trying to use htc tilt as a wireless card on windows7 - General Questions and Answers

so i have a bad wireless card in my laptop and i was trying to use my tilt connected via usb to pick up my linksys wireless signal. there wasnt a problem in teh world doing it with xp, i just pluged it in, installed activesync and off i went... but now with win7... lets just say this hasnt been my first attempt... anyone have any ideas or insight on this?

no one has any idea?

Activesync wouldn't have allowed you to do that on XP, only to use the laptops wireless internet on your phone.
Easiest and most reliable way of using your phone as a wifi dongle is WMWifIRouter but it isnt free. There are free alternatives such as ICS Control, but I never got them to work.

Ethernet via USB

Any one know how to get an internet connection working using an ethernet to USB adaptor?
I have one of these:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=217752
& an mini-usb adaptor but, plugging it all together doesn't seem to register anything on the raphael - suggestions welcome?
I'm basically trying to get an internet connection in hotel rooms (travel a lot) where the RJ45 is free but wifi is charged (stupid but common).
Unfortunately no drivers
While Windows XP and Vista are 'Plug and Play', meaning they have a driver for practically every hardware peripheral ever devised, WinMo is not - the device you have will do you no good without a WinMo driver.
instead, I would look into getting a small travel router that would provide you WiFi. It's another thing to carry, I know, but will end up being the least problematic and most direct solution.
Thanks I feared as much - is there such thing as a generic driver for WM6 network devices that could work?
The driver that shipped is labelled ADMTek, but googling I didn't find any drivers for pocket PC or WinCE

Unable to get tethering or internet sharing working on VZW TP2

It's easier if I just post a link to the thread over at smartappsworld so I'm not stuck re-writing it all. http://smartappsworld.com/thread-t...-getting-error-692-hardware-failure-in-modem
I still have not been able to resolve these issues. Tethering worked without problems on my Q9M, but on the TP2 it gives me error 692 -There was a hardware failure in the modem - . Internet sharing isnt cooperating either. New hardware wizard in XP pops up for Generic RNDIS device. When I tried to feed it some drivers for Internet Sharing (pulled by another xda member in another thread here somewhere), XP gives me some bogus error about a missing entry in one of the .inf files that I pointed it towards. It doesnt specify which file, then it closes and there is a big yellow ( ! ) over Internet Sharing device in network devices (Driver not installed).
Thats a quick run through of the issues I'm dealing with. I really need this working as this is my only way to connect my PC to the internet. I live in boonie land where cable is nowhere in my neighborhood and dsl is too far to connect.
Yes I searched. I spent a great deal of time going through xda forums and Google... before I decided to post here. Thanks for anyones help in advance.

I have not had a problem tethering my tp2 with verizon using Win XP Pro x64, or XP home x86.
The way that works for me is:
Run the internet sharing program, Not the VZW access manager crap.
Tell it to connect
After it connects, then plug in usb from pc to phone
The pc recognizes it as another network connection
It gets its IPs and all no problems.
Open up your choice of browser and off you go.
I have never had to install drivers to do any of this, and also it doesnt use active sync when doing it this way.
hope this helps.
I pulled the internet sharing program out of the Windows folder (made a shortcut ). The problem is when I connect to the PC. The install new hardware wizard comes up for Generic RNDIS device. This is after I clicked "Connect" in IS. I have clicked cancel , then it says install failed, your new hardware may not work properly. IS disconnects and Activesync starts syncing. I tried it the first way , letting AS sync once then turning IS on, same problem.
I dont use VZ Access Manager. I was forced to uninstall that and Activesync when suddenly the PC wouldnt recognize anything while the phone was plugged in. After that, the phones internet wouldn't work either so I then had to restore the phone to factory defaults via a hard reset. After resetting, I found that 228 wouldn't program the phone. The next day I nearly took it in to VZW. tried 228 again and it worked finally. Got my phone internet back and I'm back to trying to get IS working. I didn't install VZAM, but I do have the USB driver installed.
Are there certain files that are needed on XP for this? I am still running 32bit XP Pro if that makes any difference. Service packs maybe? I'm up to the point where I'm about to go out and buy a WiFi card and try connecting it that way. Something Has to work here.
The generic RNDIS ( Remote Network Driver Interface Specification ) drivers are part of the ActiveSync install and are needed for TCP/IP between the PC and the phone.
Install ActiveSync.
Plug in the phone.
Don't cancel the New Hardware Found - let it install the drivers.
Set up a sync relationship with the PC if you like - not needed.
When you tell ICS to connect, it should drop any other connection to the PC (Hard Drive, Active Sync) and make the Windows connect sound. Then you should see the network negotiation icon in the System Tray as it sets up the internet sharing.
When I dont cancel New Hardware wizard, it doesn't find any drivers to install. This is if I let it search for drivers automatically, and after Activesync is installed. See what the problem is here? What should normally work, doesn't. Are there key files missing in the copy of Activesync that is included on the CD from VZW? What am I missing here? When I turn Internet sharing on, on the phone, it always says something like ''Check USB cable connection'' and it never changes. The hardware wizard never finds the drivers, and when I try to point it towards driver files, it says theres an entry missing and wont install.
Grr..if you read through the other thread link above, you know how long i have been trying to get it to work. Frustrating!!

I myself use WalkingHotSpots http://www.walkinghotspot.com/. It is 24.99 for a lifetime license and currently they allow you to use the license over and over when you upgrade your phone. I used it first when I had the Touch Pro and now I am using it with my TP2. It is a program that allows me to add up to 5 connections and use my TP2 as a Hotspot. Now of course it would requre you to have your TP2 connected and charging via wall outlet. But basically it will allow me to connect 3G using my WiFi. I just used it Tuesday night while at church to connect back to my business server and resolve some databases issues. My laptop was running at an excellent speed and I was online over 2 hours with no drop connections. The walking hotspot website says that it will not work with Verizon but I can personally say that it does. I do not have the Internet connection software installed on my TP2 so I am going all WiFi for my connection. I added a password and name for my Walking HotSpot so no random joe could just drive by and conect lol and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. They don't offer a free tiral but you can try it for 1 month for 6.99 and if it doesn't work you will not have wasted 25.00. Just choose to use it for a Touch Pro and you should be able to get the download. I have had it over a year now and it has come in very handy especially when I go home to visit Mom as she has no internet and walking hot spots runs my husband's laptop and mine without any issues. So whatever you ultimately do I hope you get it worked out
WMWifiRouter
I use WMWifiRouter on my phone for internet sharing. It works great. This may be an alternative for you.
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
(the site appears to be down at the moment)
I just loaded a program called PdaNet and was really amazed at how easy it was to install. Hooked up on Verizon @ 2.4mbps - actually faster than my DSL!!!
I've only tried it a couple times but I recommend going to here http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php and download a trial version.
WMWiFiRouter
I second the vote for WMWiFiRouter. I used it on my Mogul and now on my TP2 (both with Sprint) -- no issues whatsoever -- more importantly, no tethering fees.
For me now, when i use USB or Bluetooth over ICS, my browser has to go to 3g.vzwdun.com. It didn't use to do that before. How can I keep the device from reporting that I'm tethering...

[Q] Tethering

This question has probably been asked a million times but i couldn't find an answer.
On my HTC Hero (android 2.1), there was an option to tether once you plugged the phone into your computer. This could also be used as a wireless receiver for a desktop computer lacking a wireless access card. I was using this as a last resort after losing dozens of Ethernet cables to vermin under the house. Basically the idea was: connect to your homes wireless router on the phone, then plug the phone into the usb slot of your computer and it would share that wifi connection with your computer. Recently I have switched over to the all powerful HTC HD2 and I am realizing there is no way to do this, that I can tell, with the stock phone. Is there something I'm missing?
I have tried using the Internet Sharing option, as well as the CMInternetSharing.cab I downloaded from you guys, and neither seem to bring this ability to the table. Is there an app out there that can solve this problem?
Ussually a Custom rom will fix this most have the Internet share or WiFi router but you need to HARDSPL your phone. also theres a way for you to do it just deleting your or editing your REGISTRY.
---------------------
Here is the Thread for the roms for your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
and this is the rom I Recomend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
use the Cookie GTX (white theme)
Follow the intructions on how to install it(rom) also onces done click on your Window button>tools>WiFi Router and you can use your phone as a wireless router also if you connected your phone Via usb to your conputer you can connect using internet sharing.
fixed the problem
WMWifiRouter has a wifi to usb mode.
will definitely be buying it after my trial runs out.

[Q] I want to use my Samsung Epic as a wireless mouse need help!!

I'm trying to find an app that works with the Samsung Epic that I can use as a mouse/keyboard for my PC.
I have already downloaded GRemote Pro and Remote Droid but I can't get either to sync with my computer.
I can not get Microsoft Activesync to recongize my phone which I think might be the reason I can not get my phone connected to my computer so the programs acknowledge each other.
ppc tablet
try ppc tablet:
http://www.aacompserv.com/AACompWeb/Modules/PPCTablet/WhatIsIt.aspx
it supports connectivity over wireless and bluetooth PAN, in addition to active sync. It's not freeware, but you can get a trial version to test it.
Edit: On second thought... the epic is android, right?. So my appoligies if that is the case. The above will not work for you.
same here.
I've wasted at least 6hrs of my life trying to get it to work, and the funny thing is I own like 4 wireless mice.

[Q] Can Windows Mobile do Bluetooth tether?

I can't do Wifi at work, but Bluetooth is allowed.
My phone (Motorola Droid Mini XT1030) supports Bluetooth internet sharing, no problem. Tested it and it works.
Only problem is my PC running Windows 8.1 can tether to the phone and use phone's internet, but not the reverse. No way to reverse-tether to the PC via bluetooth that I'm aware of, and I'd like to stay wireless.
Got an idea to use a cheap old phone as a bridge. Reverse tether cheap phone to PC via USB using ReverseTethering app, then use phone's Bluetooth tethering to share that with my XT1030. Well, turns out this is not possible, at least not with Android. Author of the ReverseTethering app confirmed it.
So that got me thinking, how about old Windows Mobile? Used to be you could just plug a WinMo phone into the PC, and it was automatically reverse-tethered. Can an old WinMo phone share that reverse-tethered internet connection to another phone via Bluetooth?
If not, any way to do that with iPhone or Windows Phone 8? I still have my old iPhone 4S and can probably get a WP8 phone pretty cheap.
No idea about WM, but give this a try?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluevpn&hl=en
Thanks, but that's for ICS and below, all my Androids are on KitKat.
