I don't think that there are any screenlock that ultilizes multitouch right now. Any developer developing annything like this? It would be so cool.
How would it use multi-touch? For example, if you made a lock app, what would you make it do? Not criticising, just curious.
I dont know how can be that, but I think that It could be beter to make the unlock with a teeter level

There are a few multi-touch gestures that could be used, like pinch to zoom or vice versa.

You don't need to unlock it to call an emergency number. But we need multi touch in games not lock apps.
I've no idea what this will bring to a higher level in terms of productivity.
I'd say a pinch to zoom style lockscreen would be pretty sweet. Have like two different objects that have to get pinched together to unlock.

Hmmm....so instead of using one hand to unlock, now we need 2 hands. Pretty sweet....
I quite like the idea of a pinch to zoom type unlock, beside its easy to pinch to zoom with one hand.
I think something like jailbreakers for the iphone have designed. For example..email right on the lock screen. multi accounts with pull down for quick view. this tweek also included weather for 7 days had missed calls and also sms view with pull down for quick view. Also had calendar appointments but we have that already. I found this very useful when i didnt need to open the phone.

can anyone help me with locking/unlocking the hard keys whilst in call? i use a bt headset at work and although the screen locks via the proximity sensor i still press the hard keys in my pocket, resulting in unwanted open apps and ending calls
I dont mind a different gesture as my 1year old son can unlock my phone ! maybe the pinch two buttons to meet in the middle maybe best.

Hey guys finally someone has gotten smart enough to make the first multi touch keyboard. It's called Smart Keyboard in the market and its free. It's still in beta and is very buggy and ugly. They keyboard is going in the right direction, maybe someone can build on it and perfect it? Thanks.

You can see the screenshots in the market. And it doesn't look THAT bad. Basically a white version of the stock keyboard.
Multi-touch seems to help my typing a lot. Even without the auto-correction (which is supposedly going to be added in the Pro version later on), I can type almost perfectly, compared to the many mistakes I make with the stock keyboard.

I agree its definitely a step better than the stock keyboard. One problem is that it doesn't show the letter when you hit it, it's just blank. Cant wait for a pro version or for someone to make a more improved app.
very nice keyboard indeed. the vibrate option doesnt work on my n1. its also missing the voice input but istill like it because it implements multitouch correctly unlike the stupid stock kboard
So I just downloaded app and selected it from language & keyboard settings but I still end up with the stock KB. Any ideas on how to switch it?

Hold down on a text box and it should say "Input method". Click that and should display the keyboards you have installed/enabled.

Still needs quite a bit of work. All in all, it sort of reminded me..why exactly do we need a multi-touch keyboard now? Sure ive used the iphone keyboard....but it doesnt make a world of difference if the OS isnt built around the function.
fantastic find. using it to write this response and this is an amazing fix for me. not sure if it is the multitouch or not, but either way i like it
pretty good missing some features but i feel a bit more accurate with it.
Not bad! This has a lot of potential...

You can tell its multi touch if say you hold down the A key and then press the J key it will type the A then the J right after it.
Wish they could add holding Q for number 1 etc like the HTC one!
Only thing I really want.

in zens slide port, the normal shortcut add button leads to faves. is it possible to do something like that? i like how the app drawer is in the middle, just makes more "sense"(get it?)

honestly, id like to JUST have an app drawer. we have a hardware phone button that works in taking you to the dialer in any app your in, long press has made the add button obsolete, but ovbiously the app drawer is still needed by default.
i know i know, go to launcher, but i like sense :-D
i know how to use metamorph, so i COULD make buttons transparent, but to switch around the actions...i think will take more dev'ing than im capable of. unless someone has a hardcore article i could read on remapping.

You guys kill me. Just saw this thread, as I happen to read miscellaneous posts while eating lunch .
I've never really looked at the feasibility of re-mapping buttons for such a purpose. Given that I personally don't have a similar want/need, not sure how much "effort" I'll put into, but I'll take a peek and see what, if anything, can be done.
Personally i love the sense widgets, but hate the bottom buttons, so i use stock home. If theres also a way to change the 7 screens to 5 or 3, that would be awesome. My ideal interface is somewhere between aosp and sense.
I've actually thought about this too and think it would be really neat. App drawer in the middle, phone on the side and replace the "Add to Home" button with something more useful. I never posted anything because I didn't know if it was possible but if it is then I'd love this!

Maybe replace the Add to Home button to Settings or Internet, personally i wouldn't mind figuring out how to change them and switch the phone button to app drawer and add to home to setting and change app drawers current button to internet, then my home screen would be clear.
We've had this convoy before, though slightly different....my preferred setup would be simply replacing the "+" button's add function with a second tray containing shortcuts to your contacts.....pretty much like the people widget, but in a drawer instead of taking up one of my pages. I like having the phone button in the middle, but if some can figure out how to remap the buttons, I wouldn't mind looking in to customizing the layout and functions. Right now, I'm not even sure where to start, lol!
anything different for the "add" button would be great! never understood the need since you can just as easily long press to add
Remapping existing functions is rather easy. Trying to add a new function to a button that does something completely different, though not impossible, would take a lot more work.
Here's a quick "proof of concept" video:
http://screencast.com/t/NDdkNDBmY
I've basically just remapped the application draw and phone launcher buttons to switch. I don't show the left icon press, but it pulls up the phone. Didn't show it in the video, as I don't want to reveal any phone numbers.
There are some bugs to iron out, but if you were to eliminate the left and right buttons all together, it would be good to go now. Currently, and I just started looking at this, if you press the right button, a variable is not getting reset, and then if you press the middle button, it will take you to the shortcuts rather than the app drawer again. But, as soon as you click the 'phone' button, now mapped to the left button, the app drawer in the middle begins working again...

i havent completely decided as to how the first set up will be; theres alot of good ideas posted, but we're stuck until i get a starting point. ill probably start out by making my ideal rosie, and share the rescurces and steps to do it.
theory; obviously, the ideal place to start would be in Rosie.apk. perhaps an xml file of some sort? any other ideas?
I feel like this is a really silly question and a forum search yielded no one with the same question so it seems like I might just be missing something obvious!
Is there not an easier way to take a photo than to have to hit the little small "capture" icon when you're using the camera app? It works fine when you're taking a photo normally but when you either do a self camwhore shot or taking a photo of you and someone else, you face the camera towards you and then you can't see where the capture button.
I've been making due by putting my fingers really close to the button and then flipping the phone over and trying to get two of us in the photo just to realize that my finger didn't hit the capture button.
The front facing camera is awful but that makes sense.
I would have thought something as basic as double tapping or holding the screen would take a photo but that doesn't seem to work for me.
Thanks!
I would think the easiest way would be to use the self-timer feature

Exactly what I was going to say.
Wave Control uses the proximity sensor to detect hand gestures to control music playback (free version) and more (paid version).
Update (10/11/2012): Half of proceeds from app sales from October will be donated to Breast Cancer Research
More Info Here
Update (9/7/2012): New Tasker Support for changing profiles in Wave Control!
I developed this on the Note and luckily it happens to have one of the best proximity sensors (at least for my uses). Works best on the Note and Galaxy Nexus. Not so great on HTC phones and SGSII due to their particular sensors (much slower).
There are 4 basic gestures:
-Hover
-1 Wave
-2 Waves
-3 Waves
By default they correspond to Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Enable/Disable Controls respectively.
In the Pro version, they can be remapped to any of those plus: Turn Screen On, Volume Up, Volume Down, Launch Google Voice Search, Alt Play/Pause (for MX Video Player), and do nothing.
Popular uses are:
When driving, don't have to take your eyes off the road to try to hit a button
When your hands are dirty so you don't smear crap all over your phone like when cooking or working on car
While on the computer, you don't have to bother waking the phone to change the song (works even when the screen is off)
I'd like to see what you guys think of it. If you have any suggestions for new features or any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

I just bought the app. I just want to support your efforts and I hope you will keep updating and making better. My question though: I can't seem to get the "wave" to work. How do you "wave" to skip songs or play/pause or whatever? The hover works but kind of when I don't need it to so I said "none" to it.

You wave over the proximity sensor that is located between the front camera and the earpiece. I've got some demo videos on youtube. You can check the Play Store page each version has a different demo video.
Could you click on the info button in the app and send me an email? It'll grab the sensor vendor and model number. I'm using the international version and reeeally hope Samsung didn't change sensors for the ATT version.
Hmm just tried free version. Tried default music app and Google music app. No gestures worked, hover nor wave. I have a SGP Glas.t screen protector.

I'm not sure if the SGP has a proximity sensor. Usually they're only on phones. Most tablet don't have them either. But, if the Play Store let you install it then the phone's profile says it has one.

Sorry about that I have a Note N7000 with a SGP screen protector that covers the proximity sensor. Its a glass screen protector. The first time I fired up Wave Control it had a red circle around the status bar icon. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and it no longer has the red circle; it's working now. Something weird mustve happened first time around.
Just playing with it...I cannot for the life of me pull off a 3 wave gesture and 2 is not easy.
My suggestions for your awesome app:
-Adjust time the proximity sensor reads inbetween waves to make multiple wave gestures easier
-If there is a way to adjust the power? of the proximity sensor that would be awesome. I found myself pausing/playing music a good 4 inches hovering off my phone unintentionally
-Help section explaining on/off switches better
-Link from app to youtube videos on how to use hover and wave gesture as you see it unless I missed it somewhere
All in all a cool concept I plan on playing with a little more. Another bummer I'm finding is I have a habit of dragging my status bar down from the top right corner and I keep triggering a bomb diggity song hah. Sometimes when I type with my right pointer finger, my other fingers curl upwards and will trigger music too.

Oh damn acronyms haha was thinking Samsung Galaxy Player.
Unfortunately, I don't have any control over the power of the sensor. Man, yours is on steroids. Mine reads usually only to about 2 inches.
Thanks for the great suggestions. I do need a more comprehensive help section as this isn't the usual way of interacting with a phone.
For getting the higher number of waves to work, you have to make sure to clear the sensor and an easier wave to do it is with your hand palm sideways like a chop. The sensor is quick enough for it. Other phones can't detect it but ours can.
You can even just use a finger and wag it back and forth. One person left a review saying to space your fingers apart to get multiple waves in one swoop.
The first thing I'll implement is an adjustable gesture window to detect slower waves better.
I don't want to clutter the UI too much, so I may move stuff to a dedicated settings page.
Cool app. I bought the pro version to show support.

The proximity sensor is pretty much an IR LED and a light sensor. So there is some power use. From my experience so far it uses a bit less than the music player.

My wife's AT&T One X just started doing this weird thing where instead of the normal crop interface within the stock gallery app, it's putting boxes around any faces it detects and won't let us do a "normal" crop (with the resizable rectangle). How do we get rid of this? Just want to resize a picture and we can't.

Not on my HTC One with Sense 5. I turned off face detection, took a photo of people (faces aren't detected), then hit Edit, Transform, Crop. The "Touch a face to crop" message pops up immediately and the faces are highlighted. I can't custom-crop unless I go through a slow process of tapping a face and expanding the crop boundary several times, making it zoom out bit by bit.
I'm on 1.29.841.2.

Works just fine for me on CleanROM 6.5, and on past ROMs I've been on. Crop "frame" starts at a face, but I can resize and reposition it, as you would expect to. Face detection is "on" in camera settings. I don't think this is an issue with the way the feature is designed, but maybe just a glitch on certain devices/ROMs or a setting issue.
