Orbit2 - the on/off button at the top is non responsive . It means when my backlight turns off I have to reset the device to use it again. I have disabled the backlight timeout for now,but it is an extra drain on the battery and im worried if the device turns off I will not be able to turn it on again. Any solutions ?
Is this an problem anymore?
Got the same now, an opened the device.
The button is mountet at 4 points, at mine 2 are brocken => no contact, no function...
After being quoted 100quid to fix it, I changed the settings so any button will take the device out of sleep mode. It is not fixed but this way works ok .

I have the same problem but can't find the setting that will allow me to un-sleep my phone with any button.
I use rom: 3LIT3_VIII_Full NLD
I think that these setting has been disabled in the rom.
Is there a register setting?
thanks
I do not know anything about roms.
You can turn off sleep mode in the battery saver I think. But means your battery gets used more quickly . The other way I tried was in the settings where any button will turn off sleep mode. This way was better.
Same problem! Although me being the idiot that I am have just dropped the battery and have no way of turning it back on. Any ideas?? Anyone?
Just plug your charger in press the camera and reset then you should get the spl screen then press the reset to boot into windows. This will only work if you are getting power ie from your charger or usb.

Is your phone led lighting up when plugged in ? If not could be usb not working,if it is could be your camera button knackered to so can't get to the spl screen.
Then plug your phone in then do a hard reset except dont press the send button then you should boot into windows without loosing any data.

I have noticed that turning off the screen (either via an app or by a brief press of the power button) also kills any Wifi connections that are active. Is there any way around this? Thanks.
Pressing the power button put the device to sleep/standby/suspend mode. Its not just Wifi, even the Bluetooth, GPS and everything but the phone part goes 'off' to save power. But why do you need WiFi to be active when in StandBy mode?
Regards,
Carty..
are you sure that you are toggling the screen and not turning off the device compleatly?
all pda's i've had turn off when i press the powerbutton
but there are programs which toggle the screen and dont stop my
music from playing

Because I have VoIP set up and if the phone goes in to standby, it will still accept incoming normal calls, but not VoIP calls.

It's not powering the device off completely, a longer push of the power button is needed for that.
But, I had a setting in "Power" enabled, which would "Turn off the device" if it wasn't used for a period of time, and this was also killing Wifi when it was triggered.
Audio manager for ppc has resolved this problem. As far as i know its the only one that doesn't stop even if you press the power button. it keeps playing in background. Maybe someone can understand how they did it and post it. I also want my wifi no to be turned off when i press the power button since it doesn't reconnect to my access point. i have to do it manually
Regards
theres a way to turn off the screen, alot of the roms here have it in the shortcut folder.... and it doesnt kill stop anything like wifi bluetooth or WMP....
Since you know it why don't you mention it

I myself won't be leaving Wifi turned on now. I did some tests re battery life and found battery drain was just too severe if Wifi was left on permanently.

is there any cab to keep WIFI alive even tho the power button is get pressed ?
Hi all!
I have a big problem! My device turned on safe mode, and i can't turn it off. The volume rocker doesn't work since it is in safe mode and I can't get into recovery. Any app from the market doesn't work either. How can I turn safe mode off?
Thanks for the replys in advance!
Problem solved itself! Here is what happend: the phone were just lying on the table for a day with the battery removed. Then I put the battery back in, turned on the phone, and the safe mode was gone. The volume rocker works again.
If anyone will have this issue in the future, try remove the battery and leve the phone for a while. Maybe it works, but it might be just my luck!

The HTC Chacha of my nephew was in safe mode since yesterday. I've found infos on youtube or the official htc website, but none worked.
The walkthrough was : boot the phone holding the power button and :
- the "Menu" button => KO
- the "Volume Down" button => KO
- the "Talk" button => OK !!!
The system was an Android 2.3.3.
hi
is it possible for the galaxy s3 powre button to stop working? i used a aftermarket battery not sure if it play any part in the dead power button. but want to tell you that too. the power button seem dead to me or something is wrong with it, i take out the battery and put it back and the phone vibrate and a quick flash of the word "samsung" and stay fully dead. it turn on by itself when i insert the battery without pressing the power button. i can do that many times and sometime the phone work and it get to the home screen and all buttons work except for the power button. no matter how hard i press it it wont turn off the screen or anything. anytime i got lucky and it boot to home screen, i plugged in the charger so that way everytime the screen shut off i can turn it back on by unplugging the charger, and that turn it back on... otherwise i cannot turn it back on with the power button...
anyone solved a problem like this power button issue? what could be wrong? i know the phone is not dead ,, so could the powwer button issue trigger multiple issues for the phone?

if you can get it to turn on u can use a app to wake it up by sensor.
Could be related to the 3rd party battery but hard to tell without checking out the internals to see if anything on the PBA got fried.
If you're able to get it to turn on with an app and not able to unlock the screen without use of the charger it may just be somethin to do with your power button itself.
Did anything happen around the time of the issue starting? (New apps, physical or liquid damage, software updates, etc)
Have you tried a known working OEM battery?

Hi guys
I have a problem - my vol+/- buttons are working just fine but I have problems with power button. It isn't working.
I tried to figure out a way to turn my phone on when battery dies and I found a way - I just need to wait for alarm clock The problem is that I have to wait till my morning alarm rings. Is it any way to turn phone on? ADB and fastboot don't work. Phone can be easily charged.
Thanks for help

Two options:
1) get the button repaired
2) never turn the device off, charge when needed, get an external rechargeable battery booster to make sure your battery doesn't die when you can't get to a car or wall charger, use adb or some other app/mod that has a reboot menu to boot your various modes to restart the device when needed and find another way to wake the screen such as "double tap to wake/sleep" or find a mod that let's you use the volume buttons to wake the device or even "shake to wake/sleep".
If you do this right and make sure you boot from mode to mode correctly and be prepared to keep a way to keep the battery charged under any condition, you'll never need the power button again.

First of all I appreciate any and all help on this matter. My problem is simple yet the solution escapes me. My phone starts up fine works fine and there are no problems....until I wake it up from sleep. The phone itself comes on and I can tell that the screen wakes up, but there's no blacklight, just a very dark home screen. So far the only annoying thing i have to do is reset it and it works fine again....until it goes back to sleep. I guess my question is, is this an issue that can be resolved (software). Or is it unfixable without screen replacement (hardware).
You need to test a few things beforehand.
Does it only produce this issue if the screen times out, or by manually pressing the power key to turn the screen off, or both?
Does the screen appear dim when you wake it up via the power button, hard pressing the home button to wake, or using your fingerprint scanner to turn on and unlock your device or a combination of those listed?
I would try safe mode.
You can boot into safe mode by following the below instructions:
1. Power off your device in question
2. Press and hold the power button to turn on the phone
3. When the Samsung logo disappears, release the power key and press and hold the volume down key
4. Continue holding the volume down key until the phone has finished restarting
5. You should now be in safe mode and can verify by looking in the bottom left of the screen for text that states you're in safe mode
After you have successfully booted into safe mode you need to allow your screen to turn off manually, automatically, or both(whichever results in a dim screen when normally booted up) when testing the below steps.
Turn your screen on via the power button and see if the issue remains.
Turn your screen on via the hard press to wake home button (not sure if this is available from safe mode, but worth a try) and see if the issue remains.
Turn your screen on via the fingerprint sensor (not sure if this works from safe mode either) and see if the issue remains.
If all successfully turn on the screen with normal brightness then I would say it's more than likely NOT a hardware issue. If one or the other does not produce normal screen brightness then it's more than likely hardware. If all result in a dim screen then it could be either hardware or corrupt software.

The problem is reproduced irregardless of the method used to put the phone to sleep. I will give it a try in safe mode tonight. I also wanted to add that randomly the screen will power on normally but never on the first wake attempt.

It still reproduces the problem in safe mode. i tried to wake it with the power button, home buttonand the fingerprint sensor... also under forced sleep mode and letting it time out itself.

At this point, it's more than likely hardware but because it's intermittent you could try using Odin to flash firmware. I would advise you to look to the appropriate forum for instructions. And as always, if you have the ability then backup the data you wish to keep, do it prior to flashing the software.

Well I figured it out. there was damage to the sensor that determines how light or dark it is. If I cover the top part of the screen with my finger then wake the device, it comes on every time. I hope this helps other people out in the future.

Try this then:
Under display settings turn off "Block accidental touches"
See if that results in not having to block your sensor every time.
**Edit**
By the way, glad you figured it out.
