TouchFlo3D - Spare 'programs locations' that can't be used. - General Questions and Answers

Does anyone else have locations on the programs tab that have the plus sign in the middle so that you can select a shortcut to go there, but won't actually 'stick' there?
Each time I try to use one to create a short cut, I get another 'spare' one appear so that instead of 18 locations (3 accross x 6 down), I now have 22, the last four being unusable (3 in a row and 1 on the next row).
It's annoying, but has no other impact.
Any ideas?

No Drag Select in WM6 and Multiple Dropdown menu?

Hello.
Coming from using Wm2003 I remember that on File Explorer, you could press down and then drag across the screen to select files. On my device (Its a generic PDA) that I purchased it is running WM6.1. On file explorer you cannot press down and drag to select multiple Items. Sure there is other ways but I really liked it how on wm2003 you can pressdown and then drag the stylus across the screen to select multiple items.
Does anybody know of any registry tweaks that can be used or settings that can enable this?
I have tried Resco file explorer but that doesn't have that feature either, instead you have to go to multiple file select mode which itself is rather time consuming compared to dragging to select.
The second question. I really liked it how WM2003 had separate dropdown menus' at the bottom. But on Windows Mobile 5/6 there is only ever 1 or 2 dropdown menus down the bottom. Most of the times one of them is "MENU" and you have to select that to get a dropdown menu to access all the other dropdwon menu's, In wm2003 they would be all visible separately.
Is there any tweaks to change this?
I am using WM6.1 01.001.1
ROM DATE 12/3/2009
Thankyou.
File explorer: It works fine on my WM6.1. If you have HTC device with TouchFLO scrolling, you have to press and hold for a short time and then drag (just before the tap-hold dots start appearing). BTW I recommend using Total Commander, because there are more ways how to select multiple items - by hold and drag or by pressing the ctrl button on toolbar and then just tap what you want to select.
It's not a HTC Device but a generic device out of china running a 6.1 ROM. If I hold on the Item it just right clicks it and brings the dropdown menu up.
I'm not sure if I have touchflo or not, something tells me I do as the touch behaviour is different to other PPC's i've used.
Let me explain. It acts like a Piece of paper. On any program that has a scrollbar, if I put the stylus in the middle of the screen, then drag stylus upward, the contents from the bottom of the page begins to show (Exactly if you have a long piece of paper and you put your finger down on it and push it upward) Here is a Video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxqYLX2X7iE
So as we see above when i drag stylus across the items it doesnt select them all, it just scrolls up and down!
Maybe there was different versions of file manager and some dont support dragging to select multiple items?
This is very difficult for me to describe, but every finger-scrolling software I've ever tried was some kind of "layer" on the screen. If you drag, the gesture is recognized by the "layer" and scroll is performed. If you tap and hold for very short while, the input is sent under the layer to the active program. So if you tap and hold for a while until the item is selected (highlighted) and then quickly drag, you should be able to select more items. But don't hold for too long time as it brings the dropdown menu.
I don't know if I'm clear enough, so I'll describe what happens when you tap and hold.
1. Scrolling software handles input and checks if you are dragging.
2. If you're not dragging and the drag-checking timeout has expired (usually something about 200ms), the input is sent to active program (file explorer).
3. So we've got the input in file explorer, the item under stylus should highlight.
4. This is the moment we should start dragging to select more items, because the dots signalizing you're opening dropdown menu start appearing and if you don't start dragging until all dots appear, the dropdown menu shows.
So it means you can do multiple actions with tap/hold/drag according to how long you hold the stylus down. If you just drag, it scrolls. If you hold for very short while (about 200ms) and drag, it should select more items. If you hold for longer while, it brings the menu.
EDIT: I'd like to show you, but I don't have any camera, only on my device
I tried your suggestion, does not work.
The dots begin appearing then i quickly goto drag, then the screen just scrolls up/down the items and dropdown doesnt appear, but no selected items, it doesnt select them just scrolls up/down the window
Strange, because this is how WM6.5 behave, not WM6.1. I'm sorry, but I think I cannot help you
Thanks for the help anyway.
It's weird, also when i drag across the screen then it begins scrolling, if I quickly take the stylus of the screen it will scroll for just a bit more then gradually slow down, like some sort of scrolling type interface.
Does anybody know what this could be?
Whether it's something that some WM6.1 Versions had? or whether it's something that Somebody has added onto this ROM? Is the UI action defined in any file that I can just change on the Windows folder with another file? Anyway to get rid of it?
Thanks.
I think you should just try another ROM as it seems to be somehow hardcoded in this one.
Problem is I'm not using one of the devices listed in the xda-developers site, it's a generic phone.
So there isn't any roms for it right?
I don't even know how to put it into diagnostic mode (to flash)

It's possible in the Details view, there you can drag on the left side to select multiple files.
Livven: That's true I forgot it, that's one of main things I'm not using Resco Explorer - I hated that sometimes it scrolls and sometimes it selects items (usually when I use device with my left hand) Anyway, I still recommend Total Commander because of its ctrl button and virtual 2 windowed mode - best comfort for manipulating with files
You can change it to Big Icons view, then it'll always scroll. I did the same.

[Q] got any pro tips for selecting text?

I find selecting and copying text very difficult.
For example, from calendar. Which by the way I have to "edit" because you can't dial a phone number from a calendar. ( Seriously google are you just kidding around with that by the way? )
Mainly the selecting part.
I find this impossible to do easily, takes multiple tries because of not getting the cursor positions right, and I don't think it's just me.
Here is my workflow. Can anyone see what I am doing wrong?
1. First, the keyboard takes up half the screen so now I'm left with only about 5 lines of text so I have to scroll around the meeting text entry to field to find the text I want to select. ( If I hide the keyboard with downswipe or other method it does not come back! )
2. When you find the text you want say a phone number 1-752-555-5234 I try to touch immediately before the 1, but as soon as I touch the screen, the entire field scrolls to the bottom.
3. Now I have to repeat step 1
4. I seem to have to do steps 1 to 3 twice for some reason (not kidding) it does not seem to give me the vertical cursor hairline (calling it a hairs width thickness is being generous ) the first time.
5. Now, I will have the cursor correctly at 1. Because if I am one digit off, I have to repeat steps 1 through 4 until I get it correctly positioned.
6. Now, long press on screen, choose select text.
7. Now repeat steps 1, 3 and 4 (skipping 2) until get the cursor at the correct ending position.
8. Once this is done, which for me can take up to several minutes to do, I can easily copy and paste the text.
If you've used an iPhone or even Windows Mobile 6.x you know how hard it is to understand that google failed so miserably at this.

While I admit copying/pasting does not seem particularly easy on our phones, the Calendar app we have is NOT the stock Android one so you should actually aim your criticism at Samsung. Same with the Messaging app (Samsung's work, not Google's). I'm slightly more used to the iPhone long press technique and it's magnifying glass technique, but I'm sure it's something they'll (they being Samsung) will attempt to improve
if you are using the Samsung keboard. Long press the 123? key, that will take you to an editing menu.

This works on the swype keyboard as well; swipe your finger to the right from the info button to the SYM button and it brings up a selection keyboard. Very useful

And your point is? Have you ever tried selecting test with that? Clearly not.
EDIT: My Bad. THANK YOU, Cesierra.
With a little practice that works great. For those who are curious, it works. It positions the cursor start position at the bottom of the calendar entry. From there you can up-arrow to position the cursor exactly where you want, then selection is easy. A very good kludge as kludges go, I am impressed.
you are welcome
Thank you cesierra/deuX!
I learned something new here.
I really like it when someones first post is a helpful one

[Resolved] [Q] ADW EX - How change icon for a Launcher Action

I have ADW EX 1.3.3.8.
In previous versions, you could 'turn on" navigation dots which sat left and right of the dock. If you has 7 screens, and were on the center one, it would show
... dock ...
If you touched the left dots, it would move left one screen and show
.. dock ....
Touch again
. dock .....
I loved this nav facility and used it constantly, but it is gone in recent versions. Now there are Launcher Actions to "Go Previous" and "Go Next" to move screen left and right. You can put these on the left and right ends of the dock for moving the screens.
(But you no longer get the info of how many screens are to the left and right--they are just fixed icons)
Still, I would like to have dots there and have created a 72 x 72 px icon for it. But I cannot figure out how to use this instead of the standard icons for the two functions. I saw a youtube video which showed longpress on an icon to edit it, but that no longer works in my (current) version.
Can anyone tell me how I can "put in" (ATT Galaxy SIII) the icon I created and for it to be used in place of those two standard ADW ones?
Thanks.
SOLVED.
Guess I was too quick. After lots of fumbling, I found the 'edit icon' is now double tap instead of long press. Was able to get them changed to my dots icon.
Still, if anyone knows the ADW author and can influence him, it would be wonderful to get the old system back because it showed, by changing the number of dots, where you were positioned in the screens. It was an excellent system, and it would be terrific to get it back.
Good To Go, another solved issue.

[Q] Cannot add home screens? Create folders?

I just got the Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 and for the life of me I can't figure out how to add more home screens. Two is all I have. Anyone know how to do it? Also, I can't figure out how to create a new folder. I really like the phone so far but I am frustrated by these two problems. Thanks for your help
I am assuming you are still on the stock launcher . To add a home-screen, just drag anything you want to put there towards the right edge of the current rightmost home-screen and it will *automatically* create a new home-screen for you. In other words, try to push something to the right of the second screen, and it creates the third - and so on.
To create a folder just drop one app icon over another and it will automatically create a folder with both of them in it. This needs practice though because often times when you try to drop more icons to the folder , it constantly pushes the folder away. But eventually you will get it.
go to home screen -> touch anywhere (empty screen) keep finger on screen for 4-5 seconds -> you will have options for wallpapers and widgets -->on top you have all the screens --> you can try adding new thr.

Google Now Launcher doesn't work that way. You have to drag an icon or widget from the most right screen to the right edge and it will create a new home screen. Just make sure the page you are dragging the icon from has more than 1 item on the screen. Why? If the screen your on only has 1 item and you drag it to the edge to create a new screen you also just deleted the old screen as well. When the home screen becomes empty the screen is then deleted.

Looking to have a app built and need help knowing what to ask for...

Looking for a 3-5 page application, splash screen, first page has one button, button generates a sequenced list based on a set of variables.
So data set one is image 1-100
Data set two is numbers between 5-25
Data set 3 is numbers between 3-5
When you click the button it generates 8 image cards from the first set and applies one of the numbers from each other two data sets to it
After clicking button on landing page, you have a scrolling page of 8 image cards, with text underneath with pertinent data sets included, each time the button is click it is random once again.
