I just wanted to put out there if it's possible to have the Droid Media Dock option on our Hero's. It's a nice interface that I'd like to use on my Hero. Is it available for Hero 1.5? Or would we have to wait till we get 2.0?
Thanks.

isn't that just for the Motorola Droid?
I believe I read that the Droid's bedside interface was activated through a magnet in the special dock you have to buy to use it.
That said, I'm sure someone will make an app that replicates the functionality. Something that keeps the phone alive while plugged in and after x minutes of inactivity goes into "bedside mode".
I haven't looked around, but it might already be out there?

It is just for the Droid, but that doesn't stop anyone from porting it to other devices,
It is activated by the magnetic dock, but like you said, someone should be able to have an app to make up for the magnetic dock functionality.
I just like that interface, it's clean and looks really nice with the whole weather/photos/music tabs. I think I'd be a solid addition to the CDMA Hero.
If anyone has come across it, feel free to point us in that direction.
they made an app for that but its for the droid only its called DOCKRUNNER

It would be a nice Locale plugin, so you could have it come on when plugged-in at home, but not plugged-in while driving.

You can always switch input methods when you want to use voice, and use the swype version we already have

The Droid X version would be great... but I it can be even forced to work on the EVO, since I'm sure the resolutions are different.

The droid x multi touch keyboard was ported to evo already so I'm sure swype can be
Bump, I'd like this as well
+5 I to would really like to have the SWYPE version from the droid x with the mic button!! The funny part is that the droid x has already been dumped and what not so how hard is it to to get it to work an put into an .apk file?? I wish I knew how or I'd do it lol... but it's already been done with there muti-touch kb and other ports have come from the new Galaxy S phones of different apps!!
i have a droid x at work, ill see if there is a way to pull swype off it. i already got NFSShift off it, but it doesnt run right on the evo you cant see anything
Ok I have it, I'll upload it when I get home. Some work will have to be done though, I tried installing it and it keeps crashing. Maybe we can just use the microphone button from it.
Sent from my EVO 4G using XDA App
Someone had uploaded it already somewhere, I think maybe over at the androidforum boards... But it wasn't right on the boards, it was on a Moto Droid downloads page. I remember I saved the link to download it later but before I got the chance they had taken it down and listed it as "expired"... I dunno if the phone shipped with a version that expired shortly thereafter or what, I'd imagine it'd have to be replaced w/an updated version anyway.
I'd love to have this, lack of a voice input button is the only flaw I see in Swype (other than landscape typing, but Swype's just meant for vertical one-hand operation imo)... From what I understand they haven't officially implemented it across all devices because pressing the voice command button in certain text fields within the OS would cause an error, but it can't be that hard to adjust this.
They already do some other context-sensitive adjustments (like no spaces on the URL address bar or a browser).
BUMP. i need it too. i will search and if i find it ill gladly post it. btw, anyone have that x dump so i can check it out?
Just wanna say...me too!

That is so messed up... NFS Shift was demoed with the EVO and was supposed to come out on EVO release day, then EA just said nothing else about it.
Maybe Verizon just showed up at the EA doorstep with a bottle of wine and box of chocolates. I want that game.

ok here is swype for the Droid X, like i said if you try and install right now it doesnt work at all.
Bummer, guess that might be why DroidLife took it down from their download page... Anyone know if the voice command button on the Droid X is present in all text fields or just certain fields? Supposedly that was the holdup for implementing it across the board (hitting voice command in certain fields would cause errors), if they've fixed it for one phone they should've had a beta w/it for the rest of 'em by now! Hrm...
i believe its always there..... i can check tomorrow.
Was anyone ever able to get the Droid X Swype version installed on the EVO?
Maybe once the Epic 4G is release, that version of swype can be ported to the Evo? It is exactly like the Droid X and has the voice button next to the enter key. The resolution on the Epic is the same as the EVO
Nevermind...
Hi All,
I am planning on making an app that unlocks the HDMI capabilities of the Evo. However with limited documentation and secretive programmer's manual for the HDMI chip on the Evo, this is almost impossible.
I tired searching for the register reference or programmer's giude for the SiI9024A HDMI chip but found nothing on the web (they only released it to HTC and other manufacturers). If anybody has these documents and would like to see the Evo with full HDMI, please private message/email me these docs or a link to them.
I will use this thread to update on project's progress, link demos and what not.
This is something I've been wanting to see for a while. I don't have any documentation to offer, but once you get something going, let me know if you need any help testing.
Or you could just wait for cm7; talk of the town is that they may have that feature.

that app for the droid x is a step forward, but by no means ideal lol. The screen on the phone stays in the app and doesn't reflect what the phone and hdmi output is doing?
Sounds like a LOT of hit or miss and frustration for those users lol. Picking the right app/shortcut sounds bad enough let alone typing something

This is because the developer chose to create an app instead of a service.
Here's the action I'm looking for out of an HDMI out utility:
http://androidspin.com/2011/01/06/c...ptima-2x-with-tegra2-chipset-and-gingerbread/
Enjoy!
Hoping for this in CM7, but I'm not holding my breath. Have a pico projector that works with HDMI out in sense roms, but the audio comes out of the speakerphone..! Grr.. And only works in gallery movie player, and maybe youtube. That's it.
:-/
let the people of other forums know about this thread. androidcentral and many other sites. maybe someone throw a key information about the hdmi of the evo
This would be great if you could get full mirroring. Do any of the new htc phones coming out have the same hdmi chip? Maybe you could steal the mirroring drivers from it haha
I don't know if this helps as I have written about it before in another thread but didn't get much results. In the RUU_101107T105508(which boots and will function...but without bootloader screen..you have to remember which key functions make it go into what you are looking for) and the next one RUU_Speedy_Sprint_WWE_1-2.17.651.1_Radio_1.07.00.1129_NV_SPCS_1.52_1103_release_160079_signed and RUU_Supersonic_1.17.651.1(it is the eng-build that you can get when you use the 3 step Simple Root method.....it has HTC utilities that allows you to either select HDMI mirroring or presentation mode. However, the toggle will only let you select presentation mode. If someone knows how to change the default from "false" or to "allow" I am pretty sure it would allow HDMI output. It is a matter of going through all of the files to find the toggle switch to allow it to work. It states it is only for Supersonic and it shows pictures from the Vancouver Google Convference.....so....all of you in the know.....maybe this will help....It has a whole bunch of HTC utilities that only came with the first EVO given out at the Google conference. You can check all types of things.....WiMax included....the same settings that CM is using to make WiMax work now....I just don't think it has/was a top priority and might be an easy fix.....

You have found the one thing Apple trumps Android with! My entire paradigm has just collapsed around my fragile psyche!!
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
I guess I wasn't clear enough. I just used shut down as an example, which would be flawed by a simple battery removal. What I'm actually going for, is to make the popup menu (the one with shut down, airplane mode, silent) not pop up unless the phone is unlocked. I don't want some random person to be able to pick up my phone and put it in airplane mode or silent mode. I know that it is possible, because there is actually a toggle for it in the settings of the miui rom.
Bump bump bump!!!!
Apple trumps Android???? HaHaHa
Never has, and with regard to this thread and the desire for a password protected power button," now (2012) especially.
***HTC EVO 4G LTE***
Can't remove battery... and possibly others?
I believe this app would have to restrict access to the menu that pops up to shut down, as well as override the ten second reboot feature of the EVO LTE.
Needless to say, I have searched a little first for it in the EVO LTE forum among others, but there seems to be a reason to revive this thread now!
Hope I'm not acting like a NOOB as described in the . . *ahem* . . . "Welcome" video...
If anyone read this thread and also needs/needed an answer, please bump it and/or included a link to the thread or page or anything that has a definitive answer.... I know I'm not the only one who would greatly appreciate the help!
:good:? O.K....
The Nexus 4 doesn't have a removable battery and such a feature would be great for a stolen phone.. The only way to shut it off would be to adb into it.
Im also looking for this feature to protect my Nexus 4 if atole.

I know I started this thread a WHILE ago...but especially since a lot of the newer phones have non-removable batteries, this seems like a must. What about some way to disable the popup that appears when longpressing the power button (with airplane mode and stuff on it) from the lockscreen. So, you would only be able to access this after unlocking the phone. This is actually been baked into the MIUI Rom, and I'm wondering why others haven't adopted it. Does anyone know if this feature could be ported? It doesn't seem like it would be that hard.
AGREE 110%
This is a HUGE flaw in the smartphone world. I'm glad my Nexus 4 has no removable battery and I feel all phones from now on should follow. Why make it easier for the thieves? I've tried to find an app or something out their with no luck. I messaged Lookout Mobile Security about this BIG issue and hopefully you guys can request it as well here https://www.lookout.com/help. Just click on Send a Request and then just sign in. Hopefully they can implement this vital feature in their security app. If theirs any smart people out their who can make this feature on their own I applaud you. Your phone will let you know where its at even if its off using Lookout online, but without out the phone screaming (a feature within Lookout that makes your phone emit a really loud sound) it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Either click on the link and let them know you want this feature or create one yourself. It just makes security apps on ANY phone totally useless without this feature.
Completely agree. I submitted a feature request as well. Let me know if you hear anything

Not found yet
I just though about the same thing yesterday & to my surprise there is no such app. This should've been the most easiest thing to make I believe, just a pin to switch off.
Why hasn't no one thought about this??
Just wondering if everyone else running a sense 3 official ROM has this.
When you load up the app drawer from the homescreen has anyone else noticed that there appears to be a thin line/border down each side of the list, which im sure wasnt there in sense 2.1. Is this normal or have i flashed my RAM incorrectly. So just wondering if any of you other guys also have this little border down both sides. If everyone has this, is it means to to be there? Does the sensation also have it (being as it is running sense 3.0)
Also. What happened to the car mode (Car panel) that used to give you the big buttons.
Instead it now has "dock mode" which when you load it looks nothing like the car panel used to. Have they got rid of it?
Hi. I have updated to sense 3.0 from 2.1 OTA. I can confirm that the bars on the sides of the app drawer are meant to be there. It's the new design and I have also seen it present on other peoples desire s' with sense 3.0. As for the car panel, I'm not sure as I've never used that feature because I don't drive.
Hope I helped

The car panel is now included in socations´s premium navigation, not a stand alone app anymore. This is a very very great ****, because you have to pay for premium navi . The problem now is, when you plug in into the original htc car holder, there appears a message you should buy pn and you have no chance to autostart an other car dock app. so i should pay once again for something i just paid, just for using it.
I wrote to htc´s support and said, i dont´s accept this! HTC should send me a fix for this problem or they should give me back the money for the original car holder, or thes should give me a free abonnement for premium navigation. They wrote back, they send this to the HTC developers. it´s not ok so
I hope this is the right place to post this. I have owned and really loved my N7000 for several months now. As an ex-Palm user, the SPen stylus was a huge draw. I began to note, however, that over time the accuracy and the location of the floating pointer of my SPen began to drift. I searched and found many people complaining about this and saw multiple posts of "fixes" to try. I even found a paid app in the marketplace that claims to deal with this. I recalled that on my various Palm devices I occasionally had to re-run the touchscreen calibration routine and began to look for one of these thinking it should be built-in. But I could not find one that actually seemed to help.
After more digging I discovered a technique that seemed to work. Simply changing the SPen's dominant hand setting back and forth from my setting of Left to Right and back to Left again made a big difference. But doing so was inconvenient and really had to be done with some regularity to keep things really perfect. After more searching, I discovered how changing the SPen device's dominant hand (not the actual preference setting but seemingly communicating directly with the device) could be triggered by a script. However, this requires ROOT and some way to launch the script. I tired this and found it worked well.
So I decided to wrap this technique up in a little app - my first real Android app. It also requires ROOT and uses much the same technique as the script. You simply tap the app's icon and the quick change is performed - there is no UI. The app determines your current dominant hand setting from the preference file and then tells the device to switch to the opposite hand and back again. Nothing too big here but it seems to work for me (as well as some others who posted this "fix" idea).
I would think it good for this to be scheduled to run regularly (maybe once every .5 - 1 hour) so one never has to be bothered. But for now I haven't figured out how to do this and my guess is there are free apps available that can run this on a schedule. I was able to find such a program to run the script in this manner.
But I have not tested this on any but my own N7000. Will it work for others? Will it work on US carrier's versions of the Note? Will it work on the Note II or the new tablet that has an SPen? I am not sure and am hoping others out there will try this and let me know their findings and suggestions.
Thanks
EDIT: Please note that I have moved the APK file to the Google Play Store. Here is the link.

Also, I can no report that I have this running on a schedule using the Scheduling function of the excellent SManager app from the marketplace. I have been using that to run the onandroid script automatically to perform nightly backups. It can run executable programs as well as scripts. To run the .apk you use the android activity manager program (/system/bin/am) using the following command line:
/system/bin/am start -n com.whitedavidp.reset.spen/.MainActivity

Thanks, I will look into that. I am so new to this I kept things as simple as possible. A service would seem the right way to handle built-in scheduling. But I would also want to retain the tapping of the app icon so it can be run on command in case the user has set the interval too large and wants to reset things right now.

Feedback on GB or Jelly Bean?
I should have mentioned in my original post that I have tested this only on Stock Touchwiz ICS 4.0.4 using Hydracore 4.3 kernel. It would be helpful to know if this works and does its job well on other platforms. Lacking adequate hardware, I can think of no way to ascertain this except asking others to try and give me feedback. Other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
Thank you for this app! I'm using an SGH-T889 Note II and the app worked perfectly. Ok that's cool I'm glad I could help (even though it's miniscule lol). I can also say now that it's not just my imagination, because it actually does work. This morning I had some time to kill before a meeting so I was doodling it up. After a while I noticed the S Pen accuracy was really starting to slip, so I ran your app again and the difference was amazing! I'm really surprised that Samsung didn't intergrate an app like this, because you'd figure they'd recognize the precision drops over time by now. Anyway I'm definitely glad I found this man and once again I really appreciate your hard work!

hi
this app is a great idea! please update it with schechule... but i still have problems with landscape mode... there it's always off...
a fix for this would be soooo nice!
thx for youre work!
App runs on paranoid Android.
Not sure about tw roms but on cm/pa and aokp roms pointer icon is always slightly towards top left of screen. If phone is rotated, rather than point to the 'new' top left it is still pointing at the volume up button.
To fix landscape we need someone to work out how to convince the input that the screen is 1280 x 800 instead of 800 x 1280, this (I think) means the spen input would need to recalibrate every time your screen rotates eating batteries for breakfast.
Right handed use landscape where bottom of phone moves right (anticlockwise) you can still see it its just off. If you swing bottom of phone left pointer hides behind spen

Thanks for the info and response. Can you please describe: (a) does my app help when in portrait mode? and (b) can you describe how the pointer is off when you are in landscape (which direction and by how much)? and (c) when you return to portrait mode does the pointer seem right?
I have a more complete version offering scheduling and other convenience features coming and will put both on the marketplace once I figure out how to do that.
PS - I think I read somewhere that toggling auto-rotate on/off may help "fix" the S-Pen and I wonder if this will work for you?
Cheers!

Thanks for your info. Good to know that the app doesn't crash on Paranoid. My phone is TW ICS 4.0.4 with Hydracore 4.3 kernel. On my phone I do not see the issue with landscape mode that you and phasA describe. I can say that I really wasn't liking the way auto-rotate was working on my phone (sometimes just too sensitive). So I have installed this app which basically makes me confirm that I want to rotate. Perhaps this has something to do with my I am not seeing this issue?
