Is it possible to use the Windowsmenu Hardwarebutton to open a different app?
I like to allocate it to for example the Taskmanager!

I tried to set a long press of the home button to a program but it didn't work. A long press of the call button did though. You don't need to put the 'lnk' part in when you rename the file as it's done automatically. Post on here which ones you can get working cos i might wanna change some others.
easy
it can be done way more easy just instal the
Touch_X_Left_softkey_as_camera.cab
from smaberg's [REF] [Sense 2.5 tweaks & mods] [CABS] thread
after instal go to settings ->all settings -> personal -> buttons
there u can assign a program of choice
or u can use bsb tweaks even more easy (not tested my self).

Greetings,
I'm using an old version of AE Button Plus, which works like a charm on my hd2! You can remap any hardware button of your device and assign it any function. I didn't try the newest version, as this has become shareware (was freeware before). But as the oldest version works good, I thing the newest should work too. Here is the link:
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Currently, I'm using:
call button: no change
home button: no change
windows button: task manager
back button: close current programm (closing, not minimising)
back button, double press: launch thumbcal calendar
reject call button: no change
I hope that helps!

ah srry didnt read it good...
Surely there's the built in method ?
Start -> Settings -> Menu (Bottom Right SoftKey) -> All Settings -> Personal -> Buttons
As far as I can tell this only works against one key, but if you're precious about memory or bloat ware then personally, I prefer to use WMobile's built in features...

Hi
I need to remap a hardware button to run a program, but I haven't been able to find a reg tweak for it.
I've found these:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\KeyMaps
But from that I can only figure out how to disable or switch the mapping around.
Does anyone know how to do a reg tweak so I can map a hardware button to launch a specific program?
Thanks
Create a lnk file (shortcut) to your desired application, with one of the following names and put it in \Windows folder.
Short_Home - Home
Long_Home - Home
Short_CAMERA - camera
Long_CAMERA - camera
Long_POC - IE button (the one from above long volume up button)
Short_POC- IE button
Aditionaly:
Short_AP1
Long_AP1
Short_AP2
Long_AP2
Short_AP3
Long_AP3
Short_AP4
Long_AP4
for the phones with the 4 extra buttons above softkeys.
eg:
If we want CoolCamera to open at a long press of Camera button:
- make a shortcut to CoolCamera.exe (with Resco Explorer for example)
- rename the shortcut to Long_CAMERA.lnk
- copy the shortcut to \Windows with overwriting.
Aditionaly you can map Long_VolDown & Long_VolUp.
Edit: more info about HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\KeyMaps:

Thanks, but that doesn't work on the C500.
I don't have any shortcuts called anything like that in my windows folder. I tried creating one to test it out, and it was a no go
Any other ideas?
Not exactly what you are after, but you do know that you can assign programs in your start menu to speed dial right? Sorry if you already knew that. Another option is AEButton or whatever its called, but its pay software.

What OS do you have? WM5.0?
PS: that works fine on my HTC Tornado with WM5.0 and WM6.0
try this:
the instructions remain, just the shortcuts filename will change as follow:
CaLP & CaSP - camera
HomeLP - home
LP is coming from long press
SP is coming from short press

1. nope - the only app to support the SP platform, AEBPlus, doesn't support app-specific settings
2. yes, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337602
Menneisyys i just wanted to change the Vox's QuickNotes hardware button to point to Vito Audionotes... will i be able to do it in any manner?
I don't know Vox, but usually there is a ??.lnk file (with ?? as the name of the button, or something like short_ap1.lnk), that is just a shortcut to the app.
Just edit the shortcut; I open the lnk file with vieka wordpad...

HI
When one clicks the Start Menu/button in TF3D, a page with programs will open up instead of the WM start menu drop down.
My question is how does one assign one of the buttons to point to open a folder (eg Games Folder) instead of a program?
Thanks for reading and your help
This might help:

Thanks
Exactly what I was looking for. All is done manually but it didn't take so much time.
Thanks for your help.....
Will try it out....
Another thing - anyway to turn off the TF3D start menu and reactivate the standard WM dropdown start menu?
Thanks
I am not sure to understand exactly what you want.
If you want to unload tf3d please go in setup => personal => today => then in element unselect TouchFlo3D.
My Rom is in french so I am not sure about the translation. I attached some screenshot : it will be easier
he does not want to disable touchflo3d, when he goes to the touchflo3d startmenu he wants to assign one of the buttons there to open a map(out of the box you can only open programs in the start menu of touchflo3d))

It's easy
- Open your registry editor;
- HKLM - Software - HTC - EnlargeMenu - EnableManilaStartMenu (Change "1" to "0")
- Soft reset...
That's it No need to install any .cab or smthing...
Yes, it will be great if we can have both where Start menu still can be active w/ drop menu and the Windows key button still can be a short cut to program short cut menu.
Anyway to get both of this together since the Diamond2 tf3d menu does not have Program SHORT CUT menu but using the windows start function.
Is there any way to keep the WIndows button as the Program shortcut key & the WIndows Start menu as Drop-down menu.
If I change the value from 1 to 0, the program shortcut function under window button does not work anymore/
Pls help
Hi, anyone know how i can set my Topaz so that when I press x on the top right corner it closes the program and not just hide it in the background?
I was able to do this in settings somewhere with the previous official 2.1 rom, but I just changed to the new 2.53.709.3 official rom and I can no longer find the settings to do this.
Can anyone help me out?

Should be in Task manager (V3.1) settings. Menu\Options\Tabs and Buttons\Switch Minimize and Exit buttons.
The newer 6.5.3 builds have taken the task manager from the taskbar so I use QuickMenu which puts this functionality back
Or use this Task manager Cab.....Thanks to Aman, our Chef, missing in action right now.
thx that really helped a lot =) now my topaz can run smoothly without programs lagging it all the time~

If you are missing the settings UI (if you click on StartMenu\Settings and it brings you to the Manila settings tab), install this cab.
none of these apps appear to work, i have installed both, can find how to open the show settings app and the taskman 2.1 installes and loks great but it doesnt close the apps when i click x. i have set it up to do this also.
help!! pfone is running like a dog with 2 legs with all the apps open all the time.
First, the Showsettings app is a registry tweak that will enable your settings menu from the start menu instead of taking you to the settings tab in Manila.
Do not open it, install it from your device, its a a cab file.
Secondly, if you're on a 6.5.3 ROM where the start menu button is on the bottom bar, the taskmanager is disabled.
An alternativre solution as I previously mentioned would be to use QuickMenu which has a built in taskmamager and is accessible from the left side of the top bar.

not sure the M2.1 is the same with M2.5, in M2.5,
Start -> Settings -> System -> Task Manager, switch to the 'Button' tab, choose 'Enable the X button to end running programs', select the 1st one 'Eng programs by tapping X'
enjoy

I don't know anything about the ROM you are using but if it's based on WM 6.5 then this X button setting might not exist anymore. Try out AMeBa!
Try searching for your answer.

thanks for the answers, they are useful also for me. In fact I had installed task manager (Duttys), because it was not included in Sense 2.5, but I did not know that with task manager it was possible set the X button to close apps
Wisbar Advance will do the trick.
Ameba and Ameba Settings will be just fine
you can also set longpress on startbutton launching WM TaskManager (/windows/taskmgr.exe)
thanks guys
