a clockwork mod zip, it is meant for use inside a program from within android called "meta morph", its on the market, you will also need "busybox" installed
you should read up about this stuff till you hate it, then your ready to try to use it.
cool dled metamorph and applyed it. me gusta
im applying the shaded status bar mod in metamorph right now and its been applying framework-res.apk for like 5 minutes and is still loading it. is that normal?
Anyway we could get the right button remapped to open the browser, this would pretty much make this perfect.
I wish my friend. I've tried, I've searched, I've seeked help from those with the know. It's alot of work and it was work I couldn't figure out. Drove me crazy for about a week, then I finally let it go lol. I wanted the stock SMS to the right button. The author or Sky Raider is working on a final release that will have these types of things I guess. From what he told me I am understanding it as it'll be for his ROM but an add on for other roms as well, so i hope, not that his ROM isn't great.
oh skyraider al ready has it working, you can download it already. i'll try it on a stovk froyo sense that is deodexed
the only way to do it is to take the rosie.apk and com.htc.resources.apk from skyraider and use it on stock deodexed. although this will give you the 5 aoo row in drawer and iltt say skyraider..
With permission from D3StRoY & R64 and lots of help from nitsuj17, I've been able to port the Generation X theme from the I9000 to the Mesmerize. The original theme post is here
I'm still working on a few more tweaks to put into it, but I feel that this is a good starting point for a 1.0 base. I'm learning to work more deeply into the files now so there is more that I can do with this.
Features that this version includes:
Generation X wallpaper, boot animation, and boot sound - all of which can be changed, btw
Accurate battery mod during discharge
Fixed colors for the menus, white on black (they were black on black)
Fixed colors for sub menus (some were showing up blue)
Features that I'm working on:
Accurate battery mod during charge (only shows 2 icons while charging right now)
Remove clock from status bar for people who use clock widget
Add Reboot, Recovery, and Download options to Phone options screen
Possibly work on icons for home screen
These pics were taken by the tester, elijahblake, so give a big thanks to him. Different wallpapers and icons make a difference, also. The ones in the pics are his and do not come with the theme.

Disable voodoo lagfix if you have it installed. ***This is a safety precaution.****
Reboot into recovery and do a backup. I am not responsible for anything that you do to your phones. Although this has been tested and appears to be running fine. You are all masters of your own destiny.
Flash from recovery.
Go to advanced and wipe Dalvik and battery stats.
Reboot.
This reboot will take an extra long time because you wiped Dalvik cache. This is normal. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes. If it takes longer than 5, pull your battery, use three button method to get back into recovery and restore using your backup. (This is where disabling voodoo saves your butt.)
DOWNLOAD: Generation X 1.0 Theme for Showcase
As a side note, this theme looks really good with some of the wallpapers in the wallpaper pack that I uploaded, also.
Very nice theme..
Thanks again!!!
how hard would it be to make the text Bold? I guess looking at a computer all day is starting to put a strain on my eyes haha...

I'll look in to it. It's in the xml coding, so I just need to see where it goes.
let me know if you want to port some more to the showcase.. I'll be happy to test them out..
Phil, great work on showcase and love the theme. Any way i can get the stock dialer buttons back? I hate only seeing a small blue flap while i dial my numbers. I was hoping this theme would change it from the Glassia them but its still there. and way you can cook me a ZIP with the original dialer? Thanks again.

did you make a backup before you flashed the Glassia theme?
If so you can just do a restore and get your original keyboard back, then flash this theme...
i thought about that, i dont want to lose my apps and some other mods i have done since. what about replacing the sytem apks in the glassia theme with the original ones? i guess i could use my backup and backup the apps. and do what you suggested.

honestly that's above my gimp/photoshop skills... haha, i wish i could do stuff that in depth, but you'd have to change each of the 242 files in gimp...
I can get the geofrost one which is basically what you're wanting i think
how about that?
sounds excellent. Thanks!. Loving the boot animations.

Anyone making or thinking about making a theme that will go with the official Gingerbread leak we got?
Hopefully others will sound off as well with interest, something clean would be nice and please no more blue, phone has red accents for the love of God. Red, black, white, transparent would all be fine if anyone is up to it, it would be greatly appreciated.
I always theme mine green.
I have mine themed up with green notification icons in the status bar, semi transparent rosie dock with green icons.
Wait so is there a way to put a battery percentage in the notification bar? This is really the only thing I'm missing.

Just run your framework-res.apk through the UOT kitchen.
I feel like I should make a zip for everyone since there's so many requests for it.

Anytime I have played with the framework (on my own) in the past it has led to problems, whether it be metamorph and ninjamorph I always seem to get boot loops.
I have yet to try the UOT Kitchen just hoping the community comes up with some theming options I can just flash in cwm and go from there.
What kind of themes were you guys looking for?
By "Gingerbread theme," does that mean the stock Gingerbread look instead of the Sense stuff? Like Skyraider 4.

I cant speak for everyone but I was looking for a theme that has a nice and clean look to it and maybe changes the colors up a bit. Changing everything that is green to red/black or white/black would look nice. Also changing up the status bar some and the notification pull down window would be awesome. That bright white pull down window is bland, boring, and BLINDING!

Alright. I don't want to promise a bunch of stuff and end up disappointing everyone, but I'll see if I can put together a few things.

Yea no prob man take your time. Look forward to it.
So, I pieced together a black and red-ish theme. Looks really cool, from what I can see of it.
I'm getting loads of force closes all over, and the lock screen looks a little weird. Would anyone with more theming experience care to jump in and help me sort it out a little?
I was just messing with with some stuff as well.
I don't have the sdk on my PC and don't really know much about signing apk's and things like that but what I was doing was going into the apk's on my computer (for framework, htc.resourse, and systemUI) and just altering every .png i found that was green and changing it to a nice red.
What I was hoping to do was do that for all 3 apk's and then add those files to the UOT Kitchen to basically bind them all together while also throwing on a battery mod or something.
Probably pretty ass backwards but with my limited exp. I thought it might work.
Only problem is I can't find .png's for a few things like the green android that comes up during a phone call, and I didn't want to take hours changing everything if I wasn't going to be able to complete this project 100%.
I highly recommend [ROM][8/25] McSense v1.1 - GingerSense 1.0 by 00McD00. Ive been running it for while with no issues. Status bar is solid black, pull down is solid black with white notifications, slate style call and lockscreen, and its just as quick as any of the other new stock roms- cool stuff. He seems pretty open to new ideas so anyone with decent know-how could probably help it along.
Thanks man but I pretty much got all of that already by using UOT Kitchen ^^^.
Only thing I couldn't get to work right in the Kitchen was changng the entire notification screen black and having the text be white as seen here:

After a reboot text comes out black and you can't read it unless you click on it.
I am guessing on McSense Rom that he left the space white with black text?
Right... I'm gonna have to look into UOT...
In case anyone is still interested, I got my force close issues sorted out. I've got a few images that need to be resized, but that shouldn't take too much more work.
I can have something up for you guys in the next few days.
