Has anyone tried tackling the issue of allowing MMS while on Wi-Fi? I hooked up the debug (ddms) and when I attempt it shows that it opens up a successful 3G connection but then unexpectedly closes it with an error "unknown data error".
But DDMS confirms that a 3G pipe was opened up while on Wi-Fi. My guess its something directly in the Mms.apk but that's as far as I got.
I know MMS over Wifi isn't a biggy but hell it's still something

Hi Guys, just receivied my NEW HTC Touch Pro and I must say... WOW! Was very surprised on how small it was. Anyway, put my SIM in (AT&T US) and charged the battery... Powered it up... It decovered my AT&T service and calls & text messages have NOT been a problem however, it says I am connected to EDGE for DATA but for some reason every time I try to set up my exchange, or surf the web under opera it will show the edge symbol connecting and it does get connected but I receive an error under both active sync and opera. IE will try to load a page and just and it will say it is opening the page but then just stop loading with a blank white screen. Could this be a proxy thing..? Has anyone seen or experienced this? I am using the stock ROM from the unlocked unit.
UPDATE: Sorry about that guys... I had to disable the proxy and I know that AT&T had proxy issues in the past but I thought I would need to configue it first in order for the DATA to work. All I did was uncheck the proxy for internet. By unchecking this, does anything else work or not work..?
go the connections tab in settings -> then Connections -> Advance -> Select Networks then on the first dropdown box make sure there is selected a connection that allows a connection to the internet without filtering ports (eg WAP connections filter most ports)
if this does not do any good it may be something with the proxies but there i don't know how to help
Funny, after I disabled the proxy (unchecked proxy for internet) I was able to get DATA thru active sync, youtube, internet, etc... but I still can NOT get the MMS to work. All the MMS settings under the server settings for MMS are correct and it will get to 100% but then just put the message in the out box. It will try to send 2 more times and then I will get an error message that says: Forbidden. Same thing when I try to receive MMS's. I can see the header for the MMS but can't d/l it. Anyone manage to get MMS working in the US..? I did try to configure the proxy under connections but as soon as I check the proxy tab, all data shuts down.
So I was playing with my phone today and i started getting a "cannot connect" message.
Message is as follows:
Dialed: isp.cingular
Cannot connect for an unknown reaso. To check you connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again
Now - I haven't changed any server/host/proxy information. I setup the wep key for my offices wireless network but haven't really changed anything else. 3g internet appears to work but I get this message when I use things like the google maps app.. Any thoughts or links??

anyone...?
Alright.. did a hard reset and that fixed it..
When I go from WIFI to 3g/4g, it takes up to a minute for the check mark under H to disappear... during this period, apps can't connect to the Internet (and I get a connection failed error message) It is merely a hiccup but I wondered if this is a common issue and if there's any fix. It does this from all wifi connections I've tested.
I also have problems connecting to market when switching to wifi on occasion. No issue connecting to market on 3g.
I am on stock rooted ATTn1 rom.
OK, I stumbled on what seems to be a fix.
I went to APNs. The only one listed was MEdia Net.
I hit the menu button and pressed Reset to default.
It created a new locked APN called MMS. MEdia Net remained selected.
I exited APNs and went and turned off WIFI. 3g data immediately came on (up and down arrows) with no delay.
Anyone understand why this worked? Hope this helps someone in the future.
Hi,
I'm having problem sending and receiving MMS. I do not have a monthly broadband package but sign up on it on weekly basis. Because of this, I have configured a single APN with both internet and mms configuration. If I want to use it for both internet and mms, I'll change the APN type to "internet + mms" and if I want to use it for mms only, I'll change it to "mms". I have to do this as if I disable "Use packet data", Android won't be able to send/receive any MMS.
This configuration has been working fine for Android 2.1 and 2.2.
Here's my situation
Configure APN type to "mms", with "Use packet data" enabled.
Restart phone.
Try sending/receiving MMS. Result: failed with message "Service not available"
Configure APN type to "internet + mms", with "Use packet data" enabled.
Configure APN type to "mms", with "Use packet data" enabled.
Phone will now disconnect from internet.
Try sending/receiving MMS. Result: passed.
Restart phone.
Try sending/receiving MMS. Result: failed.
Repeat steps 4 to 7 and the result for 7 is passed.
As you can see, after a restart, the MMS stops functioning and I must configure the APN type to internet at least once. Also, if I leave the APN type to "internet + mms", I have no problem receiving/sending MMS.
The question now is, is this a bug in Gingerbread? or is it a bug in the ROM I'm using? If this is a bug in Gingerbread, is there any gurus out there who can write a start-up script to perform steps 4 to 5?
Thanks in advance.
I really need a solution to this problem too!!! Only samsung has that problem I think....
Could be a problem in Gingerbread actually. My G2 worked fine with MMS before updating to Gingerbread and it has occasional issues now (it appears to be random for me though).
Does it always happen for you or is it random as well?
I've had this problem for many months now and only recently trotted to go too there store where I got my phone from to fix it, but they can't figure it out either. Suggested I send it away. I've done all the basic steps and have properly configured internet and mms apns with no luck.

Hi all,
I'm running the 8107 build on my unlocked v1.4 Samsung Focus.
For some reason, when I'm connected to WiFi, I'm unable to send MMS messages - when doing so, I receive a "Can't send message Try again" error.
If I disable WiFi at that point (revert to 3G) and try to resend the msg, it is sent without issue.
Whatdya' think?
Thanks!
Are you turning cellular data off and then going to wifi? You need cellular data on to send MMS. MMS can't be done over wifi.

Nope - phone just picks up the WiFi connection automatically (as it's been previously connected).
My wife has a non-unlocked v1.3 Focus, and she has no issues sending MMS when connected to the same WiFi network (?)
i have the same problem with my htc 7 pro. but i found out that it has nothing to do with wifi, the mms of wp7 are concepted only to use 3g and not wifi internet connection, it has something to do with the MMSC server where the messages come in from your device. and MMS and SMS look similar but are two different systems in message delivery.
an other way to send it over wifi is with an email to the recipient in this form [email protected] PTN is public telephone number and the carrier name is carrier specific... thats the only way sending over wifi/http.
