[App] Wave Control - Control your phone without even touching it - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Themes and Apps

Wave Control uses the proximity sensor to detect hand gestures to control music playback (free version) and more (paid version).
Update (10/11/2012): Half of proceeds from app sales from October will be donated to Breast Cancer Research
More Info Here
Update (9/7/2012): New Tasker Support for changing profiles in Wave Control!
I developed this on the Note and luckily it happens to have one of the best proximity sensors (at least for my uses). Works best on the Note and Galaxy Nexus. Not so great on HTC phones and SGSII due to their particular sensors (much slower).
There are 4 basic gestures:
-Hover
-1 Wave
-2 Waves
-3 Waves
By default they correspond to Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Enable/Disable Controls respectively.
In the Pro version, they can be remapped to any of those plus: Turn Screen On, Volume Up, Volume Down, Launch Google Voice Search, Alt Play/Pause (for MX Video Player), and do nothing.
Popular uses are:
When driving, don't have to take your eyes off the road to try to hit a button
When your hands are dirty so you don't smear crap all over your phone like when cooking or working on car
While on the computer, you don't have to bother waking the phone to change the song (works even when the screen is off)
I'd like to see what you guys think of it. If you have any suggestions for new features or any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

works fine...more functions to enable/disable would be great

interesting so much..

Look very useful! But how this program affect the battery life?

Thankyou for making this app!

I just bought the app. I just want to support your efforts and I hope you will keep updating and making better. My question though: I can't seem to get the "wave" to work. How do you "wave" to skip songs or play/pause or whatever? The hover works but kind of when I don't need it to so I said "none" to it.

You wave over the proximity sensor that is located between the front camera and the earpiece. I've got some demo videos on youtube. You can check the Play Store page each version has a different demo video.
Could you click on the info button in the app and send me an email? It'll grab the sensor vendor and model number. I'm using the international version and reeeally hope Samsung didn't change sensors for the ATT version.

Hmm just tried free version. Tried default music app and Google music app. No gestures worked, hover nor wave. I have a SGP Glas.t screen protector.
Your Sound Asleep app looks interesting. I'm just afraid of what it might record hah

I'm not sure if the SGP has a proximity sensor. Usually they're only on phones. Most tablet don't have them either. But, if the Play Store let you install it then the phone's profile says it has one.
Do any commands register in the Last Action area? Could you click on the info button and Send Feedback. In the email it'll list out the proximity sensor if there is one. Hmm.. might actually FC if you don't have one now that I think about it.

Sorry about that I have a Note N7000 with a SGP screen protector that covers the proximity sensor. Its a glass screen protector. The first time I fired up Wave Control it had a red circle around the status bar icon. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and it no longer has the red circle; it's working now. Something weird mustve happened first time around.
Just playing with it...I cannot for the life of me pull off a 3 wave gesture and 2 is not easy.
My suggestions for your awesome app:
-Adjust time the proximity sensor reads inbetween waves to make multiple wave gestures easier
-If there is a way to adjust the power? of the proximity sensor that would be awesome. I found myself pausing/playing music a good 4 inches hovering off my phone unintentionally
-Help section explaining on/off switches better
-Link from app to youtube videos on how to use hover and wave gesture as you see it unless I missed it somewhere
All in all a cool concept I plan on playing with a little more. Another bummer I'm finding is I have a habit of dragging my status bar down from the top right corner and I keep triggering a bomb diggity song hah. Sometimes when I type with my right pointer finger, my other fingers curl upwards and will trigger music too.

Oh damn acronyms haha was thinking Samsung Galaxy Player.
Unfortunately, I don't have any control over the power of the sensor. Man, yours is on steroids. Mine reads usually only to about 2 inches.
Thanks for the great suggestions. I do need a more comprehensive help section as this isn't the usual way of interacting with a phone.
For getting the higher number of waves to work, you have to make sure to clear the sensor and an easier wave to do it is with your hand palm sideways like a chop. The sensor is quick enough for it. Other phones can't detect it but ours can.
You can even just use a finger and wag it back and forth. One person left a review saying to space your fingers apart to get multiple waves in one swoop.
The first thing I'll implement is an adjustable gesture window to detect slower waves better.
I don't want to clutter the UI too much, so I may move stuff to a dedicated settings page.

Cool app. I bought the pro version to show support.

The proximity sensor is pretty much an IR LED and a light sensor. So there is some power use. From my experience so far it uses a bit less than the music player.

[App] Sleep Calc/Timer

Hi guys, looking for some feed back on my app. based on website sleepytimer.com
I've seen 2 apps on droid marketplace but all the comments I read complain that there is no alarm.
So my app provides the same features plus adding alarms. Be gentle
[edited] 10/12 now on marketplace (free)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sleepytimer
This looks really good. I'll test it out and tell you what I think...
EDIT: This app is amazing. This will be really useful for me since I hate waking up tired and groggy.
I am making some small tweaks to the app as well as making a better icon and will upload it soon.
EDIT2: I finished the small edits! Check it out!
Hah, you noticed my typo Choice a mode hehe.
Can you tell me what else you did? I already had a revision underway and an icon+splash screen worked out
I kind of like your icon though too, I just thought of an interesting hybrid. Taking my icon and then instead of eyeballs, I'll put sunglasses on him kind of like some Oakley oilrigs and instead of a regular dark lense it will be the alarm LED with a time.

All I really did was changed the icon and fixed typos and stuff to make it look more professional. I also added some stuff just in case you want an 'about' tab when you press the menu button on your phone.

VolumeSwipe pre-release

I made an app that lets you adjust volume in a number of apps (including Netflix, Hulu+, Gallery Video, Amazon Video, Amazon mp3) by swiping along the side of the screen. You can also turn on boost mode to adjust volume up to 140%.
Here's the apk. It's free, but does contain an ad for a paid app of mine. Since it's Open Source, you can build your own copy without this ad.
I know there is already an app that lets you adjust volume by swiping, but I thought it would be nicer to have this active only in a few apps, so it doesn't get in the way in other apps.
I eventually hope to add a feature where you can select additional apps to the list where VolumeSwipe is active, but that's for the future. But if there is some popular video/audio playing app that I've left out, let me know.
This seems cool. What's the other app you're talking about?
thanks for the work you put in.

The other app is Volume Control, I'm not sure why the OP states that the other one (volume control) gets in the way since it has an auto-hide feature.

VolumeControl hides visually, but of course it's still there even when hidden, so it will get in the way if you want to tap on something in that area of the screen in an app. Ditto for my VolumeSwipe, except that the problem is minimized by the fact that VolumeSwipe is only active in a few apps.
Also, I think the narrowness of the VolumeControl bar, even on its widest setting, might make it harder to hit (though I haven't tried VolumeControl specifically on our Kindle, since I haven't rooted our Kindle due to DMCA concerns). VolumeSwipe provides a much wider bar. I think that's probably nicer if, say, you are watching a movie at the gym.
Sounds nice. You say "a number of apps (including...)". Could we have a complete list of the apps you include? BTW, you mention that your slider is narrower than Vol Control. Vol control's slide width is adjustable in the settings

I don't know what you mean by auto hide. Right now, when you let go of the swipe area, it disappears. Or at least it's supposed to.
Not disappearing on mine for some reason but thats what I meant by auto hide. If you made a invisible option that would be a good solution /feature to solve my issue and anyone else who may come across it. It's a great app to have on the KF though especially for use with youtube (every vid is recorded @ diff vol levels) ... I was having to exit youtube everytime to adjust the vol (annoying) but now I can just swipe! Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately, 1.01 was buggy.
I think I fixed some bugs in 1.02.
I recommend uninstalling 1.01, then rebooting, then installing 1.02.
Unfortunately, due to a bug in Android's package manager (which I reported to Google), it is necessary to turn off VolumeBoost before installing a new a version. I have not been able to find an easy way around this.
NOTE: USE BOOST ONLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. IT COULD DAMAGE SPEAKERS (especially if you turn off the non-uniform boost option in the settings).
It's officially in the Appstore.

[APP] Super Simple Sleep Timer - Silence any audio app after a period of time [4.0+]

Hey guys,
Just a small utility I wrote for personal use which I thought I'd share in case anyone else finds it useful. As the title says, you set which audio app you want to stop after a set period of time, simple as that.
I personally use it before I go to sleep with either Umano or Pocket Casts, both have sleep timers but I find this much quicker to setup and use. Plus it has a lower volume option so it can tune it down to silence rather then just abruptly stopping the music.

I wanna keep it as simple as possible, I might add a widget for quickly settings the timer but not sure if I want to add a notification though. FYI you can cancel the timer anytime by just setting it at 0.

Thank you very much.
Worked fine in Poweramp, which has a built in sleep timer. Didn't work for me in HBO GO or Netflix. Would be nice to have those working for when I put on a movie I will almost certainly fall asleep to. But certainly not a complaint for a free app, more of a heads up. Thanks for your work!

Excellent app well done! thank you for the simplicity and keeping it free. It takes a lot of time and effort to put stuff together no complaints! BTW for the people who insist on new features i am sure donations motivate lol where is a p.p. link i would like to hit you with a fiver
Some suggestions, hope you don't mind.
Long durations than 1 hour (maybe like the Google calender selection, one outer circle for hours, inner circle for minutes).
Bigger gaps between 60 and 0 (more than once I want to set it to 60 and it goes to 0)
Make the press-able buttons more obvious (I didn't realize I had to press the button to activate the function, same for the lower volume option - the top part of the "Set sleep timer" button is too faint imho, more so on my old Nexus 7 than my Nexus 5.)

What I can do is make the number in the center editable so if you want more than 60 minutes you can just type it in, and yeah I'll make it so you can't infinitely go round the spinner to stop that between 60 and 0.
And hmm, what if I lose the button altogether and have it automatically set once you've set the time..
Very nice app!
A suggestion, hope you don't mind.
It would be nice to have an "all" option in the app drop down which broadcasts pause to all apps (it would make the app even simpler from a user perspective at least.)

- Added an "all" option which will pause all apps (although I've noticed that PowerAmp will start playing if it's already paused when it receives the pause command)
- The progress number is now editable so you can set any amount of time you want

Turn on the screen without pressing center key

Hi all,
Just got the SW2 today and am excited to use it. Is there a way to wake up the Smartwatch screen without pressing the center key. For example, can the screen turn on hand movement or say by tapping the screen?
I tried to search this in the forum but couldn't find any info.
Regards,
KS
Hi, since smartwatch firmware is closed and we can use watches only on application basis I am pretty sure it is not possible.
Odesláno z mého GT-N7100 pomocí Tapatalk
Supposedly, the SW2 has an accelerometer but I have yet to see it utilized. I had an original Sony Smartwatch for a short time, and it would turn on with the slightest movement. There was an option of turning it on by rotating your wrist while holding your forearm horizontal, but it was pretty erratic.
It kinda wish that you could set it to turn on the backlight with movement, but it's no more of a problem than hitting the button on my old digital watch to see in the dark.
It does have an accelerometer. If you leave it on the desk to charge it will switch the screen off after a while. It turns back on if you move it.

At the moment there is no way to wake up the watch by a movement of the wrist as far as I know. However, if you use a custom watch face, (like custom watch for SW2, or clocki) you can wake it up via touchscreen buttons (home button for example).
I do not know if this works for you...
Thanks all for the reply. I could have use custom clock faces but I think it will consume more battery current. Hopefully Sony will make some interesting clock faces with weather integrated.
I have used SmartQ Z watch before. What I like about SW2 is amazing battery life and that I can read contents of email and whatsapp messages on the watch itself. Pretty cool!
There will be in the nearest future an big update, seen on MWC:

Article above, translated into English:
The SmartWatch 2, which came on the market in September 2013 (as reported) , was one of the first truly mature models on the market . However, it lacked some features or there were significant inconsistencies in the operation ( for our review ) . Now, however, a major update in the wings , which is to iron out any weaknesses.
We have long especially on other watches designs, so gennante Watch Faces , waiting . Now there are five of them , which partly show even quite a lot of information . This includes, among other things, the weather and a pedometer , but also the last notification received with content and the next upcoming alarm. Whether the pedometer works in the clock itself, or the information coming from the smartphone itself , we could not exist in Other improvements concern the notification system. The icon for the news has disappeared and the notification bar , which can be drawn down from above as with Android, is now finally scrollable. In addition, you can now on the clock even choose which app icons should be shown in the home screen and from which apps you want to receive notifications . The former is particularly interesting for apps which only provide notifications, but do not have to be started manually. So you get a little more order in the icon list .
Even the design of a lot has changed . The icons of the preinstalled apps , to which now also includes a simple calculator , were easily adapted . Further, it is now finally possible to change the wallpaper of the home screen . In addition , a percentage battery indicator in some of the new Watch Faces .

I wonder how reliable this source is. Especially its claim about it being discussed/shown in MWC, which I haven't seen reported on any of the mobile tech websites such as smartwatchfans and engadget, makes me suspect it's reliability. However, things being described are really nice like the watchfaces with more info including weather etc. It is very exciting nonetheless. Looking forward to such a firmware upgrade. Lets keep fingers crossed.

Aspect Ratio Fix?

Is there any way to fix the aspect ratio when in certain video apps, like Netflix, Plex, or when watching a video through the browser, would seem to be a bit handy. Haven't found anything on this yet.

Edit: I tried with showbox it didn't work, maybe with plex u can make it work

You can force any app that exists to be fullscreen by tapping a cyan-colored circle that appears when you press the app switcher button, the circle appears below the X button in the app card. But I think OP means having a feature that crops out videos to fill the entire screen, that feature needs official support to work.

Oh I didn't know you can do that in the recent menu thank you... what was I talking here is about cropping I thought that it would also crop the video to fit the screen by doing that
I think there is some confusion between "filling the display", and changing the aspect ratio. I'm interested in this device. I went to Best Buy and held one in my hand. It's impressive, but it's shaped funny. Tall and slim. Great if you're a model, unusual if you're a smart phone. If you "fill the display", (which is really your only choice), you're going to crop the image. This is due to the unusual dimension of the display. I don't know of any other devices, TVs, tablets, or phones, with similar relative dimensions. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but I am saying it's a bit unusual. I haven't taken the leap yet because I need an unlocked, dual sim device, but while I wait, I wonder if the Note 8 will have a more conventionally shaped display........
