I've looked everywhere but can't find a simple way to close apps by pressing "x" in taskbar on windows 6.5 (duttys holy grail r6 LEO rom) as the smart minimize option is gone. On my topaz apps just keep adding-up until I have bugs like softkeys not working anymore. I have to launch Mst task Mgr and manually close all apps to get the phone to work properly. Finally is there a way to get the smart minimize option back without installing Wstasks or the old task manager menu where the option usually is found? . Something like a registry entry saying if I press "X" close application and not just minimize it.
thanks a bunch!

Hello,
Is it posible to call task manager in games or other full screen programs where all HW buttons are reassigned to them?
I have tryed to assign task manager to HW key in Windows settings, but it doesnt work in games etc. Only thing that woks almost every time was HTC Cube from Touch FLO v2, but it was more bad than good (because sliding up is quite common move in games) and I am not using HTC Cube at all now.
So is there any way (by long press of any button for example or special touch move), any program or any task manager where such thing is possible and works in every (or most of) game and full screen program?
Any help will be great,
thanks.
Why do you need to reach the task manager from the games?
Because some programs running in full sreen (and not necessarily games) stop responding, dont have exit button, hang-up... and I cant escape them other than soft-reseting the device.
So I need something how to reach task manager from these stucked programs and close them without reseting.
Also sometimes could be handy, if I can minimize them and switch to other program (SMS, music player etc.) and than go back. But still most important is the first thing.
Every program except the games can be minimized whith the red button... but I don't know if the WM6 can handle hung programs as a normal desktop OS... even if it comes around it's still faster to do a soft-reset (in most cases)...
Yeah I am talking about programs where red button is remaped or not working at all.
So there is no possibility how to close such apps without SR?

Click to collapse
not really... unless some1 knows otherwise...
Yes, it a Multi-Task device, but don't expect it to handle crashed apps like the desktop versions of Windows..
Ok, thanks,
even if I dont mean directly "crashed" apps like on desktop PC. But sometimes it didnt have hw exit button and touch screen didnt reponding or something like that.
Never mind I keep SR device
Clicking Start, Programs no longer brings up the Programs list on my Fuze. Instead, it takes me to the "Home" screen in TouchFlo (as if I had pressed the Home button.)
I think the Start menu link became "broken" after running \Windows\folderview.exe. (I was hoping to create a shortcut to the list of Programs.) Also, when running folderview.exe, the Programs list has 3 columns of icons...the 4-column tweak doesn't work with folderview.exe. However, clicking Start, Settings still works, and the tweak to enable 4 columns of icons is in effect for the list of Settings icons.
Does anyone have any clue as to what might have happened and how I might be able to fix it (short of performing a hard reset!) I've performed several soft resets to no avail....
Thanks for any help/suggestions!

possible solution
Try to open it in landscape mode (with keyboard out). If it works, you need to disable Large Start Menu in TouchFlo settings, it tends to freeze in portrait mode when you have too many shortcuts in the start menu. (you can alternatively remove somme shortcuts but the limit is way too low for my tastes )
Hope this helps
[Solved] Clicking Start, Programs won't open Programs list
Wonderful!!!! That fixed it. I guess the problem wasn't related to folderview.exe after all. Thanks so much!
I just switched to 6.5 from 6.1. The one thing I am noticing here is that in 6.1 most programs ended when I hit the x button on the right. On 6.5 though, when I hit the OK button on the bottom right, most programs remain open. I would love to be able to close by hitting the OK button. I have the option checked to close programs when the x button is hit. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
The reason programs closed when the X button was tapped on 6.5.0, 6.1, and all WM builds prevously was because the X button was in the top right corner. By default, WM will NOT close applications with the X button, but HTC's Task Manager did. However, now that the X button has been moved, HTC task manager can no longer close programs from the X button.
As of now, there's no known solution to this, other than manually closing the programs from the Quick Menu on the Today Screen (tap the top right corner on the today screen, and make sure it's enabled in "Task Manager" under System Settings) or going to any task manager and closing all of the programs.
program minimize rather then closing because
pda's generally have slower io then pc's so keeping then open mean if one start them again mean they start much faster
it's a common misconception that having more memory makes a faster pda
as programs don't use more mem then they require
the system will close unused apps if new started apps require more mem
then is free at the moment
the whole deal really comes down to people not fully understanding how ppc's
working and knows a bit more about how pc's work and assume it's the same deal
thanks for the clarification all
I've tried a bunch of new 6.5 UI roms and I am facing this problem with all of them.
1. The OK button (bottom right) does not close applications. It simply minimizes them. This is really frustrating since I dont know what apps are open until i pull up the task manager. This also drains battery life. How do i make the OK button close an app? (detailed instructions appreciated)
2. The earlier UI used to have a quick task manager on the top right corner from which we could switch apps and close them. that doesnt come anymore, instead i get this new and useless notification bar. How do i make it show the quick task manager? (detailed instructions appreciated)
The above 2 make it really annoying to switch/close apps because once u minimize, the only way to go back to them it seems is to pull up dot fred task manager.
3. Pressing the home button on the device while running an app (the home iconed hardware button under the screen) takes me to the opened start menu not the home screen. when i exit out of the start menu it takes me back to the app, so i cannot access my homescreen unless i press ok on the app and minimize it, is there any way to make the hom button take me to the homescreen?
Thank you in advance?
1 & 2 : use showcase : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4030896
3 : use end button instead of home (which is an HTC non-sense, get the start menu like your rom is configured is really a better idea)
fantastic app - showcase. that solves my task manager problem, but i still have to press start, go to apps and press showcase to bring it up, can i have it mapped on the notification area so i can simply fire it up without having to go to the start menu?
thanks.
I have been having issues with Showcase not wanting to install or run properly on the newest 6.5 build 23071. If I load v1.0.1 It will work for the most part and I can configure it to still to close a program by clicking on the clock.. How ever when I switch to the newer 1.1.0 build I can not get the lower X to close thing like it should by either holding it or by setting to single tap.
I'm currently doing a hard reset because of trying taskfacade and trying to go back to Showcase.
i just installed 1.1.0 and it seems to be working fine. i even managed to figure out how to bring it up from any app. just tap and hold the win key and it comes up. very nice software.
Ya I have it back up and working. The only other issue to look forward to with Showcase is that some report it closing tmail.exe from time to time. I also map my PTT short press to open it for those programs that take the full screen and do not have the Windows icon.
You can also check out AEButton+. You have to pay for it, but it's pretty cheap. I got it last week, and have no idea why I didn't get it sooner. Haven't tried it on the newer com3 builds yet (still using com2), but I'm pretty sure it will close things. It isn't tied into the displaced 'X' button like a lot of task managers. You can close apps with a button push, and it also has a nice little task manager pop-up that you can also map to a button push (similar to the htc quick menu). You also get ~dozen more mappable button pushes on a fuze. It's really worth it, although I haven't tried a com3/4 6.5 build yet.
Newer WM6.5.1 builds such as 23071... clicking on the clock brings up the new drop down taskbar...
Running HTC Task Manager, you have to tap and hold, then release to get the task manager to shop up. Does Showcase experience this as well?
It seems to be with the new builds. I would assume Showcase would function the same.
Why don't you people just use inbuilt taskmanager.exe from Windows folder? I've configured it to open with long press "send" key (talk button), and it's working great.
I use aebutton and tie it to my Ok/Back key to close apps and it's working like a treat. that's the best way to really close apps I feel
i have a custom winmo 6.5 rom aslo, everything runs good on it, except the onscreen keyboard is useless now, all i can seem to enter are numbers only and i have messed with the input settings to see if that can correct it and so far to no avail or maybe im just one of the weird people who actualy use the onscreen compact qwerty i dunno.
Hi, guys, I've been using WM for a long time but this question has always interested me. Why "x" button doesn't close the apps but it rather kind of minimizes them? Ok, it's not problem for me, because I use software that makes "x" button close the apps, but why WM was designed that way? Most of the embedded apps in WM don't even have "exit" command in their menus. It's like WM is designed to has a lot of apps/processes running in the background? I always check Task Manager to verify that there isn't any parasitic app running that can heat up my device and drain the battery.
You can enable this in settings... by default it is set to minimise programs when you tap X, and close them when you tap and hold X. Go into settings, Task Manager, Button and you can set it to close programs buy just tapping X... no extra software needed. And yep, I guess it's designed that way so you can multi task.
when you close an application with ok/x button it doesn't close and stay in ram memory, so the next time you select the same application it will start immediately from the ram..

In Task Manager, there is no setting for the "x" button. At least not in the original WM 6.1/6.5
This is screen of Dutch Rom (6.1 and 6.5) with option as described above.
Moved as not software release.
