FpseCE 1.0 Metal gear solid - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

hi ppl ive just been messing around with the new Fpsece emulator for the hd2, however when i try to play metal gear solid i get the sound consistantly looping. On top of that the game seems to be running extra fast.
Has anyone had similar problems and if so is there a fix for it?
thanks in advance

i have metal gear solid here but i didnt make it a pocketiso rom so far. go check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606698 sooner or later i will post a video about that game aswell. for the sound issue go check fpsece forum ... there are tons of threads about that

yh ive tryed some of there suggestions with no luck. Im also using an uncompressed version. What settings and plugins did u use to get the game running smoothly?

LastSPU=0peopspu109.dll => remove the 0
and try
EnableHLE=off => ON
RunSPUsync=off => ON
UseOtherMDEC=off => ON
Please try the one after the other, not all of them at the same time, if it changes nothing for MGS, PLEASE SET BACK THE ORIGINAL VALUE or it may crash many other games
One of these tricks is supposed to be the good one for MGS
tryed this several times , no luck

anyone got any other ideas?

Hmmm....now that I have an HD2, I'll check it out, this game is particularly hard to run, but I got it working under Schtruck instructions, so ut's possible, I now have to remember the correct settings

thanks i900frenchaddict, i look forward to ur update

i know this post is old as hell but... it seems people still have trouble with mgs on hd2.
so so... heres a lil help which WILL HELP YOU for sure.
this is for 0.11 supporter version of the emulator so don't ask me about official 0.10.
1) run one time Metal Gear Solid
2) select in menu option External SPU and SPUsync.
3) Exit
4) open the ini file of MetalGear Solid into CFG directory
5) at the bottom of the file is the config of PEOPSU, configure like that:
[SPUPeops]
UseXA=1
Volume=1
XAPitch=0
UseTimer=2
SPUIRQWait=1
DebugMode=0
RecordMode=0
UseReverb=0
UseInterpolation=0
DisStereo=0
UseDBufIrq=0
Don't forget to download and install new core package which is linked into the email you received. it include the last version of peopspu109.dll.
Now you can run perfectly with MetalGear Solid, use Overclock function to get good speed.
(copied this tip from official fpsece forums, posted by "schtruck" himself)
So MGS runs just fine. k? =)
cheers!

finally, confirmed working perfectly no sound or video bugs thanks for the info.

Help! Can't find a working SNES Emulator after hours of searching

Hey guys, I know you'll tell me to search, but I've searched all of the boards for the HTC Touch Pro, Diamond, and even the Tilt and I simply can't find an emulator that actually works right on my HTC Touch Pro. Here's what I've tried:
PocketSNES 1.12.200 - Freezes when I load a rom.
PocketSNES 1.53 - Glitches on basically every single rom or crashes.
Morphgear 2.4.0.9 - Extremely tiny and the menu glitches in landscape mode.
Can someone please tell me what emulators and what versions they're using? I'm having the worst time finding a practical emulator that works on the HTC Touch Pro.
Thanks in advance.
Update
Best version of PocketSNES for the Touch Pro (thanks Snakie): n0p's PocketSNES WM5,VGA-compatible Build (02.02.07)
Fix for mapping the hardware keyboard keys (thanks Dilta): Dilta's KforTouchPro 1.0.0.3
have you searched here? i think not, theres a few thread around
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
Thanks for your helpful reply, Brendo! However, I searched this entire forum and tried different versions of emulators as recommended for hours upon hours. All I see are people saying it works, while not really giving specific information on how to get it going. And the ones that do give specific information don't even come close to how they describe it.
Can anyone who's got an SNES emulator to run on the HTC Touch Pro please respond?
in for someone who has an answer cause i cannot find one either
I've also looked around for a few hours and wasn't able to find anything that worked. I found one called smartgear(2577) which looked promising but it doesn't recognize the .smc filetype yet. Hopefully someone here knows of one that will work well with our Touch Pros.
is it true that morphgear is freeware? the version I got expires after 5 minutes of play
the one found here is working on my Sprint TP
http://n0p.tonych.info/?PocketSNES
I dl'd the "WM5,VGA-compatible Build (02.02.07)" file
extracted the contents and copied them over to my storage card.
I had to make sure all my roms had the .smc extension for the program to see them.
Am I correct in guessing that that famous emulator is slow as heck on our Touch Pro's?
I'd used the QVGA version with my 624mhz 6700 (oc'ed) and it was barely playable. I've since given up on a playable version of windows mobile snes.
Someone earlier had suggested there was a SNES version for the Diamond that used opengl drivers - and thus would be faster, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
Thanks for the n0p one. I just tried it out and it's the most usable one I've come across. Although i wish the button mapping would work with the slide-out keyboard. Almost every button I try to assign is set to "0x5e" regardless of the letter pressed on the keyboard. I'm also using Sprint.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2850031
I gotta try these because I need my emulation.
I looked into that other forum, morphgear was already listed and doesn't work well at all. All the pocketsnes verisons are pretty iffy as well, the best imo is the n0p verison although that isn't spectacular either. I wish there was something else out there..

Thanks for the specifics, Snakies. I remember trying this one but I had it in a weird video mode that was glitchy (Landscape right stretched) and figured the emulator was just messed up. But if I run it in normal Landscape Right it works like a charm. Thanks for the confirmation!
Also, to someone who posted in here earlier, there's a post that has a program for the TP that temporarily changes the input mode on the keyboard to make it compatible with older Pocket PC apps. Here's the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2791652&postcount=36
So Snaky, can you share what settings your using? I'm using the defaults with Landscape Right and it works well, but I'd like to get rid of that controller skin on the side if possible.
Awesome! Thank you
this version of snes emulator is much better than before.... but its still... super slow and laggy. is it running perfectly for anyone? if so, what are your settings?
It runs very well for me. Just be sure to disable sound. Now what i am really curious about is if anyone has gotten the gba emulator to run at decent speeds
The link is dead for "n0p's PocketSNES WM5,VGA-compatible Build (02.02.07)" that was recommended in the first post & by Snakie.
Can someone share this file or perhaps an updated link ?
Thanks.
Currenly I'm using Morphgear but the performance is not great. Would like to try this.
Can someone please send me nops snes emulator? the link doesnt work. Im not sure what version I have but when I load a rom it all freezes and nothing happens. The link is down and Ive tried googling for the emulator and they all refer to the same link, I even tried rapidshare and torrents and Im getting nothing.

Worked for me, but just a little slow, and the controls don't really work without a dpad. What ROM are you running and what error did it give you?

how did you manage to get it working? and running which game? i tried metal slug X , because its a small (64mb) but it crashes immediately when i click the .bin file.
I put my bios in my bios folder, my games in the iso folder, and it worked
Can You share Your bios file and what game are You running?
Running FF7(great game btw) and I would love to share the BIOS files, but that is sadly illegal. Search around the nets, and you will easily find them. Or you can dump the bios from your playstation if you have one. I tried that once, and it went wrong, it isn't an easy procedure
Hi guys. I just see that excelent program. I dint imagine that exist. The problem is that i dont know how to make it work. What i have to download and how i will make it work? i have the htc blackstone, with this rom RUU_Duttys_HD_WM6.5_Leo_Holy_Grail_R0. Can you help me please????
i am having a problem too when i try to run it..it says that i need mmore than 16mb of ram to run it but nothing else is running.
any one any ideas
@ jonathanfoster
Maybe the game that you are trying to open is to large, try a different one. If not, try using a different bios if possible. If that doesn't work, try a different version, or maybe the game is bad
@ nikosfa
Bios goes in bios folder. .iso and .bin games go in games folder. click on the executable from the device, and done.
I couldn't get version 0.9.5 working so I downloaded newest 0.9.6 beta of the emulator. Digimon World 1 and 3 ran almost perfectly... just little fps drop in fights. I also tried Gran Turismo and it was very playable.
i cant use the directional pad because its going to the left even without touching it
hi lads. can someone explane step by step haw to EnableHLE=off and use bios file. thanks
ups sorry wrong section
Just want to say thanks schtruck.
I'm enjoying fpse since the release date.
All the ui option and gfx- game fixes are most appreciateed.
The latest version with screen positioning and pad positioning
is awsome on my desire HD.
Catch ya later.
FPse is the best emulator there is and 2,99 is really no money. Tried like 20 games, all work super well!!

xperia play help please

hi,just got one of these swapped my iphone 4 for it,is it worth putting the emulator FPSE on my phone ive checked the update and im up to date and is it a lot of hassle installing this to my phone and can it brick it ???
Just download fpse using the android market and I don't see how it could brick your phone as it's just another app.
hi,im new to this phone & im hoping i made a good choice swapping my beloved iphone 4 for this,so far i like it but the brightness is terrible is there a way of making it brighter as its very dull,and how do u get the games once u install fpse ?
Proof indeed that owning an iPhone melts your brain!
1) Install fpse
2) Google "playstation iso"
3) Download games you already own, (obtaining games you have never bought is illegal)
4) Follow the fps bios instructions, follow all legalities
5) Run the game
6) Have some fun
Once you get used to the emulator scene you will love it. If you aren't able to follow instructions very well and occasionally do your own research on guides already written, and do indeed come to the conclusion you have an iphone 4 brain washed grey matter residing in your skull, then go back to the iphone
hi,i purchased fpse but ive forgot what the bios instructions are ?
it came up when i first started the app but it no longer comes up when i start it,should have bloody wrote it down any ideas please ?
It should be in the settings. You point fpse to the bios file.
settings inside fpse ? if so i dont have settings inside the app
You should be able to press the menu button (between home and search) and from there go to settings.
U have to download a bios file called scp1001 something like that, and move it in the directory of where your ps roms are kept, hope this helped

Chainfire 3d problems

Hello, i've got a problem when im using chainfire 3d pro v3.3, since i can't load any of the o3d games like shadow guardian 3d, backstab 3d, eternal legacy 3d etc... I've got no idea what im doing wrong. I've installed all the 3 plugins and didn't set any special thing yet.
If its matters the phone is on ginger GB baseband, 2.6.1 prada with its kernel
Any help would be highly appreciated
Thanks forward
I don,t understand what your problem is but if you mean chainfire is not working for you then it is just because you didn't set anything special on ot. You don't just.install it and the plug ins and then expect it to work just like that. You need to set it for every game seperately. For example if u want to play a tegra game you should go to plugins menu of chainfire and set it to use tegra plugin.Sometimes u need to check other options such as reduce textures etc. But only if the game does not work qoth just the plugin. Also in pro version (not on pirated pro versions though) you can set perapp so that every time you launch an app it autosets to the preconfigured settings for that app. Else u need to set it manualy through plugins menu everytime you run the app. Last don't forget to set plugin to none when u are done playing the game or it remains in the last chosen state (eg tegra) which may cause problems. Sry for my bad english,but i hope u understand and that I was helpful
Well then i wasnt really clear with the problems description. Ive ment on that i didnt set any special that ive tested all the 3 plugins with every games above, but after these games launches its just simply quits after a few secs. I guess the rest of the options are for increase the performance of the game u ran at the momment. So thats why i didnt really bothered them all.
But anyway thanks for the suggestion but i already passed/tried them.

try reducing texture size after setting the desired plugin. many games require that as well.

[PORT] Quake 1 on FTEDroid (w/ gkp profiles for newer & older GameKeyboard apps)

--THREAD REQUESTED TO BE CLOSED 6/23/17 DUE TO BEING UNABLE TO MAINTAIN THREAD OR PROVIDE SUPPORT TO QUESTIONS --
Hi All,
I've created this thread to share information on an Android port of the FTE QuakeWorld client called FTEDroid. (Scroll down for download links, installation, and setup instructions). The app is free to download and use and it allows you to to play Quake 1 in Singleplayer/Multiplayer modes. If you use Gamekeyboard+, you can play using the Xperia Play's slide out game controls rather than using the touchscreen. (Also... it may be able to run other versions of Quake, but I haven't got around to trying yet).
Along with the FTEDroid info, I'm sharing 2 Gamekeyboard gkp profiles that I mapped out. The first one is for the newer "Gamekeyboard +" app v. 6.0.0, that is currently available through the Google Play Store. The 2nd gkp is for the older Gamekeyboard app v 4.0.1 that I thought some of you may still have on your phones. (See the Gamekeyboard setup instructions below for the download links).
FTE developer "Spike", (who developed FTEDroid), has done an awesome job with this port. He and the FTE team all deserve a HUGE thanks for their hard work. I've tried several other ports for Quake 1 and this is the smoothest and best performing one that I've tried so far. I'm really hoping that some other Xperia Play owners will give this a shot and provide suggestions and feedback. I also think it would be a blast to try to set up some Multiplayer Quake sessions with anyone interested, so please try this out and give some feedback.
(Below are some actual screen shots of Quake 1 running on FTEDroid, taken from my Xperia Play).

DISCLAIMER:
None of these steps or suggestions should harm your phone. However, if you choose to follow the steps in this thread and install any of the linked files, then you are choosing to take full responsibility for any bad things that could happen to your phone. Please don't proceed with the below steps if you don't agree with this and are not comfortable with using root apps that modify your phone. (Gamekeyboard needs root to work with this gkp, but you can use FTEDroid with touchscreen if you're not rooted).
(IMPORTANT) You should own a copy of the Quake 1 game to run it on FTEDroid, as you need the PAK0 and PAK1 game data files for the game to work. I'm not able to supply the PAK files to you, as they are copyrighted by id Software. If you don't own the game, you can do an Internet search and buy the original Quake 1 from Steam as a direct download (it's currently about 10 USD). You can also obtain the PAK files by purchasing an original Quake 1 installation CD off of eBay, and then copying the PAK files from the CD over to your SD card. I've seen just the original Quake on eBay for as cheap as $5, but I purchased a Windows version of “Ultimate Quake” off of eBay for $25 USD (and it includes Quake 1, 2, and 3). I was able to insert the CD into my laptop, open “My Computer”, right click on the CD/DVD location, and then explore the CD's contents without needing to install the game to my computer. I located the PAK files by going into the Setup folder, then going into the ID1 folder.
-------------------------------------------------
STEP A.
Instructions to set up FTEDroid – adapted from this website: http://wiki.quakeworld.nu/FTEDroid
1. Download and install the FTEDroid apk onto your phone. (You must enable installation of “Unknown Sources” in your phone's settings to be able to install the apk). You can grab the FTEDroid apk from a download link at the above referenced wiki website: ( http://wiki.quakeworld.nu/FTEDroid )
2. Connect your Xperia Play to your computer with a USB cable. On the root of your SD card, create a file folder named fte. Then within the fte folder, create another folder named id1. (Make sure to use lower case letters, as this is important).
3. Copy the files “PAK0.PAK” and “PAK1.PAK” into the id1 folder that you created on your SD card.
4. After doing these steps, you should be able to open the FTEDroid app and run Quake on your Xperia Play. When it first starts up, choose whichever Graphic Preset you want. I've been using “Normal (Faithful)” and it works good for me.
-------------------------------------------------
STEP B.
Detailed Setup Instructions for GameKeyboard+ (version 6.0) for Quake1 using FTEDroid and the linked gkp profile: (use the alternate gkp down below if you have an older GameKeyboard app).
**If you don't own Gamekeyboard +, you can purchase it from Google Play at this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.locnet.gamekeyboard2&hl=en
1. Download the gkp profile from this link and save it on your SD card: LINK REMOVED - as I am no longer able to provide support to this thread.
2. If this is the first time you are opening the GameKeyboard + app, then click "Not Now" when it prompts you to "skip soft keyboard and choose stand alone mode."
3. Now follow steps 1 and 2 on the GameKeyboard main setup screen to enable it as the active Input Method
4. For “Input Device”, set it to “Keyboard/Digital Gamepad”
5. For “Usage Mode,” enable the “Show Qwerty” setting, (you'll want the Qwerty keyboard to pop up later when playing the game so you can type in the Game Console). (**Also make sure that “Emulate Keyboard” is chosen).
6. Now go to "Settings" and enable "Use Advance Input". (This will likely prompt Superuser to ask you to grant permission if this is first time running GameKeyboard).
7. Scroll up a little and enable "Alternate Key Detect"
8. Now go to "Import Profile" and import the Quake1-FTEDroid3.gkp. Then go to "Save Profile" to save it, and finally go to "Load Profile" to load it - (you should be able to just load it in the future after you do these steps the first time).
9. Now scroll down and uncheck the box for "Use Hot Key" to disable it.
10. Then scroll all the way to bottom and go into "Internal Options. Make sure the boxes are checked for "8-way D-Pad," "Show Start and Select," "Show Analog Stick," "Remap Hardkey," "Show Keyboard First," and "Use Analog. "
11. *This step is important-- Go to "Custom and Test" in the main GameKeyboard setup screen... this will pop up the game controls. Then touch quickly in the very center of the virtual onscreen "Dpad." Now go to "Rotation" and select Left rotation. (Now use the back button to back out of the GameKeyboard app and go on to Step C).
-------------------------------------------------
STEP B - ALTERNATE DOWNLOAD/ SETUP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE OLDER GAMEKEYBOARD v.4.0.1
(The left touchpad does work with this gkp, but I gave up (for now) on trying to get the right one to work. All of the other controls are mapped the same as the gkp for the newer Gamekeyboard app above).
1. Download the gkp profile from this link and save it on your SD card: LINK REMOVED - as I am no longer able to provide support to this thread
2. Now follow steps 1 and 2 on the GameKeyboard main setup screen to enable it as the active Input Method
3. Now go into settings and in "Quick Setup", choose "Xperia Play->Touchscreen"
4. In settings, scroll down to "Import Profile" and import the file "Quake1-FTEDroid-v401b.gkp" from where you saved it on your SD card. Then go to "Save Profile" to save it, and finally go to "Load Profile" to load it - (you should be able to just load it in the future after you do these steps the first time).
5. Now, scroll through these different settings to make sure they are all enabled:
__8 way D-pad
__Show Start & Select
__Show Analog Stick
__Remap Hardkey
__Go into Customize Layout and make sure that "Enable Custom Layout" is enabled
__Show Warning
__Use Advance Input
__Use Analog
6. Make sure to disable "Touch Screen Mode" by removing the check box next to it. Now use the back button to back out of the GameKeyboard app.
-------------------------------------------------
STEP C.
Last Step is to make a couple small changes within the Quake 1 game's configuration settings.
Boot up into the Quake 1 Main Game Menu, then scroll down to “Options,” and select it by pressing the X hard key. Now select "Customize Controls" and scroll down to "Attack." Now press the X hard key and it should say “Press Key” to let you change the binding setting for “Attack.” Press the X key again to map "Attack" to the actual X hard key on the phone.
**I would also advise going into the game's Video Options and increasing the Contrast. This makes the game look much better on our phones. Just Apply Settings afterwards and it should stick after you back out to the main menu again. Now just use the back button to go back to the main menu.
~~~~ THAT'S IT! You should now be able to play Quake 1 on your Xperia Play with the hard key game controls ~~~~
-------------------------------------------------
Here's how the Xperia Play Hard Keys are mapped:
“Directional Buttons”-- Up and Down are mapped to walk forward and backward, Left and right turn the character left and right.
“Left touchpad” will move the character forwards, backwards, left, and right. (should work on both gkp's)
“Right touchpad” pans the character's view around in the game -- this does NOT work with the gkp for the older GameKeyboard app v. 4.0.1. (I'm having a hard time with the touchpad controls being too sensitive and difficult for me to control. But, I mapped them out just in case others want to use them or want to try to improve on them).
“Triangle” key is mapped to "Jump/Swim Up"
“X” key is "Attack"
“Square” key is mapped to "Look Up"
“Circle” key is mapped to "Look Down"
“Select” key is mapped to "swim down"
“Start” key is mapped to switch weapon
“Left (L back shoulder)” key is mapped to Step Left
“Right (R back shoulder )” key is mapped to Step Right
“Volume up” key shows info on progress/stats within the game
“Volume down” key should toggle between the Gamekeyboard controls and the Qwerty Keyboard
“Menu” key pulls down the Game Console (it should also pull down the Qwerty Keyboard to let you type in the console if you set it to show Qwerty in the Gamekeyboard+ settings)
“Back” button brings you back to the Main Game Menu where you can load/save the game, change options, etc...
-------------------------------------------------
Definitely going to have to try this!! Is it possible to run mods on here, too? I would love to be able to play Laser Arena on my Xperia!
That's great! Please give some feedback after you try it out and share what you think about it. I'd also appreciate it if you could let me know if you like the way the Gamekeyboard profile is set up. I'm still pretty new to gaming on the Xperia Play and I mapped out the gpk to what seemed most comfortable for me. If there's a better way to get the controls set up for the Xperia Play, I'm open to changing things around.
Also, I'm going to try to upload an additional gkp that would work with the older Gamekeyboard v 4.0.1. I know that some people still have the older Gamekeyboard apps and would probably like to use that rather than the newer version.
As far as the mods question.... I'm not sure about other mods, but I don't think FTEDroid will run Laser Arena. I checked out your link and tried to run the game with FTEDroid tonight. It gave an error that said "Server is using protocol version 18, which is not supported by this version of FTE Quakeworld. (see the below screenshot from my phone). Maybe there's some other Android port out there that would run Laser Arena... it looks like a fun game .
I've never used Gameboard before. I see the Play site says it works on Xperia Play for Gingerbread. I'm running SlimBean, which I think runs Jellybean. Any idea if it'll still work?
I'll look into that server version thing. Maybe it can be patched to become compatible in some way.
That would be cool if you could figure out a way to patch things so it would work. :thumbup:
You probably did the same thing, but I searched the SlimBean thread, LuPus V3, and Turbo JB kernel threads... and didn't see any mention of GameKeyboard. I went ahead and posted a question on the SlimBean thread to see if anyone knows if it's compatible with that ROM and kernels. I'm currently running rooted stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread with stock kernel, and it works great with that. If no one responds and if I can get the time, I may try to install SlimBean and test it out.
Hi pWEN,
I found this post where someone said that the "Gamepad" partially works with SlimBean (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40996551#post40996551. They said the touchpads don't work, but it sounds like the hard keys probably do. (I think they were referring to the GameKeyboard app when they said Gamepad) .
When I play Quake1 on my Xperia Play with this port...I honestly find the touchpads too difficult to use due to lack of ability to precisely control player's movements... so I prefer using the hard keys anyway.
(EDIT: I tested out the Gamekeyboard app on SlimBean ROM with Lupus kernel v.13 and also with Turbo v3.1. Both the gamepad/ hard keys and the touchpads worked with the ROM & either kernel.
Hi pWEN,
I found this post where someone said that the "Gamepad" partially works with SlimBean (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40996551#post40996551. Ah, okay. I really love the touchpads so I'd be a bit disappointed if I couldn't use them, but it's not a deal-breaker. Can you link me to your thread so I can subscribe to it? I'll get Gamekeyboard on and try it out.
I dunno what ROM you're currently running, but SlimBean is pretty cool. It's got launcher and ROM customization built in, including theme support. Really speeds up the phone, too. Only issue seems to be that it requires an SD card to install some OS files to, which is irritating since the OS itself is only like 26 mb. I used the Lupus kernel, which is really nice, as it has TWRP custom recovery built into it. If you need any files, just let me know, took some detective work for me to find them all, but I've got them. I used this install guide, which was way more helpful than the one in the SlimBean thread.
SlimBean does look cool and I'll probably try it out soon. Thanks for the install guide link. I'm just currently running stock rooted 2.3.4. (Edit: I used Titanium Backup Pro to debloat the stock ROM... so it's not just straight stock now).
The touchpads are cool, but I'm hoping you'll like Quake with just the regular controls. If GameKeyboard doesn't work, you should be able to get a refund if you go back into the Play Store within 2 hours of buying it... (I just read on the news where Google increased the refund time window).
(Confirmed the the touchpads do work with Gamekeyboard using Lupus v13 or Turbo v3.1 with SlimBean ROM).
I'm not sure if this is exactly what you want, but the web link for this thread is:
No, I meant the link to the thread where you asked about Gamekeyboard. No worries, I'll fiddle with it.
LOL... It didn't make sense to me that you would need the link to this Quake thread that I created... but I just wasn't sure what you meant. Sorry about that.
I asked about Gamekeyboard in the SlimBean thread: here.
pWEN,
I went ahead and flashed SlimBean and LuPuS JellyBean v13 Kernel 720p version ... (I also tried Turbo Kernel v3.1 ).
I can confirm that the phone's hard keys and the touchpads BOTH WORK using GameKeyboard with SlimBean and either one of these kernels. I also tested out the Multiplayer mode while running SlimBean and was able to connect into it (I attached a few screenshots below).
As far as the Quake game performance with SlimBean, I found that the game didn't run as smooth as it does on stock 2.3.4 GB. On Quake, the Turbo Kernel seemed to perform pretty good overall without needing to overclock... but with Lupus on Quake, it was really laggy and I had to overclock up to 1209 MHz to get it to stop lagging. (Using both kernels... I also tried to play one of my current favorite games (Aralon Sword & Shadow). With the Lupus kernel, Aralon really struggled and froze on me anytime I would toggle the Gamekeyboard controls while playing the game...even with the overclocking up to 1401 MHz. Aralon seemed to run smoother with Turbo kernel, but the game froze on me after playing it for a while. (Aralon runs smooth with very few hiccups running stock 2.3.4 GB/ stock kernel).
I'm pretty new to the Xperia Play and I'm not a developer (just an android enthusiast ). I'm not 100% sure what the best set up is for gaming on this device. I've read some thread posts, (example here: from darkharbinger81), where others report that with this device, Gingerbread seems to work better than JellyBean for gaming. So for now, I'll probably just stick with debloated 2.3.4 GB.
(Edit: I've played with SlimBean some more this evening and I'm really impressed with the ROM itself. It's put together really well and has lots of great features. I found the "Performance" settings where you can overclock and change Governors/Schedulers without even needing an app like SetCPU. If I wasn't using my Xperia Play soley for gaming, then I would seriously consider sticking with the SlimBean ROM).
What settings did you change to overclock in SlimBean? I've never messed around with that before, but I think it might be a good idea (especially since Minecraft runs more laggy on SB than it does on stock).
Pretty cool that online multiplayer works. Have you tried adding bots? Is such a thing possible here?
I seem to remember someone ported Quake 3 Arena to Android. Ever tried that?
You can access the overclock/governor/scheduler settings in SlimBean by going to phone's main settings menu, then "Performance," then they should be somewhere in there. :fingers-crossed: (I flashed back to stock GB last night and don't remember exactly where everything was). You probably know this, but If you decide to overclock, just be really cautious as it can damage your phone if you aren't careful. Here's a link to an overclocking discussion for our phone that gives some tips.
From what I can tell, Quake1 on FTEDroid doesn't have bots and I'm not sure if they can be added. I see in your profile that you have a background in game development and if you want to get some technical details on FTEDroid, I think that Spike (the FTEDroid developer) and the other FTE dev. team would be willing to chat with you on their FTE IRC channel. I chatted with him and a couple others on there briefly and they were nice and seemed open to discussion.
I think the Quake3 port you're talking about is Zeus Arena. It looks like it was pulled off of Google Play a while back due to development issues/terms of use issue... (I'm not sure what that means). My friend has it on his Xperia Play and I've played both Quake2 and Quake3 on it in Singleplayer mode. The game runs and looks great, but I had trouble using the controls well enough to effectively control the player. (Maybe I just need some more practice).
Yes, I'll definitely have to look for Zeus Arena!
Thanks for the link to the overclocking thread. I'll have to take a look later. I tried running FTE with Quake 1 as-is, and it's a bit laggy (and I'll definitely need that Gamekeyboard app). I've been trying to get on top of this Quake stuff, but all of my free time has been absorbed by work lately. So I'm trying to get as much information on it as I can, while I can.
I looked into bots, but so far haven't found a tutorial on setting them up with FTE (Android or no). A lot of this Quake stuff is as old as the game itself, but I feel my Google-fu is strong, so I'm sure I'll dig it up eventually. Omicron bots seem to be the best choice going by the forum debates.
Another question for you: You only mention Quake 1 on here, but shouldn't the mission packs work as well? I copied the pak0.pak files from the hipnotic and rogue folders to sister locations at the same level as the id1 folder, just as it shows up in my install directory (I got all of the Quake games through Steam). Not sure how to tell if they work or how I'd access them, though! And have you tried Quake 2 and its mission packs with this yet?
I plan to test out Quake 2 on FTEDroid soon. It'll be great if it works.
I don't own mission packs for any of the Quake versions, so I can't test things out, but I'm wondering if you could just use a file explorer and temporarily cut the Quake 1 pak files out of sdcard/fte/id1 and place them in a different folder... then copy the mission pak files into sdcard/fte/id1. It would be a bit of a pain to move things around like that... but I wonder if it would let you run the mission packs. That's how I got Laser Arena to boot (though it didn't run because of the server issue).
Ah okay, cool. I started a thread over on QuakeOne with a bunch of questions for them about this. Here's the link!
Also, I set up overclocking on my phone. Didn't make Minecraft less laggy (SlimBean issue, I guess) until I turned off fancy graphics, but what can you do. lol
Too bad that the overclocking didn't help much. Maybe there's some other tweaks you can do to improve performance with SlimBean...maybe try out Turbo Kernel, as (IMO) it seemed to perform with less lagging when I tried it. And thanks man for starting that thread on Quake One Forums. I just don't possess the knowledge to even know what to ask Spike and the others.
I used the info from the QuakeOne discussion and loaded Quake2 and Quake 3 into FTEDroid. They both started up and I was able to connect with some limited servers... but more testing and playing around with it is needed to see if the games would be playable on our phones. Also, the GameKeyboard profile that I mapped out for Quake1 didn't work with the games that did connect... so we'd have to play around with Gamekeyboard and the config files to see if the controls could be remapped for each game. I took some screenshots of all of the different games that FTE says it can run (see content below). I don't think all of them work on the Xperia Play, but I'm blown away by the list of games.
Even if none of the other games work well for our phones... hopefully other Xperia Play owners can still have fun playing Quake1 in Singleplayer mode with FTEDroid. :good: I need to get into bed so I can get up for work tomorrow... but thanks again for your time with this considering your busy work schedule.
Hello. I have not tried to play Quake on the Xperia Play in over 1 1/2 years, but these instructions worked for me when I last tried them.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to help with troubleshooting as I'm no longer using this device.
