got it today, it's up and running like a champ! was wondering if anyone had some app or customization tips for me while I wait for the ROM chefs to catch up. I've heard quite a bit about mobile shell, is it worth it?
So far I have found the phone to be very fast and smooth, the keyboard is almost too big but I'm getting used to it. The touchscreen is very responsive, easily as good as the tilt2 I tried out, though as I've seen others opine, it's best when using fingernails I think. I'm still getting used to navigating the OS right now though.
Any word on when this phone might get dedicated forums like the others?

Congratulations on your new device! Unfortunately, XDA-Developers is an HTC device forum, and therefore won't create dedicated forums for non-HTC devices. Every device on this board, including the Sony Xperia and both Palm Treos, is an HTC, and I doubt that the HTC-only rule will change soon. However, most of the apps here will still work fine on your eXpo, and you're still welcome to discuss the device in places like the General Forum.
I'm gonna look at this phone when the pico projector comes out, but the Expo isn't at the ATT store to even touch it, yet
im using the xperia, iphone, and tilt 2 right now...i was very excited about this phone because of the snapdragon processor...but being LG i dunno if i should...maybe u can post a small review...hows video playback on it there and camcorder so on etc...waiting for the pico add on as well.
indeed mine is on the way. and i'm sure spb mobile shell 3.5.1 will be one of the first few things i try out on the phone. and i'd like to check out touch response and i'll probably put chome and reStart on depending on what build of 6.5 it comes out of the box with. i hate not being able to arrange my start menu the way i like. chome and total commander really help with icon changing and subfolders. i'd look into those if you want to mod. id also check out advanced config tools. all those should work on your 6.5 smartphone without a problem
p.s. if you feel up for it and really wanna get down and dirty. you could try dumping your rom. and uploading it for us to take a look at?
also feel free to stop by and join my new social group for the lg expo / iq / monaco

Do I need to unlock it before it is dumped? I'll do it if you have a walk through or some instructions that you can point me toward.
Well, I spent all last night and every spare moment at work playing with the device. Installed Bing, Skyfire, Opera 10, and a few others. I made it through the day without needing a recharge. While the hardware is great, I like the heft and size very much, I think the software is still a bit rough. There's a lot of reduntdancy, and it's not as finger friendly as I'd like, even some of the newer apps, but the sensor and arrow keys and the finger nails have managed just fine. All in all it feels as though the software in general could use some optimization.
My only complaint so far is that the touch sensor isn't quite as good as the one on the new blackberries, but it works. I'm starting to get the hang of Winmo 6.5, there are some quirks with the back button that I can't tell if it's Winmo or the LG software, but the apps work with it fine.
I tried out the camera and I can safely say it beats the pants off my old G1, but that's not saying much. It has auto focus and white balance, as well as a really nice touch control interface, and the flash is powerful.

Typing this up really quickly as im waiting for lunch, will expand later.
I got lots of pics and vids already, which i may post later if there is any interest.
Android stuff seems to be decidedly absent so far.
@Microsoft: You all probably already heard about WM 6.5, saw some demos live, looks like a decent UI improvement, but its still no iPhone. Also saw some new devices here, including Acer stuff.
@nVidia: I did get a chance to play with a Tegra device, which was really snappy and smooth, but also the size of a small house. Very promising. They did have two normal Tegra devices on display, with names I had seldom heard before, but behind glass.
@HTC: Played with the Touch Diamond 2 a bit. I dont like the new form factor much. It wastes space at the bottom, and introduces a zoom slider that I couldnt get to work in either IE or Opera. They did do some more HTC integration, new startmenu, better contacts list etc. The Touch Max is just an HD with WiMAX.
@Qualcomm: They demod snapdragon, but it didnt seem as impressive as Tegra. Also, I was not allowed to touch the device. The now infamous Toshiba was also there, but again, no touching. BTW Nokia just made a deal with these guys, so abandon ship!
@LG: I was surprised to learn they are switching to WM as primary OS. They had some nice Omnia-like devices though, and the wristwatchphone was also fun.
@Samsung: Biggest surprise here, it seems the OmniaHD is running Symbian! No idea yet if there will also be a WM version.
---
The open eco system keynote with Microsoft, Nokia and AT&T CEOS was interesting. AT&T guys was the best, Ballmer a close second with his energetic ways and content, while the Nokia guy almost killed everybody due to excess boredom. The keynote itself was mostly a call for more working together and being generally more open with things, which they all agreed was necessary.
---
BTW, I dont know who CBOSS are or what they do, but they do employ an army of hot models!
More later, lunch is here, and I want to find myself a Palm Pre to play with!
ok, just tell me which device to get and that's it. so many out there i can't decide what i want.
JUST TELL ME! AHHH!
Omnia HD!!
HTC's hardware seems to be stuck in 2007 compared to Samsung and LG, heck even Sony Ericsson.
Kinda worrying how ppl are moving towards Symbian, but can't blame them windows mobile really is starting to show its age and no amount of skinning will disguise the fact that it needs a major revamp.
Okay, I was seriously thinking of abandoning the HTC ship for the nokia N97, so I could keep my tilt screen, but now? So if it is not too much trouble, my contract is up in April, could you please corner the AT$T guys and ask them when my new Touch Pro II ( Fuze II ? ) will be available on AT$T? Thanks
Some more stuff... First, somebody at HTC really needs to be fired for putting XT9 on the TP enabled when keyboard is extended. Annoying like hell, finally its off
Found some very nice Android devices that should be out by Q2. The company didnt decide on the brand name yet.
Unfortunately you cant play with the Palm Pre unless you are press.
@Gigabyte (GSmart): some very nice upcoming WM devices. Some were running 6.5 and I played with that. I think somebody made a mistake there!
@iMate: They drowned some of their WM phones. Waterproof!
can you attempt to get the new WM6.5 build ?

At Toshiba's booth, you can freely play with the TG01. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3339526 for more info & a lot of pics & videos (more to come!!!)
Hey Werner!
You're here? Haven't gotten round to Toshiba's booth yet, but if you're interested, PM me your phone number (plus international code bla bla) and we can meet up, schedules allowing... There will be beer!
No ROM dumps people It's a small booth, can't make it happen.
About those Android phones we saw (and I must stress here, I haven't even seen half of all the exhibits yet because of appointments and speeches etc), first, they looked very nice. One of the sexiest phone designs I've seen in a while, but then it was made by a 'design company'. They originally focused on Linux but switched to Android when it was released. According to them, they are using the default Android 'shell' - which is a shame, because their Linux phone had one of the awesomest shells I've seen in a while. I don't think they really understood me correctly, but it seemed they were saying that for these phones you can get apps to run as root without jailbreaking by getting it certified by them (or something.. wasn't really clear).
There were also some Androids coming out under the General Mobile label, but not necessarily those I mentioned above
And no, we're not palming those models (but perhaps we will? ) but we are sure to do some clubhopping here. It's Barcelona, after all! In fact I just got back from a club
EDIT: Also, at SPB's booth we were shown SPB Shell 3.0 (after being persistent), dont have any pics or vids of that. But it's pretty darn cool. I'm going to buy it when it's out, most likely, beats the crap out of TF3D.

I just picked up a LG IQ (Monaco) from Telus, but I am not sure what to do....I posted a similar list of questions over on ppcgeeks, but then relized that the LG IQ is sort of a GSM phone (Telus seems to be migrating to a GSM G3+ system from thier CDMA system) and thier might be more interest over here.
I did have a Rogers GSM Apache prior to my Touch Pro, so I was watching this sight quite a bit years ago.
I have just come from a Touch Pro, so the LG IQ is a smokingly fast device, both from a responsiveness, and web surfing point of view. The 1 GHz realy DOES make a difference!!!
But that is my problem...
For what it does, its great, but the interface is far behind the latest Sence builds ( I have mostly used Energy CDMA ROM's on my Touch Pro - thanks NRG!!).
So I have a phone that does stuff FAST, but I miss all the bells and whistles of the new HTC software.
1. What to you guys think..should I keep the device, or go to a Touch Pro2, a known but much more limited hardware platform?
2. Do you think there will be enough interest to open it up and start building kitchens/ROMs?
3. Should I just live with it and put Spb shell or something on it?
Sadly the TP2 or the Omnia (1) really are the only WM options available directly from telus right now, and I am quite a committed WM user (I started with the original CE PDA's)
Ready to hear all thoughts.
If there is interest I will post a miny review in a couple of days...are you interested?
keep your 1G phone! everybody say window mobile is sluggish, maybe on 528mzh cpu, but on snapdragon 1G i dont feel any slowness, it quick! and load/render web pages really quick too! if the phone is hot/popular, people will make custom rom for it!
i love my Acer neotouch with 1G cpu, it' so fast!
i tihnk u should keep it. i would love to hv the lg expo as my 2nd phone. mostly because of the keyboard.
right now im on acer neotouch which also has the 1ghz snappydragon and it feels really snappy compared to my old wm phone (X1).
however it also lacks a custom interface likes htc's sense but i hv installed PointUI on my acer just to cover up some of the default windows stuff. maybe u can try that.
i think there will be enough interest in the lg expo that some smart ppl will start developing custom roms for it.
just like my acer neotouch. i was surprised a couple of members here hv cooked custom roms with htc sense for it. though i havent tried them out myself. maybe in time.

1) No, the Touch PRo hasn't been out that long either. There will be plenty of goodies for the LG soon enough once it gets a bit more market penetration. I myself have the phone on order but won't be getting it until next week or later (hoping it arrives before christmas x (>.<) x [fingers crossed]). Just give it some time.
2)Most assuredly! The eXpo has quite the winning combo of hardware features. I'm most excited about the touch sensor, no more trackball nightmares! Nevermind the cool stuff that can be done with the projector.
3)I think you just need to be patient. You are on the bleeding edge of tech, it's going to take the community a little while to catch up esp considering the holiday season. All these wonderful programmers and ROM chefs have families too.
dude r u serious !!!
offcourse keep the lg iq ...
sooner or later there will be a port ..
wait until att release it...

Keep the IQ and please do a rom dump of it quickly too! PM me and I can help you if you need. Thanks!
u might not get custom roms unless spocky12 plans to cook one.
either way, the snapdragon makes up for the sluggish WM.
u'll still be able to install apps made by the wonderful people here at xda.
i say keep the phone!
Once you have snapdragon, why go back to anything with less cpu...Keep it!

I'm actually waiting on mine too. I was told I should get it on Tuesday. I've read everything I can on the eXpo and that was what made me choose that over the Tilt2 (TP2). If anything just for the 1ghz processor. I'm using a Tilt right now with a sakajati hyperdragonIV Mega rom and it runs ...ok I guess. I'm running SPB mobile shell on top instead of manilla and it's running a lot faster. If the S-Class interface isn't to my liking (which I'm sure it will be) I'll probably just install the SPB mobile shell if I can. I'm sure it would look pretty sweet on the higher res screen.
Keep the Monaco. Like others have said before me, it's a great phone and more "goodies" will come out in (hopefully) not too long. It's so new here in the states that I can't even find accessories specifically for it. Not even a case. Hell I can't even find where I can buy the projector. I'd get that now if I could. lol (Cubicle movies at work lol )

Totally Jealous. I bought mine from amazon full price, they say I won't get it until at least the 23. Just ditched my G1, Android is crap IMHO. This will be my first WinMo phone and I'm looking forward to it. I'm new to this flashing thing but it looks like a lot of fun, I've allways held off getting a smart phone until the browsers improved and they certainly have come a long way recently. Looking forward to winmo7 and IE9.
Did this ROM get dumped yet?
I was going to go to the store and dump one of the phone's roms from there for MightyMike and Juggalo_X at PPCGeeks. If this guy is doing it then I'm sure Astain will pass it on to those two.
Trust me don't go back to a sluggish msm72xxx cause your going to regret it, just be patient rom cooking will come, probably in the coming months, so just keep it and try installing htc cabs on it.
If you really miss touchflo, look for throttlelauncher with a skin, its free and does the same thing, and is more customizable. Of course, the touchflo tweaks will not work for it

Personally, if you don't have a place like xda to help enjoy your phone then it's not worth getting another phone that you can not customize above and beyond the typical parameters. I don't know too much about LG or Toshiba's support sites out there but I often stick with HTC because xda.
It's not just about the phones specs but the people behind the phones that matter more. XDA is that community that keeps me close to HTC.
Do research using the various website like GSM Arena to figure out the best phone....but don't stop there. Find out the support Groups that are willing to carry you and your device to it's furthest limits.
Hope this helps.....

Hi there
I have a LG IQ (Canadian eXpo). I have never had a HD or a tg01 so I cant compare them directly but I can comment on the eXpo.
I very much like my eXpo, but as other posters have said, the big thing you lose going to another manufacturer is this communities support, although several on this forum have stated that they will work on ROM development when it becomes possible. There is a fledgling web site www.lg-expo.com and a special interest group here, where discussions about development can take place.
things I love about the eXpo:
The keyboard - as good feel as the Touch Pro 2, but with a few less keys
The screen - colorful and bright but I havent used a HD
The SPEED of the processor -1 GHz and you know it when browsing or booting your device. You also know it when using processor intensive apps - doing things like browsing a large music collection.
the camera - 5 Mpixel, flash and it works quite well for a phone camera.
I am looking forward to the coming availability of the projector attachment.
the hardware multi-tasking button, and LG task manager works better than anything else I have seen on WM
the fingerprint reader - yes this works for security - and it works fast so I actually use it, which wasn't the case with the password systems and in my situation I really should use security of some type.
After TF3D or Sence, the S Class user interface is different and needs some getting used to! I have grown to like it but it was a rocky road the first week.
The bad...It has no internal stylus, so you have to use your finger nail sometimes. With 6.5 I find I can live with this since I don't end up wanting to use a stylus too much.
good luck and cheers,
Stay with HTC!
Go for Leo or Rhodium
So far the best 2 devices to this date

Yeah specially N1 thats coming out lol there is some stuff on n1user.com
Now that the HD2 is for a fact now coming to T-Mobile, and the Nexus One looms over head. What should I pick?
I love Android and WM. No doubt about it. I've been in both areas of rom development. I just cant decide. Since I can only get both on subsidy, 200 vs 180 isn't that big of a deal. I am not at all a new comer to this, and I just want to know from both perspectives. Since which ever I pick I will be happy.
My Needs:
- Battery that will last all the way to the night.
- Support(Both have them I know, I used to run a rom list for the HD2)
- Style (Both are sexy)
- Speed (Both are 1ghz)
- Ram, and efficient use of it
- Applications (I did not want to use the godawful word "apps")
- The feel in your hands
- Age
- Browser (I already know how awesome WM opera is) I have a large distaste for server side rendering since its cheating.
- Practicality of functions (like how well does a certain thing work, like the camera and speaker and call quality etc. .)
- Room for improvement (rom side)
They aren't exactly my needs but its a guideline that can help. Just provide your incite.
Anyone? I could use some incite .
here you go
htc stated the nexus one isnt made to be put in pockets...ppl have been complaining about cracked screens and so forth. if u plan on having ur phone in your pocket then get the hd2.
multitouch on the hd2 is much better than the nexus...has something to do with the nexus one screen
in terms of rom development i believe that windows mobile will yield the most in potential.
But be wary...if you are wanting the windows 7 upgrade for your hd2, hold off until microsoft says whether it will be possible. I know this is a deal breaker for some people
Hmmm, I forgot to list, hows the pocketability of the device?
pocketability? whats that lol?
I've no personal experience, but from everything I've seen and read, if you can carry an iPhone, you can carry this. While the HD2 is bigger, the size difference isn't drastically different between the two.

I think "how easy is to put it in your pocket"
I would go for Leo because WM
I am not Andoird fan...
Lol, whats up with WM users and android?
Nothing really, nothing personal
I just think that WM is more solid OS for business environment, Android is too young now...
Perhaps in the future I can consider it but now now
I get you. Have you had any experience with this phone?
Also, what improvements has xda brought us?

I'm pretty sure that HTC meant that you shouldn't put the phone in your BACK pocket. I have my phone in my front pockets all the time. Also the phone slides into your front pockets real easy like.
It's really Android vs. WM.
I personally would choose Android. You want many/good applications - Android has them. On WM, you find an application for pretty much everything you want, but the quality of the applications is just MUCH better on Android.
And moreover, nobody is going to develop anymore for WM6.5 when WP7S is out. The Android Market is growing fast - WM's Marketplace is even shrinking and also outside of it, there's not much going to happen.
"Pocketability": Both are good (very thin, the Nexus is a bit lighter though, but 1mm thicker)
So that's my answer: If you don't need that huge 4.3" screen or dual LED flash, or a certain feature that only WM provides - get the Nexus One (or better: The HTC Desire).
I've had both and I am currently waiting for the HD2 to come out. I like the Nexus, but the response of the touch screen is a pain sometimes. I also like the hardware buttons on the HD2. Meaning, if I need to make a call, just hit the call button.
I love how the Nexus IS the google phone, so google integration is smooth. It does all the google maps/sync/voice etc nicely. The android market is nice, but the applications there aren't that great. The only thing I have downloaded that wasn't a widget and really use is slacker radio.

Then you'll be very disappointed with the HD2, I'm afraid... except if you're into things like PSX Emulators etc., those are really great on WM.
I am into Emulators and such lol. I have a source for WM applications just as I can get a source for android applications. I could care less as long as I have a good mobile experience. Applications are cool, but some I don't use. Most of the apps im gonna get are like Google Maps, and maybe the market MySpace app(Android or WM).
I am very familiar with the Nexus One's development and its reminiscent of the G1. What has kind of made me split my decision and leave me here is the fact that all these little problems are cropping up with the Nexus, like the touch screen and the Dust, and just all the other little things.
I just need an argument from both sides to help me decide better. Right now I'm in the middle, purgatory.
I would go for the HD2. While I like both OSes, WM is still my preference. That being said, with Android being open source and WM not, it will only be a matter of time before Android is fully up and running on the HD2, the best of both worlds. There isn't a lot of WM porting going on these days, and I'm not sure if its legal, so with the Nexus one you are stuck with Android, whereas with the HD2 you will likely have a choice.

Well, I say Nexus One, or HTC Desire, unless there's something you need that it can't do.
The quality of the applications on Android is really much better, but there are some things on WM that you don't get on Android, and you should check that before you make your decision.
(and of course, there are also things on Android that you don't get one WM)
Look at the things you're doing and search whether all of that is possible on Android/WM. Then decide.
The problems with the Nexus One? They're the same on the HD2. The touchscreen has the same issues, but nobody cares, cause there's no multitouch applications on WM anyways.
Everything I want I can do on both devices. So thats the reason I am stuck between the two. I wanted the HD2 before the Nexus One came out, but the price was really high. Then the Nexus came out and I was eying it as well. Now that both devices are available to me at reasonable prices I am stuck.
I have until 12AM tonight to decide if I accept a 7 Pro / HTC Arrive for £120.
The offer is tempting however having researched WM7 I just don't know if I should wait and get a cheap TP2 with 6.5 instead.
It seems everything I loved about WM6.5 is gone in WM7 which appears to be more like an iOS interface and locked out of many apps. I know there is some improvement in Mango but this just seems to be more of an enhancement over the original canvas.
Currently using a TP1 but the keys have worn out.
Any contributions would be appreciated.

What do you use your phone for? What would you want to use your phone for?
How much does the apps matter to you? What apps do you 'need'?
Are you into Music subscriptions? Are you into Xbox games?
I don't use an Xbox and am not interested in music subscriptions.
I don't tend to use it for internet much either, mainly calls and texts but I have alot of rare apps relating to hobbies like tone signal generators and other stuff, it seems all of these would be gone.
Is it true that the phone can still not be accessed as a drive and has to go through web software still as this really puts me off the device.

I think in that case 6.5 is mostly a better choice. However the Gen1 phones have gone to a stage full unlock where you could use the root tools to edit registry, custom ROMs, use file explorers, advanced config tool etc - that lets you use your phone to side load apps, more or less as an usb drive too. However, I am not very sure if all your apps can come with you. The kernel is different and I am pretty sure there will be limitations to it.
I am guessing there is no way a stock WM 6.5 install would work on this phone?
It seems a dreadful shame that such a great piece of hardware is essentially going to waste from locked software since the specs of this phone are very nice.
Thanks

and the future for wp7 holds a new system, which is about to come later this year. i mea nthe wp8. and all thing tend that its an update that all users of wp7 get. sooner or later

Not at the moment. The system is pretty much locked down and secured. Even if someone is able to have custom ROMs on most WP7.5 phones, I think they might prefer making custom WP7.5 ROMs. It might be hard to find a ROM chef willing to port a WM6.5 to WP7.5 hardware!

Ok thanks that pretty much settles it then, i just wish it was possible to upgrade the TP2 hardware there seems to be no equivalent other than the expensive Droid phones

Could you not keep your old phone as your toy for hobbies and get a new WP7 phone? You never know you might like it! Plus in a few months or even a year while you continue your hobbies on the old phone, someone might be able to think of having 6.5 on WP7 (to me I will still be surprised if anyone wants to go back!)?
I am saying this with a huge stone on my heart and bitting a few too many bullets but ---
IF you think one of the droid boys can let you use your old hobby apps on those phones, get a droid.
I have the 7 Pro and I have to say it really is a great phone. I wouldnt go back to TP2 or similar anymore.
