I was poking around my phone, and I saw that my Contacts haven't synced since January 27. There's an icon, and an explanation that says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
Obviously, it's not back shortly seen as it's been almost two months since it's functioned. I kind of had figured there was an issue because some changes that I made didn't make it back to my gmail, but i hadn't looked into it until now.
Has anybody else had a similar issue? Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it?
I've tried my Nandroid back-up, but that doesn't fix anything (which was expected). I'd rather not do a wipe, but I'll do it if I need to. Thoughts?
I have JF-RC33, HardSPL, Apps not on SD (yet)
Update: Reapplied JF update.zip, no improvement.
I searched around, it seems to be a known issue, but with no real solution. The only thing that is known is that it's probably a data issue (corrupted somehow).
Ive experienced the same thing, i think its a google thing.
I had the same problem after switching from the US version to the UK version.
The only way I ever got it to sync again was to reflash the US version again. Might just be a coincidence, though.
I figured it out. I played around with it a lot, and finally figured it out.
The issue comes from some less than robust programming on Google's part. Sync stops working when some data gets modified both in the Gmail Contacts program and the G1, before a sync takes place. From the moment this screw-up occurs, Sync stops working.
The way I fixed it was kind of weird. I actually ran Koush's Facebook Contacts sync. What I think it did was force the update from the Google server's side. I think google wins in the sync battle, so it forced it to my phone, ending the disconnect.
I'll do some more testing when I have time.
Running CM7.1 nightly #165 along with Glitch v12 for some time and it worked really well. Just recently I started having issues with gapps force closing: "The Application Google Services Framework... "
I found a thread on the CM forums that helped: uncheck all google account syncs, reboot, sync each one back individually waiting until one finishes before doing the next one.
This worked really well, but the problem kept cropping up... updating to glitch v13 (from glitch app) seemed to make things work, but it wasn't on a clean install.
I just did a clean install of nightly #165, glitch v12 and updated to glitch v13 before restoring any apps, etc. Everything appeared to work great on home wifi, work on 3G, but when I went to bed and woke up the white bars were back and I was getting the force close issues.
Logically, it seems that this is on google's end. But it doesn't seem like it would last this long. Turning off wifi didn't help. I'm running out of ideas - especially without a root cause.
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339745 which mentions the google calendar causing the problem?
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. The biggest frustration is that when this happens, no other apps seem to work. All force close soon after opening.. even the non-google ones (Angry birds, words with friends, titanium backup, etc).
Thanks!
When I turned on Auto Sync. I get the message, "Sync is currently experiencing problems, it will be back shortly". I can't sync my contacts at all. I also tried Contacts Sync Fix(app), and thay didn't seem to help.
Please any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Same problem here, may be their servers currently unavailable.
Same, getting a error also. Must be the servers then.

I'm not so sure about that. Can you check the date the sync was last successful? My sync date on my Galaxy S3 was a few months old (in Feb I think). I think (at least I) am running into the problem described in http://code.google.com/p/android/is...s Owner Summary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=42641. I tried a few suggestions there like clearing out my contacts data etc. And then I deleted my account and recreated it and the problem is worse now. I don't get a last successful sync date at all anymore. No errors. But no syncing either. I can create new dummy records and it will eventually (a few minutes later sync). And changes I make on the phone will also eventually reflect in the cloud. Meanwhile no problems syncing on my Nexus 10. But if I change a real record (possibly a Google+ account), it never syncs up.

Well I removed my google account yesterday and re added it and now everything syncs up fine. My last sync time was about 5 minutes ago. It syncs constantly throughout the day since I use G+.
I have the same problem. If I clear the contacts data, it'll sync but only once. If I add something on my phone or on the website, the sync won't work again until I re-delete the contacts data again.
I have this for about 3 weeks now. I even reinstalled the ROM, but not helped.
Acer E350 with Android 4.0.3 (with 5 different updates, even with the first version). Everything worked correctly until May 15.
I solve this problem, I think...
Google Account Dashboard -> Account -> Security, I deleted all (mobile) apps*connections to my account, then deleted my Google Apps account on Android and reinstalled it. Now I can access everything again!

I've been having this issue for the past week and can't seem to fix. I've gone to Settings and deleted cache and data, Google contacts will resync and bring the contacts back, but then a short time later, they are gone. I've done this about a hundred times already. I've also gone and deleted duplicate contacts, installed an app to fix broken contacts, all to no avail. I don't know what else to do at this point, very frustrating. I'm having this issue on different roms that I flash.

I am experiencing the same issue once again. I don't know if this is Rom related or anything, but it's driving me nuts!!

I'm a little late to the game here, having recently acquired a One, but this fix worked perfectly for me. So far it's been a few hours and the sync still refreshes without issue. Kudos.
Which settings?

I can't find this settings. Does anyone know where this settings is at? This sync error is heavily draining my battery.
Heya guys,
Just unboxed my N5 and went through the rigmarole of turning it on etc.
For some reason, it didn't want me to log in with my account details before showing me the home screen (not sure why).
So it didn't give me the option of downloading all my apps from my Galaxy Nexus (I know, 2 year old phone).
So, I wanted to test out the vibration on it from a phone call, and instead of mucking about, I thought I'd check out the ADM and lock/ring the device.
To my pleasure the device showed up in the ADM: https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager - but the location wasn't being found.
I have followed the troubleshooting page: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3265955?p=android_device_manager&rd=1#
So I've cleared out the google play services several times, restarted the phone several times - all to no avail.
My galaxy nexus is reporting correctly (when I connect it to a network - I have temporarily disconnected it thinking that it may have caused an issue).
Does anyone have any additional ideas?
Is this a common N5 issue or is everyone else working just fine?

Hi, I have just found out that it is also happening on another phone (LG G2) so I suspect it is do do with google contacts (perhaps the new contacts they have out). I have therefore asked the question in the Android section http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/google-contacts-repeatedly-download-25-t3114949. I wanted to delete this but do not know how. If somebody can, then please do so.
Hi,
I have been searching for a solution to this without luck. I have found others reporting more or less the same problem, but no solutions.
The manifestation of the problem means that I can not add new contacts. If I add one it stays there for a little while (until the next google account sync I suspect). I tried contacts sync fix and it told me there were 25,000 contacts. This, it seems is the limit in Android. However, checing on my google account I only have 902. Given that the limit has been reached I guess it is fair enough that it will not store new contacts.
However, I do not know why it keeps on downloading my contacts (or at least until the limit has been reached). I have reset the phone, but from the "backup and reset' menu in settings and now also from recovery (Cyanogen, the standard one), where I have wiped the cache too. All in vain.
I am not installing any apps at all except those that comes with Cyanogen.
I am running:
Cyanogen 12.0-YNG1TAS17L
Androdi: 5.0.2
Baseband is DI.3.0.c6.00230 and then a long sequence
Kernel is 3.4.67 from April 21
Build is LRX22G
I am 90% sure the problem was not there under CM 11.
Anybody got a solution or suggestions? It seems very strange to me that I am the (almost) only one having this problem
Thanks in advance.
Erik
