Hi all,
WM newbie here... just bought a Diamond2....
So far I've found the HTC Home UI to be way more useful than HTC Sense - sure Sense has the cool gfx, but to do much on the default Sense front page, one always has to scroll around to different pages -unlike my near-default HTC Home that has my skype, PocketInformant, power/mem/etc indicators, msg-notifier, togglers for BT/Wifi/3G, and myriad of other shortcuts etc... ALL on the one page - its brilliant, though clearly yesterdays technology (ie. its been phased out).
So, I've been hunting around looking for info about ways to customise HTC Sense, via plugins be they already included or separately downloadable, but sofar, I've found nothing. Am i missing something here? Or is this just bleeding-edge stuff that I have to wait for? I can't even see anywhere that one can customise the info shown on the main Sense screen.
Personally, I find Sense's slideable menu thing at the bottom of the screen to be overly cumbersome - I want to click directly (ok, perhaps after 1-2 other clicks) on an icon to load something, not scroll along a list of gfx icons that somewhat forces me to go back and forwards trying to find the icon of interest.
Thoughts?

I had an idea last night that I want to try, but after some cursory poking around I can't see how to do it.
Basically, I want to take a Hero ROM, remove touchflo and replace it with the 'normal' android home, then skin the android home with a darker, hero-ish look. Also, maybe, include the modded launcher I've seen floating around that has 5 icons per row.
The aim here is to have a decent looking rom that keeps the good bits of hero (exchange / social networking integration, darker look, multitouch browser etc) without the memory guzzling touchflo interface. Obviously you wouldn't get the Hero widgets, but I'd rather have speed and stability than eye candy.
Anyway, the older hero roms I tried let you clear the defaults on touchflo and it would then prompt to start home instead when you pressed the home key... I think the orange build (that most hero builds are based off now) must have removed the standard home application because it's not there anymore. Digging through a couple of 'normal' android builds hasn't turned up anything as obvious as a 'home.apk' either... so I'm a bit stuck now.
could one of the rom guru's give me a hint as to where I should start looking?
okay, extracting the 'launcher.apk' from another build and doing 'adb install launcher.apk' fails with 'INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE'
hmm.
Hi everyone
I have my HD2 and i have to say it is superb.
I have looked everywhere and i cannot see any mods to give the HD2 a classic look on the homescreen. i.e remove the program shorcuts from beneath the clock and enable the old program tab along the bottom.
The large screen is so superb and it is a bit too busy and hides the magnificence of a great wallpaper.
also it would be nice if everyone put in one thread all the personalisation mods that work for them from the HD as well as new ones.
I have tried several of them that used to work on my cooked HD roms but now do not on my HD2.
Thinks like tranparent clocks and i would love to have a transparent top taskbar leaving just the icons floating and bottom bar where the menu and phone shorcuts are with out having to install complete theme chager which tweak too many things.
If anyone can help that would be great
go to settings click menu click more than there is a option home screen
there u can ad your classic stuf and dissable htc sence or enable new WM 6.5 home screen. i hope u can find it
grz.
Settings> Today> Items - remove hooks with "HTC Sense"
I think he's asking for a more TouchFLO look, rather than a Sense UI.
I think you're gonna have to wait a while mate. A lot of the customisations that we thought of as normal on the HD simply aren't available yet on the HD2.
I was the same - my HD was modded like mad, but the HD2 is more like it was out of the box. It took a while, but I'm now very used to the Sense UI, and would feel lost without the functionality that I've gained from that extra clutter.
Have a look at the Sense tweaks and mods thread. That has some good stuff in it, but not as much as you're looking for, yet.

Thanks guys for taking the time to reply to me.
Xinyo i couldnt quite follow your instructions
and Soverign 35 that dosent work either.
However JohnC your are exactly right. It is the classic touch flo look that i am looking for. i would love to have the option to remove the program shorcuts from the homescreen and have the program tab back along the bottom and practically everthing transparent on the home screen.
Maybe htc could give us the option of the classic touchflo look or the htc sense look. in the next rom update. in the mean time all tweaks would be welcome
Just want the classic look on the HD2 too
I have two problems that stop me getting what I want which I ran on my TyTn II perfectly well. HTC in their infinite wisdom have removed the SMS entries from messaging and thus from the messaging today screen plugin. Secondly as they have also removed the task bar options I cannot set either get it in the top right hand corner of the screen or set the X button to close apps rather than just minimise them. Any ideas how I can re-enable these please?
I am more than happy to disable the cluttered SenseUI nonsense. Having SenseUI as an option is one thing, having it forced on you as a result of not being able to do things in the standard interface because HTC have removed them is another. The whole point of Windows Mobile is it's customisability and HTC have managed to break this!
I realize there is no such thing as the "best" ROM, so I'll put it this way - what do you recommend as the ROM that most fits these needs:
Phone: Verizon Touch Pro with 6.5 pro
Wants:
- rock solid
- home screen able to show:
time
date
upcoming meetings
missed calls
voicemail yes/no
Number of messages in each mailbox
(Think about the info WinMo 6.1's home screen had, all at one glance)- Some sort of regular list Start menu, several favorites, the rest in "all programs" or a folder - 6.5's honeycomb SUCKS. Icons or words are fine, but the ability to arrange icons by alpha is just common sense, isn't it?
- Would like to keep the Opera that can use the hardware zoom bar.
- can't lose alarm clock (but more than the built in 3 would be welcome)
- can't lose MS Exchange push email.
- Sense/touch flo/Iphone type flick and scroll not needed. Actually would prefer a more exact thing like tabs, scroll bars, buttons.
- The built in Windows media player is fine with me
- The flippy clock on Sense's home screen is a pain in the ass - I don't mind the look but just show the damn current time, don't back up and hour and some to try to impress me with the animated flip forward to the real time.
- LOVE the slide to answer
- Don't care if it looks flashy or slick, just utility. A pretty hammer is fine, but not if it makes it harder to drive nails.
Any one care to share their thoughts?

Hi, I recently updated to the 'official' HTC 2.53 ROM (nothing too adventurous for me yet!). I was a bit disappointed to see the 3D effects in the contacts screen disappear (i.e 'flipping' thru contacts) - I quite enjoyed it. As I understand it, that is part of the 'upgrade' in TF3D from 2 to 2.5?
I've had a look thru the forums and cannot see if there are any addons to reintroduce this?
I've seen the argument in one thread "the 3d effect in the contacts was only eye-candy. the grid layout is much more usable. you can access the contacts way faster. with the 3d layout you would have to flip through them or scroll down on the right list"
Even so, I liked it... any way to get that back?
Cheers
I have been playing around with some of the custom ROM's recently and I am very impressed with the work the dev's have put in. Some really nice ROM's out there. But I have a few questions that don't fit in anywhere else (I think).
Quite a few of the ROM's are based on either AOSP with a custom launcher that closely resemble the AOSP launcher. Why are we not using the AOSP launcher? Is there something I am missing?
Or they're based on Sense, and quite frankly I have a love/hate relationship with it. Mostly it's app drawer / menu. It scrolls in pages instead of rows, has two unneeded buttons on the bottom (recently launched and something else, I can't remember now)
Here's what I would like to see as a combination of the two launchers.
The ICS drawer, but with the Sense list of toggles.
The ICS homescreen with the Sense widgets. (Gotta love that weather widget )
And the ICS app drawer, missing the somewhat redundant widget list (seriously, who wants the clutter? More to the point, do you add widgets so often that the long press, add widget from a list is too time consuming?)
I guess an amalgamation of the two, could it be done?
There also seems to be some inconsistencies with the settings menu, some ROM's have different settings and the HTC one includes settings only seen from HTC (wifi settings like the O/P power) Can these be included in AOSP/ICS builds or is this going to be Sense based only?
And on a final note, can I run Sense based apps like Camera, Music and Settings on an AOSP/ICS build? What HTC apps are likely to screw with an ICS ROM? I guess I want HTC apps on ICS, the UI inconsistencies that are apparent don't bother me that much, but it's a shame HTC seem to be deviating somewhat to the ICS interface guidelines (making the menu item lists huge and not having a 'back' icon in the top left corner on some of their apps).
Could it be that either the community need to work on improving HTC apps, making them more ICS like or is it a case of waiting to see what HTC release?
I know it sounds like I am picking fault and wanting something for nothing, but this is not the case. I just want a fast, snappy ROM that fits perfectly and we are nearly there, just some of the UI elements need work. I want us to raise the bar when it comes to UI design and fluidity, and user input like this is the only way the chef's/dev's know.
I would contribute on this but I have tried decompiling apps before and get lost/stuck with what I should do. I would be completely clueless as to how to integrate HTC widgets with AOSP launcher, but I know some of you guys know exactly what to do.
Just my input on the future of ROM cooking
