Is there a manual for Total Commander? I have searched and come up empty.
I did find two helpful things:
To edit the registry -
Hit the "\" key on the top right and then you will see a folder list.
The first folder is "\\Plugins" - double click
Another folder list will appear with 3 folders named "ftp, LAN and registry" Double click on the folder named "registry"
If can't save a file, click hand holding paper icon and uncheck "read only"
I've never heard of a manual for TC. It was trial & error for me...
Trial and error for me also. Just make sure you back up everything and then go explore.
The newest version has a very good set of help files. Here it is (you'll need to stick a link to it in \windows\help for it to work properly).
Farmer Ted - -you're the best!
THANK YOU
where is the "copy" command/icon?
I just updated Total Commander on my android tablet. I can no longer find the "move" commnand. Does anyone know where it is?

I put a movie on my device (it's in .wmv format) and everytime I try to play it I get this error message:
"%1 is not a valid Win32 application"... what in the hell does that mean?? lol Anyone have any ideas?
You must have installed some application that changed the file associations, and then uninstalled it, but it didn't revert associations to previous ones (as it should do btw). Try going to the movie properties (tap and hold the file, choose properties) in total commander (maybe some other explorers have this feature too), go to associate tab and press the associate button. After a while a window will appear. Make sure that all input fields look like on the attached screenshot.

I installed a new ROM. I tried doing what you said but then I went into the file with Total Commander I only had a "General" tab. I have attached a screen shot of what I see. I noticed (just now) that the file is read only. Would that make a difference or is there somewhere else I could look?
Am having the same issue with any copyright protected media that I synchronize with my Hermes. I recently upgraded to Schaps. Any help would be appreciated.

Try in reg. editor
HKCR/WMVFile/Shell/Open/Command
Tap command, the value should read: wmplayer.exe"%1"
re-enter this value with quotation marks, tap OK on current screen, soft re-set. Follow the below screenshots. If you followed my instructions correctly, problem should be solved!
I'm getting this same error when i try to play .wmv music files. I don't have the reg entries mentioned above - I created the reg entries and still get the error.
Any more ideas?
Has anyone resolved this issue? I too am getting the %1 error on some but not music all files. Looks like WMP can play mp3 files but not wma files. Go figure. Any additional ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hello guys,
I've been searching a lot, yet could not find the answer.
I would like to be able to open either programs (meaning path start/programs) or just a specific folder from softkey or hardware key.
Is there any way to open the specified folder. Do I need to create a shortcut to this folder? I have tried something like /fexplore.exe /My Documents (which works) but I would need to be able to open them not in list view yet as the programs do apear.
Is there any specific command to at least run the programs, where I would just click the specific folder?
Thank you in advance,
tampiss
I guess a workaround would be a similar apporach to your, /fexplore.exe /My Documents (which works).
Find a file manger that will display in icon view, rather than list, or details... then make a shortcut using that.
Any ideas?
Resco Explorer look promising,
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/indepth.asp
Total Commander CE does an Icon View.
Now... does it respond to command line switches, so I can get it to start in a specified folder?
Hi all.
I want to make icons in the program folder for applications that aren't installed on the device, but run off of a memory card. For instance, I run putty from the memory card, as it is a standalone .exe file. It would be easier to go to programs and launch it from there, rather than go to a file explorer, direct it to the memory card, and then click on putty.exe. Just want to save myself some time really. I know it can be done because BackupPIM does it.
Thanks for any advice.
PS I tried searching first, but it was a fairly specific thing and so I couldn't see any results. If you find any, shame me for being a noob, and point me in the right direction.
Thanks!
you go to the exe file that you wan to place in the program menu... then copy it.... then go the program folder and paste it as short cut... I dont know whether this will helps you
Shortcuts are text files with a *.lnk extension that you can place in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. RESCO Explorer can do this for you (Send to Start Menu as Shortcut) or you can do it manually as explained in the WIKI. Hope this helps.

Make sure if you do it by hand you do it plain text
Here is a tutorial.
Thanks guys that worked absolutely perfectly, just copying the file and pasting the shortcut. It's funny to think that you know so much about Windows Mobile, and then realise you don't know something so simple as this!
This will make a huge difference in my day to day life. It may even mean that my partner can now use TomTom (any more than clicking three buttons and she is annoyed, lol). This question and answer section was a great idea by someone, don't know why it didn't happen sooner.
Cheers! Keep up the good work.
Thanks
You guys are REALLY helping us noobs out allot. This worked like a charm.
One day we might have the "smarts" to do the same for others
By the way, I suggest you create a cab (you can use WinCECabManager) to have the *.lnk installed in your device so that everytime you flash a rom or hard reset you can just intall it.. I create a cab for all programs running from the storage card. one cab and i have all the shortcuts i need in my programs menu
Dear nir36
Can you explain that how we can create a cab of shortcuts the programs stored in mem card
Best regards
Get Quickcab 2.0 (hacking forum). It's pretty self explanatory to use, but when you make the cab, make sure in the name field that you name it 'mycabname.cab'. If you don't put in the extension, it doesn't work (at least not for me, lol).
The easiest way to set up the cab is to put quickcab in your c: folder, then inside that folder copy your start menu from your device. Delete all the links in the start menu you don't need, then just send the individual folders with the links into the \windows\start menu\programs directory shown in quickcab. Select 'no uninstall' so the cab doesn't go into the installed programs list. Having the named folders on your pc makes things much faster. You don't have to create the directory for the cab, and everything's organized properly. Do not create an empty folder in the cab file-this will give you an error, and a stupid command window will open, leaving you very disappointed.
I updated my ROM the other day and I re-installed all my software afterwards, but one program (tomtom) didnt get placed in the start menu or in "All Programs" on the Manilla programs tab.
If I manually browse to the exe in the program files folder (on my storage card) it launches and works fine.
How can I create a shortcut in Windows Mobile 6.5 so that it shows up in my Start Menu or in the All Programs area?
I tried exploring the device while hooked up via activesync, and creating a shortcut hat way, but with windows mobile 6.5 it seems that doesnt work, the option to create a shortcut doesn't even come up in the context menu anymore. Same goes for if I browse to the file via the file explorer or total commander on the device.
Use Total Commander or Resco Explorer and create the shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu or \Windows\Start Menu\Programs(\Your Folder)
D'rath
There are two ways I use to make a shortcut in Windows Mobile. The first is to find the original EXE, tap and hold on it, and select "copy". Then, go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\, tap and hold, then "paste as shortcut".
The other, easier way is to install this valuable piece of software, restart file explorer, browse to the EXE, then tap and hold, then finally choose "Send Shortcut to Programs".
Thank you both for the info.
I was able to do it using total commander, which did have a "Create shortcut" option in the ">>>>" option of the menu. I used that and created the shortcut in the programs folder and then it showed up in the start menu and in the touchflo all programs menu.
Allthough this thread is already a few days old i still ought to thank you.
I had exactly the same issue - no TomTom anymore and i couldn't figure it out by myself so got really frustrated. No registry-manipulating worked (didn't understand how to do it right) and no manual shortcut-file creation either...
So i am really happy that you, DaveTheTytnIIGuy pointed out that FileExplorer Extension. Fantastic thing.
And Total Commander is too, actually. But i liked the extension better. Thanks anyways!
Your help is much appreciated.
Do it in File Explorer... that's work. In Total Commander doesn't...
shortcuts to cab files
need to use TC to make shortcuts--the FM ext only supports exe shortcuts.
Mine worked fine on a cooked WM6.5 on my Fuze for the remove/restorehiddenproxy cabs
Worked perfect
Worked perfect, saved me alot of greif thanks
(whew)
im so glad i found this thread. was pullin out my hair trying to figure out where to place the .lnk for garmin to make it show in the programs section.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Same for me! I felt like i had tried everything, and here the solution was staring me in the face (well...inside of a >>>>> folder).
Thanks!
thanx
Just to say thank u all guys, good info
Thank you!
Got my Navigator back on the start menu!

I read through the instructions here on how to increase the allowed tabs in Opera from just the default 2 tabs. Everytime I increase the tabs in the user preferences, I hit save, and reboot the phone.. and voila - back to 2 tabs.
any advice here?
you have to disable push enternet theres a cab for that on here then it will work

I'm on a VZ TP2 as well. I finally got it to work after trying it several times. I have no idea why, but it finally "stuck".

lucky you!
I had the same problem where the changes wouldn't stick after making the changes via the 'config: opera' page. I think there's an opera.ini file that you can edit that'll force the change. May require a restart of your phone once you edit the file.
There is also another way to do it. This is for the Sprint version, but I'm pretty sure it works for all TP2s. To manually do it follow the following instructions:
First get a program like Total Commander so you can edit files in the Windows folder of your phone. Open TC and navigate to Windows > Opera9 > and then locate the file named opera.ini . Rename the name of the file to opera.txt and then use file explorer the open the file.
Navigate towards the end of the document, and there should be some text that says something like "Max Number of Tabs = 2" Change the 2 to a 5 (5 is the max number of tabs) and save the file.
Then go back in TC and rename the file back to opera.ini and reset your phone. Open up Opera and now you can have 5 tabs
