Manila 2.1 email tab and default folder view - General Questions and Answers

Rhodium (TP2) on stock Sprint Rom with Manila 2.1.
I just set up google gmail sync with active sync. My email wasn't showing up using the default "inbox" folder. I went to manage folders and clicked to sync the gmail "All Mail" folder within the list. When I set the view within outlook to the All Mail folder, I can see my email-- my messages were finally pushed to my device. Yet, when I change the view back to the default inbox--no email. Fine, I can live with that. I will just keep the view on the All Mail folder. Remember, this is all within the outlook app.
The problem is the mail tab on Manila only shows the default inbox folder, so it shows up blank. My question is: Is there a way to change the default folder within outlook so that the messages will show up within the email tab of manila. I guess, alternatively, is there a way to change which folder manila examines within outlook to view mail on the email TF3D tab. I hope I'm being clear.
Thanks.
Matt

Up! Up! Up!
I had the same issue with manila_mail 2.5, i want to choose the outlook folder wich is displayed in Manila tab.
Anybody ?
Thx

Syncronizing Outlook calendar with .pst

Hi guys!
I need yous help or comments here.
I have PPC WM6, Outlook 2003.
I have downloaded a .pst file for a sports tournament here in South Africa.
I have imported it to my Outlook calendar, and the appointments appear on my PC, but does not sync to my PPC.
I saw something about a PPC not being able to sync personal files etc.
I wanna know, is there an easy way to get the PPC to sync the Appointments to my PPC. I saw some software and stuff, but not sure if there is a easy way to do it?
Can someone help here??
Thanks guys!
I have included a Screenie of how my setup looks! Thanks!
Anyone that can help with this please!
I think there should be some thing in Outlook configuration for selecting your main synce source files. may be outlook only sync your ppc with your default pst file.

Thats indeed what happens.
But how do i get that part of the Calender to sync with the main .pst?
I did in once before, but i used a different .pst file, i think that was configured to link upto the main pst.
Its strange, becuase this .pst that i loaded for the sports event created a second type of calendar, i dont know how to set it to sync with main!
Any ideas??
Thanks guys!
As I understand it, ActiveSync, will only sync the default folders in your OutLook account, i.e. the ones in your exchange server. However, you can specify to Outlook to deliver new mail, appointments, etc. to a pst file automatically, thus making the folders (calendar, contacts, mail, etc.) in the pst file available for syncing to the PPC. This is they way I have setup my PC at the moment. Merely "importing" the pst file to Outlook will not change the default folders that are used to deliver new items and to sync with the exchange server and the PPC. This is why you can see the 2 calendars side by side. If you only want to have some specific appointments made available to the PPC I would recommend just copying them to the default calendar folder.

Hi!
Where is the default calender folder located?
Thanks alot!
(If i copy this .pst to that folder, will it sync??)
Thanks
I'm afraid is not that simple... In the screenshot my PST folders (personal) are on top and my default Outlook Folders are below. In your case your default folder is "CALENDAR" and your PST Folder is "Super 14". Simply copying the folder inside outlook will just create a "Calendar2" folder below the default one. The easiest way would be:
1. Open the "Super 14" Calendar which contains the appointments you want to sync to the PPC.
2. Change the VIEW to "ALL APPOINTMENTS".
2. Then, EDIT -> SELECT ALL.
3. Now you can either EDIT->COPY and EDIT->PASTE them into your "CALENDAR" folder OR move (EDIT->MOVE TO) them there. BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT ONCE THEY ARE MOVED IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THEM FROM THAT CALENDAR, OR TO RETURN THEM TO OLD ONE.
Try it first with a couple of appointments and see if you can sync them to the PPC.
Make a copy of your PST file first, so you can go back if it gets screwed up.

force sync of IMAP folders

Hi,
I have the problem that on my WM61 I do not get an actually list of imap folders to subscribe. I'm able to read my mails in the inbox and I'm able to send new mails. But I can't subscribe to any folder in my inbox.
The Server itself is fine, I testet it with FlexMail and it work's pretty fine - but I want to use the Standard Messaging application.
Is there a way to get an actual list of the imap folders ?
Cheers Wolle
Does nobody have any idea?
Try the right softkey: Menu->Tools->Manage Folders...
You should then be able to check the boxes by the folders you want to synchronise, and also you can tap and hold for an options menu that allows you to alter each folder's synchronisation settings from the global ones.
Hope this helps
Martin
Hey MArtin,
thanks for your replay. The problem is, that in the mentioned menu, I can't see any subfolders even they are present on the server
Cheers Wolle
Ah, sorry. I have no idea why that would be

Email notifications for new mail in subfolders

Hi all,
I am new at this forum and I just bought my Topaz a few days ago. Everything (internet, email) is working without any problems, but there is a little thing for which I haven't found a solution yet.
For the mails arriving in a subfolder (I am working with Microsoft Exchange Server), there is no notification (the green "bubble" in TouchFlo3D). I looked around for this problem, but I have started to become more and more convinced it's a big problem without a solution.
Now I am wondering, has any of you solved this?
Thanks!
lol i dont know how can i make sub folders yet in D2 lol

To receive mail in the subfolders, you have to synchronize each folder individually. You can do this by ticking the box before the name of the subfolder when you are using ActiveSync.
But this doesn't help to get notifications... Anyone?
How to Sync subfolders in ActiveSync(Smartphone)
1) Open your inbox on Smartphone
2) Select Menu on the bottom right of the screen and then select Tools
3) Select Manage Folders
4) Place a check mark next to all folders that you wish to synchronize data for. If folders are contained within the Inbox or other folders, you can expand the folder list and select sub-folders. You can also decide to synchronize the Sent Items folder to that emails you send via your Smartphone also appear in the Sent Items folder on your desktop Outlook software.
Auto expand folders + make them bold.
Is there and setting (reg) or cab that kan auto expand folders/subfolders and make them bold when new incomming e-mail has arrived?

You have to start the E-mail (Outlook) program from start menu, not just the "Mail" from the Notification.
In Outlook you can choose from subfolders list.

[Q] Gmail issue help needed - wp7

Hi I own an Omnia 7 and also own a iphone 4. I am loving my Omnia 7 but there is one thing really bugging me. I have email accounts sync and on my iphone 4 I notice on sync all sent items (sent outside of the phone) are downloaded.
I have sync'd my gmail account and inbox is fine, but when I go into the sent folder and sync nothing happens! Is this a wp7 bug or an issue with my phone? I assumed it would download all my sent emails from my account from the last two weeks but sent items inbox is empty.
Just signed up to xda but have read this forums for years but registered in the hope someone out there can help me!
many thanks in advance.
i can't speak for gmail, but with my hotmail account, after "show all folders" and viewing the sent items folder, then selecting sync this folder, i was able to get it to sync fine. all the way back to emails from may.
do you have a hotmail account you could check against? is it just gmail?
this is happening to my gmail as well. I am using an hd7.
most inboxes load but the "sent" and "outbox" folders do not sync.
One way I found around this was to sync the "all mail" folder. This will allow me to see both inbox and sent mail. however, it also shows mail in the trash
If anybody has any insight into this issue please advise. thanks

You do the same w/ gmail and it will sync the outbox folder.
Thanks for responses and glad to hear I am not the only one. Its doing it for hotmail and gmail. Just tried suggestion by @mrroey and no joy. Its a very strange issue. I assumed it would download all my sent emails from last two weeks but not working only showing sent emails that were sent from the device itself. Anyone else getting this?
I had this same problem with Windows Mobile. Gmail puts sent mail in the "sent mail" folder. The name of the folder in Outlook is "sent items". Since the names do not match the folders do not sync as you would expect. With WinMo I just added "sent mail" as a synced folder. "sent mail" does not appear in the folders list for WP7.
Workaround: Go to settings in the Gmail web client. Create a new filter in the filters tab. Enter your email address in the from box. Click next. Check "Apply the label". Choose "sent items" from the drop down list or create the label if it doesn't exist.
Optional: Check "Apply to the conversation below"
Click Finish
This works perfectly for me.
Google uses a whacked out version of ActiveSync. It's not the Official ActiveSync that Microsoft uses for Exchange/Windows Live, AFAIK.
So there are some issues with it that may pop up.
thanks! creating labels seemed to fix the problem. great workaround.

Works OK on my HD7 many thanks!
If you don't require push email then you can just set up gmail using IMAP. You should be able to sync any folders using that method.

How to make e-mail app check folders

I can't find any settings that forces my hotmail or live accounts to check folders. Basically now I don't get pushed notification if there's an e-mail automatically sorted to a folder by hotmail. Thanks
