I was poking around my phone, and I saw that my Contacts haven't synced since January 27. There's an icon, and an explanation that says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
Obviously, it's not back shortly seen as it's been almost two months since it's functioned. I kind of had figured there was an issue because some changes that I made didn't make it back to my gmail, but i hadn't looked into it until now.
Has anybody else had a similar issue? Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it?
I've tried my Nandroid back-up, but that doesn't fix anything (which was expected). I'd rather not do a wipe, but I'll do it if I need to. Thoughts?
I have JF-RC33, HardSPL, Apps not on SD (yet)
Update: Reapplied JF update.zip, no improvement.
I searched around, it seems to be a known issue, but with no real solution. The only thing that is known is that it's probably a data issue (corrupted somehow).
Ive experienced the same thing, i think its a google thing.
I had the same problem after switching from the US version to the UK version.
The only way I ever got it to sync again was to reflash the US version again. Might just be a coincidence, though.
I figured it out. I played around with it a lot, and finally figured it out.
The issue comes from some less than robust programming on Google's part. Sync stops working when some data gets modified both in the Gmail Contacts program and the G1, before a sync takes place. From the moment this screw-up occurs, Sync stops working.
The way I fixed it was kind of weird. I actually ran Koush's Facebook Contacts sync. What I think it did was force the update from the Google server's side. I think google wins in the sync battle, so it forced it to my phone, ending the disconnect.
I'll do some more testing when I have time.

Hi everyone,
I've got a huge problem with my touch cruise:
A few weeks ago, something happened with my phone and I could no longer access any of the mail features of outlook. I performed a hard reset, switched to a new rom, and now the problem is back!
In M2D, the email accounts disappeared (says "no accounts"); and the text messaging says "no messages. If I clicked on messaging in the start menu, nothing happens.
I can still access all of the other features of outlook - contacts, calendar, and tasks work fine.
When this first happened, I searched around, tried a few things that might have helped, and nothing worked. I performed a hard reset, and installed a new ROM (originally was M-AMINE's final, now is c_shekhar's most recent with footprints included), and things seemed to work fine. Now, just last night, the exact same thing happened as before.
The first time I had installed imappusher a day or 2 before, so I thought that might be the culprit. This time, however, I did not install that software, and the error still happened.
Any thoughts? Potential culprits? Ways to fix it? Ways to prevent it in the future?
Thanks for reading,
-Talbot
weird timing, someone else posted a similar problem right before me, and there's a solution that seems to have worked in there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486297
Snapphane's fix worked for me, or at least it allows me to access the mail part of outlook so far (I have not re- set up the email accounts- it looks like all of my mail has still disappeared).
I went to the storage card with file explorer, and deleted a folder called something like "inbox.msi.233406...", and now all of a sudden I can get into the mail fine.
Thanks snapphane, and lets hope it keeps working!
I just noticed that I hadn't gotten any emails in a while on my N1. So I checked Gmail on my computer and it showed 5 new emails that I hadn't seen. Digging a little deeper, I found that the gmail app on my phone hasn't successfully synced in the last 24 hours and I also can't access any past emails other than those that are already shown in my inbox(it won't load any that aren't already on the phone, gives a "Network Issue" error). What's even more strange is everything else on the phone works perfectly and even the number of new emails is updated in the gmail app, it just won't download the emails themselves. Is anyone else having these problems?
I just checked mine and it is up to date. In fact, I am usually getting a notification of gmail on my N1 before it shows up on gmail web site or indicated by Gtalk.
Hopefully, your issue is temporary and the 'network issue' will go away.
....and fixed. I still have no idea what was going wrong but going into the manage applications settings menu and clearing the data on gmail and gmail storage fixed it. Hopefully this issue doesn't get too widespread, cause no non-tech savvy person would ever be able to figure that out.
Alright, it turns out this is a really big freaking deal(as far as I can test it anyway). Any time I try to attach pictures to an email and send it, it causes this. And there's no way to undo it that I can find other than manually clearing the data in Gmail Storage.
...And from looking at the logcat, It gets a file not found exception when trying to load the attachment. I'm using a fresh picture taken from the camera to test it so this looks like a pretty big bug. I'll poke around a bit more though.
After a bit more testing, this only happens pictures taken from the camera for some reason. Can anyone else confirm that this happens for them too?
Alright, I think I got this(at least partway) figured out. It wasn't all pictures but just a couple specific ones. For some reason, there are some pictures that I took yesterday with my Nexus One that didn't actually get saved anywhere(I'm not sure how it even knows they exist, or where it's finding the image). The image I was trying was one of those, but trying another one that did get saved worked perfectly. So I guess this is less an issue with gmail and more an issue with the camera not always saving pictures correctly. Gmail just completely chokes when you attach a file that doesn't actually exist.
Hmmm...
My gmail hadnt synced for several hours today.
Rebooted..seems ok now.
I did actually send an attachement from a note pad application to myself last night.
No idea what the correlation is if any.
Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but if you are actively logged in to gmail (say, from a desktop) while accessing your gmail on your phone, the results are somewhat wonky and unpredictable.
I've seen this issue on my G1 and it continues on my N1.
I experinced this issue also. The issue seemed to exist across reboots. For some reason I was convinced that the issue had something to do with facebook syncing. I deleted that account and the problem went away. But know that I think about it, I did try emailing a picture that I had just taken right before I noticed the problem(emailed straight from the camera app), and I know that email did not go through. Hmm, definitely sounds like a bug somewhere.

Me too. I noticed same in G1 and now on Nexus while all time logged-in Gmail using Mozilla on desktop while at work. Totally unpredictable many time I see first on desktop and then later (some times way later) on G1 and Nexus.

I've been having sync issues too. I don't really do much with email, mostly receiving and I find myself having to refresh manually, all the time. It has been about 3-4 days or so. It worked perfectly at first...
Here was my problem: check settings and then the sync menu. It says something & sync. My auto sync was unchecked. Working great now!
Been having sync issues, posting in a thread about it over on the google support boards. Not major to me, just annoying and hope it gets resolved.
Thank you so much for the detailed responses about this Marcus. I thought I had messed up gmail with my theme, but then I read this thread and remembered that I had tried to send a picture through gmail immediantly after taking it, and after clearing data for gmail and gmail storage, it worked again.
So again, thank you, that is one less bug I have to deal with my theme causing.
I've had this issue when trying to email "large" (over 2MB'ish, as a rough guess) files.
Dear All,
I do apologize for starting a new thread on this topic (I know others have been berated for doing similar) but I have searched and not found anything that addresses the issue that I am having.
My Gmail app keeps dropping its push email function. Manual refresh works but not push. I can get it working again by clearing the Gmail app data and re-setting up all the Gmail settings (signature, notification, etc.) and all works well. However it only lasts for between a few hours to a couple of days before it stops working again and I have to repeat the process to get it working again.
Sending email, and my wife's Nexus S works fine. I have also just noticed (but not investigated it) but the Calendar does not seem to be automatically syncing either even though auto syncing is enabled.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a cure?
I also noticed similar Gmail sync issue yesterday. I tried all means but not successul till now. Hope someone comes up with a solution.
Oh, yesterday I got this error message couple of times " Google services framework force close or something like that". I rebooted the phone, and that error went away but not sure if that's the reason for my push email not working well.
Did you ever come with a solution to this? I've found it to be quite annoying.
This claims to be a solution: http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...-gmail-app-has-stopped-syncing.html#post94541
It's written as though it's for situations that it started happening pre-empted by adding additional accounts though. I've only got 1 account and it's tending to happen every 2 or 3 days.
I have not found a "solution" - just a work around. What I have found is that when I do a full Google account sync (Settings/Accounts & sync/[Google account]/Menu button/Sync) it forces a sync of my entire Google account but then kicks my push email into life again for a couple of days without needing to wipe my Gmail app data.
I've just got into the habit of doing this every morning when I get into the office. I took a vacation a few weeks ago and forgot to do it for a couple of days and lo-and-behold my emails stopped coming through, so nothing's changed.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Well that's a better workaround than having to clear data all the time at least.
Thanks!
Has anyone found a solution to this one.
I am having the same issue on an HTC Sensation with GMAIL android app. Basically it works for about 2 days and I receive an email exactly as I receive it but then after some days it stops working.
What I normally have to do i switch off all Sync and then switch it on again and it restarts everything but this is not the ideal thing.
I had this problem before. The only way I found to fix it is to remove the google account from the phone and add it again. Also if you disable the Google account from the Account & Sync Settings and enable it again will fix the issue. I didn't have this problem again but not sure if was actualy fixed from the above steps.
Hi
I did what was said in post and now I am getting replies but I am afraid that this will stop after some time....
In the end for me I had to do a factory reset, the little workarounds weren't sticking.
Sometimes when I open the Google Talk app, it begins to open and then apparently crashes and I'm back on my home screen. The only way to fix this is to reboot my phone. But it happens again sometime later and I don't know why. Does anybody else have this issue or know how to fix it?
This was happening to me yesterday... rebooted and it hasn't happened since.
Once we get S-Off, we can upgrade to the new Talk (1.3 I believe) with video chat...
Well good to see that I'm not the only one with the problem. It hasn't happened to me for a few days now. Can't wait for the newest version!
I went to settings -> accounts & sync and synced everything including the Background Data. Seems to work.
I've tried everything I can think of to resolve this, but I need some suggestions.
So - my husband finally got a smartphone, after getting by with a keyboard phone for years. I talked to him about different phones - iPhones even - and after looking at several, he took my advice and got a Droid Maxx. Of course I helped him set it up, etc. Everything went well for a day or two, but then he started getting all sorts of errors - Google sync problems, Google account sign-in problems, "Unfortunately Google play services has stopped" etc. I was able to solve most of the problems by uninstalling updates to Google Play, and a few other things. He was still having some issues, though. The phone occasionally shut itself off. So, I decided to do a factory reset.
Since then, everything is working much better. The phone hasn't shut down at all, etc. However, in the last day or two, he will get an error notification that's something like "Trouble signing in to Google Account". He has to tap the notification and enter his Google password. Then everything seems fine until it happens again sometime later. Now it's happening frequently
He has almost no apps installed. The two or three he has installed are the same ones that I have used forever on my android devices, including on my Droid Maxx and Moto X - so on the same or similar devices. I have checked every setting I can think of. He doesn't have 2-step authorization on his Google account and he never has problems with that account on his desktop, laptop, etc.
Any ideas what could be happening? He does drive through an area with no cell service every day, so that could have something to do with it, but I drive through the same no-service area, and I have never, ever had to sign in to my Google account after initial setup. Sometimes this issue crops up when he has perfectly good service.

i think that's the problem, i had issues the first time i passed by a no service area and the problem showed up ''we have trouble authenticating this account, tap here to solve'' and thats all. it solved with the tap in the notification, and never appeared again, i suspect your rom data its corrupted and i recommend reinstalling the phones firmware 4.2 or 4.4 whatever version is. that should solve the problems.

Thanks for your reply! Can you please explain what "your rom data its corrupted" means?
Also, how do I reinstall the firmware? This phone is not rooted and was updated to 4.4 KitKat OTA.
I'm hoping that it was just the magnet on his pouch case interfering with the radios. He realized that he's always noticed this problem after the phone has been in the case. This afternoon I asked him not to put it in the case as an experiment.
