I am having terrible difficulty getting my phone to connect via HTC sync. All of the drivers are installed, it says it see's my phone properly, but it remains disconnected at all times. One time out of maybe 10 or 15 it will work, but I cannot get it working consistently. I am using 32bit Win 7, and I'm not sure what the heck is going on. The only version of Sync I've been successful connecting with is 2.05. 2.08 has never worked.
Am I missing something? Doing something wrong? Its making it impossible for me to get things done on my phone, and its driving me mad. I keep uninstalling and reinstalling. I keep rebooting my phone, etc. I'm at my wits end.
it never worked for me, but at the same time i never needed it
Are you sure the drivers are properly installed? Are you able to use adb? I've heard (and experienced) there's trouble getting the drivers to install properly on Windows 7. If they aren't properly installed, you can install them manually:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7/
If they are installed properly, are you seeing the HTC Sync notification on your phone when you plug it in? There's a sync "daemon" on the phone that makes the connection to the computer. Is it possible you removed it? I'm not sure what apk it is.
Hardly ever, I just use the Google clouds to do my synching...and there are issues with that
It says the drivers are properly installed. My phone is rooted, and I've used adb when I can get the phone to sync. I get errors when I'm using the command line at other times. I don't know if there is a way to use adb shell if the phone isn't synced. Thats what bothers me. For instance, I tried to get # while not sync so I can install the new 1.5.1 recovery image. When I go adb shell I get this line
/ #
instead of just
#
I'll try to manually install the drivers, and see how that goes. Thanks for the replies.
Sync doesn't play nice with Vista 64 thus no sync for me.
What I did was export all of my contacts stuff to a .csv file and uploaded it into my gmail account then did a sync with gmail.

sync doesn't play nice with many people at all
Im getting really pissed about this issue with adb.
I updated HTC sync, then it worked fine untill i disconnected phone.
Then i did the workaround with drivers that is posted all around internet, but it did not help.
Has anyone got any other solutions than manual install of drivers or updating htc sync?
I feel like searching for solutions for 4 hours is enough for me.

Sync won't work if adb is running.
Kill adb.exe
Sync doesn't play at all on my wife's lappy but works perfectly on my pc and lappy. Go Figure!!
Workaraound worked for me
I was referred to the workaround already referred to at mydigitallife by HTC customer service and it worked fine for my HTC Hero (Telus). Although my phone was never listed as My Htc Phone like the directions state, just plain old Android phone. Nevertheless, the workaround worked for me.
Windows 7 64 bit with HTC Hero (Telus).
I found that while sing windows 7 (x86 or x64) Windows kept reloading a ASUS/Gamin driver for the ADB.. so what I did after installing the HTC sync was to open device manager and open the ADB device and right click on the device and uninstalled the offending device.. and selected REMOVE driver/software when it asked..
then all was good.. and it used the "My HTC" or DREAM driver.. and worked fine...
again...if you remove all instances of the driver and start over, following these directions, it should work.

I have been working around the WMDC version 6.1.6965 for x64. I could connect my Touch Pro and even browes the folders & files but I could not setup a partnership (i.e. sync with Outlook)!
I am running Vista Ultimate x64 and Office 2007 including Outlook. Everytime I connect and try to setup the connection an error triggers "There is a problem with your connection. Please disconnect and reconnect your device and try again"!
I tried every possible solution but non worked. Searched the forum for a stright-forward answer but with no progress.
Any help?
I've got the same setup you have except I'm running Office 2003. Are you syncing using bt or the usb cable? I generally have much better luck using the usb cable. Also, if you've already fixed this, does it now work with Office 2007?
I think this could fix
I was having the same problem and I downloaded the WMDC from the microsoft web site and it is solved. wish you all luck

Mine works no problem....same exact set up....been running it since the Mogul...acts uo every now and then....make sure you delete all the partnerships and re-connect....
same problem
I'm having the same problem and I have tried everything. I have uninstalled wmdc restarted, cleared reg keys, and reinstalled. Still the same problem. It started when I flashed ROM's, but after I flashed back to the OEM ROM it still is happening. Any ideas?
i had the same issue as you and fixed it.
delete the connection from the PC, and delete the connection from the ppc.
so that both have no synced computers/ppc
ok, how i uninstalled wmdc..
uninstall both the driver, and the program from the pc using the remove programs..
then go into windows/windows mobile
and delete as much as you can from the windows mobile folder
(you wont be able to delete all of it)
then rename the directory.
i just renamed Windows mobile to trash
then i got on the net and re-installed wmdc
but mine had nothing to do with the ppc or wmdc.
it had to do with..... HTC album 2.5
when installed on the ppc, it would not allow any outlook data to sync.
once i uninstalled it from the ppc all was fine.
try that.
you will be surprised on what programs interfere with different things.
but before you uninstall this and that, check to see what version of HTC album your running.
if 2.5.... try uninstalling it and seeing.
when i uninstalled it, i didnt even reset my ppc and it worked.
PS it took me 3 days and numerous Hard resets to figure this one out.
hope it helps.
".make sure you delete all the partnerships and re-connect...."
how to delete the partnerships in WMDC (in PC not the PPC)? i already search it in all the control panel and the WMDC itself. (in PC)
can u give some screenshoot? it might be in FORUM STICKY if it works right.
PS:
btw anyone can flash in VIsta 64Bit? until now i couldn't make it, just until the Prophet go white blank then no respond at all
anyone please reply the problem please...
it can be sticky for all the world best solution for WMDC sucks!!!

sorry my dear friend but my WMDC can't even make any Sync Partnership so how could i delete it?
when i'm gonna connect it with my Prophet WIn6.1 it recognize it but when i want to setup any Sync it then came the error "Connection Problem, Please Disconnect and Reconnect"
then it make me months just to watch it can't sync anymore T-T
i already uninstall it both the Driver Update and WMDC itself, the remove all files in Windows/ Window Mobile but not all file can be deleted, so i rename the folder. then Reinstall again but still the same problem. the last thing i haven't try is to reinstall my OS which is Vista Ultimate SP2 64bit. coz i haven't got any clue how to pack all my update so can use it again after clean install. can u suggest any program or how to pack all my update?
sorry if this is really Out Of Topic. really appreciate the help and the time. thanks.
has anyone gotten it to work?
At first after I installed the latest one from the HTC site, at least my device's MicroSD card would be recognized if I chose to mount the card as a new drive.
Now, NOTHING works between my Evo and my computer. The HTC Sync starts, and immediately comes up with "Cannot find configuration" and then exits.
Does anyone know what's going on with the HTC Sync and Evo's connected via USB cable from the phone to the computers?
Nothing has worked, not reinstalling, not rebooting, nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have given up on HTC sync for now. I installed sdk packages and I think that is where I got my drivers for the phone from. I havent had to use HTC sync since.
It was working fine before, but now I had to plug and unplug Evo from my computer a few times, and then change from the status bar Sync mode. The last time, when it finally worked, I unplugged the cable from the computer end, while the program was already running. After plugging it again, I changed the setting again to Sync (from the status bar) and finally worked. It's crappy. 4 attempts.
I've had an issue with it a few times, I had to uninstall and re-install it. Re-installing it is probably your best option.
There is as newer version up on the Sprint website for EVO.
I don't use it but my wife does and it is driving her crazy as it only seems to work about one time in eight. Of course she moved her entire calendar from her CURVE. And she never archives our removes calendar events. With over five years of event history I suspect the Sync operation is overwhelmed.

This. But that is just stupid. You shouldn't have to reboot your computer and phone to run a program. HTC sync sucks. I'm sorry HTC, I love the phones, the evo is brilliant, but the fact that windows 7 compatibility is horrible even after "updates to correct compatibility" is beyond me. I tried installing the new updated one for the evo and now I am getting admin permission problems and I can't even install it. I tried running it as admin. Same thing. Horrible.
i have a Desire HD and it started acting up a few months back. up til now, i had tried so many methods from re-installing Sync, factory resetting my DHD and stopped short of reformatting my laptop coz it was really bugging me to not be able to sync my outlook with my DHD.
i read in one of the threads (but culd not find it now) and it suggested tat to charge the phone using the external charger till it is fully charged. then connect to the HTC Sync software using the usb wires. at first, it sounded too simple to be true but i was at wits end, and tried it. to my surprise, it worked. so happy ! Finally, i can sync my outlook contacts with my phone's contact. hope tis helps.
I had issues with HTC sync after I updated to the latest HTC sync. reverted back to version 3.0.5422 that I had been using before & now it syncs every time again.
Is HTC software junk
I have a relatively new HTC Inspire 4g.
Set it up to sync. Worked no problems. Today, about 2 weeks later, I go to sync again and no connection.
Yellow charging light comes on when I hook up so I know it is getting power. Given the number of other people that have had similar problems makes me question the design and quality of HTC products.
I am fortunate in the my exchange / contacts / calendar synces over wireless.
I reset my phone and now I cant resync with my outlook. It keeps asking me for a damn certificate. Its this stupid WMDC in windows Vista . When I first sync back 2 years ago, it was in XP with the Active Sync software. That was a breeze. Now this crap wont let me do anything. I need to sync to my work email wirelessly. Its useless to get my updates only when I plug the phone to the PC. Thats why I am in front of the PC, I dont need the phone anymore. I tried the search tool and nothing came back that seems similar to mine.
Thanks.
Here is the fix in case yous all run into this crap.

More detail in post # 8
Hi All
Just moved from an HD2 to the rather sensational Sensation - am enjoying its functionality enormously!
What I'm struggling with is pretty fundamental - HTC Sync
I installed the latest version on my WinXP PC. When I connected the Sensation, nothing happened. I tried launching HTCSync manually, and sometimes I would get the splash screen and sometimes nothing. Basically, I can't even begin to sync the phone.
I tried installing HTCSync on another PC (A windows 7 laptop). This time, I got the splash screen and then it froze. Then when I rebooted, not even the splash screen.
When connected the Sensation tries to find HTC Sync, but eventually gives up saying: ' 'Can't find HTC Sync blah, blah'
I've installed and uninstalled many times now on both the XP and Win7 machine, but this hasan't made any difference.
On a positive note, if I opt for treating the Sensation as a drive using HTC Sync (when the window pops up on my phone to choose), I can 'see' the phone that way.
So it's not a complete disaster.
I'm pretty competent with WinMo phones, but my newness to Android, is making reluctant to tinker with anything!
Is there anyone out there who could point me in the direction of a solution?
Thanks
The way I do it is have HTC Sync open and then put the device in the HTC Sync mode. Have you tried that?
Sinking with Syncing
Yes, sorry, forgot to mention that I have tried to use 'sync' mode
Hmm, did you try a hard reset on your phone?
Sinking with Syncing
Yeah, that too! - no change!
HTC Sync kinda sucks. Try this. You'll need to get the desktop client as well & it syncs perfectly.
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client
Also see if you have a Firewall enabled, it gave me problems on Vista just because I had Windows firewall enabled (and never asking me if I wanted to use this app or to block it, really strange).
I don't use HTC sync now but I remember reading somewhere that you need to install adb driver in your phone. There should be a htc sync folder in your Sd card. I ever had the same problem as you. I didn't know about the adb drivers and I gave up on htc sync. I then tried android-sync which installed adb drivers in my previous android phone during the set up. After the installation, htc sync worked! So I did not use android-sync and was happy to use htc sync. Now, I sync my sensation with gmail. Hope my information on adb drivers will point you in the right direction.
HTC Sync
Well, I've given up on HTC Sync. The workaround for me was that I only needed it to sync calendar, tasks and contacts. Google does that over the network with Events and People, so I just needed to set up a ToodleDo account and data is synced.
Strange though, couldn't get HTC Sync to work on ANY PC here.
Never mind....
Steve
Hi
I've just come over from an HD2 also, and I had the same problem.
I tried to sync my Sensation with my laptop and it did the same as yours
I tried to sync an old Hero with my laptop and this would not work
I then tried to sync my daughters Desire HD with my laptop and it worked
I tried to sync a Desire with my laptop and it didn't work first time but on the third attempt it worked.
So I kept trying the Sensation until it worked.
It now connects first time.
Syncing feeling
Yeah, it's all a bit bizarre, I got a mate round with a Desire and his connected first time, then when I tired to connec tmine, it also connected.
Strange!
I installed the new HTC Sync Manager, but when it attempts to detect my phone, my laptop goes BSOD. I've tried to rebooting the phone, but it doesn't help. Anyone else having this problem?

I also had this problem. I think I just reinstalled the Sync Manager and it worked fine, but I also remember some hiccup involving the order I started up Sync Manager, plugged in the phone, and told the phone to go into "sync" mode. If reinstalling doesn't help try playing with that order. Sorry I don't remember specifically what I had to do, but I did have that problem and eventually got it to work.
