Using goldcard to root - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

to use the goldcard method to root....dou hav ehave to change your spl or can u skip that step

Using goldcard method actually change your SPL...
You use goldcard only wen you are unable to root your phone because of a perfect SPL. It's impossible to change an SPL when you have a perfect SPL installed.
I believe that if you have a perfect SPL and you manage to get root, you cna change the perfect SPL using a custom recovery.

can anyone help me with this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5175739#post5175739

how can i install an old ROM ?

i am using currently AKU3.3 jester b1 and want to install JAMin's old ROM but the flasher is giving an error and asking to use a newer version of nbf file.
is there a way to install an old ROM to my device ?
try to cook a rom with the nk.nbf from your "old rom" using this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043
this rom will install on spl 2.20 also if it's for spl 2.15
when you tried installing your "old rom" it stops at 95% right?
i had the same problem with my german rom and after using this tutorial i can now use the spl 2.15 rom with my spl 2.20 prophet
good luck
this can brick my phone as it is vey risky.
is there a simple way just to flash my phone to an old ROM i mean from 2.20.7.34 to 2.13.9.23 ?
If you had read the post of risidero carefully you would know that it could NOT brick your phone
it modifies your rom so it doesnt contain any IPL nor SPL data. they are staying untouched
the only risk is a non booting ROM which you can simply flash againt when going to bootloader (hold camera button while soft reset)
risidoro said:
By following this tutorial, you're removing both the bootloaders (IPL and SPL) from a rom of your choice. This means that, if you don't make errors while 'cooking' the rom, you cannot completely destroy (brick) your phone. Sure, you could end up with a non-booting rom but, as long as you can get to the three colors screen (the bootloader screen) you'll always be able to install a different (or your previous) working rom.
On the other hand, messing with IPL and SPL (i.e. installing a rom containing IPL and SPL in a CID locked device) is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and MUST be avoided in most cases!!!
Installing a 2.xx rom without messing with your phone's IPL and SPL is exactly what this tutorial tries to explain.

Hello.
I am just about to flash a new SPL onto this stock device - however i just read a guys post saying that he lost his 3g/Edge connection when he flashed his SPL which is the same as mine.

Is this a common error when you flash this SPL?

You can Flash it with no worries... All you have to do is use the goldcard method... Remember to backup your APN settings...
The 3g problem is to the Chilean magic related... But I found the solution to it...
You will not have the same problem...

Thank you for the answer. May i ask, what SPL did you flash onto it? And did you create a recovery before or after the new SPL was applied?

Hi pixelkid,
My Magic had the same (pefected) SPL and I've changed it with Amon_RA's goldcard method (I chose Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010). Everything works!
EDIT: With a perfected SPL, the recovery change can only be done after its change!
Hi. I also have 1.33.0014 and have successfully made a goldcard and put the eng 1.33.2010 on it (named sappimg.zip) it loads fine in Hboot but then it sais that the update is an older version so it won't let me. Any ideas?
My SPL is in my signature, but any ENG SPL should do the work...

HBOOT 1.33.0010 to Engineering SPL - "Main Version is Older"

did anyone come close to solving the Perfected SPL problem with HBOOT 1.33.0010 ?
We keep getting "Main Version is Older" when trying to apply the Engineering SPL using a goldcard... any solutions out there?

Don't need a goldcard method
DO YOU HAVE 32A MAGIC? ELSE DON'T DO IT. 1.33.2010 not recommended to flash over 32B-devices
If you have firmware version Cupcake 1.5 just flash last recovery
Then via recovery flash only ENG 1.33.2010: http://rapidshare.com/files/267475618/update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip
wait, dont we have to follow this guide [How-To] Fix perfected SPL (fastboot remote: not allow)
since we do have a perfected SPL?
and yes my device is a 32A
so i renamed the file you game me to update.zip, put it in the SD card, then booted to recovery mode and tried to run the update.zip but it said that there was no signiture and it failed. any ideas?
did you tryied the one click method???
Try using flashrec to do it...
Or...
Using the goldcard method ensure you havce done everything right to make the goldcard and use the first sappimg.zip (v2.53.707.2) in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218
All you need to do is to keep the name as sappimg.zip (remove the numbers) and start your device with volume down + power...
the flashrec did work... thanks

Question about flashing original spl to engineering spl!!

my spl now is 1.33.0008 (not perfect spl) and my radio is 3.22.20.17. i want to flash my spl to engineering one like 1.33.2010
i read cursordroid's thread before. it says that just download the signed ZIP archive which includes SPL 1.33.2010, put in the SD root, and flash it in recovery
but i just saw somebody report this method bricked his phone.
does cursordroid's way actually work or just brick your phone? and if it doesn't work, is there another way?
BTW, my phone is PVT 32A
anybody help?
I used this method and it worked fine. I had 1.33.0010 and changed it to 1.33.2010 from update.zip in recovery

Upgrade to Radio 6.35.10.18 ONLY

Hi,
My phone is running in radio 3.22.20.17, SPL 1.33.2010 but S-ON which prevent me from using the fastboot flash command as explained by cursordroids in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239
I'm thinking of using another procedure by using Amon RA recovery image and flashing signed update.zip for the radio and for the SPL.
The problem with this procedure is that my phone reboots in between the two updates (the radio update and the spl update) so at one point, i've got a phone running Radio version 6.35.xxx and the old SPL 1.33.2010.
I've no idea how the phone will react. Am i going to birck it ? Does anybody already tried this ?
Thanks for your feedbacks.
Seriously? Did you even read his instructions?
----- If you do not have an Engineering SPL, download 1.33.2010 and flash through recovery before starting this procedure. Flash the SPL update.zip like any other update.zip file.
Straight from his post.
How much more simple does a dev have to make it in order for members like you to do this.

Seriously, did you even read what he wrote?
He has an engineering SPL already but his phobe is still showing S-ON.
Now, what i would do if i were him is the following.
Test if the command fastboot boot recovery.img works.
If it does then i would flash the radio through the recovery, afterwards i would boot the HERO recovery and use it to flash the new spl.
Bare in mind that i did not test this method and nor do i plan to test it.
Hi,
Thanks eygor that have pointed correctly my situation.
So YES i can fastboot (i need to add some flags as my magic disable the sdcard by default) and this what i'm going to use.... flashing via a signed zip file BUT i do not know how the phone will react by having a radio 6.35.10.18 dissociated from the SPL (still in version 1.33.2010....yes the engineering version).
Anybody has had any experience with this. ?
Question:
- My rom is rooted, am i able to use flash_image to update the SPL and the radio ?
- Receovry_Ra does not provide the flash_image command or am i wrong ?

LOL Please show where he says that it's an engineeringSPL.
Anyways, if you got fastboot working why not work from there? If you're asking what I think youre asking cause I'm not sure... you just flash radio in fastboot and then flash SPL (doesnt matter if you still have the old spl , just flash the new one after radio) then flash recovery
1.33.2010
Sounds like an engineering SPL.
If you have a 32A device, use the 3.04.401.2 Europe RUU with a goldcard. Then use the SU within that ROM to install hero recovery. Finally use hero recovery to flash the rest of the stuff you need.

Hi xaueious,
I've read the article explaining the use of 3.04.401.2 Europe RUU with a goldcard.
They clearly mention to copy rom1.zip into the Goldcard and rename it SAPPIMG.zip
(see post from JcMatos http://forum.xda-developers.com/printthread.php?t=625108&pp=10&page=7)
My problem is that rom1.zip does not contain any upgrade of the radio or the SPL (it's contained in the rom.zip). So if i follow correctly the instruction, i get my magic updated with a new rom but still with my old SPL and Radio remains identical. I do have a high risk of having my magic bricked.
Am i missing something ?
