Is there a benefit in available RAM and/or speed by applying the following procedure?
1) Unneeded apps such as widgets or e.g. the mail.apk are removed from a rom.zip (deleted from \system\app),
2) The rom is resigned copied to the device and flashed via recovery
Thank you very much in advance.

[Q] How do you remove Rom Addons?

Hey all, Im running Warm TwoPointTwo RLS5 on my Evo. Ive installed a few addons via Rom manager, but now I want to remove them. How do I remove optional addons and even kernals?
I had the same problem, and I could solve it via new rom installation
I'd like to uninstall something from my xperia too, but sounds like another fresh install will be needed :'(
Hey,
Which add-ons are you talking ? Apps ? Tweak packages ?
Tweaks. It was a camera replacement package, sorry for kinda hijacking the forum with my Xperia

Remove addons
In general the best way to remove addons that were added during root is the removal of all the parts and pieces through a file manager:
Total Commander
(Or)
Android Commander
*Please be careful: It is super easy to delete important system files, so just force quit everything, and live with the slower speed. Do not make the delete mistake, and possibly ruin your phone for good. You have been warned!

Titanium backup is capable not only to make backups, but also to remove any application, including the system applications and add-ons.
Root access required.

[Q] Help! Migrate from Stock ROM to Vipers ROM... some questions

Hello developers!!
I've some questions before migrating from stock ROM to vipers 1.6.3 ROM...
HTC SENSATION 4G / HBOOT 1.27.1111 s-off / Android 4.0.3 / Sense 3.6 / SW 3.32 /
Kernel?? I believe that is below "Create number" in the "Setings/About phone/SW info/More" menu
3.32.531.14 CL356011 release-keys
[Kernel stock?]
(Please notice me if I am correct!!!!)
Ok, it doesn't matter..
Only a few questions:
1. I know that I must use Titanium backup for make a backup of my apps and their information... But I've noticed in another threads/posts that this app doesn't function properly with custom roms (I don't know if is this really)...
So, ¿Is there another app like Titanium that allows me to make a backup of my apps?
Or, ¿Is possible to make a manual backup of my apps? (Without data: I believe, copy the /system/app [system apps] and /data/app [user apps] folders to sdcard //// With its data: ????).
2. Moreover, ¿Is possible to make a backup of my settings? Sure, settings like desktop icons distribution, general settings, contacts, etc...
3. ¿How compatible is the /data folder? I was thinking about don't format this partition in order to "save" my previous ROM settings.
Ok developers, that's all, hahahahahaah,,,, I'm waiting your answers as soon as possible because I want to proof the first custom Rom on my phone!!!!!!!1
Thank you very much!!!! Greets :fingers-crossed:

1) use nandroid backup from recovery mode to back up all files (system,data,cache...)
2)Since vipers ROM runs on ICS also, I don't think you need to format your partitions.

[DISCONTINUED] ROM Max Flavour for ZTE V967S v5

DISCONTINUED.
DISCLAIMER:
Rooting your phone and using custom Recoveries and ROMS have risks and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturers. In case of any mishap I am not responsible if you brick/ruin your phone in any way.
Basic computer skills are required and minimal knowledges about phones and phones utilities too.
Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.
Max Flavour is an optimized ROM, prepared from 1.0.5 stock version.
Update 12.02.2014
- built again from scratch
- fast, smooth and stable
- multilingual (as all my ROMs)
- improved and optimized
- deodexed, zipaligned, init.d support
First boot will take a little bit more time because of the deodexed system, but be patient.
Update 24.11.2013 CHANGELOG
- added version Max Flavour Slim 4.2 with stock launcher replaced by Touchwiz launcher at your request.
=> This version has to be installed with a clean install.Update 16.11.2013 CHANGELOG
- fixed shutanimation loop and also bootanimation.
- hide big 3G/G network type icons from status bar.
- add email and browser alternative apps.
- cleaned up build.prop.
=> This version can be installed over the previous but clean cache and dalvik cache before install.Update 12.11.2013 CHANGELOG
- new implementation of the stock ROM base with translations from official Mediatek language folders. This version is more accurate, but not all languages are translated complete, so you have to accept that.
- various fixes: brightness and autobrightness, screen colors and depth, GPS (new fix), network, tethering, sounds, callerID matching, and some others.
- fixed computer connection as USB Mass storage in any windows (no ZTE drivers needed).
- optimizations for ram, kernel, cache.
- more speed and smoothness.
- some UI improvements, like autohide empty SIM symbol, wallpapers.
- for GPS all needed files are included.
- for adblocker, the hosts file is properly configurated.
Gapps are included in essential version. You can flash "Gapps to complete zip" to get full suite.
INSTALL INSTRUCTION:
To flash a new ROM properly, you need one of my recoveries (for these I'm sure they works).
1. Reboot to recovery.
2. Do a nandroid backup or backup in cwm.
3. mount USB Mass Storage and delete from sdcard these three directories:
.android_secure
Android
LOSTDIR
4. Copy ROM zip or zips on sdcard
5. Eject mass storage from computer and then unmount in recovery
6. wipe all/factory reset or pre-flash wipe in recovery
7. wipe or erase dalvik cache
8. flash zip from sdcard, choose ROM zip, flash it and reboot, or if you flash my ROM version 3.3, the phone will reboot itself.
That's all, this is the correct way to flash any new ROM in any phone thru recovery.
QUICK GPS FIX:
If you want to quick fix gps, do all steps from this post, without downloading MobileUncle - is already installed in ROM.
For extending data partition, please refer to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44321463&postcount=3
For downloads check post #3.

friend, is just an idea.Your custom Rom is wonderful, works fine, but could you make a clean rom ? there are applications that you install on your custom rom and I not use.

If is not a system app you can uninstall it from settings apps downloaded.
If is a system app, easy way is to use ESFileManager as root explorer and R/W Mounted all, access /system/app, select unwanted apk and corespondent odex and delete. After that reboot and done. But, gapps apps tends to FC if are not all installed (especially in JB), Facebook and tweeter won't work if they are not in system, and any other app I put there has a specific purpose. And you don't know how many people ask me for facebook, tweeter, g-plus, etc. I don't use any of these, and neither gapps, but I have to put in ROM what most of users want. Also, there is an app on playstore, Rom Customizer that let you uninstall system apps in a correct way, even they are odexed.

Try to exclude MobileUncle when you do old backup, or delete it first, because in new version I put a modded version of MobileUncle. I decompiled app to remove chinese gps fix, and replaced with european one.
Now, when you start MobileUncle, in Power gps menu if you initiate GPS set it will load european fix version.
And other thing you have to do, download the ROM again. Seems that yesterday links were corrupted somehow (during upload or in Drive, I don't know), MobileUncle and Ygps lost their permissions and even they are in ROM, don't start. I checked after someone pointed that to me, and I uploaded links again. Now they are ok.

No, it doesn't. It's a simple app with fewer option than stock camera, but I think it slightly increase photos quality. But I provided solution to restore stock camera.

You can change that if you install xposed framework of rovo89 and gravity box module of C3C076, but I modded specialy that with full charging animation, so it's no need to activate battery percentage from settings to see battery state. I changed correspondent xmls to provide full range. In stock version that covers only few stages, 0-15-28-43-57-71-85-100. I added suport for 0-1-2-3........-100 like in cyanogenmod.

Hi, wow very interesting!!! I have never used this before,(gravity box module / xposed framework)
That is the tool I was looking for, many thanks :good::good::good:
The rom is very smooth, and very faster loading his icons, now i gonna try to increase userdata partition.
1 question, on a system with 2.5 userdata when you flash a new normal rom do the userdata back to normal or stay the userdata on 2.5?

If the new ROM is a normal one your partition will remain 2.5 (check zip without unpacking and see if there is EBR1 and EBR2 inside - if you see these check ROM specifications, because these binaries are for extending data partition or for restore to normal). If inside ROM zip there isn't any EBR, you are safe, it's normal ROM, and you can flash it with no impact for data partition.
thanks my friend for new release 3.3
I want to ask about
2. Do a nandroid backup or backup in cwm.
3. mount USB Mass Storage and delete from sdcard
these three directories:

Android
LOSTDIR
how to do a full backup in CWM? give us details
and I mount usb mass storage and I am in CWM. How to delete these 3 folders ?
you have the camera from which model of Lenovo? is it better than stock camera?

(list) cm11 "apps safe to remove"

Hi All
I have been trying to slim my CM11, getting rid of unnecessary apps that i feel are taking up valuable space on my “mini”.
After hours of Google searches and many trial n error Rom flashes, I have came up with a comprehensive list of “apps” that are safe to remove". Some of my info was found on CM’s WIKI(that was based on cm10.1) page but most was down to laborious ROM flashing and testing.
***THIS CAN ALSO BE USED WITH OTHER CM BASED ROMS SUCH AS SLIMKAT,PAC-MAN, LUNGO ETC**
Most will know this BUT for those that don’t this is how i slim it down.
1. Download Rom
2. Extract the Rom
3. Delete All that you don’t want or need
4. Copy over your apk’s into the relevant folders
5. Highlight META-INF,System,Boot & File_contexts, Right click and send to zip
6. Copy your zip (renaming if you want) to phone and flash.
View attachment 2871025
**needs updating, removing some apps may cause other apps/process to fail up to build m7 **
Hope it Helps
HIT "THANKS" IF ITS HELPED, CHEERS
Thanks man :good:
Yes thats a comprehensive list alright, thanks & nice work - appreciated!

How much RAM and Flash did it saved you to removed all the apps you suggested?
I not suggesting to remove all of them, if you did you would have a pretty useless phone. Some of the ones I removed I replaced with other apps... Some of the other apps were larger in size, some were smaller. For example I removed appollo and replaced it with power amp.... No point having a second music app on my phone taking up space I will never use.
Thanks very much for that list, it's very interesting! I keep removing apps I don't use on CM, I hope I'll be able to help you enhance your file.
That's sad, team Cyanogenmod should add their apps as a separate package, as some of us are trying to get a minimalistic Android to use with our favorite apps.
Thanks for the your feedback, it's appreciated. Yeah I really need to sit down and update this, as there are new apk's such as "cmhome" (amongst others) that I need to add. Was thinking about trying to make an aroma de-bloater for cm based roms... But... There hasn't been much response to this thread, albeit over 3900 views. Feel free to take the existing list, add or amend as you wish. Cheers

as i mentioned earlier, i need to update the list. you can delete theme provider if your not bothered about changing theme, otherwise keep it!
the easiest way to slim it down is to remove some of the audio. eg ringtones, notifications etc. as most of them are crap and doubt you will use them. cheers
M8 brings several changes in the apps. I tested some stuff (updated M8 from M7) :
CMAccount.apk may cause problems (removed it, then added it again and going back to home was running first time assistant).
Lockclock.apk can't be removed anymore, it causes androidui error at boot (up to M7 it could be removed) because there's no way anymore to disable it. You can delete it, but at start there's at least one message box to close.
I removed lots of safe apps, but no way, I got random bugs :
Apollo, Basic Dreams, Browser, CellBroadcastReceiver, CMFileManager, CMWallpapers, DownloadProviderUI, DSPManager, Email, Exchange2, Galaxy4, LatinIME, Mms, PhaseBeam, VideoEditor, VoicePlus, WhisperPush.
I eventually went back to M7, it caused too many bugs for me (FC at start, random wallpaper errors, ...).
I think I'm going to build a M8 zip with all apks I don't want in a bak folder, add some GApps and some of my apps/data and flash from full wipe, I guess the M8 needs to regarding problems I have with...
---------- Post added at 07:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:10 PM ----------
Oh, by the way I guess I may script a cleaner. It would be easier for me and I would share it with no problem.
Just make sure you've ADB, debugging enabled, USB cable and pop corn

Yupp! But if you remove lockclock.Apk and deskclock.Apk you lose clock on homescreen and locksreen, I left them in as I think most folk use them. I also noticed if you replace them with 3rd party ones from play store they tend to have higher battery drain. Cheers

Very sorry to reawaken this thread.
It states "Move preferred apk to zip before flashing the rom." What do you mean by that?
I want to replace the stock keyboard & stock file manager,
so I just have to replace the LatinIME.apk & CMFileManager.apk with respective apks?
No need for changing the new-keyboard name to "LatinIME.apk"
or
Make any changes in the code, as in change the default code which points to LatinIME as the default and instead map it to new-keyboard,
Right?
Also, can I delete WAPPushManager, UserDictionaryProvider & CellBroadcastReceiver?
Sorry for the trouble.

How to debloat a stock ROM?

Hi guys, I'd like to debloat the latest 5.1 Lollipop Rom for my XT1032 but I don't know how, I tried to run it normally but it takes too much RAM and my phone has become too slow...
I'm running an older version now but it's no longer supported and I'm afraid of all the new threats, I don't want to switch to Marshmallow because I'm looking for something to "install and never touch it again" and that version is still too frequently updated.
Thanks for your time.
Hey I always use titanium backup to remove stock apps to clear space. Also check out minimal os it's a nice lite lollipop rom

This is not exactly stock but Omni - I always use it as a guide on what to debloat my omnirom. You could still use this as a guide. Use System App Remover to remove the unwanted apps.
Credit the app-to-be-removed photo to @ice_ice in his thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sam...mplete-optimization-guide-omni-rom-4-t3027575 )
the thread by lost101 on debloated stock ROMs did have a list of apps that could be safely removed without impacting any functionality, though i cant seem to find the list in that thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-lollipop-rom-t3017510
the services that you can get rid of are found in the following post in the same thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63024406&postcount=2501
