free memory space - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

hi. van anyone tell me how to free mmore space from memory ? i have only 20 mega

do you mean storage or program?
storage move caches to storage for browsers

for program memory (130mb max)

I have around 20 mb, and I find that very low
I only installed very few programs.

Try deleting the google maps cache in /Application Data/HTC/HTC Album/Cache and GoogleMaps cache in /Application Data/Cache . I have about 300 pics on my phone, and the Albums cache was 34Mb. Googlemaps cache was another 15Mb.

Lukas

My folders are nearly empty.

to move googlemaps cache, just go to m.google.com/maps and download and install the new version from the web. When installing choose STORAGE CARD, and now the program and cache will be run and saved from storage card. After that you can safely delete the older googlemaps from \program files\ and the cache data dir in \aplication data\googlemaps.
BEWARE: doing this will save memory but you will loose the SET LOCATION in COMPASS don't know why )

because the HTC compass pulls the google maps from HTC rom, windows location, however if you istall new new google maps, and leave the inbuilt google maps, compass will use the new google maps.
basically you have to have both new and inbuilt to have compass work with new google maps.
but who uses compass anyway.
go head, delete old google maps!

if there having a program to remove the cache by 1 click will be a great news to all HD2 user.
or is there any way we can set a limit to the cache size of each program and they will delete the old cache automatically?

Opera 8.65 released - problems

The lastest version of Opera has just been released, but the normal way to get the cache from memory to the Storage Card, and also input.ini settings seems to have been removed.
A Cannot find input.ini or the cache on memory or storage card, any ideas on changing the settings (mainly cache to Storage Card and change page movement to paging not "next link").
I simply installed Opera 8.65 to my storage card using the downloaded installation cab. Opera now simply stores cache under \storage card\application data\Opera. Don't remember doing any special settings
On the previous versions (that were in beta) the cache was in memory, but XDA-Developers published a way of getting the cache to Storage Card, but as you pointed out, Opera have done this for us now - I must have been blind not to notice the new place for the cache.
Many Thanks
Sad to see that the developers still have hidden the favorites. Five clicks just to open a favorite is just plain stupid. Specially in a handheld.
How is the performance compared to PIE ?
- Much faster?
- A little bit faster?
- Slower?
storage card only?
I want to install the app in main memory and the cache in the storage card. With the new version im stuck

Available Storage: 0.82 MB

i installed vjgrace v3.7 on my qtek 8310 including all applications.
after playing around with google maps i get an error that there is insufficient storage available. i deleted one file, so now i have 0.82mb available and the phone works again.
how can i free more storage?
btw: i have installed all applications on the sd-card.
if i reset google maps i have 2.4 mb available....
hmmm... sounds terrible
expected value for Your ROM just after hard reset is afaik 19.97 MB...
if apps are on SD card...
- check IE cache...
- a lot of e-mails?
- a lot of mms?
- photo/video stored in device?
- ringtones stored in device?
- java midlets? no, that's impossible
- 'forgotten' cabs?
maybe U should look manually (using PC would be probably fastest way) where - except /Windows - U got a lot of files or large file/files?
Hard reset...

[solved] Why do certain Application not install on Storage Card?

i had a problem with available storage being very low.
i installed all applications to the storage card. but now, checking because of the low storage, i see that
- acrobate reader
- google maps
do install on the device. but i choose to install to the storage card...
why is this and what can i do against it?
Google maps cache is stored in your main memory, clear it
@karhoe, thanks for your reply
there is an application called MobileAppMover (http://www.iaccarino.de/silvio/ppcstuff.htm) which allows to change all registry entries of a certain application to be changed to another path.
so if you want google maps or adobe reader to be installed on the storage card and free some mb of device storage, follow this procedure:
install application to device
use MobileAppMover to change path (e.g. from \Program Files to \Storage Card\Program Files)
move directory \Program Files\your application to \Storage Card\Program Files\ using Total Commander
edit the *.lnk file in the \Windows\Start Menu with Total Commander
done
it worked for me with google maps (only the cache stays on the device, this can be cleared using google maps options) and adobe reader!
now my device rocks again with over 6mb available storage, before it was less than 1mb!
btw: there used to be tools linke cabinstl and cab installer, but since wm5 the don't work anymore!

Why dont you try and let us know

internal memory (getting more out of the G1)

everyone know the g1's internal storage isn't very big (not complaining i still love the phone)
i just made this thread for people to post ways on how to better use the limited storage of the phone.
examples
going to: Settings -> applications -> manage applications and clearing the data of high memory usage apps like:
browser(will delete bookmarks and saved passwords),
youtube(will delete),
maps, and streetview,
Download Manager
html viewer
media storage (brings ring tones back to default)
package installer
*myfavs* (clears all contacts and redial list)
settings (defaults background and items on the main screens)
System linking caches to sdcard
browser cache to sdcard (works with steel and mippin)

if anyone has any other tips to saving memory like multifunction apps that replace more than one other apps like "handstand" and "telegraph.co.uk" please post
In addition, is there any progress in saving apps to the sdcard? also seeing as though some people have root access, is it possible to uninstall apps that came with the phone like the im application?
only good if u have root access...

Redownload maps/free up space

All right. I'm trying to add more music to my phone, but i'm running short on space. And i noticed that there is a lot of pre-loaded data on the micro SD card that came with the phone. And that data is the pre-loaded map data.
I was wondering... if i were to delete this data, would i be able to redownload it using a WiFi connection? If so, how?
I'm disappointed to see that the SD card is 8GB in capacity, yet i'm only given about 2.7 GB to actually use.
Damn maps...
Just copy everything from the SDcard to your PC/Mac as a backup. Then format the SDcard and upload the music.
S**t happens you can just copy the stuff back from the PC/Mac.
What map is the data for
If the map data is from google map, you can download them with the newest version of google map, in which you can select areas to download offline maps. If it's from other map, copy it to a PC is a good way.
