[ROM-DEV] Android 2.0.1-r5v0.6 (Dead) - Hero CDMA Android Development

Android 2.0.1-r5v0.6
Dead:
==============
After spending some time and looking over this rom and ways to make it work with out any legal issues. The most viable option was to build something like what cynanogen has built. His process takes the proprietary bits (all google apps including sync) and copies them off onto the SD card before doing a update. After the update it copies them back to the newly installed rom. This method basically does a automated backup/restore of your licensed applications. I can't do this for several reasons including that we are supposed to be coming from a 1.5 OS to a 2.0.1, which isn't compatible with the older application set.
Temporarily Offline:
==============
I am sorry to have to do this but we are now having more then just a small handful goofing with this ROM and I need to take this offline while I inspect each of the parts and make sure all licensing is in order since its a bit more then the google Opensource framework. I know that several other ROM creators have not paid much attention to it as I am going to now but I really don't want to upset any IP holders like what happened to Cynanogen a couple months back.
I will put it back up but I want to make sure that I am totally covered and don't have any issues.
version 0.6: download (offline)
==============
-fixed wifi thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593620
-Now starts up with Android stock keyboard. (No longer needs HTC_IME.apk for second keyboard)
A few have asked for this ROM so I thought I would put it up here for anyone that wants to contribute to or take from it.
This ROM is only compatible with the Sprint CDMA HTC Hero. It is not finished and still requires some work but its good enough for my day to day use and I am sure others may find the same potential.
This ROM is vanilla android and what it takes to actually get it running on a CDMA phone. It is built off of this GSM variant. I am going to try and work to remove the google bits so that you can use Cynanogens method of extracting your own and then doing a follow up update to install them. My efforts for this is not to build a better rom but to build a cleaner base that has limited to no proprietary IP.
Credits to all on this forum how have helped or contributed in any way to building the roms that are here. I would point out names but there are to many to name. I am positive that anyone that pays attention to this forum will know who you are. I used many parts of these ROM's and many others on XDA to build this one.
This is my first ROM and was primarily made for myself to help me learn how to create a custom ROM.
Here is the link to my blog where I originally posted about this and a video of it booting.
Here is the Youtube video of it booting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRTh-rXKe-E
*Warning*: Don't attempt to flash this ROM onto anything else unless you know what you are doing! I am not responsible for any device malfunctions or "Bricks".
Notes on Installing:
- Run a Nandroid backup before you do anything.
- Make sure you do a full wipe first. (Sorry )
- Run the update zip found * Version 0.6 *(offline) from the recovery console.
To get the HTC keyboard installed: (Now Optional as of Version 0.6)
- Follow the instructions here.
Things that don't work:
- Gallery some times has issues.
- Camera
- Wired or Wireless Tethering (Now Testing)
- Orientation
- Trackball light
- Trackball click (Rolling and moving are fine)
- (Let me know if something else needs to go here.)
Possible issues that are not repeatable:
- speaker not working on out bound calls? I made 30 test calls to my home phone and was not able to replicate this issue. Needs to be verified (see here)

Awesome! Thanks! disregard my PM lol.. Great timing.

So you installed both the HTC_IME.apk and the Clicker.apk? Did you do a adb push or a adb install?
Try and go into settings --> Language & Keyboard --> Touch Input --> Text Input?
I think its a force of habit with out really thinking to go there and calibrate but just going there may help.
Try that and let me know.

i just flashed it and pushed the keyboard and calibration app through adb and all is well. its working awesome. Thanks!!!

I would do an install or transfer them to your SD card and grab a app like Astro from the market to install them. Don't worry we will get you worked out.

Not able to get a working Keyboard Now I'm stuck in a boot loop. Tried installing through droid explorer.. no go.. tried installing from astro ..no go.. now it loads lockscreen.. dead... reboot..rinse and repeat
removed SDcard.. boots now trying to push.. but where do I push the apk files to?

Thanks, but I really can't take to much credit. Its a "Pick and Pull" from several ROMs. This one actually came from our GSM Brothers and then I used the CDMA tricks in this form to make it work.
I keep watching and playing with the Google Nexus Dumps. I would really like to get one of them up and running.

Based on your posting and replies I assume you are re-using the 2.6.27 kernel like the other roms?

Wow thats allot in a little space.
What I gather is that it originally booted, then after trying to install via droid explorer and then astro it now just dies after the lockscreen.
I am not sure where to start. I would just say to do a full wipe, then a clean install. Then if you have the sdk try the ADB install method as Cynanogen's post talks about.
I am working on trying to get the stock Android keyboard to work. If we can figure out that then we don't have to mess with the HTC one.

ok i got it i just adb pushed them to system/app works great

Yeah, actually some of your work if I remember correctly, thats why its got the same issues. My first goal when I built this for my self was to get past the blasted google bits sync loop. The more I worked into it the more I moved on to the 2.0.1 build with some of your stuff in it.
Your welcome to anything I have learned, its really not my work.

AJZ Hero Speedup Script

if you want a certain script added, chances are some1 else does too. if you have an idea, or find a script you want added, please either post or PM me. i take a look at this thread alot throughout the day, so i will be able to see your ideas quickly. YOUR IDEAS ARE IMPORTANT
first of all, i did not write this script, i took it from the thread HTC Hero Speedup v2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521421), which was put together by tehseano, who i must thank, however, it seems to only work for Haykuro's Hero ROM
THIS SCRIPT is made to speedup the HTC HERO rom on the g1's. my speedup script is made to work under JACman's. if tried on someone elses, you could brick your phone (although i doubt it), and i will not take responcibility for bricks
trying to use it under JACman 1.72, i couldn't get tehseano's script to work, so im going through a bunch of tweaking and editing for it to work under JACman roms (im guessing twistedumbrella's too).
currently, i'm about to release version 0.2. - released
i have fixed most of the directories and codes except for Battery fix, i have gotten the HTC camera to work, read the readme file
out of curiosity, does any1 have any preference on where i upload the files? want someplace easy and fast, so no rapidshare or anything like that. first working suggestion gets it
please do not use option #8 once it is up, it is not done yet
everything else should be good. this is made STRICTLY for JACman roms, not haykuro's, but twistedumbrella's should work, since it is based off of JACmans
____________________________________________________________________________________________
version 0.2 - http://www.4shared.com/file/113524687/c98398cd/AJZ_HeroSpeed_02.html
very minor changes
fixed the scripts
working on a battery fix
version 1.0 will be more compatible with JAChero 1.8, i expect to release that in the next few day, but this might not be possible because i'm going on vacation
_____________________________________________________________________
I ACCIDENTLY UPLOADED THE BAT AS A TXT FILE. im not gunna change it, so until the next release, just rename the file as a bat
0.1.5: http://www.4shared.com/file/113343120/6c89dd65/AJZ_HeroSpeed_015.html
i must thank dpgc213 for creating the original lockscreen change bat file
Changes:
deleted option to delete pc sync, causes bootloops and doesnt exist
added possibility to change the screen lock image (although doesnt have to do with speed)
added quick directions for changing the lock screen image

here's a mirror of 0.1 http://www.4shared.com/file/113320662/7e513586/hero_speedup_20_AJZ_01.html
in version 0.2, expect to see support for the deletion of htc sync, and support for changing your lock screen
can you please include instructions for mac users? thanks good work
did you get it to work with JACman 1.72, you said you would try to tweak it, but did not say if you were successful?
I dont know how to apply the script cuz its made for windows, If some1 put instructions plz?

i got all the commands and everything working in 1.72 except for #2 to work. #2 will cause a boot loop.
#2 just deletes your htc sync, which idk what it does anyways.
in 0.2, i will try to fix this, as well as add support to change your lock screen
i got the change lockscreen part in, now just gatta see the problem with htc sync

When I ran option 3, 6 and 5 in that order without a reboot and then reboot after I did all those I got a bootloop, when I did #5 it was saying success on each one. If I installed dextop-wrapper awhile back like weeks ago do I have to install it again because I didn't install it. I figured I still had it.

Yes.
That's what I'm using ti with. And it's made Rosie completely usable for the first time for me.
Has anyone had the experience where Rosie was really fast when first optimizing using whatever procedure but then lags down over time? That was what I experienced when using a different optimizer. Hopefully this one is consistent.

[ROM][32a] MotoBlur for HTC Magic 32a devices

MotoBlur 0.2 for HTC Magic 32a
Extremely experimental, try at your own risk, no support offered at all.
This was taken from Drizzy's earlier BetaBeta that I had a play with a few days ago and decided I might as well release it - he's added dream fixes, but not much of it applies to us so far from what I can see so haven't bothered updating it. Thanks should go to Drizzy for his work on getting this to start with tho!
It was a quick repack I made just to have a play with it and see what it was like - so I've added little to it.
Update: 0.2 now with a BFS303 kernel
If something's broken, don't expect me to fix it - my knowledge of the internals of it all is pretty small, but if you know HOW to fix it, feel free to let me know and if its' worthwhile I may even package it again
What's not working:
Wireless
Bluetooth
Laggy initially when the MotoBlur setup is running, but it speeds up once it's finished syncing.
Enjoy!

Anyway thanks for sharing!
Just flashed it and it boots fine
Too bad that it looks like i cant connect to motoblur's servers. I get an error which is something like "blur service seems to be busy" and i'm not able to register:\
can someone port it for 32A the rom made by Drizzy at the dream forum. He seems to able to fix many things. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557982
It's not that I dont' want a working rom - I'm just new to this and don't know how to fix all of it without a lot of trial and error
As for Drizzy drake - his one hasn't really fixed the main problems much either - which are wifi/bt and speed.
I really rushed with 0.1 - hadn't realised this wasn't cupcake and was donut and that gives me a bit more incentive to fix it.
I've started on a 0.2 release with a BFS 303 kernel, working modules, xbin and if I can, wifi working - will let you know if/when I am successful.
Let me know if you see any easy fixes in here - I'm still learning my way around a rom like this and would appreciate any help.
Cheers,
Radix999
Thanks a lot for posting the rom! You made my day!
I really see a big potential in the MotoBlur OS, it just need speed and wifi
Hope you can get it fixed

This is an update to the above rom - just updates the kernel to 2.6.29-6-BFS303.
It improves the experience a bit, but it's still very sluggish and I've not been able to get wifi/bt working:
Just download the update.zip below and apply on top of an existing motoblur 0.1 install:

They should be the same except for the ramdisk really.. I used the same kernel I compiled for CM 4.1.999 w/ BFS303
I guess you could always try it and if no luck then flash my 0.2 update afterwards
Thanks it's working
Thanks, it's working on my magic. (v0.1) I like to see how Motorola made it. I really enjoy.
BTW, how can I switch it off?
It does not respond to red Power switch. I saw Motorola's android phone had fewer switches.
I will "adb sync" few times, and pull out the battery...
and I will apply v0.2 after download.
Damm, i tried to flash it again.
I still get the following error whenever i try to register a MOTOBLUR account:
"The Blur service has indicated it is busy".
May it be that they are blocking my region or my mobile operator blocking any connection to their servers? These are the only things i can think about

Haha.. yeah, I did that too - I discovered that you can also use adb shell and 'toolbox reboot' to turn the phone off.
The Cliq has no end call button, hence why it's not assigned to do anything.

Haha. I was checking the Dream forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557982 . They are same situation.
Someone was writing about [Home]+[Menu]+[Power] switches. Is this "Reset" or "Shutdown"? If it is "Reset", it is same like "pull out the battery"....
Also, does "toolbox reboot" shutdown system properly? at least, I expect it does sync file system.
I did in adb shell "toolbox reboot", while pressing [Home] switch. It did not reboot but switched off.
How to switch off with Motorola Cliq ? There must be a proper way of shutting down the system.

A: doesn't look like it, at least not so far, I did adjust some build props right from them but never got any feedback to let it out to the masses.
Q: Does this break CM-Updater?
A: No, it shouldn't.
Q: Do i need to reflash this every time?
A: if you want navigation, yes. Every update reverts the build props back to the old ones.
Q: Does this work outside of the USA?
A: Yes. BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT YOU MUST FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY!
1. First navigate between 2 USA addresses (just enter them in to get the navigate option to show up)
2. Make a shortcut on your home screen with the address you want to navigate to.
3. Make sure turn by turn is checked.
4 click it nub.
5. drive to the location
6. brag "o mai android is wai b3tt3r thian UR ip0ne."
7. hope to god it brings you back home, otherwise buy a map.
If your paid apps are not working, either wait until midnight, for caches to clear, or flash from scratch...
IE: recovery - rooted cyano - Cyano update - navi update

alright i see the prob i think. as far as build props anyway. the only thing that needs to be changed is this line
ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/voles/sholes/sholes:2.0/ESD20/17572:user/ota-rel-keys,release-keys
the rest can stay the same.
this should play nice with other apps, and allow the new facebook as well.
edit: in this line would need to be modded in build.trout.prop for the dream and build.sapphire.prop for the sapphire
also note that you can mod the line in both and leave them in the update. cyan's roms use all 3 build props. but reads from the trout or sapphire depending on which phone it is installed on, since his roms can work on both.
working great on my wifes G1

[ROM/WIP][ICS/US 9.2.1.11] 4.0.3 Minimal

This is my first attempt at a custom ROM for any Android device, so bear with me. I did not build this from AOSP source, or any other source code. It's entirely from ASUS. This ROM is intended for those who don't like the stock ASUS apps, similar to KRAKD/FROZN, except I've not optimised any of the APKs or anything else. Hopefully this can be a useful base ROM for another dev, taking the tedious part out of the equation. It's completely based on US, not WW or TW.
It's large(300Mbyte) because I used a binary blob. I'm working on shrinking it down with a proper update sript.
Apps I removed:
Amazon Kindle
MyCloud
ASUS File Manager
MyLibrary
MyNet
Netflix
News & Weather(and their widgets)
PolarisOffice
PressReader
MyZine
Tegra Game Zone
Web Storage
Zinio
PC Sync
ASUS Software keyboard(the touchscreen one, not the dock keyboard)
DMClient(related to ASUS updates, from what I understand)
ASUS software update(so no annoying OTA notifications that you can't use anyway)
SuperNote
-any others not included that I forgot to list
How to install:
1. A complete data wipe(at least dalvik & cache, data is optional) is strongly recommended if you're coming from Honeycomb.
2. Flash the zip from CWM.
3. Enjoy your new ICS.
You should be able to flash from any ROM if you clear at least dalvik and cache.
Features:
-Pre-rooted for your convenience, with busybox, su, and SuperUser.
-ALL bloatware removed, hopefully improving performance
-Closer to an AOSP experience due to all bloat being removed.
What this ROM does NOT have:
-Custom kernel
-Stock ICS buttons(it has the crummy ASUS back, home, recent app buttons)
-Zipaligned APKs
-Deodexed APKs
-A name, since it doesn't really need one right now.
How I created it(roughly, not a step by step):
1. I reverted from a custom ROM(krakd) to the latest US .21 HC release, with stock recovery
2. I Rooted with nachoroot and then used OTA keeper to unroot
3. I updated to US ICS via OTA.
4. I reapplied root with OTA keeper
5. I used ES file manager and terminal to remove the apps
6. I used ES file manager to add SuperUser to /system
7. Installed busybox at some point during these steps, I forget when.
8. Used dd to image the /system partition(mmcblkp0) to a file on my MicroSD
9. Replaced the LNX and APP blobs of a Honeycomb update(.21) with the ICS ones
10. Flashed it, and it worked.
So it's not a "proper" update, broken down into directories and such, but it does work.

Have you tested this at all?>
Yes, why? It worked fine on my TF101.
I think everyone is always a bit skeptical of a ROM that someone says openly is their first attempt and they have less than 10 posts on here..you are after all talking about potentially rendering a $500 device useless..people are usually right to exercise caution..when the developer cannot post in the dev section because his post count is too low!
But hey, that is how Paul Burton started here, though it was not his first ROM I am quite positive..

Fair enough, I do admit I'm new to Android development, but I wouldn't release something without testing it on my own device first.

It sounds like he got the ROM and removed the third party apps, not that he got the source code to build it to AOSP.
its more a list of apps that are safe to remove with TB...... IMO anyway. Happy to wait and see if it leads to something a bit more though.
Lets make sure that no one will ever want to dev for us anymore by slapping the new guy around who took the time to try something himself. I recall Paul didnt have enough posts to start a thread in dev but he seems to know what hes doing. Why not just ban anyone whos new from ever posting any kind of dev work ever. Because what we need are more people making fun of and trashing someones work instead of people actually willing to take their time and try to make YOUR device nicer. Any wonder if this is why devs are leaving xda every day?
BTW..Just flashed this and it booted just fine. I did a system wipe first.
Maybe you should be the guy to add onskreen framework to a rom....hint

I didn't, sadly. I kludged it together somewhat by dding the fully updated ICS /system partition(adding busybox, su, Superuser beforehand) and making it into a blob that's flashable.

Correct.
Thanks for the feedback guys. If you want anything added, I'll try to accomodate with flashable zips since they're smaller to upload. My upload is horrible, so I can only upload a large ROM every once in a while(it takes over an hour!). I'm not discouraged, I know how it is to be the new guy. I know this rom's probably nothing special, but I just wanted to share what I'm enjoying with others.

Haha, it's not that custom, more of a repack with a bunch of removed apps, but I'll look into making it deodexed and stuff. I'm still learning how to do that.
Popping into a best buy and trying a different power cord when my friend gets here. Not trying to naysay. Just trying to troubleshoot.

Where to go from here
Not sure what happened, hope this didn't get posted twice.
Hi,
I am still happily using the Samsung Infuse 4G, and was running the stock GB 2.3.6. No real issues, and although starting to get a sense of it being dated was having no issues and in no rush to go out and upgrade. However, we recently purchased a 2015 Subaru Legacy with their Starlink multimedia system. The Infuse, as it was with the stock GB had no problems connecting via BT for phone and audio functionality. But, the car system reports that the phone is not compatible for messaging. In my endeavors to understand why, I thought, maybe incorrectly, that GB does not support the MAP profile.
So, that led me to, is it possible to add that, and how do you do it, or is it time to upgrade? Flash a new ROM? I can't seem to find much on the specific issue I am trying to resolve and if a new ROM would fix it, but since the phone is way out of warranty I decided to try rooting and flashing a ROM. I am new to this so I went with the Aeon 1.4 ROM based on GB 2.3.6 (I think), hoping that it was a bit less risky. Everything went well and seems to be working fine. But, it did not fix the messaging issue with the car. I assume because it is really still GB.
Am I going about this wrong? Would a flash up to ICS or beyond possibly do it? I am not totally against a new phone, but till now I wasn't even thinking about a new phone. Suggestions? Which ICS, or other ROM would you recommend? Thanks all.

I think your car requires the newest bluetooth protocol (4.0), something that is primarily hardware based.
I could be (and hopefully am) wrong here, but the only way to find out is to do a ROM walkabout.
ICS is out right off the bat, as bluetooth was borked in that version (IIRC). You'll need to upgrade to that in the process anyway, as CWM for this device doesn't like drastic changes.
I am biased, but I would try CarbonROM 4.4.4 (the latest, unofficial build) or at the very least CM 10.1. The former would have the best chance of support (being latest firmware available), but it may be overkill for your situation (newer versions = harder on battery life).
So I would try CM 10.1 after stepping up to ICS (having done a full nandroid before all this), and if the car still refuses to connect, try Carbon. Then you may be able to prove me wrong.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for your reply.
Being a hardware issue is something I have considered, but not knowing enough to understand why it might work virtually flawlessly for phone and audio streaming in the car, I was hopeful the hardware would support additional Bluetooth profiles, that are added with a new ROM. But then again, I would not be surprised to do the walkabout and end up at the store for a new phone in the end anyway.
I will be looking for an ICS ROM, but it sounds like it doesn't matter which one I use because I won't be staying there?
I have done, and will do again, backups, but I am little unclear on a few things. CWM is on the phone, but I actually used ROM Manager for the flashing I've done. Are they the same thing? It uses CWM. Also, I've seen various references to making sure the phones identity (not sure that's the right term) is saved, and I take that to mean that after flashing the phone may no longer be able to access phone carrier service. Is that a real possibility? And, is it necessary to remove the SD card? Thanks again.

I would recommend Entropy's ICS build, which I have a mirror of, accessed from my signature link.
ROM manager loads CWM (same author, ROM manager is IIRC just the Play Store delivery mechanism for CWM), so once you have CWM, you are good to go for your walkabout.
Yes, you want to make sure to back up your IMEI information first, because that stuff can get lost, which if lost, will deny you access to your carrier. There is a way to retrieve it if lost on this device, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Check the CM10.x thread on instructions how to flash (with links to the IMEI backup).
No need to remove the SD card, but if you don't need it for a flash, I would remove it anyway (or back up it's contents to your PC first - in case in the unlikely event - I'm paranoid about those things - CWM goes a little liberal with the factory reset).
Hope this helps.

Thanks Joel. I have now installed Entropy. Don't know whether everything else is working, but I do know that I can not connect to my wifi. Keep getting "authentication problem." I see that it is a known problem, but I'm not finding a solution. Not quite ready to go the next step (time constraint), so I'm hoping there is a fix, or at least a workaround. Kind of a bummer not having access to wifi. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't worry about it. Entropy is just a step-through (because BlueTooth is broken as well) and there are other ways to get the other ROMs onto the device (if they are not there already) such as adb push or MicroSD + Built-in Filemanager App. Higher versions will have that fixed anyway.

I don't have a lot on my data plan, so I rely on wifi quite a bit. But for now, not a big deal and will try to upgrade asap. No issues with getting the file to the phone, but I am having some difficulty finding a downloadable CM 10.1 (actually it is 10.2), and a gapps file for it. The XDA forum I went to doesn't work and if I go to the mirror site it tells me the file is too big or something and I'm not able to download. Haven't scoured the internet looking for it, thought I might save some time if you know where I can get it. If not, I'm thinking just try the Carbon ROM, assuming I can find it. I know you recommend CM first. George

Hi George,
My signature link contains the CM10.1 ROM (and Gapps) as well. I had problems with CM10.2 back in the day (wouldn't install), so I would recommend 10.1 over 10.2.
My Dropbox may be exhausted for the day (sometimes it gets like that) but I may have a copy on well, Copy, that I could send if necessary. Just let me know if you have problems downloading from my mirror first.

Hi Joel,
Got it upgraded to CM 10.1. All seems well. Unfortunately, it did not fix the compatibility problem with messaging and our car, as you correctly suggested might happen. Is there anything about Carbon that gives you reason to think it might work? As I said in the original post, I made some assumptions about the problem (Bluetooth MAP profile based on some reading), and that might be a software fix. But, of course, I may be completely wrong about it. Thanks. George

Hello again George,
Nothing about Carbon in general, but KitKat, yes...
Android 4.4 support for two new Bluetooth profiles to let apps support a broader range of low-power and media interactions. Bluetooth HID over GATT (HOGP) gives apps a low-latency link with low-power peripheral devices such as mice, joysticks, and keyboards. Bluetooth MAP lets your apps exchange messages with a nearby device, for example an automotive terminal for handsfree use or another mobile device. As an extension to Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3, users can now set absolute volume on the system from their Bluetooth devices.

I guess it couldn't stay easy. My attempt to install CARBON (two different download versions) failed, I am getting an error I don't understand.
First, when I go to wipe dalvik I get E: unknown volume for .... (/sd-ext) I can not read it very well because of the background image. Where I put the ... it looks like path.
Then
This ROM uses an imcompatible partition layout
Your /data will be wiped upon installation
Run this update.zip again to confirm install
Then
assert failed: run_program("/tmp/updater.sh") == 0
E:Error in /sdcard/CARBON-KK-NIGHTLY-20141102-0915-infuse4g.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Any ideas what this means? I can reload CM 10.1, so I am not bricked or anything. I appreciate your help.
I did try to get some help from the IRC forum at CARBON, but haven't gotten any replies.

There's this tutorial (section 27), but what may be happening is a drastic change in ROM's for CWM (which falls under what status 7 error scope - along with corrupted IMEI, etc).
My upgrade path long ago (coincidentally) was Stock -> CM9 -> CM10.1 -> Beanstalk 4.4.2 -> CarbonROM 4.4.4.
You can, however cheat, by disabling voodoo lagfix in CWM settings. Otherwise, you may need to find the oldest CarbonROM Kitkat you can grab (4.4.2), to make that last (small) jump to 4.4.4.
If still doesn't work, roll back to CM10.1, make sure everything is order (including calling), and try again.

Thanks again Joel.
I may have to bag this whole project. Must be a little late doing this. Too much time and trouble searching for files that can't be downloaded. I could not find an early CarbonROM KitKat to download. I could not find a BeanStalk to download. I find links that point to a defunct website. I did finally find a CM11 which I did download, but I did not see a gapps file to go with it, unless I can use any 4.4 gapps. Also, when I run CWM there is no reference to lagfix. I appreciate all the help, but I don't want to take any more of your time. George

Hi George,
Any 4.4.2 Gapps will work. I am uploading one right now (along with older Beanstalk and CM11)...
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/smohomrdx0oqn76/AACfrsgXTEHhDmVtwEWj6EA5a?dl=0
...it may take an hour for files to appear, so keep posted, if still interested.
Also, another way to disable voodoo lagfix (if not found in CWM) is to create a folder on internal storage called Voodoo, and then a folder inside that called disable-lagfix.
Hope this helps.

Hi Joel,
Unfortunately, none of these 4.4.x versions will install, same error. And placing Voodoo/lagfix/ folder doesn't seem to work either, same error. If the problem is the jump to the next version is too great, maybe an earlier version of something, 4.2 or earlier? George
