Making The Best of My Touch Pro - General Questions and Answers

I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro. I have flashed it with the latest MightROM [6 I believe] I can switch from TouchFlo to Windows 6.5. I have done my share of Googling and looking around the site. To make this short, I just need clarity on what somethings are and how to increase my phone's functionality.
Basically, I saw this theme and immediately thought I want my phone to look this way. However, will it interfere with my ROM, is it a ROM itself? Can a TP run it? I want my phone to be more visually sexy, like the G1 in sense of how it looks.
Oh and is it me or does the battery get drained very quickly on the TP?

its just you the battery on the tp is perfectly fine ! that theme has a version FOR YOUR PHONE lol , why don't you go flash it or ask about it in its thread instead of here.

A New ROM

I've been given a new replacement Wizard, so im back to my old crappy T-mobile ROM (cringes). I have not been on for ages, so i just thought id ask you to recommend me a good new ROM.
Im looking for a largeish pagepool so it will run nice and quick. I have an SD for programs etc . I wouldnt mind some decent software as well, not really bothered about the stupid cube or any of that ****, but HTC Home etc working correctly would be nice. See what you guys think
There are currently many great new roms here, so long as your phone is unlocked and ready to receive the new roms. There are sticky posts at the top that tell you how to tell if, and how to unlock the phones accordingly.
G3 or G4 ??
The latest roms here are working well for the majority of the users - and each offers a little something for everyone, depending on your needs - one may be better than the other.
Slim 6.1 / TNT lastest / KhanX / Octavio 6.3 / Vanilla roms
All great roms, read the posts, see what users are having issues with - and pick the best one for your needs. No easy answer - try them, and use the one that best fits your needs.
Good luck
Looks like they've given me another G3 which is good. I like the the G3 method, allows me to revert back if it ever needs fixing again. Ive been looking at that Slim one, which looks very interesting. TNT is what i had on before, but it sometimes was slow, but that was possibly my fault. If only i could utilize the internal memory and make a bigger pagepool
What would you guys recommend then, based on what im looking for?
Doesnt matter,look at bill_in_mtl his post,just get oneand try,G3 is oke,if you have a G3 device
true it doesnt, but i havnt been here for a while

I think one of the differences between say the TNT and the Slim ROM's is the amount of programs built into them. I have used the Slim ROM and liked it as it has very little included. The TNT has more built in even the offical version has more than I like but that is just me.They all seem to work well. Myself I cooked a very plain 6.0 ROM with theloons kitchen and so far I keep going back to it. Give me a kitchen for the 6.1 ROM and I'm all over it. its right as said that he may release a kitchen for his ROM. That would be great.
Kirby
Im trying the TNT rom. lets see where i get .
Im going to change the pagepool, whats the maximum recommended? is there any sort of size where the performance wont improve?
Cheers
OK, whacked on TNT. running great, but the Home audio manager (which im very used to using lol) comes up with some error "AudioManager.exe" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate....... etc etc. Is there anyway of signing it, because i know its installed properly!

I think the max page pool is 12Mb but could be wrong. Somep;ace in the system is a place to tell it not to worry about trusted certs. Can't rememebr where it is at but a search will turn up the info.
Kirby
working on finding that place. Now ive upped the pp to 12mb, it runs like a charm. and i installed this SRS WOW driver and its a beast. just going to install home then im sorted
Someone said it might not be, and thats its files missing. but that actual software itself works. it just happens to not execute from the front of home!
Okay, i think i want to change already. When you press the power button, the audio goes off as well that was one of the best features of the old TNT rom. Looks like its time for a change

Just go back to TNT's latest 6.0 ROM it is real nice.
Slim 6.1
By Merlin Reloaded
Super fast and super stable and not loaded up with ANY bull****. That means you can add all the bull**** your self.
I tried TNT 6.1 Rom and even with a huge pagepool it ran slower. I noticed that 6.1 roms run better with a smaller PagePool.
I tried OCtavio's rom but I think it had some annoyances I couldn't live with.
TNT is best in Batery,
Octavio's rom was very good..
But so far my favorite is Merlins 6.1 It has a medium drain on the battery so I bring My charger if I plan to surf the web at starbucks. other than that it will last over a day with normal use. (like 1hr conversation and about 50 text; google downloading mail; and so on. also WiFi G enabled.
ahh, i migth put the slim one on just to try it. but id rather not have it drain battery. for some reason the sound has gone dead on my phone. ive read somewhere its a glitch (ive got that one i posted in below). how do you get the sound back ?

Sounds good. Ill bang it on tonight. Im using one thats real nice, but its just a bit too clustered, if you get what i mean. Theres applications everywhere and its totally unsorted. seems very badly done, but actually it runs great. I wouldnt mind SRS WOW as well and I know TNT has it, so i shall experiment. Does the audio manager boot from HTC Home etc? And does it allow me to turn the screen of when listening to music ?

Fuze Complaints & Gripes Go Here & Only Here

I was super excited to hear that the Fuze was coming out for AT&T since I have been waiting for the TouchPro for a long time. Finally my local AT&T store got a couple in stock so I went to go take it for a test drive after reading/watching all the reviews I could find.
I'm thoroughly disappointed. I am trying to upgrade from my 8125 and i was thinking that it would be a major improvement. The Fuze is slower than my 8125, how is this possible? Is touchflow3D the new vista? The only thing that even keeps me remotely interested is the video out capability.
I'm not sure if I should be mad at HTC since they only make the hardware or microsoft since they make the bulky and outdated windows mobile software. Now I have to wait another year to see what hits the market. I'm a big fan of HTC and WinMo but I think someone needs to step it up a bit. IPhone isn't that big of a threat but after playing with the Android OS on the G1 I can definitely say that it is worthy to be called a next-gen OS.
Throw the Android OS on the Fuze and then we can call it a day.
I think it is our fault for constantly spending $500 on phones that provide inferior performance. Ok the rant and rave is over
Mod Edit: Combined about 10 threads with various minor complaints about the fuze, please try to keep general complaint type comments to this thread.
I had issues that day I bought my Fuze. I was really worried that it was a dog as it was slow and using the screen was spotty. The two things I did to change my mind were to use my finger tip instead of finger nail to navigate the screen and intall the TF3D Configuration tool and apply the speed tweaks. After that it runs like lighting... I upgraded from the 8525...
turn off TF3d and re-evaluate the speed.
is the slowness TF or WM
While not as snappy as my Tilt, I don't think its the TF3D app. I can turn it off and use it like a normal mobile device. I noticed finger swipes works better than my Tilt.
People need to remember this is NOT an Iphone or a G1. Those use a different screen technology. Perfect for fingers, really bad for accuracy. Just remember on a winMobile device, swiping with a bit a pressure will work fine. If you want accuracy like clicking on a small box or drawing something (Lets seee iphone or G1) freehand, use the stylus.
Fuze bonus over that of the Tilt: Hi-Resolution screen, more keys on the keyboard, camera light, other things too, but thats the main thing. I liked.
And the G1 ain't all its cracked up to be. My friend has it. He's not happy. He moved from a BB though. Doesn't even have a IM client yet that works full time.
Man, my Fuse (with the TF3D running) is at worst just as fast as my 8525

I agree. Its MUCH, MUCH faster than my Tilt was after I flashed NotATreoFan's ROM. He basically made a clean version of the stock ATT ROM.
The stock ROM is crap and is bloated and runs slow and lags.
I also made some changes in the AdvancedConfig tool. I changed the finger pressure and sensitivity to Normal instead of the defaults.

This!
Flash your Fuze
I was on the fence about flashing my Fuze... but finally put ROMeOS 1.40 and, like everyone else has said, its night and day.
Just curious what what you're doing that the 8125 could perform better?
sure it is slow. thanks to AT&T bloatware.
I have not flashed a new ROM yet, but just by getting rid of the bloatware and doing the TF3D performance tweaks, the HSPDA tweak, the remapping the PTT button, and i am a happy camper already.
I love the size and the screen resolution. The touch screen TF3D is a huge improvement on my Tilt's Manilla 2D. And once you get stuff like Gyrator 2 on it (to use the G-sensor in ANY app, not just Opera and HTC Album), it really blows my old phone away.
Slowness, GPS lags, network restrictions, bloatware are all easily fixable - well, thats why we love XDA-Devs
the phone is only as good as the user makes it. Try tweaking it and you'll love it like the rest of us~
And trust me, you don't want android YET, so many bugs and flaws with that OS right now. Get yourself a g1 and you'll see why.
Good luck playing with your fuze!
My TF feels kinda fast, no lag whatsoever.
Stock ROM, nothing tampered with except Diamond Background Changer...
I did do a hard reset after the first 4 hours with the phone though, just to avoid any problems (saw it on the Sprint TP forums).

XDA to the rescue as always
Thanks for all your comments and I see and appreciate your respective arguments.
baboola - this is very true that we are here because we unhappy with the out-of-the-box performance of our phones
kcchen - 8125 is running touchflo 2d and runs like a champ compared to Fuze with touchflo 3d. I'm guessing this would be the same on the 8525 and 9525 (Tilt)
everyone - thanks for making XDA an awesome expeirience
I guess as usual flashing is the only way to make the necessary improvement. I wasn't really thinking about the AT&T bloatware.

Good luck! Do the HardSPL and get one of the page pool optimized ROMs. I use the ROMeOS 1.40 which is a dramatic performance improvement... Kevlar-Source has a repository of other ROMs with the page pool hex set to 0. Do a search in the Rapheal ROM development to find Kevlar's repository.
Good luck!
Bloatware...I don't get all your complaints!
It's not like all that crap is hogging RAM. So what's the difference between whacking it and going through the steps to make everything work again - and just leaving it alone?
I use my Fuze with a custom ROM. Faster than the Tilt or the 8125 I had before. I had the ATT ROM for 2 days until I just had too many issues. The customer ROM is much better. Still some minor issues but nothing major.
Still not sure if I like the design of the up/down/left/right. Half the time I press right, I hit the back button.
Think I'm gonna return my Fuze
I've been playing with it since the day before launch, haven't done any custom ROM's so it's all stock...but I don't like it. I mean it's sexy--I love the device itself--but AT&T's software eats it *bad*. At times it feels slower than my Wizard running 6.1, and it's way, way, WAY less stable. The thing is locking up constantly...it's just a pain in the ass.
So I guess that's it. Anyone else disappointed in the software load they've given or had stability problems with the device?
I had a lot of lag with it, but every since my friend flashed it and had all the AT&T stuff taken out, it's been running faster and its pretty stable.
I've been thinking of doing that as well, I am just a bit torn because I'm not sure the ROM development is really mature yet for this particular phone. Also I tend to think this one might be having hardware issues given how much it locks up. Maybe I'll just have them exchange it for another one.

just a question

what does it mean when they overclock ur phone also does any1 have the cab or zip to the spinny cube really want that
Okay. The first question is a good one. To overclock means to speed up your processor. The only phones this really works for is those with the 200mhz processors. If you have a newer generation phone you probably don't need it. Also it can burn your phone out.
-----
Your second question sucks. If you want the spinning cube thing than use the search button. Also read up. How is someone suppose to answer your questions when we have no idea what phone and rom you are using. This isn't the AppStore. This is a developers site so you need to actually do something for yourself over here.
Aside from the fact that the spinny cubey thing is last weeks mail. You need to get with the program a little. Manila 2D, TouchFlo 3D, Point UI, Throttle launcher, Spb Shell UI.
It is like buying a Ferarri and asking, " where can I find a nice shade of brown for this thing "
thx 4 ur feedback i have a tmobile wing stock rom
Okay. Go to the wing forum, check out how to sim/cid unlock your device, look around for some nice custom roms using windows 6.1.
-----
If you want the cube you need touchflo in whatever rom you choose. There are newer interfaces around that are more prevalent as noted before.
-----
Once you find the rom you want, sim/cid unlock your phone, flash the new rom you chose and enjoy your phone.
-----
Remember you are doing this because you choose to and no one but you is to blame if you brick your phone. You should be fine if you follow directions well.
Peace

Verizon Touch Pro 2 WM6.5 out!

http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=128&cid=1&mid=356&carrier=Verizon
At least I hope so. I'm downloading it now.
Careful
HTC hasn't posted/released the WM6.5 upgrade for the Verizon TP2.
Verizon hasn't posted/released the WM6.5 upgrade for the Verizon TP2.
Therefore, I'd be careful of a supposed leaked "Official" ROM.
It's not leaked. PCD is the company being used to distro updates for phones. Someone has just flashed over at PPC and I think I am going to give it a shot too in a few minutes.
This is from the upgrade procedure that is included in the download zip.
The upgrade performs the following improvements:
1) OS Upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5
2) Updated drivers to support Global VZ Navigator.
3) TouchFLO 3D Enhancements.
Congratulations! You have successfully upgraded your XV6875!
so what are the advantages of flashing this from mighty rom currently? Also the advantage in the radio?
Going to install soon!
This looks like the real deal. wmexperts is also reporting the same with links to the pcdphones site listed above. I have to wait to download but I am totally stoked it came out !!!!!
http://www.wmexperts.com/verizon-touch-pro-2-also-gets-official-windows-mobile-65-upgrade
This update has...
Window 6.5 Pro
CD: 5.2.21874 Build: 21874.5.0.83
Rom: 3.04.605.3
Date: 11/17/09
Radio: 2.23.00WV
PRL: 65072
PRI: 1.94_002
I get this info from PPC, and I think MightyMike extracted the radio already, not sure
I have been putting attention to all TP2 win6.5 updates since Im waiting for my sprint update, Im the type of person that prefer stock roms instead of cooked roms , sorry chefs, nothing personal
That took long enough... Surely there has to be more changes? wmexperts is reporting it also has Sense 2.1
To me it seems like a bit of an epic... Yippee... That's about it... Doesn't seem to do anything major to the phone - at least nothing compared to some of the cooks around here!
Sense is nice, and it's great that the 'my location' feature is active, but overall...
Not that impressed...

Many people confirmed that has Sense 2.1
I want to hear more feedback on this before I download.
I am downloading it right now and will flash as soon as its done and will report back with info about the rom soon.
EDIT: Manila 2.1
Problem fixed for 1X areas. No more error pops up.
Other than that i am looking forward for custom roms to be cooked with the new information from this rom for verizon users
I have already flashed the new stock rom, and I have also dumped it into a kitchen so that I can get rid of some of the crap ware. The stock version eats alot of memory. I got up to 75% in just a couple of minutes, and I was just going through the menus and seeing all that was installed.
It's just manilla 2.1 with colored icons on the slider and weather clock. Every thing else is pretty much the same as the custom 6.5 roms every one has been flashing as far as windows is concerned. At least its an approved verizon rom and now I can strip it and make my own version. This is what I have been waiting for. To bad there is not much eye candy with it.
It is a memory hog, but they have fixed the Bluetooth issue where you cannot hangup. Also, the incoming MMS images are full screen instead of small. And of course, the new radio.
i like it. did it last night. took about 4 minutes. it seems to be about the same speed as the 6.1 it shipped with. bluetooth works better. faster pairing with headset. will try to see if hangup works now. (dont have headset with me so i will test when home) i like the weather on home screen. nice upgrade. id recommend it.
I thought it was a good upgrade too.
The weather is nice. Finally I get to use the lock screen which I love. All cabs that gave you back memory seem to work. The camera with al the modes work too and some other stuff. This is a real treat for me since originally I didn't plan on getting the TP2 and then seeing 6.1 made me kind of sad (minus touch flow 3d). So yeah not only does it feel like a new phone but a new os too. I will definetly be able to make the wait for awesome Windows Mobile 7 phone (albiet full price).
Anybody getting an e-mail notice of "1" even though you have no un-read mail pending?
No I didn't get that. I would check every folder you have (could be in draft or something).
I noticed the all settings button didn't work. But I know now its Wktask which I love. But for some reason it is effecting me from going to settings. So I had to uninstall it. Now if I have this problem again its a bug and not WKtask's fault.

[Q] Is This Best Forum For A Memory Question?

I just got a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2. I know, I'm late to the party.
Have a memory question: Using Task Manager - Viewing Processes I see Device.exe is/was using over 12 MB of memory. I did a soft reset and then Device.exe shows 8.85. What kind of foolishness is going on and can anything be done to prevent squandering of precious memory?
Also when I added up all the memory in processes there is a difference of about 45 MB between what the memory adds up to in processes and what Task Manager shows in Program Memory. Who stole the 45 MB?
Using Windows 6.5 with HTC Sense 2.5 and CHT(Cookies Home Tab) 1.85 which is the best theme I've ever used. Also Duttys Task Manager is a cab I couldn't do without.
I chose CHT over SPB Mobile Shell although I do miss a couple of the SPB widgets.
I had thought of an answer for you but my memory isn't what it used to be.
But seriously, try a rom without 2.5 and CHT and you'll be surprised how much memory you have. I suggest using a rom with Sense 2.1 or Rhodium Manila.
Mr. horndoctor: Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't/can't flash. Tried..failed..gave up.
By the way, did you belong to the HTC Touch forum? I think there was a horndoctor that was there.

Yep, that's me!
I suggest flashing back to the Sprint 6.1 shipped rom. I personally use it. Even though it doesn't have all the eye candy that other roms have it is stable and works great. You don't have to be unlocked to flash it just download it to your pc, sync with your device and click on the exe to flash it. In my opinion, there are a lot of problems with the Sprint shipped 6.5 rom.
Thanks for the insight.
Could you elaborate about what you think are some of the issues?
I've had a few Touch Pro 2's and the first 2 locked up a lot but the one I have now hasn't locked up yet (about a week).
Other then that no real problems.
I wanted the 6.1 memory manager and I got that. I went back and forth between SPB Mobile Shell and HTC Sense but with the Cookie Home Tab theme I really am very pleased with it now. I would like to have the birthday/anniversary widget that is build into MS because it is so fast but I have settled for ManilaBirthday.cab.
If you know of a similar program to ManilaBirthday but is fast I'd like to try it.
If you haven't checked out CHT you really should. Nicest most powerful theme I've ever seen and so far very stable.
By the way I read a lot of your posts from the Touch Forum and got a lot of help from you. Thanks for that too.

You're very welcome! It makes me feel good that my efforts might have helped you in any way.
The Sprint 6.5 shipped TP2 rom is based on an early build of 6.5 with Sense 2.5 that has proved to be buggy and very ram hungry. I just don't recommend it but if you are running fine on it then just go with it. You can always flash later to a different rom.
Good Luck!
